Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Hi Everyone,

I stayed on track with my points yesterday although not without temptation. At the last minute my kids were invited to the neighbors for dinner (a bday celebration for their dog). I went with them and was met with all types of food choices, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salad, chips. I declined any food because I just wasn't sure how to estimate the points values for things without the nutrition label and my measuring cups and scale. I waited until I got home to eat what I had planned for dinner. Well, in all honesty I did have 4 sun chips (yes I kept count) and 2 small but delicious spoons of cake. My daughters didn't clean their plates and I can't stand to waste food, so I did sample it. How do others handle eating when not at home? I guess it will be easier once I've done it for a while and understand what a 3 oz burger looks like.
Cindy

I wish I had your will power. I was aweful yesterday. I took Erica to the catfish house, a new restraunt. We had all you can eat fried catfish fillits and beans, baked potato and hush puppies. I had enouth calories for the week. Yep I was aweful. I'm eating beter today.

Have a great day everyone.

Best wishes to everyone.

Congratulations, Cindy -- awesome job passing up all that food. It really is hard, but the sense of satisfaction afterwards is amazing, isn't it? :thumbsup2 As far as how to count points outside, I try to choose the least offensive foods and if possible, brand name items of the snack choices so that I can look them up easily later. Another very strange thing I do is to break up chips, etc. and put them on the paper plate and then walk away from the serving table. It is all a mental thing with me.

Back on track today, Dave! That is what matters. Glad you had such a yummy dinner. You'll burn off those calories in no time! :cool1:

I had a great dinner last night of broiled london broil & steamed broccoli. I was below my sparkpeople points for the 2nd day in a row and it felt great! 1108 calories for the day, which included 2 splurges of weight watchers muffins -- one berries & creme and one double chocolate. I also got in all my veggie/fruit servings.

I am going crazy not being able to work out, but my appetite also is manageable since I am not training right now. The scale was down another .9 this morning, but I know it will kick up again as soon as I can start training again -- should be tomorrow, but I have a meeting tomorrow night, so if I don't get to the gym before work, I won't get there until Saturday (we have a charity auction Friday night).

Food plan for today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; fat free plain yogurt w/strawberries & sweet 'n low; vitamin; antibiotic (the last one -- yay!)
L: doing a special luncheon for secretary's day. Hoping to grab a turkey on whole wheat or something like that and my salad from home.
D: leftover broccoli and london broil (did you know that 5 oz is only 170 calories? awesome!)
dessert: WW dark chocolate raspberry bar or chocolate muffin; skim milk

I know I have been MIA around here lately! I have been reading, but just not posting much. I haven't been a complete angel, but I've been following Core better than I was. Last week's weigh in, I was down 4 lbs.! I have NEVER been down 4 lbs. in one week. But I attribute that to how bad I was previous to that, and then getting back on track. I still have 6-7 lbs. to lose again to get to my so-far-lowest-weight at weight watchers.

The really good news was that I didn't have to pay at WW last week!

My main 'problem' is still my major sleep deprivation. I really need to make that a huge priority.
So, now...I am off to nap! ;)

Hi Everyone,

At last some good news to report! Last week on weigh in day I was up 1.5. Today I was down 6, count 'em 6 lbs.! Turns out if I actually eat the right amount of points and workout, I can lose weight. Who knew?!:rotfl2:

Yesterday I ran 3 miles, today I'll be on the bike -- if I don't let my sore throat send me to the couch. The jury's still out, but I'd like to stay on a roll...I was up to 3.75 over the weekend for my long run. This week, 4 miles or bust! My plan is to run again Thursday, with another long run on Saturday.

Cam -- Thanks for the ipod advice. I am just starting to look into it, I really appreciate any thoughts. I think it's hysterical that your listing your antibiotic as "food". That's a food group I try hard to avoid!:rotfl:

Jennifer-- I don't think this person sounds like much of a friend. I would let that relationship cool if it's hurting you.

Jen-- I think pulling DD sounds plenty difficult! I hope you are able to run again soon! :yay:

Dave-- Belle is my favorite Disney princess. I have Stitch for my ds. :stitch:

Cindy-- Welcome! I don't even want to think about how much I need to lose, it's more than you...:lmao: I'm new to running, and I'm really enjoying myself so far.

Kristi--:woohoo: 4lbs. is huge for one week! My loss is really from two weeks, you are rockin' it out! Now enjoy that nap!:upsidedow

So great to see everyone posting here! Now if I could just tear myself away from the reality shows, I might accomplish something in the evenings...:scared1:

We did a nice luncheon for Admin Appreciation Day, so lunch was something different.
L: green salad; 3 pieces chicken (1 oz); 3 walnut halves; 1 tsp cranraisins; 2 pcs mandarin orange; 1 slice multigrain bread w/turkey & swiss, L&T; 1 serving mini pretzels; 4 pcs fruit (pineapple, canaloupe, watermelon)

I allowed myself a taste of pretty much everything but didn't go overboard on anything. I was glad to stick to 1/2 sandwich and I took some of the salad fixin's and put them on my green salad to control my portion size. it worked out well and it didn't look like I wasn't eating, so no one commented on it. Fortunately, I had to take a call for Special Olympics so I was able to leave before I was tempted to hit the pasta salad or the chips or the cookies or brownies. YAY! :yay:

Before I forget, I think there was some mention of a show dealing with obesity, so for those who are interested TLC is showing "Inside Brookhaven Obesity Clinic" tonight at 9pm EST.

Dave- Mmmm hush puppies... At least the calories were spent on a nice dinner with your wife instead of on butter cookies and pretzels at work like *ahem* me :sad2:

I have been eating less at dinner, so hopefully my slips at work are balanced out. For dinner I've been having a big salad with lettuce, red bell pepper, chopped green olives, sprouts, sf seeds, black beans, and salsa. And I haven't had any tortilla chips lately, which I used to eat a ton of at dinner.

Congratulations to everyone who is seeing the results of their hard work! :goodvibes

Hey everyone!

I lurk here more than I post. I feel ashamed because I'm not doing well on the diet front. I have good intentions but you know the saying about that...

One aspect of getting healthier that I do well is exercising. I think most of us on this thread are good about that but I'll tell you, it wasn't that long ago that I didn't do any exercising....nothing, zilch, nada, zero! So, I am proud of my accomplishments in that regard. However, I really struggle with the dieting. I need to get my rear end in gear or I won't be able to complete the full next January. I'm actually kind of nervous about that. :scared:

Dave posted a "let's get the ball rolling at a healthier lifestyle" type of thread so I'm hoping that this thread along with that thread will help knock some sense into me.

As for you guys, keep up the good work! Sometimes just little changes will make all the difference.

:offtopic: Jennifer - I just had post a comment about your acquaintance. :rolleyes1 I think she's very insecure and jealous of you. I'll bet she feels like you've got something over her and she can't stand it. If you should see her again, just be sweet as honey....it'll drive her crazy. ;)

Hey everyone... I am having a LTO week. I was home today with a sick princess. My DD4 has allergies and asthma... She had an asthma attack last night and it didn't end until tonight. Just checked on her and her wheezing is light. Sheww. But it caused my eating to not be so great. BUT, BACK ON TRACK TOMORROW. I am picking up motivational things from things I am looking up on weight loss and I hope it helps.

Jennifer - I was just kidding on the dress... but in case you need to secure your mind....
weddpart.jpg

I was married in November in Wisconsin, thus the long sleeves!!! I am sure your dress is 100% more divine and you will be a lovely bride!

EDIT: My dress has big long train that doesn't show in that picture. If you need it for reference, let me know!!! Heee heee!

Kristi - WHOOO HOOOO!! GO BABY! I love losses like that.

Jen - I love your wedding picture! Thanks for sharing. Maybe we should all share our wedding pics! I know Judy has gorgeous ones from her Wilderness Lodge wedding. And before I forget....you will have to share your Spongebob birthday ideas. Zack is already insisting on a SB party in June. Must be a 4-year-old thing!

CrazyJen - tell that acquaintance to take a flying leap! Well, I would say worse things, but this is a family board. You don't need toxic people like that in your life. No one does! And in my experience, those that go on such as she does, are the unhappy ones. If she was truly happy, she wouldn't have to brag about it all the time!

I was really bad the past 2 days. Chad raided a CVS with 90% off Easter candy. I won't go buy things like that. But if they are around the house...:rolleyes1 And for all my talk about needing more sleep, I got about 4 hours last night. And the dreaded ratings book started this morning & work is absolute heck. :sad2: I got yelled at more in the first 10 mins. of the show this morning, than I have in the past year! And none of it was really my fault.

Ok, enough venting.
I am going to try really hard not to take my frustrations out on the vending machine today.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the encouragement. It definately helps. I've stayed on track for 3 days in a row now. I'm hoping that if I challenge myself to get a streak going it will help me continue eating well. It's funny how each day brings it's new challenges. Yesterday's challenge was feeling unmotivated because of the rainy weather, being tired, a long commute home and whining kids. Luckily I didn't pull out the chocolate like I wanted to. I guess if this was easy we'd all be thin.

Windwalker: I hope you at least enjoyed your splurge. Good luck with your recommittment to being healthy.

Cam: Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on eating healthy at lunch yesterday faced with all the food choices.

Kristi: Congrats on the 4 lb loss. It is so hard to stay motivated when being so tired. I know it's one of my big issues too. I whine about getting up at 5 AM, I know you've already been to work for hours and been yelled at by then. Hope the day at work improves.

Worfiedoodles: Congrats on the 6 lb loss. That's great. Good luck with getting your 4 mi LR in this week.

Susie: Give yourself credit for doing the exercise. At least you are doing that. Good luck with getting the eating in line.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Good morning guys. Lets all stay focused on our goals and have a wonderful day. Everyone get the smile going first thing. I'm off to walk and feel good about me. I'm going to get over that slap to the self esteem of having to buy a size larger pair of jeans. I'm determined that by pig time in 12 days they will be to loose.

Dave:hippie:

Kristi & Maria – :woohoo: on the HUGE losses! You should each be very, very proud!

Jen – what a gorgeous picture! You were a stunning bride!

Glad to hear you sounding so positive, Dave! :flower:

Hi, Cindy – great job on staying on track! :thumbsup2 You and me,kiddo! 3 DAYS and still going strong!

Yes, yesterday was the third day for me of being below my sparkpoints recommended calories. My range is 1200-1550 and I was at 1199! How funny!!! I wasn’t even trying to do that, but I logged my dinner and a few pretzels and there it was – 1199! So, I forced myself to do bookkeeping and bills and Minnie planning and then went to bed without eating my WW chocolate muffin and glass of milk. I just couldn’t bear to break my long-time-coming success streak. ;)

Food plan for today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; multi-vitamin (I’m done the antibiotics – :yay: ); fat free plain yogurt w/fresh strawberries
S: apple
L: green salad w/packet of tuna in water

Not sure about the rest of the day because I have a special olympics meeting tonight. Sometimes there are sandwiches and other times there is pizza. I usually don’t eat there, but not sure where I’ll be by then.

Yes Cam I have been in a funk for a while and had to snap out of it. All the sicky in the family and the bad weather, I kinda got off track. But I'm back now recommitted and ready to get down to business.

It's all attitude. Today I felt like the chains were off and I was free to fly. I did my 4 miler into the wind with the hills 3 minutes faster than I have been lately. When that wind hit me on the hills I said "rise above it" (from the movie 'Cool Runnings"). And I did rise above it. I walked my four miles up the hills in 50 min flat, here lately I've been doing around 53 min and the effort seemed the same.

Thanks for being here y'all!!!

Dave:hippie:

Woah, Dave! You WALK faster than most people run!!! Awesome pace there, buddy! I am so glad you are feeling better and more positive. Keep on smiling! :goodvibes:

Jen- You were an absolutely beautiful bride! Thank you so much for posting the picture. I can only hope to look that good on my wedding day! :goodvibes Sorry your DD was sick, hope she's feeling better.

Kristi- I would love to see more wedding photos if you feel like posting them. I think you're right about people bragging to make themselves feel better, but the weird thing is that she brags but also complains like you would not believe. I also got to hear all about how her honeymoon was not up to standards. :confused3 Her poor DH :scared1:

Susie- I am always sweet as honey... :lmao: darn, I thought I could type that with a straight face!

Cam and Cindy- You must teach me in the art of fighting the dreaded snack attack, sensei. Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Cam, here is a link to the 5K race results from 3 weeks ago. I was sick that day. The man ahead of me is the Ky state champion race walker and the woman is the women's Ky state champion. I will meet the guy in the Olympics in just over two months. I'll be ready now that I got my grove back.

Dave:hippie:

Dave -- those results are mind-boggling. But, can I tell you something? I am so happy to see that if I were in that race, my pace would put me in the top 25-30 (or it would have 4 weeks ago before I started getting really sick). I am hoping I haven't lost too much of my pacing by the time I get back on the treadmill this saturday morning. I am torn between blowing it all out and seeing what I can do and taking it very easy because ) (a) I've just finished an antibiotic known to cause tendon weakness, tenderness & tearing  and (b) I should be tapering for the Minnie.
Anyway, I am so happy to see you back in your groove and I cannot WAIT to hear how you do at the National Senior Olympics!
Oh, and I am definitely going to enlist the help of a WISHer to give you a huge  from me at the Flying Pig to thank you for all the positive spirit you bring here!

I'll try to do the WISH Team Shirt I'll be wearing proud. I will be facing the best Seniors racewalkers in the nation but I'll give it all I have, then some more. Thanks for your encouragement.
