Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Maria - I just have to tell you about something I read awhile ago. It was about people who remarry fairly quickly after losing a spouse. Most of the time, the people who do this are the ones who had the very best marriages! They want that closeness & partnership again - and they know what it takes to make a marriage work. Does that make any sense? Although I do agree not telling you was very hurtful.

Back on topic: I have been doing well yesterday & today. On plan, but not feeling the weight loss. I have been very good with water too - even over the weekend when I was not 100% on plan. I am sticking with it though!

Cam
- thanks for the tips about those Fiber One bars. I'll have to keep on eye out for them. Glad to see you checking in - was wondering where you've been!

Can someone please tell me why stomach fat is so darn stubborn?! As usual my weight loss is showing up in my face and my chest. Ughh! I get so discouraged when I see that tummy but I know it will go away in time.

OK, enough ranting on that subject. I will not bore you with the details but I have been doing well with both eating and excercise. My trainer kicked my fanny both Sunday and last night and I have been getting my runs in as well.

Some exciting news for me as well - I am signing up for a 10K race in Atlanta on July 4. A group of us are running in honor of my boss's little boy who has a brain injury caused by nearly drowning in a koi pond. Now I have a goal and a cause!

Jen - For snacks I like the South Beach Diet snack bars. They come in some really yummy flavors and as few as 100 calories. I also like to have a handful of walnuts or string cheese. Sugar free jello or pudding taste good but I wonder sometimes if there is any nutritional value in them

Another oatmeal fan here. I do the Quaker oats either in the microwave or stovetop. I think doing them on the stovetop is better but I usually am in a rush so the mic it is. I like to put some walnuts or cut up apple in as well.
Thanks for the muffin recipe Minnie. I will make some of those up this weekend. Do they freeze well?

Cam - How did your weigh in go? You are doing so great staying within your calorie range. Staying that low you are bound to have success!

Well, back to work I go. I need to keep those commissions coming in to pay for my upcoming WDW trip. Me and four teenagers - am I crazy?

Have a great day everybody!

Hi everyone. Nothing really new to post. Just same ole, same ole. On week 6 of couch to 5K. This Sat is 25 min  . But somehow I made through the 20 min last week so I'll trudge through. It great to see how everyone is doing.

Minnie - Thanks for the recipes. They look great and I can't wait to try them.

Maria - Although not quite the same, I'm the same way with my sons stepmom. When I'm in spinning class or running I picture her and my ex right behind me and I don't stop. (They're not bad peoples at all, it just a situation that breeds that kind of adversity).

Jen and pathergirl - I second the south beach bars. Another one I've found that I really like is Kashi Go Lean bars. They have 12 g protein and 6 g fiber. (I don't have that memorized I just happen to have one sitting here on my desk :lmao: ) I've been trying like mad to avoid getting products with high fructose corn syrup and both South Beach and Kashi contain good whole ingredients for the most part.

Have a great week everyone!

But just look at these cuties! They are my twin nephews who are graduating from HS in June. They each get to bring a friend.

Hi Everyone,

Some day, when I get to write a long, chatty post, you will all fondly remember these drive bys....:lmao:

I did do the bike ride yesterday. Today is my rest day. I was doing great eating today (I sat and looked at a plate of muffins through an 1.5 hr meeting, and didn't have a crumb) until I went to the employee health and safety fair. I had two big cookies. Oops. On the bright side, I got a great chair massage.

panthergirl -- Four teenagers?! You are brave!

Kristi -- I had heard that, too, but it's just odd. My dh's stepfather and other males in the family did the same thing.

Gotta run, my ride's here! I really hope to do better tomorrow. Thanks for all the encouragement!

Maria

Susan -- what a great picture! Did I understand correctly that you are taking your 2 nephews and 2 of their friends? If so, I may think you are a little crazy, but what I really think is that you are the coolest aunt EVER!!!! And I defnitely know what you mean about the belly fat. I look at pix of myself and see that I have lost a lot in my face and my chest, but really wish I could get rid of the roll of fat around my abdomen above and below my naval. I have just started using a balance ball and am doing all sorts of exercises on it that are focused on my middle. I'll let you know if I think it is effective (once I've used it for a month or so and not just 3x!!!) Congrats on signing up for the race! :cool1:

Texa -- congrats on keepin' on keepin' on! That is what it's all about, right? I am convinced that healthy eating is now a habit for me in that I give considerable thought to the healthier of my most desired options. I am hoping with time that my desire for an abundance of food will lessen. That really is the big issue for me. Not so much the types of foods but the volumes that I feel I need to be satisfied. Good luck on the 25 minutes this week! How awesome that you are that far along on the training program. I have started it so many times and then not followed through, unfortunately. The time will come, I'm sure, when I will feel the need to do it in its entirety.

Hey, Kristi! How is it going, sweetie? Still lovin' that WW oatmeal? That is my fallback core breakfast, but lately I've been very satisfied with an apple and coffee. I know I should eat a better breakfast but this seems to be working at the moment. I always have the core oatmeal here so that if I get hungry I have a great option, but the last couple of days my appetite has been very controlled. :confused3 I don't get it but I am enjoying it!

Thanks for asking about the weigh in, Susan! :goodvibes: I am so pleased to be able to report that I was down 2 pounds!!!! I can't remember the last time I was down that much in one week where it wasn't just an adjustment for a water gain the week before. I really do feel like I lost 2 pounds this week. I think the combination of doing core foods but counting calories is helping me be much more accountable in my eating.

AND -- I am now .2 pounds less than I was when I started high school. :lmao: I crash dieted the summer before to get below a particular number before starting HS. Even though that number was embarrassing, I was glad to hit it, but immediately bounced right back up above that number and never saw it again. I don't intend to ever be this close to it again, either. Onward and downward I go. I have so many motivators right now -- 3 5Ks this month; the Minnie marathon in 9.5 weeks; the Kenny Chesney concert in June that I and my WISH buddy just got tickets for; and hopefully, a late July 4-day Disney cruise with DH and our DD18! :woohoo:

Yay for Cam! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: 2 pounds lost is so totally awesome dude! You might be in a bikini for the cruise at that rate!

And yes two nephews plus two friends - one of which is my nephew's girlfriend. I think I will force her to sleep in my room. We have a two bedroom at the BCV and I was going to give her the pull out in the living room and give the boys the second bedroom. That may be just a bit far out of range for my slipper should there be some unauthorized "visiting"!

OMG, Cam! That is awesome! I am so happy for you right now!

I know this was such a huge goal for you. I hope you are so very proud of yourself! What an inspiration you are to all of us!:cheer2:

As for the tummy issue...if anyone figures out how to get rid of this, please let me know! With the 30 lbs. I've lost, I swear the belly has not changed so much. I know alot of it is from being stretched out from pregnancy. I call it my 'baggy belly' since it seems loose. TMI, I know - but it's like a deflated tire or something. I really think the only cure is going to be a tummy tuck, hopefully someday.

Susan - they are cuties! I can barely handle my 3 year old though, I'd probably lose it with 4 teens. I am not the patient type. You are the woman! :worship:

Maria - woo hoo for staying away from those goodies during the meeting!

Cam - That is so totally awesome :cheer2:  :cool1: :cheer2:  :cool1:

Okay just to let everyone know. I start my new job tomorrow so I won't be able to check in during the day anymore. I will try to keep up with the thread in the evenings as best I can. I finished my finals in my current course and start my new course tomorrow so my time is very limitted.

WISHing you all the best. And will do my best to keep up :goodvibes

Hi Everyone!

I am going to take a few minutes, eat my sugar free dulce de leche jello pudding, and actually write a full post (or at least I hope to).

A great consequence of "the visit" from dad and wife -- after dinner, I usually feel the need to eat something between then and bedtime. With the wife on WW and not eating anything at all, I was determined she wasn't going to see me go for the cupboards! So, I probably had 100 less calories last night, and hopefully by the time she goes home, I'll have a new habit of not eating after dinner!:thumbsup2

I'm throwing them out of the basement (where both our TM and guest accomdations are) for my run when I get home from work. I already told them, so there shouldn't be any surprises. DH is making WW rosemary chicken w/white beans (5 pts) for dinner, and I'll follow it w/a WW dessert.

When I was packing my lunch last night, she looked at me like I was crazy. I packed a LC sesame chicken, jello sugar-free pudding, green beans, celery, carrots, grapes and one cheese stick, 12 points. That doesn't seem like too much food to me for 10 hours?:confused3 I had a 3 pt. breakfast of cream of wheat and blueberries. That puts me at 24 points for the day w/dessert, which is what I'm supposed to have, and doesn't count the exercise points from working out. Am I missing something? I haven't been to a WW meeting in years, but I thought this would be a good eating plan?

Minnie-- Congratulations on your new job! I am the opposite, with no computer at home right now, I can only check in at work! I hope you love your new situation, and find plenty of job satisfaction. :cloud9:

Kristi-- The tummy just jiggles when I wiggle... That is the second to last place I lose, my only more frustrating area is my thighs. Of course, the weight just melts away from my chest, not that there's much to go anywhere :rotfl:

Susan-- I agree, you are the coolest Auntie known to man! I especially would be leary of taking the girlfriend, but I am overly cautious. I'm sure you will have a fabulous time! :smickey:

Cam-- You are my idol! I can't even tell you how far away I am from my high school weight...Let's just say I weighed 124 and thought I was heavy. Those were the days...Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment!:dance3:

Texa-- How is week 6 treating you? We are on the same schedule, different plans. I'm in week 6 of training to train. I want to run a five miler at the beginning of June, so I decided to take my LRs from 2.75 to 5 miles in that time. I think I can do it, but I'm only going to increase as I feel able, and not more than 10% at a time, since I got some great advice. :cool1:

dkp, Jen, Abra cat, Kathy, NePatsfan, Beth, Martha, Sunny, Angie -- I hope you are all excited about a brand new month! Plenty of opportunity to do great things! :cheer2:

Let's move and lose!
Maria

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! I was trying to make myself feel better about the belly fat thing, but I am convinced that no amount of toning is going to make all this excess "stuff" disappear! :sad1:
Here are pix of me at nearly my highest weight (in July 2004) and from January.

Yes, smaller rubber tire, but there nonetheless.

Ok - STOP THAT RIGHT NOW WOMAN!!! I will come down to your house & slap you silly if you keep that up lady!
What you've accomplished is amazing. You have to stop putting yourself down, ok?
I LOVE that pic of you with Mickey!

From what I've heard & read, once your tummy is stretched out, no amount of exercise is going to get rid of all of that excess skin. Nevermind, for those of us that had babies - those muscles get separated and they have to be surgically sewn back together if we ever hope to have a relatively flat tummy. My stomach looks like the ones on those make over shows where they give them plastic surgery. Might have had something to do with all that eating for two... :rolleyes1 Maybe we can all go get tummy tucks once we get to our goal weights. Maybe there's a group discount or something. ;)

Maria - 24 pts. is perfect! Don't let your father's wife make you feel as if you are doing something wrong. If she is questioning you, she is probably doing the program wrong. I graze all day at work, so I bring lots of fruit, a yogurt, etc. The points are the points!

I have been doing pretty good on Core. I don't feel as though I've lost anything though. If I am on plan and weigh in next week without a loss, I am going to the doctor. I know I am always thinking my thyroid is off again, and it isn't. But I have some other symptoms (I think so anyway). He just did my bloodwork in Dec., and I feel like a crazy person asking him to do it again.

Kristi -- you know your body better than anyone. If you feel like something is "off" you have every right to ask for tests to be done. BTW, you are so sweet! Have him check your insulin while he's at it! :lmao:

Minnie -- How was your first day at your new job? We missed you here! :grouphug:

Maria -- I don't know how much you weigh or the other things that go into determining the number of WW points available to you each day, but 24 does NOT sound like a lot. You know what you are doing and no one has the right to make you feel uncomfortable. Do you want us to come and :cool1: on her head?

Food has been good so far today, even if I am on my second helping of whole wheat, fat free lasagna from my freezer! I had a GREAT time on the TM tonight and walloped my TM 5k PR -- sub-40:00 for the first time ever tonight -- 39:44!!! I had 94% FF popcorn on the way to the gym and a packet of sport beans on the TM, but I know fueling these workouts is a big challenge for me.

Hugs, all! And thank you so much for helping me stay on track!

I bought the Fiber One bars last night - the chocolate version. They are really good for 2 pts.
I don't know that they are better than any chocolate bar though, Cam! :rotfl:

Good Morning!

How is everyone today? I survived night two of the visit. Unfortunately, the hard part is about to come -- dh will be working all weekend. It's a volunteer thing, but not really, if you know what I mean. That means I'm the hostess.

I'm sure it will be fine, I'm just discombobulated. I'm going to do my best to avoid stress eating. With my every mouthful being watched, that should help.:rotfl: I also have to make sure I don't eat everything in sight the minute they leave on Wednesday. That could definitely happen.

Since I'm taking Monday off, this is my last post until Tuesday. Still no sign of a new home computer. Once dh's work settles down (crazed because of the visit of the JFK to Boston), we can focus on getting back online at home.

Thanks so much to everyone who offered a supportive word. That's just what I needed to see. It makes me feel like I'm not alone, so thank you very much!

According to the last time I did WW, 24 points is appropriate for my weight. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's definitely between 175 and 200, and definitely closer to the high end. I am going to weigh on Saturday, and I will report on Tuesday. Although I didn't get on the scale right before I started working out regularly six weeks ago, I'm pretty sure I was about 200, so that is where I consider myself starting from. I'm hoping I'm closer to 190 now, and going down.

Kristi -- O.k., guess I'll have to give the Fiber One bars a try! I also eat all day long, but I count what I'm having.

Cam -- Your photos are amazing! What a huge difference you have made in your life. And you look so happy and healthy. Your just glowing! Kristi is absolutely right, you look great!

I have to run, dh is here to give me a ride home in our nasty, rainy weather.

Everyone have a fantastic weekend and a great Monday, and I will be back on Tuesday!

Maria

Checking in after a couple of days...

Maria: I'm not sure about the WW points thing, but it definitely doesn't sound like you're eating too much. Maybe she's not used to seeing how active people have to eat? It's good to hear you're surviving the visit, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you this weekend. I know you can do it. :thumbsup2 As for the watching of the mouthfuls, you know what I think???? STARING contest! My money's on you!

Cam: OMG! 2 pounds and a new milestone for you!! :woohoo: :dance3: You've been doing so well. I'm so proud of you I don't even have the words. But just keep doing what you're doing and focusing on all that you're doing well. You look amazing--radiant, really, and have accomplished so much. Just look at your sub-40 minute 5K! You are an inspiration to us, woman!

Kristi: Definitely ask your doctor to do some tests...this is your body and health we're talking about. He should appreciate that you're monitoring yourself. And I haven't had the Fiber One bars--I may try them--but I agree. Better than a chocolate bar??? I'm a chocolate freak, and just hearing the word makes me want to try one out, just as a point of comparison.

Susan: It sounds like the Atlanta 10K will be fun (except for maybe the July 4th heat?) and it's made all the better by your cause. Wonderful photo of your nephews--they have great smiles! Not sure about the four teens thing, though. Teenagers scare me--and apparently I scare them (so say that ones I teach).

Texa: We're now running neck-and-neck with the C25K, which might be the only time I get to say running neck-and-neck with anyone! I fell a little behind this week and so today was my first 25 minutes since last Saturday! Boo, this means I'm behind schedule. Yea, this means I can cheer you one. You CAN do it!

Minnie: Good luck on your new job, finishing your finals, and starting your new courses. Whew! I wore myself right out just talking about it.

Re: the stomach issue. Speaking to the choir, sisters! One of the things that I've had a hard time getting used to is my stomach. After I lost all that weight (the first time, as some of those pounds got lonely and have come back to visit me, again and again and again), I was surprised. I didn't get my old body back, I got a new one. And it's shaped funny! What's this pooch in the stomach area (and I don't have kids!) Why are those breasts down there? And what's that? :scared1: Ah, my teen self didn't know how good she had it. Thank goodness for the right "foundation garments." I used to make fun of my mother for wearing them--now I'm on a quest for the perfect ones.

As for me, today is the first day I've felt up to a complete workout since last weekend. Most of this week I've come back from work, ate whatever held my interest, and then went to bed. DH is in the same boat. It's just that time of year. Sooo....I weighed myself and found I've lost a grand total of 5 pounds since I've started this journey with you. Feels like I'm working harder than that, but it is what it is. (How's that for a profound statement?)

The good news, as mentioned above, is that I'm running for 25 minutes without stopping! I can't say it's pleasant yet, but I am pleased that I'm doing it. And I feel lucky that our gym was open because we're right in the midst of blizzard season here--apparently it's a sign not to give up.

As for my eating today, harumph.
B: Oatmeal, banana, OJ
L: Yogurt with granola, apple with peanut butter and cheese, soda
D: I don't know--we'd planned to go out, but the weather might tell us to stay home and raid the fridge even though we're feeling a little stir crazy. If we do stay home, it'll be veggie stir fry, salad, pineapples.
S: Our monthly shipment of gourmet chocolate arrived, so guess what? (I allow myself one piece or ounce, depending on the month. It's truffles this month, so it look like one. DH eats two or three, depending. I hate his male-runner metabolism sometimes. )

I have been doing ok. We did go out for chinese for SIL's bday on Saturday though. Still, all in all, I am doing better than I was.

So, driving into work this morning, I was thinking (uh oh, right?)...
I think I am in need of a goal & a reward for when I reach it. My lowest weight watchers weight was 150. I have been bouncing around the 150s for a year and a half! So, I am thinking my goal is to get to 150.0 or less and I get to buy one of those cute running skirts I've been dying for! And it would be awesome if I could do this before the Minnie. I'd love a new black running skirt to wear with my new WISH tank top.

Hello guys can I pop in and say hi?

An old couple (even older than me) in their eighties were walking hand in hand through the mall. Someone walked up to them and said "wow you guys must have been together a long time, and still walking holding hands, like young lovers".

Well the old said, "I found out a long time ago if we walk holding hands everything was wonderful, but if I let her go she starts shopping".

On the news today, there is bus that crashed thinking it was still in the POV lane in Atlanta. I almost made exactly the same mistake when I drove to Disney last January.

You wish guys rock:goodvibes

Remember a smile is more aerodynamic than a frown, so smiling people have less resistance as they walk through life.

Walk strong y'all

Dave:)

Cam- you're such a cutie and congrat's on the weight loss!:cool1: I've hit a road block with my weight loss program. grrr!!!!!!!!!
