Worst change in the last 10 years...What do you miss most

I miss the spontaneity of park visits. I miss the days when you do what you feel like, eat where you want when you want, etc. Now...we must have a "game plan".
I also liked park and hotel specific merchandise.
I miss River Country the most.

I miss the old version of Spaceship Earth :sad2:

I agree!

Dh and I went to Disney for our honeymoon in 1999, and taped the whole thing (not sure what we were thinking, lol).. but then took dd's there in 2008, and it had changed to the current version.... at least I still have our tape of the original, :goodvibes

What I miss:
Annual Pass renewal dates- it used to be if you renewed your pass, the new expiration date was a year away from the first time you used the renewal. Now it renews immediately.

All passes non-expiring/hopping (I think it was called Make your way?) We used to do so many more long weekends when all passes didn't expire.

My Magic Kingdom Club membership at work.

World of Motion

Merchandise- there used to be more unique merchandise in the parks. You were afraid not to buy something b/c you were afraid you wouldn't see it again. At WoD there was so much more jewelry than there is now. T-shirts are crappy quality. There was better merchandise in the Art store...

Ahhh. Got it. Sadly, I have a plan too. Won't be double-booking. Instead, I have a "if this, then that" plan. If the hours are what I expect at each park, I have a master plan. If Disney throws me a curve, I have a back-up plan. I hate having to do this.

I agree, I also hate having to do this. I too have a plan and a first and second choice for each restaurant, but if neither are available, I know I'll be stuttering on the phone with a CM, scrambling to find another restaurant. Ridiculous.

What's the point of double and triple booking reservations? Is this so they have a "choice" when they are on vacation? I wouldn't want to do that, especially knowing how hard it is sometimes for people to get certain reservations.

I miss the original Tiki Room. Tiki Room UNM is pretty terrible. And the original Journey into Imagination. I loved Figment so much as a kid and now I think it's embarassing that I have a Figment hat.

I also miss Pleasure Island for nightlife. Sure, there's ADH and Jellyrolls but it's not the same and transportation back to the hotel from both of those is a pain!

Hi Jackie!! :wave2:
from one Bel Air resident to another!! So cool to see someone else from Bel Air here on the Dis!!

Now for my list:
I am surprised that there are not more things listed from the old MGM Studios
that said:
MGM Studios:
the old backlot tour where you saw the working soundstage, the wardrobe dept, and the tour where you saw the Golden Girls house... sigh...
the old animation tour
Four for a Dollar at BtBlos
Hunchback of Notre Dame stage show
Stars and Motocars parade
Who wants to be a Millionaire?
....

I completely forgot about my FAVORITE (after Figgy) thing from my original WDW visits. The old animation and old backlot tours. I loved them SO much. We thought it was the coolest thing ever to see the animators working or the sets and props. THANK YOU for reminding me. I still go on both, and the great memories flood back everytime. I don't mind changes in general - keeps it fresh for me. But the original animation tour is one that I actually feel bad that some people have never experienced. So unique only to Disney.

Pretty much. Since you have to bok your ADRs so ridiculously early (6 months in advance), many people take the approach that since they don't know which park they will be at on each day yet, they make dinners ADRs at multiple locations for each night of their trip.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing is there have been several posts where people have said that their travel agents do this or at least encourage clients to do it.

I can't think of anything I miss but if they ever touch the Norway Maelstrom ride and especially the trippy 70s like mural in the loading area, I will be upset.

That thing was out of date when it was unveiled and laughable even back then, but now it seems even more out there and has grown on me (as that whole confusing ride has) and as far as I'm concerned I will never go to the real Norway because I don't want to change my mind's eye of all Norwegians looking like Grizzly Adams and Love Boat crew members as they work on oil platforms and the like.

I also hope to never understand what the heck the narrator is talking about during the ride and never ever want to know what the troll is all about.

The worst change would have to be Pixar Pals Countdown To Fun....what do I miss the most? Block Party Bash

I sometimes make multiple dining reservations too. I always cancel the reservation once I've hashed out exactly which restaurant and time we'll be going to. I think of it this way: for the families who are desperate for a reservation and didn't realize they had to book so far in advance, they're catching a break. Someone will use it and will feel quite lucky. :wizard:

Unfortunately yes. Believe it or not, the travel agent made the suggestion. she says she recommends all her clients to do this during free dining because your plans may change and you will want to have a back up reservation.

Unfortunately most of my family has never been to disney so they don't really know how hard that could be. Nor do they read these boards, so they don't see the harm in it.

So next month I'll have 10 adults making 2 and 3 reservations per night. :sad2:

Me and my other cousin are really the only two who have been to disney before and who are really disney freaks. we're hopping we can sort of nag people into at least cancelling some of them the closer we get to our family reunion.

I hope you're not going to be there the same time as me (I'm arriving Aug 26) taking up all those additional ADRs that will not be used.

I turned 21 around the same time the AC closed. I had ALWAYS wanted to go and enjoy everything, and I never got the chance.
