Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Debra: Sugar calls me too, usually in the form of bread! It's a hard one.....if I can hold out several days in a row, it seems to get easier.....but now, since I am not low carbing it's really hard! My carb intake is less than most people, but it's hard to get a balance and not over-do. This is one reason I saw the nutritionist....I am trying to focus on fueling! ;)

If I change my mind-set, and view food more with "what can this do for me?" mentality maybe it will get easier. I have such an addiction to bad food. I can be 'good' for awhile, but it always calls me back!

With my marathon a focus now, and the fact that I DON'T want to gain weight.....it's a little easier for me to say 'no' to bad food. Maybe this is the time to change my habits for good! :thumbsup2

Great job on the 2 pound loss.....and to think it's 40% of your short term goal is awesome! A very motivating way to look at it! It's not just 2 pounds....it's almost 1/2 way there! :cool1::cool1:

AFM: Well, I got on my TM this morning for intervals......ugh...... Intervals are hard for me anyway, but 5AM? :sad2: They got done though. I usually do the training program Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and then fill in the rest of the week with extra miles and strength training.....so it's Tuesday! I got them done (which I am happy about) but I am really feeling tired today. I did 5 miles yesterday, 45 min of stretch class, and an hour of Pilates......it was a struggle toward the end, I'll tell ya!

I am finding out that I am hungry in the evening for the last several days.....I don't think I am eating enough during the day. I will try to change that up today.

Beth

*** Vicky: WTG on the LR. I did 12 miles last week, and it felt like a death march.....glad to see you had a good 10 miler!

Continuation of the Super Food list.....

3. Blackberry fruit spread. Blackberries are particularly rich in fiber (just 1 cup of fresh berries provides more than 6 gr of fiber), but they're a seasonal fruit. Fortunately, you can get blackberry fruit spread anytime. Swirl this tart treat, which is also rich in fiber and vitamen C, into plain low fat yogurt, or use it as a topping for pancakes, toast, or bagels.

4. Blackstrap (dark) molasses. OK, it looks like sludge, but it packs a powerful nutritional punch. While most sweeteners offer little more than calories (regular table sugar, for instance, provides 46 calories per tablespoon but no essential vitamins or minerals), a tablespoon of balckstrap molasses provides about 20% of the daily value of iron and 580 milligrams of potassium - about 20% of the daily value. Pretty good for a sweetener. Use blackstrap molasses to top off a bowl of hot cereal of as a substitute for a portion of the sugar used in baking muffins or cookies. (For instance, if a recipe calls for 1 cup sugar, try using 1/2 cup of sugar with 3 to 4 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses.)

Ahoy there, Lean Ones!

I stuck with my WW pts yesterday, and got up and did 4M of incline walking. I'm changing up my workout schedule this week to accomodate DS's sleepover. My baby will be 12 in 3 days! Since the house will be crawling with Tweens Saturday morning, I'm going to do my LR Friday, which means shuffling, punting on one run and substituting another day of incline walking. But, since my objective right now is weight loss, I decided it's better to keep moving each day and rest on Saturday, then pick up with my normal week again on Sunday. So, this week it's walk, run, walk, run, walk, run, rest.

I also have yoga today, but it's "deep relaxation week", which basically means I'm taking a $5 nap. I do feel quite relaxed, but I don't get any of the good stretching. The instructor is willing, but most of the class is prone by the time I get my mat set up...:confused3

Beth -- I'm with you, I need to eat more earlier in the day. I struggle with breakfast, I just don't want to eat alot, but I know I need to eat more. Today I had eggs (1 egg and 1 egg white) and a clementine. I'll have a Kashi bar mid-morning -- and I consider all that breakfast. I do like blackberries...:goodvibes

Debra -- I do understand what you mean about the different levels of effort to reach goals. Dennis is able to eat anything and everything in copious amounts, and I have to watch every morsel that goes in my mouth...that's more frustrating for me. 40% of your goal is awesome! You are making phenomenal progress! Sometimes it's hard to get started (again), trust me, I know. But you are just jumping into the right mindset, and you are taking no prisoners! pirate:

Vicky -- I never saw Nathan on One Life, but I came to adore him on Buffy and Firefly. Anything he's in, I will definitely give a try, and I really enjoy Castle. :happytv: Kicking the junk food to the curb is a great move!

I'm a bit bummed because I have to Tivo the Biggest Loser tonight. I promised ds I'd watch American Idol with him. I find it less than entertaining, but my mommy-guilt kicked in. I also need to go to bed at 9:30, so I guess it really isn't too bad -- plus I can cut a ton by skipping the commercials, last change workout, and product promotions...:rolleyes1

Also on tonight's Tivo list, The Little Couple, Daily Show and Colbert Report. It's actually a light night! I'm skipping the re-airing of the last Lost episode, but extremely eager for next week!

Hey, where's Cindy, Wendy, Jackie, Shannon, Jeanne, Corinna, etc.? Let us know how your January is ending! :listen:

Maria :upsidedow

Hi Leanies!

Debra - WTG on the 40%!! :thumbsup2 I told DF that I wanted to go to the DL 1/2. He said he'd try to find a reason to be in LA that weekend  but the reality is that it's going to depend on our finances. We can get tickets on points but I was thinking of using those for next January. Curse that picture of that colourful C2C medal! :cutie:

As for the green tea, have you tried using leaves instead of bags? Do you have a tea shop near you? We have several in Toronto. You can usually get some interesting flavours. I really like Jasmine green tea or there's another flavour (the name escapes me) that has a more tropical/fruity taste.

Beth - WTG on the early morning intervals. I haven't been able to drag my butt out of bed since the winter started to do early morning runs. Good for you! I've been having the same evening hunger cravings too. No idea why ... :confused3

I've never used molasses before - do you think it would work in oatmeal as a sweetner?

AFM - I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon for a physical. I made a list of things to ask my doctor about and my PT gave me a list of blood tests to try and ask for. I don't think I've ever had any blood work done before so I think the list will give me a good base to start from. If you're wondering why, I'm afraid of needles. How dumb is that? I think I'll try and go for the blood work next Wednesday after my dentist appointment in the morning. I like to schedule all the fun stuff on the same day :upsidedow

As for the gym workout, we did a couple of different exercises last night including a trapdoor deadlift - which is just a deadlift using a different bar with handles on the side instead of the bar being in front. I can also now do the Spiderman crawl across the gym floor once without collapsing completely in the middle! Now I just have to work on being able to do it once each way consecutively :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Maria - WTG on the 4 miler this morning! The sleepover sounds fun but is probably a lot of work for you. How many are you expecting? Forgot that Lost was starting up again! Is it already the end of January??

Maria: The bedroom is dusty blue on top and dark navy on the bottom with a brown accent wall and white trim and ceiling. 4 colors of paint really killed us. I don’t know what I was thinking. Before we put the trim up I was worried that it was looking like a little boys room, but it looks nice now. I get closet doors delivered tomorrow, and then hopefully the furniture on Thursday! So excited!

Nice of you to offer your home for people to stay in. I love the Boston area. I have visited a couple times, expensive, but fun. Very different than Utah.

Vicky: I only dream about a 2:00 half. That is a great pace! For my half in a couple weeks I am just hoping to finish faster than my last, which was about exactly 3 hours. So any improvement will make me happy. I am adding running, after walking the last one, and hope that it doesn’t slow me down!

Debra: It would be fun to meet you at the DL half. I still have to sign up (just putting off spending the money as long as possible). I haven’t looked at airfare to CA yet, but it is usually about the same from SLC all year round. Personally I fly into Long Beach most of the time. I love the tiny airport, and it is usually cheaper than John Wayne, though not as close to DL.

Beth: You are amazing! I can’t even drag my sorry self out of bed for a walk that early anymore. Maybe when it warms up and the sun is actually thinking about getting up I will be able to do it, but in the dark and cold I just don’t have the strength.

AFM: I did it and I got on the Treadmill last night. I asked my DH if he wanted to go to the gym with me. He said yes, but then changed his mind, so I told him he could keep workingo n paint prep, but I was goign to get on the treadmill for a while. I did about 40 minutes. I can tell I lost some of my progress, but I have a couple weeks to get it back before my half.

Good Morning Leaners. I have finally caught up on this thread. I'm going to try to keep up, it's easier than trying to catch up.

Maria: We got the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas too. I need to start using it now. How do you like the Biggest Loser game? Great job on your PR for the ½. And running the whole way!!! Yea!! How is the no-snacking going. I really don’t think I could do that. I am so completely a grazer. Which of course is why I’ve usually used up all my WW pts before dinner time comes. I’ve always wanted to do Beach to Beacon, but it won’t fit in my schedule this year. Be sure to sign up on the first day because I hear it fills up right away. I think you should stick to the WDW half unless you have a burning desire to do the Full. DH’s decision shouldn’t influence what’s right for you. I do think it’s harder to lose weight while your training for a full. (Not impossible, but harder.) So let 2010 be about weight loss then 2011 can be about training for a full (Fall marathons are the easiest to train for in our part of the country because of the weather.) The only show I currently watch is Biggest Loser. I just can’t find time to watch anything, and if I do have the time, I’d rather be sleeping.

Rubato: How was the trip to WDW? I’m glad you had warmer weather than we did.

Debra: I’m sorry you are disappointed with your Goofy results. I think any time you can finish Goofy it’s something to be proud of. Especially with your limited training in Dec. and the blisters you got. I hope you are at peace with it by now. I love your “get lean” space. That should really help with focusing on your goals. I’ll add a few of my favorite quotes: “If not now, when?” and “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Great job on the 2 lb loss. 40% there, wohoo!! I am considering Philly RnR this year, but not sure I’ll be able to convince DH.

Corinna: Great job on your ½ marathon PR. To take 45 minutes off your time is phenomenal. It’s fantastic that you have reached your weight loss goal. Good luck maintaining. It seems you have quite a few races picked out. That’s great for keeping your motivation up.

Tracy: Glad to have met you at POP, if only briefly. Congrats on your WDW PR. Even though it’s not your fastest ½ ever, that’s still very impressive. Continued success on your WW journey.

Vicky: Congrats on your PB in the ½. An amazing improvement over last year’s race. Good for you to be back at the gym already. It seems like we just got back from WDW. I’d be interested in hearing what a nutritionist would tell you. Maybe I can figure out what I’ve been doing wrong. Good job on getting the junk out. Good luck with it. I think the molasses would be great in oatmeal.

Jackie: Sorry you were disappointed with your Goofy. I’m glad you have several races planned to set your sights on a PR. I’m relieved to hear you say that you were looking at your Garmin thinking it was wrong during your run last week. My run yesterday was pretty slow and it never entered my mind to give myself some slack after running 39.3 just 2 weeks ago. Great job on getting back to your pre-holiday weight.

Beth: Great job on the 2 lb loss. I’m glad the dietician thinks you are on target. 2000 calories sounds like a lot, but if you can eat that amount and feel energized for your workouts and still lose weight, yahoo. Love the TM for intervals. It’s just easier than on the track. Good job on getting up early.

Connie: Sorry I didn’t get to meet you at POP. I was more than just a little overwhelmed by everyone. I’m so sorry about your races. I hope your back has recovered. Good job on your healthy eating while at Disney. I know I can’t say the same. Great job on the 3 lb loss.

Shan: Good luck with your training for WDW 2011. Plenty of time to get the weight under control. Don’t worry about the scale being stubborn. Stick with it and you’ll see results.

Manda: Glad your DH was able to fix the TM. It’s good having a Handy Man. And great you got the Wii back too. Sorry to hear about the poor air quality. I never knew SLC was so polluted. Good job getting back on the TM yesterday.

As for Me: My stomach continues to be fussy. It was fine for a few days then started bothering me again. I'm trying to be more diligent on the timing of the medicine. Beth, it could entirely be stress-related, especially because it tends to bother me more at work than home.

Because of the stomach issues, eating has been messed up. My stomach seems happier when it is full. Not a good plan. I'm thinking I'm going to have to toughen up and just deal with a little discomfort and only eat what I should. I still have one more birthday cake to get through this weekend, then hopefully most of the temptations will be out of my house.

I officially started training yesterday for Boston. I ran 12 miles outside. The weather was rainy, but warm. I did feel really slow, but in retrospect it probably has a lot to do with having just run Goofy 2 weeks ago and eating poorly.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning Lean Ones (I stole that from Maria!)

Cindy, I am exhausted just from reading your post! I don't know how you managed to write all that! I am sorry your tummy is so unhappy. Hopefully, that will be figured out soon! Good job on the Goofy! That thing was rough!!! Did you qualify for Boston this year? I know you missed by...what one minute...last year?

Debra, The San Antonio RnR sounds fun. I could drive that, but it would still take a while...about 8 hours. :rotfl: I don't live by a coast! I am closer to Denver, CO than I am to Houston, TX! So there you go! Btw, I wouldn't run in a nude race OR take a nude class. I was suggesting videos! I couldn't believe it when I saw them in Hastings! I suppose though, a wall full of mirrors and that weight would come off!!!!!

About that sugar - I have a new book coming that I will be sharing with everyone. It is called "501 Ways to Cut Sugar From Any Diet". One of the truly weird things about sugar is that our brains recognize it and heroine! It is an addictive substance and the more you eat the more quickly your brain asks for more by creating a feeling of hunger. The trick is to avoid processed sugars, flour, pasta, rice and potatoes for 2 weeks. That craving/need will subside after that time. When you do eat any of those items, eat them in moderation with a protein. That helps slow the progression through the blood stream. Stick with fruit, whole grains, and legumes for that two weeks at every opportunity. You will be truly amazed at how sweet fruit is after that two week torture period!

Manda, Wow, your bedroom sounds really interesting. You will have to post a photo when it's all beautiful. Don't you just hate that feeling of having moved but you still live in the same house???

Are there many races in Utah? That would be an interesting place to go. What with all the National Parks and the Great Salt Lake... The landscape in Utah is about as varied from one place to another as it can get!

Vicky - I am still a long, long way from needing duct tape for my clothes! But thanks for giving me a smile!!! Before you have those blood tests done, call the lab and make sure that none of them require fasting and that it would be okay to have them AFTER your dental appointment. Never be afraid of needles, as with most things, it's not the needle it's the operator! :guilty: Good job on that gym thing. -- Molasses is VERY viscous and has a really strong flavor. It is the primary sugar in things like: Ginger Snaps and Ginger bread and other dark baked goods. I use it in baked beans because of the consistency and the strong flavor. It might take some getting used to!

Maria, thanks for offering up your home for a lean meet! I am better with 2011 than 2010 for a meet. Maybe by then, I will be back into my cute clothes. DH has a nephew and his family in the Boston area. Never been there, can't imagine the breadth and depth of that city! Amarillo is a big place to me! Love Castle, and the Biggest Loser. I always find it so odd that there is ALWAYS a serious game player and way often it's a woman. I would think that being able to have that kind of advantage in weight loss would completely absorb me and game playing would not even show up on my radar!

Beth - You must spend a lot of time researching foods! Thanks so much for your hard work! The late night hungrys usually are because you haven't eaten enough during the day. Spread your meals out and have snacks. They really, really help. Just make them health!

AFM - Had company yesterday and overnight that I wasn't expecting. DSIL and her DH showed up in the middle of a DIS post! Can you imagine?? :upsidedow I was glad I had supper in the crock pot already. Made visiting so much easier!

My new favorite breakfast is an egg scrambled with fresh spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and olives and just a touch of lite cream cheese to make it creamy. Yummmmmm!

My foot and back are steadily improving and I am starting Pilates. I LOVE what it does for my abs. That sounds a lot better than saying that it does great things for my belly! LOL The stretch tube posters are going up today, as well!!! It's that planning thing, you know. Wish I could be like Beth and Nike and just do it!

So maybe it's sounding like we should plan a 2011 Lean meet that we can all agree on, and then hopefully other races will fall into place with a few of them here and there? I'm all for Maria's neck of the woods, seeing as she's so kindly offered. But I'm also up for picking a special race we'd all like to do. We have plenty of time to prepare, discuss, and choose! :dance3:

Beth: I meant to say the other day, that it must have been very gratifying to have your dietitian pretty much confirm you're doing things right! :thumbsup2 And with your focus on consuming food as part of your overall marathon plan, that's got to be helpful not just for you but for your dietitian. A strong, healthy goal, a reasonable long-term focus.

Oh, yes, sugar in bread! No wonder I love it so much. It depresses me to think about how sugar lurks everywhere. But I certainly can get behind items #3 and #4 on the Superfoods list!

Maria: Crawling with tweens? Sounds like an infestation! :lmao: On the upside, shifting around your WO to accommodate DS sounds like a good way to keep your body "on its toes." :yay: The question is, whether it's better than a sleepover of your favorite WISHers? Hmmm.... (thanks for the offer...I need to look into stuff in your area).

And I need to thank you for the suggestion to log pounds lost as percentages. I know it's just psychological, but it REALLY does feel like I lost more if I put it into those numbers. :rotfl2:

Vicky: That you're scared of needles makes perfect sense to me--because I am, too. I avoid doctors when possible, and have to steel myself up for my regular bloodwork. Once I'm done with it, though, I find myself fascinated with the results; I hope the same for you.

And I totally understand about the finances. I keep telling DOOD we'd save a lot of money on race travel if 1) he'd just quit racing or 2) I went by myself. Somehow, he's not behind me on these ideas. So I can't wait to hear that you're able to Spiderman crawl across a floor and stealthily open a trapdoor with ease. Then we'll talk about that bank job that will get us both to Disneyland, high-roller style!

Manda: WTG with getting on the TM. And for 40 minutes--that's a good, heart-raising time! :thumbsup2 The room sounds quite lovely, and restful. Yes, pictures! I haven't signed up for DLR either--I'm horrible about such things. I never think about flying into Long Beach, so should check that out. I have flown into San Diego on a good price--well, I had a conference to go to, and extended my stay. Once I'm in CA, I might as well go to DLR!

Cindy: I have Wii Fit envy. Other than that, I think you need some of these: :grouphug: You sound a little down overall. Maybe those tummy troubles are affecting you in lots of ways. Not just needing to keep a full stomach, but all over physically. And probably mentally, too. I hope things get better soon. And I bet being able to focus on your training for Boston--and how awesome are YOU??!!--will give you a little lift, as well!

Connie: Really, closer to Denver? So much for my theory that in-state races would be easier for you. 8 hours is WAY too long a drive, IMO. Mirrors and a naked me would just drive me screaming from the room. :rotfl: "501 Ways to Cut Sugar From Any Diet" and addiction. What you've written sounds just so wrong. I mean, it jives entirely with my own body, but that's just so wrong. I really am looking forward to hearing more.

As for me: I had a frustrating work day today, and puttered way too much as I tried to avoid things. The upshot was, instead of running on my regular schedule, I almost, ALMOST talked myself out of working out. But, you're part of my inspiration, and "If not now, when"? So I got out for a run after 5 p.m. today, when it was darker and windier than I would have liked. But I did it. Thanks to you, and my fear of reporting any slackage to you. :worship::rotfl2:

Oh great. I had just about talked myself out of getting up for my run tomorrow, and then I read Debra'spost...I will not be surprised if I get up and do it, 'cause I'll feel too guilty!

I should get off the computer and get to bed. My work computer time is being infringed upon with another big project, but hopefully I'll make time to squeeze a decent post out. So good to hear from folks! You all made my day, checking in! :woohoo:

Have a peaceful one!

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning Leanies! It's Wednesday, and I am feeling good! This is my last work day this week, so I get an early weekend!

Debra: I am really glad to have made an appointment with the dietician. She is a great contact to have for questions, and a good reinforcement that I am doing some things right. The focus needs to be 'real' life. I don't want to diet anymore. The deprivation thing irritates me too much anymore. I want to lose weight doing what I normally do. That will make it a slow go, I know, but necessary. I cannot give up cookies for the rest of my life, so I might as well learn to eat them sensibly, instead of depriving myself then bingeing on them when I can't stand it anymore! ;)

Maria: So, did you get up? I did, and I am lucky that I did.....I do play the 'game' in the morning of figuring out when I can do my workout later in the day, so I don't have to get up. Trouble is, there is no 'other' time to get it done.....so I have to get up! I don't know why I waste time with the 'game' every morning.....I actually set my alarm earlier to give myself time to play the game every day! ((((how sad is that?))))) I am ALWAYS glad that I have gotten up, I am always sad if I don't. I just have to remember that!

Cindy: Have they run any tests on you? Maybe you have an ulcer......most people feel better on a full stomach when there is a gastric ulcer. The acid doesn't irritate the stomach wall as much when there is food in your stomach. I am sorry that it could be stress related......been there, don't want to go back! I hope things get better for you soon. :wizard:

Manda: Glad to hear that your TM is back in action. If my TM broke, I would be insane! And, I don't have a handy husband (((he only thinks he is!)))) so I would be waiting for the TM man! I am so happy with my TM! My dh was on it last week.....trying to run a little......but I think he isn't used to it, and he felt like the belt was slipping......I was :scared1: :scared1:.....all I said was "don't break my treadmill!" I was really scared that something would happen, and I would be without it.......never again! I don't share real well, as you can tell!

Connie: I love my Pilates class! I really think that is why my back is so much better than it usually is! It's a great strength training for abd's and back! Glad you are liking them too!

AFM: The new experiment is running in the morning, and doing the Power 90X workouts at night......last night was the first night for that. I am using a smoothie with skim milk, frozen strawberries, and some protein powder as a recovery drink in the morning and after the evening workout. I have to say right now I feel good with that. I have more energy today, than usual. I hope that works out ok!

Beth

Cindy: Sorry about the stomach issues. It doesn’t sound like any fun at all! Great job on getting out to do 12 miles. Amazing!

Connie: There are quite a few races in Utah. There is a full and half in Salt Lake City, and one in Ogden (a little further north) in the spring. I am going to sign up for a 10K at Bear Lake (which is on the Idaho border) there is a full and half with that one too. I know there are several down south, in the Moab and St. George areas too. Some of those fill up fast, but I hear they are beautiful.

Debra: Congrats on getting out yesterday. I was able to talk myself out of the treadmill, but we totally finished the painting in the room, so no more excuses!

Maria: Did you end up doing your run. I wish I had read Debra’s post before I slacked off of my exercise.

Beth: I don’t know how handy my DH is, he is just willing to break things and I am not. My TM was completely gone though. You couldn’t look at the belt without it slipping, so I figured there wasn’t much that he could do to break it further. I figured it had put in it’s time, I bought it fairly cheap about 6 years ago, and it has seen a lot of hard work. But I was happy that he could fix it. I didn’t have the money for a new one.

AFM: Yep, I slacked off last night. I had a killer day at work (every Tuesday I get to meet with my wonderful boss and discuss what I am working on and of course he always gives me more of his work to do during my down time. Love it. I shouldn’t let it get me so stress out but I do. I was really proud of myself for not running to the candy machine. I was SO tempted. I run to food for comfort, and when I am stuck at work there isn’t much else here I can do to get a break. But I didn’t give in! I figure that in and of itself was a pretty big thing for me. But I got home from work and my DH started to criticize me and it was over! Oh well. Today is a new day, and hopefully a better one.

Good Morning, Lean Ladies!

I am sorry to report the TM just didn't happen this morning. I was so tired, I just couldn't do it. I figure that means I needed the rest. I had a stressful day at work so I was mentally tired, and I had worked out the previous 4 days in a row, so I think my body just said no. I'll admit to a little game play -- dh is picking me up early so he can make a later afternoon meeting and I can pick up ds. This means I will have almost an extra hour at home this afternoon, so I'm hoping to just do 3 miles. 3 is better than 0. By the time I get out of the shower, I should be able to check ds's homework.

Beth -- Awesome news on the early weekend! I hope you are able to enjoy your time away from work. :thumbsup2

Debra -- Infestation is right. Trust me, a WISHer sleepover would be more fun :woohoo:, and I would need less food (or at least food that's better for me!)...I can't believe how tween boys eat, but I bet Beth can!

Connie -- I totally agree with you about BL. There is always one...I can see when it gets down to 6 or so, but at this point I would just be worrying about myself and learning all I could while I was there. :confused3 I may steal your new favorite breakfast, 'cause that sounds seriously yummy!

Cindy -- No snacking goes better some days than others. When I remember to really eat enough at my meals, it's good. When I skimp and have a 1pt soup and 2 pt chips, I get hungry too soon. It does help to eat a bigger portion at dinner than I had been, and not leave too many pts at the end of the day. I don't know why I was doing that, saving them "just in case" I got hungry. That's silly, because of course I always do get hungry, and then I eat junk. I need to spend the points my real meals! ::yes:: I am so sorry about your stomach issues. My dh went through something similar two years ago. He still sees the gastroenterologist regularly, and has been prescribed big doses of prilosec every day, which keeps his stomach acid at a manageable level. I tell you that because it took awhile to figure out what the best course of management was -- so don't get discouraged!

Manda -- Your color scheme sounds very elegant and restful, but I agree, 4 colors of paint...I don't think I could talk dh into that! :rotfl: I'm glad you are training for your Half, It will be here before you it! :yay: And here's a , it sounds like you need a big one every Tuesday.

Vicky -- Actually this sleepover isn't bad. It will just be 3 kids. DH is taking them snow tubing first, so they'll be --ok, they don't seem to get tired, but as long as we keep feeding them, they're actually really good kids. DS got a ping pong table for Christmas, and that will keep them occupied. Our work in progress is converting ds's playroom into a tween hangout. We also got him an electronic dart board we need to hang. Honestly, the hardest part is making sure we picked up enough snacks. These kids will eat apples, clementines, bananas, etc., so I know they're actually hungry. We also provide chips, ice cream, etc., along with dinner. My ds doesn't like cake, so we don't do a birthday cake, we do ice cream instead.

So, looks like we're heading to Maine after the kids go home Saturday. I still need a new winter coat, dh wants to get out of the city, and the weather should be ok. The only downside is I may have the fun of seeing the SIL who is my least favorite. On the bright side, she won't have much time for us :rolleyes1

Ok, back to the work....This week is all downhill from here, right?! :cheer2:

Maria :upsidedow

Debra - Congratulations on the 2 pounds! 40% sounds really good. I think I'm at 1.5. I'm having some trouble figuring out what the starting number is, but finally decided this morning to use the one immediately post-Goofy. I had lost 2, but gained .5 back. Plus, it's TOM week. UGH. 'Nuff said.

Connie - That's very good information about sugar. Unfortunately, those items are the bulk of my diet! I know that's not good, but it's reality. I'm trying really hard to change that proportion, but it's a slow process. I have recently developed a real taste for apples, so I'm introducing fruit on a daily basis where it wasn't before. But bread and I, we're just really good friends. But don't give up on me. Share the book!

Manda - Don't feel bad. I keep reading about everyone's workouts, and I STILL haven't run this week. I ran Saturday, took the dogs hiking on Sunday, and haven't moved since. The bag is in the car with my running gear in it. Does that count?

Everyone's making me feel really guilty about not doing anything this week. I'm blaming it partially on DH. We ALWAYS run together on Monday or Tuesday, and he went out Monday morning while I was at work and ran, which completely screwed up the schedule. I just haven't been able to motivate myself to run alone. I've gotten so accustomed to him setting the schedule that I can talk myself out of a run really easily now - that's not good. On the better front, I have been carefully watching what I eat all week, with only a few distractions. My boss went to our favorite burger/shake place on Monday and asked me if I wanted a milkshake - I told him no and was very proud of myself. He bought me one anyway. :sad1: And since he bought it, there was nothing I could do but eat it. :guilty: I did, however, split it over 2 days. Somehow that seemed not as bad? The next few days won't be easy - TOM arrives, and with that come the migraines and even less motivation to work out. Then Saturday's LR is about to be seriously derailed by the weather, so it will be the TM or nothing. I don't know how my coworkers will feel if I take off Friday AM so I can get in the miles before the snow comes, especially since there are only 2 of us working that day. :rolleyes1

Jackie -- Please don't feel bad! We all have those weeks  -- well, at least I do! :rotfl2: Sometimes it's just not happening, and that's ok. I'm energized because TOM has passed for me -- and I so understand. I think splitting the shake over two days was a great solution! :thumbsup2

Oh, and on the NSV front -- I bought new hosiery this weekend in a smaller size, and it is actually easy to get up! Please don't laugh too hard, that actually is an accomplishment for me :yay: I've been thinking all day I'm going to start wearing more skirts and dresses, now I don't have to battle the hosiery. :rotfl:

Morning Leanies!

Maria - Hooray for the healthy snacks! I hope you get lots of the white stuff for the winter tubing this weekend! Mornings are hard when you're stressed and tired. I use to have to take a morning off here and there during the summer. Good luck with the 3 miles this afternoon! I'm thinking good thoughts for you :)

Manda - I hate those meetings! My manager is pretty hands off (which is actually an understatement). Ugh! Is the new work at least interesting or just keep busy stuff?

Beth - Enjoy the early weekend! I love smoothies! I make them after my LRs on the weekend. They're great because I'm usually really hungry after a LR but pretty cold in the winter! How are you finding the Power 90x workouts?

Debra - Good for you for going out and running last night! Not an easy thing to do in the winter... If only I could stick to the wall like Spiderman, then we'd be talking! Until then, I'm saving my Starbucks coffee money in a little jar. I guess it's just as well since they seem to have some new treats in stock.

Connie - I like also like the sound of your breakfast omelet! Someone else told me that about needles - that if you get someone with a really steady hand, you won't even feel it. Hasn't happened yet but I think that's probably because I jump a little when poked

Cindy - WTG on your 12 miler! I will definitely let you know what the nutritionist says. I haven't heard back from her yet about an initial appointment. pixiedust: Here's hoping your stomach issues get resolved soon.

Jackie - Oooh, the milkshake is a tough one, especially since he bought it for you. I usually hide the food I take from meetings under a napkin on my desk or I put it back into the kitchen. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have good weather this weekend!

AFM - I went to the doctor's last night. What an ... interesting experience. First of all, she was about 1/2 hour late. I wouldn't have cared, if the nurse had left me dressed in the waiting room. Instead I was left waiting on the exam table in a paper gown. I asked her about getting some extra blood work done since I don't think I'd ever had one done before. She told me that I didn't need any of the cholesterol, sugar etc. tests until I was 40 - because I have no family history and because I'm in good shape. The needle phobic part of me was happy but I didn't feel like she was correct. She also reminded me that unnecessary tests cost the government money ... Ah-ha! The truth comes out! But then I remembered that I pay taxes too. Hey! :confused3 I did push I got a requisition for cholesterol, sugar, CBC, chicken pox and Rubella. The Rubella was her idea and she was really concerned about that one. I don't know why.

I also asked her to look at my foot. I had some pain on the left foot on the outside and where the baby toe meet the foot. She had no hesitation in ordering me a xray. I thought it might just be a sore muscle but she said it could be a hairline fracture. :scared1: Now my foot feels all itchy (probably all in my head) so I'm going to give it a rest and stay inside do some yoga. Oh ... and did you all know that you could easily prevent all these aches and pains if you just stopped running. Hmm... Her words, not mine :rolleyes:

Anyway, have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I have to report in before I go to bed... I DID run tonight. DH and I did 4.5 miles. Had hoped for 5+, but started having problems with shin splints after the first mile. Usually once I warm up (after mile 2) they'll go away, but the pain transitioned to the ankle and just persisted. We ended up taking it slower than either of us wanted and adding a couple of walk breaks, but I was determined to get at least 4 miles in.

Then we went out for dinner and I had one beer and 3 slices of pizza. Probably not the best choice... but the next stop was the grocery store, and I was full so I skipped right over all the bad stuff!

Vicky - I don't like your doctor! Not running is not an option. And wow, your experience is an interesting example of the difference in health care systems. Doctors here think nothing of ordering blood tests. It's an expected part of an annual physical. And you may have to cross more than your fingers to help our weather forecast. Our running group has already put the run on hold until Friday night.

Good morning Lean Ladies! It's Thursday! Yippiee!

Today is my long run. Only 10 this week, drop down week! Another reason to celebrate! The 12 miler last week was tough.....so I am glad this week is only 10. My friend Heidi has graciously offered to run with me again; it makes it so much nicer to get it done with company. I usually run alone, but Heidi and I started running several race together last year and I discovered that I like it!

Jackie: I love pizza. Pizza and cookies are the reason for my 'new' outlook with weight loss. I want to lose weight slowly, while including my favorite food! So far it's working for me!

Vicky: Yes, your Health care system is different than ours! My doctor is always looking for another blood test to run! I do think it's valuable information though. I usually have blood test every other year. Speaking of that I have a blood work slip upstairs to get.....it's fasting, and I tend to 'skip' it because of having early morning workouts! I will get it done within the next month! Promise!

AFM: OK......the Power 90 X is a great workout so far. I haven't done anything but chest and back, and it was a tough workout. Yesterday was to be Pylometrics, but I decided to do my regular class at the gym. Pylometrics is alot of jumping.....which helped my decision for the gym.....but guess what class was? "Sports" training with alot of ....wait for it......you got it ..... jumping! I couldn't believe it....thought I was getting out of something, but things have a funny way of working out. So, it got done including ab's!

I am aiming to get rid of the squeshy belly.....and my fat back. That's the reason for the Power 90X! I am 'bringing it'!

I got 5.5 miles in yesterday morning, and by 10 pm I was exhausted!

I have been pretty on target with eating too....I am down 3 pounds. I'll take it!

Beth

Hi Leanies!

Jackie - I know with our health care system there are a lot of people who'd rather just pay for things and get it done instead of waiting. A lot of times, it's not allowed and that's why people end up traveling to the US for surgeries and what not. I thought my doctor was much more open to the idea of getting a baseline read of my overall health but I guess not. I really was disappointed when I thought about it more and realized that I probably would have gotten the testing with little fuss if I had been inactive and overweight. Kind of sad.

Good job on getting the miles in last night, even with your shins acting up. Hope they feel better today! No comment on the pizza because I'm a real sucker for pizza too :)

Beth - WTG on the 3 pound loss!! Too funny about skipping the plyo workout only to get a jumping workout in the gym. I like the jumping and speedwork exercises but don't do them as often as I should. And ditto for me on the squishy belly ...

AFM - I finally decided to weigh myself last night. The last time I weighed myself was at the end of October. So I'm up 3.3 pound - not as bad as I thought but still not great. At least I know what I need to do :) I'm back at the gym tonight for a quick 1/2 hour workout and then will hit the TM for a quick 2 miles after that.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning, Leanies!

I took Corinna's advice on another thread and just rested yesterday. I woke up this morning ready to go! I did 4M of incline walking, and tomorrow I'm going to do my 6M. If I keep writing that everywhere, it has to happen :thumbsup2

I got too hungry yesterday and I had to have a snack. I had frosted shredded mini wheats. Not the best, but better than Cheetos! :rotfl: Today I have Select Harvest Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla soup with my veggies and yogurt for lunch. I had a vitamuffin and 2 clementines for breakfast. I have to go see a building at 2:30, so I definitely plan to eat enough to avoid snacking. I will have to grab a kashi bar before I go to church tonight, I won't be done with that meeting until 8. I'll have a fresco-style bean burrito from Taco Bell after church. It's on the way home, and it calls to me. :flower3:

Vicky -- I bet you take of those lbs before you know it! It sounds like you have a good plan. :goodvibes By the way, I hate needles, too. I just keep telling myself at least it doesn't last as long as giving birth  :rotfl2: Have you heard about your foot yet? I can't believe a physician would suggest you stop exercising. Sounds counterintuitive to me...:confused3

Beth -- I love that you are "only" running 10 this week...Being down 3, especially considering how much you have already lost, is amazing! You are just kickin' that weight to the curb! :yay:

Jackie -- Sorry about the shin splints, but congrats on getting that run in! :dance3:

Howdies to everyone else! I have to get going on my projects. Pesky work!
