Worth it to make the trip from East Coast?

Well I think you convinced me. I think we'll aim for Sept 2012 or Sept 2013. When will all the updates be complete? We always go to WDW in late Sept, so we'd just switch it out one year. Another question--if we go next year we will have a dd 8 and dd and ds 3. Would six nights be good? We usually are at the parks for rope drop, head back for a break and return to the parks around four pm until 7 pm or so. Would waiting until 2013 make more sense? Thanks for all the input. Also, thanks for mentioning the Disney museum. That would be something to see. How far is it from DL?

Why wait!?!!! There are so many new things to see in 2012. You can even go on the Little Mermaid ride in DCA before the WDW's copy opens. Carland will open summer 2012, if you go in September you will get to experience that too. The resort hotels are within walking distant from the parks it is perfect for going in the parks for rope drop, and for your kids to take afternoon breaks. It is like you roll out of the bed and you'll be at the park gate! LOL

Disney museum is near San Francisco, that would be for a different trip...

I would do September 2012. Leave 2013 for the MK's FLE.

In September Halloween season will start about mid month. So far it's not as big an event as in WDW so the parties haven't started until the end of Sept, or beginnning of Oct. But going at the end is something to consider. After Labor day and before that mid month start of Halloween crowds are small. Crowds pick up later in the month. Weather is great that month.

The only thing that you might want to delay a year for is if DS won't make the height minimums for the Carsland attractions and Indy. Of course it's possible if you wait a year he still may not be able to ride those attractions. Just something to consider if it's close.

If you go after Labor Day be careful choosing dates. There are threads here every month from folks who ignored commonly held knowledge around here about off-season and then after they were locked in on dates they complain bitterly that "they had no idea and now their trip is ruined".

Go with full awareness and your trip will be as magical as possoble! :)

I live in Pittsburgh and own at BWV but also love going to DL. Stayed at VGC in May and loved it! I don't like to compare which is "better", they both have their own unique qualities. The extra hours on the plane isn't a big deal to me.

Good point about the Fantasy land expansion. Only issue is that my dh may not want a long flight with the twins. We just returned from Europe (2nd trip) and the flight home was BAD. Travelling with the twins this year has been harder than last year. So we'll have to see about timing.

Touring in the off season would be fine. We don't usually stay at the parks past 7 pm and the fireworks and shows are not that big a deal. While the kids are small we stick to our routine. We figure we have all our lives to see that stuff thanks to DVC.
