Hi. I'm thinking about purchasing one of these for my husband. We need one we can use in the states as well as the UK. I would really appreciate any personal recommendations as there seems to be a huge array of choice.

Thanks,
Mel

We have a Tom Tom 910 and it's great:thumbsup2

Another fan of the Tom Toms here:thumbsup2 We used it when we were in Orlando in April and it was great:)

Hi,
I have a Tomtom 910 and it works great on both sides of the Atlantic. All the maps are included and installed on the hard drive so messing about with memory cards etc. I also use mine as a hands free unit for my mobile.

I have a Navman N40i, it includes European maps but you will have to purchase the US maps. It has a parking & petrol function which can come in handy to. You just click the relevant button and it will list the nearest to where you are.

I have no complaints its great plus you pick which countries you want to install on it so you don't have to have all the countries on it at the same time.

I was worried about the 910 because a lot of internet reviews say that when you connect to your PC to install updates people have had problems with it not working after that. Has anyone here connected to their PC and been fine?

Thanks,
Mel

Used it in Europe but not the US yet.
Neither have I tried to update it online - sorry :goodvibes

910 user here as well. I'm on my second one - my first did exactly what you said: as soon as I disconnected it from the PC after it had finished updating it just froze on the welcome screen and wouldn't do anything else.

I haven't tried connecting my replacement yet. Should probably get around to it!

Despite the problems, it is very easy to use and has lots of extra features.

I'm a 910 user. I've connected mine to my PC a few times and had no problems at all.

We have a Garmin Nuvi, it's either a 350 or 360 will need to check with DH. It came with all the maps for the UK and Europe and we just recently bought the North America maps.

Thanks for your response. I do think this looks like a great Sat Nav. But I'd feel pretty stupid if I spent all of that money and then the first time I hooked it up to the PC it didn't work. I have read enough reviews where this has happened to be a bit nervous about it.

Thank you everyone for responding, I really appreciate it. :goodvibes If anyone has any other thoughts about this let me know.
