H, let me first say that this renting points thing is new to me . We always stay on site but now may family as 6 people and we have outgrown the regular rooms at Disney. Is it posible to rent points for 14 nights? Or should we try going to a condo off site? I would welcome any comments. Also I don't understand the whole point system thanks in advance Jillpirate: princess: princess: princess: princess: princess:

We can help with your point request for your trip to Disney next June. While you may be able to find cheaper accommodation off site. I don' think the experience will be quite the same as if you had stayed on the Disney property. Certainly renting points for use at one of the DVC resorts is going to be less expensive than renting directly through Disney. With a pary of 6, I would suggest one of the 2 bedroom villas at any of the 4 DVC resorts inside Disney World. Let us know if we can help. docdds@aol.com

I think staying 14 days,Would definetly be ALOT cheaper staying offsite. You would need a 2 bedroom and that will be Very expensive.

You can go up to the top off the page and click on the points calculator and put in your dates. Then most people rent out their points for 10.00 a point, then you can figure if its worth it or not.

OK, so you could very feasibly do this renting or buying DVC points. I went to the DVC member site and plugged in some hypotheticals and here are the results:

The dates I used started Sunday June 12, 2005 and had you all departing Sunday June 25th, 2005. For a 2 BR for that 14 night time period I came up with the following:
OKW: 592 pts
SSR: 632 pts
BWV std view: 612 pts
BWV prfd view: 700 pts
VWL or BCV: 700 pts

So if you figure it's gonna be $10-$12 per point we are looking at up to $8,400 for lodging, which when you consider you're getting a 2 BR on site is not such a bad deal. If you are economizing, you might think of leaving off some weekend nights at the end you could save up to 150 pts.

Another thought might be buying into DVC and using your own points. If you were to pay full price at the one new DVC resort on offer direct form Disney, you would need half of the maximum or 632/2=316 (assume you borrow second year's points and use both to make your summer 2005 ressie). With no discounts or incentives that would be $95 a point *316 points for just over $30,000. Now since you were thinking of spending say $6,400 to $7,600 for your two weeks at SSR in this case, $6,000 is 20% down and then Disney financing up to 10 yrs on the rest, and you're off and running; Maintenence fees of roughly $1,200+ a year (right now) and we're in the same ballpark, except that now you can come back and do the same thing every other year for 50 years.

There are other ways to do it. There will likely be some sort of sales incentive offered which will reduce the per point price, just don't take the one whare you sell back the first year's points, as you'll need these for your first ressie. You could divide by 3 and buy a minimum of 211 points (bank first year's and borrow third year's) for a cheaper solution, and you can do the two weeks at WDW every third year. If you have the cash up front you could buy a resale contract at one of the existing DVC properties for significantly less than the $95 per point ask price at SSR. You could also buy the minimum size 150 point contract, and rent the additional points needed, simply having them transferred to your account; this way you have ultimate control over your reservation.

Lots of ways to look at it. I share the high value you place on staying on-site, which is why we bought in and love our DVC. Buying into DVC yourself might be a good option if you're already looking at shelling out to rent points or at one of the Disney hotels. Then again, simply renting a reservation for this time period may make the most sense for you, and there are folks out there with 700 points available for rent.

Good luck! I'd love to do 2 weeks straight at WDW, but it's not happening anytime in the near future for us. Have fun!

thank you all so much for your help. that comes out to more I want to spend on just the room right now. I have thought of buying in, but I don't like the idea that you have to give back. thanks again to all. we have annual passes I guess I will try to get a discount that way, thanks a bunch Jillpirate: princess: princess: princess: princess: princess:
