Would you Accept an Upgrade?

We are booked for a standard view club level room at Yacht Club in a few days. We have been going there for the past 10 years so it is almost like home. Today DW received a call from Disney offering us an upgrade to either a club level pool or lagoon view room but at Beach Club. DW is reluctant. She says it is further from the boat to Hollywood Studios. Also she is not sure we will like BC club level as much as YC. Is it that different? Would you change resorts for an upgrade. If so, why? Your help in deciding this would be greatly appreciated.

One more question. I understand that YC club level lounge has been remodeled. How is it different than it was in the past? Is it better? Jay

I would say no. It's really just a view upgrade at another resort. Isn't it? And since your wife wants to be close to the boat to HS and you love the Yacht Club cause it feels like home, well, it's not much of an upgrade.

If you already have a club level at the Yacht Club and you are comfortable at that resort, I would not change just for a "view" room. That doesn't seem like much of an upgrade for you to inconvenience yourselves. If you were original in a standard room moving to club level, than absolutely I would take it.

In general, yes I take it because a lot of the time it's because they shuffling people to rooms that nobody is trying to book to get more rooms that people are trying to book free. Other times it's because they know there's enough of those rooms and they are trying to reward/woo a frequent visitor and in a way thanking you while trying to spoil you so you might start getting better rooms when you return. If you don't take it, someone else will be getting the offer.

Now you bring up an interesting point with the distance to things.. It is something you do need to factor in and I'm not really sure what I would do.. In this case, I would have booked BC or boardwalk before YC, I just like them better so I would take it.

Why are they offering to move you? That's the question. If it's shuffling because of overbooking, that's one thing. If it's that they want to take the room out of circulation for some reason, that's another.

You are booked club level at the YC, correct? If so I wouldn't take it. I have only stayed at the YC not the BC so I can't do a comparison of them for you but if your really happy with the YC (enough to go back 10 times!) I don't think you would be happy moving for just a view change. As another person pointed out you also have a big chance of losing your balcony as well.

The two times I have been upgraded one I refused and the other was wonderful but in hindsight I should have known better. The refusal was to be moved to a garden cottage room at the BWI from a standard CL room at the BWI. I like being close to the lounge so I declined. The other was being moved to a 3 bedroom suite in the main building at the GF instead of 2 rooms booked in the same building. We didn't really get asked we were just brought to the rooms and told we had gotten an upgrade. It was gorgeous and so much roomier for the 9 of us. The problem was they had a large plumbing problem that they hadn't fixed yet. The large fans in the rooms trying to dry the rugs should have given me a hint. After morning showers (tub leaked) the floors were soaked again and wool carpet smells really bad wet. They couldn't move us so my handyman father showed them were the water was coming from and my husband and I spent the night sleeping on the floor in one of the other rooms. Since we were upgraded we only were given $200 refund for our troubles, and that was for three nights. Morale of the story I am always leery of an upgrade at least for us.

What is going on at the YC that they are trying to switch so many guests? This is the second or third one I have seen on the dis this week.

That's sort of my gut feeling. If they are calling ahead of time, my gut says there is a reason and they are trying to avoid some kind of issue when you are actually there. Based on that gut feeling, I'd be inclined to say yes just to avoid spending part of my vacation dealing with whatever the issue is when it could have been taken care of ahead of time.

We have stayed at both. I will say that our Lagoon View was beautiful at YC. If you like YC, just stick with it.

But, I have never understood why people make such a big deal about distance to X from BC vs. YC. It's a very negligible distance, IMO.

Also, for the people talking about losing a balcony. I know, for a fact, that there is at least one YC CL standard room with NO balcony at all...not even one of those standing ones...there's always the chance of getting that!

Although I prefer YC over BC (slightly), because YC is under construction, and BC is all refurbed, I would accept the change. Have a great trip!!

Yes I would accept the upgrade. The Yacht Club is starting renovations on the club level rooms, that's why they want to move you to the Beach Club. Other people have received calls about being moved from the Yacht Club to the Beach Club.
Ding!

I figured there was a reason. If there is refurb, run and take the BC view. If you typically love YC, being there during renovations will make you sad.

I would make the change. You get a nicer view, the BC rooms were just re-done and they look nice, and the YC is in the middle of renovations and some people have reported that the rooms look tired and worn. I say this as a person who actually prefers YC CL to BC CL (but is booked at BC CL because I don't want to be at the YC during the renovations). Yes, it's farther from the boat dock, but not by much, and you make up the difference in being closer to Epcot. I see them as 2 sides of the same resort, and I think it's worth checking it out.
