I recently slipped at work and injured my knee. I am curretnly working in teh office doing paperwork as my restrictions have me VERY restricted. When ever I go to the dr or medical testing, it can be done during work hours, how ever, I was told for physcial therapy I have to do that on my own time. This seems unfair to me that I have to do PT on my own time when thye allow MD appts during work hours.

Does anyone know the law on this. I live in PA.

Thanks!

Well I don't know about PA laws but I'm currently going to a dr and PT for a wrist injury due to work. (carpal tunnel basically) And yes, I do both on work time and I get paid for it. I imagine if you suffered a work injury then yes, work has to pay you to get better.

In CA, I was unable to complete my PT during work hours and had to schedule it on my own time. Yes, it was a work related injury as well.

it can depend on how your employment contract is worded for workman's comp.

i worked for an employer who had different unions with different contracts (as well as non union represented staff). with one of the groups their contract read that there was a 3 day waiting period for workman's comp to kick in, but then once you returned to work any partial days missed due to med appointments or such were covered. another group got their workman's comp from the day of the injury but in exchange there was no coverage for these appointments.

both were within the wording of california law so both were legal.

Why not go on your own time? it's your knee, don't you want to get better quickly to get back to your normal job?

Don't know about PA. but in Fla if you work for a smaller co. they can replace you if they need to if you are un-able to perform your normal duties right after your injury.

Your employer pays good money for workers comp, sounds like they are trying to work with you, why not work with them.

Hope your knee gets better in time for your WDW trip. :thumbsup2

When I worked for a private employer, I had to go to ALL doctor's appointments on my own time. When I worked for the post office, all appointments (including PT) were scheduled during my work time and paid for.

they don't have to permit you to do the PT during work hours however they are responsible to Pay for the tx..

Do you have a claim adjustor from the insurance company? I would ask them. If you going during work time, the lost time could be paid by the insurance company, not your employer.

Thanks all for the replies.

I work for a hospital network so they are far from a small company.

I wasn't saying I didn't want to do PT to won't do it on my own time, I am just trying to find out my rights related to this injury. I have an appt with PT today at 5, after work hours. Hopefully it can make a difference with the pain I have been having, as medication is limited due to other health issues.
