Okay, we are going in Oct 2011 for a 6 day trip and then returning in June of 2012 for a TBD trip. My parents are taking the whole family (20+) of us for the June 2012 trip.

I am thinking of upgrading MY ticket only in October 2011 to an AP for the purpose of having access to discounts earlier for the June 2012 trip, the AP discounts for the Oct and June trip and then purchasing the TiW for both trips.

Is this possible? Is this allowed????

We only have three table service meals for the October trip for 8 of us, and again will have 20+ for the June trip (I have read that the TiW is only good for up to 10 guests). In June we will probably have 3 - 4 meals with everyone together, not to mention we will also be extending our trip and continue to use the card. (I also know that this means I have to pay for the meals since the card is in my name.)

So basically, my parents would only be paying for my upgrade to the AP ($385 instead of a $298) and then we would pay the $75 for the TiW card. A total of $162 difference of both trips we could have some benefits to the AP and the TiW.

Yes ??? No????

Yes it is possible. The TIW card is good for a discount for the cardholder and up to 9 other persons. However, all the discounted meals are supposed to be on the same bill, although the cardholder does not necessarily have to be the one who pays the bill. Pick the nine persons besides you who have the most expensive meals and put them on your discounted bill. Try putting the children on the non-discounted bill if they're getting kids meals.

This was one of my concerns, so I don't have to put all of this on my credit card??? I thought I read somewhere that it had to be the card holders credit card. :confused3

It has to all be on the same bill. However, I've been in a number of situations where someone other than the cardholder actually paid it. I've also been to places where they split the bill and still applied the discount, but that's not something that should routinely be expected.

I hate to break this to you but AP discounts seem to be coming out after general public discounts these days. The AP discounts are generally a couple percent better than the GP discounts but they're also quite limitted in their availability and only come out maybe a few months before the trip dates, sometimes even closer than that. I'm not saying that your overall plan isn't a good one. I'm just making sure you know that you are not going to get discounts earlier by being an AP holder.
