Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Hi everyone! I made it back to Toronto safe and sound :) As for marathon weekend, wow! The morning of the half was chilly and I wasn't prepared for that. I wore the same clothes that I would for running in 15F weather but forgot that we'd have to wait around to be let into the corrals and then again in the corrals. I did a bunch of dynamic warm up exercises but never really did warm up. I'm sure everyone's already heard about the snow, ice pellets and rain so I won't bore you with that. Going back to the resort was a little funny. I got back to my building with another runner and we were so relieved to get into the warmth. I was actually glad that I saw her with her room key because I don't think my hands and fingers were working all that well at that point. We ran up to the lounge for a hot chocolate but there were a ton of people still there eating breakfast - I guess the rain was keeping everyone inside. Got a few weird looks but I guess that's part of the fun. Anyway in spite of the weather, I PB'ed at 2:11:22 which is about 4 minutes better than my last half and a big improvement over last year's DW half 2:28:47. Yay!

Eating and exercise haven't been great over the last week or so  I ate waaay too much of everything and mostly because it was there. So this week, it's back to clean(ish) eating and regular exercise. I'm also going to jump into training for my 30K at the end of March.

Tracy - Great seeing you at the dessert party and then at MK! You must be racking up the bling with so many races! Do you have a time goal in mind for the 1/2 distance? Hope everything goes well at the podiatrist!

Corinna - I don't think that we did but I will remember to look out for you at the next WISH meet :) I'm pretty shy so I tend to lurk even at the meets. Congrats on your PR! Knocking 45 mins from last year's time is huge!! Did you decide on the 1/2 next weekend?

Debra - Gotta love the ice cream - I think if I do it again, I might go faster. Everything just kind of turned soupy at the end :) My feet were pretty yucky at the of the half too. No blisters but they looked like I'd been soaking them in an ice bath for 2+ hours :(

Beth - I've read the same thing about exercising in the morning on an empty stomach. Never did think about drinking juice either because I've pretty much eliminated it from my diet. I'll have to give it a try on my shorter runs next time. How much did she recommend drinking for the mileage you were running? Btw, do you have a copy of the 1/2 training program that you can post or send to me? Sounds interesting :)

rubato - I'm glad you're going to have warm weather at WDW! Hope you're having a fun time on your trip!

Manda - Are you able to get your TM repaired or is it completely gone? I don't run when I have a migraine either.

Jackie - pixiedust: for your cold! Hope it disappears soon. You're getting pretty speedy! I think you can definitely do 2:30 for your next race! Can't wait to hear about it :) Btw, what are some of the foot strengthening exercises you're doing?

Cindy - How were your Goofy races? Have your stomach issues disappeared?

Maria - I missed you again at the Pop meet :( The trip to Atlantis sounds cool!

Phew! That's a long post - have a great night everyone :wave2:

I'm impressed at how many of you have gotten back into your exercise & healthy eating routine after the Marathon Weekend. How do you stay motivated to keep running and watch what you eat to lose weight? The long training in Michigan weather compounded by the harsh weather in Florida for the run just tapped me......And I am 12 pounds over weight. I've been to weight watchers several times and finally realized that I know what to do. I just don't have the motivation to do it. So how do you find the motivation to stay on target???

Vicky: Welcome Back! We missed you! You did a great job with the PR! Great job for the weather and everything. You must be doing something right! ;)

The training plan is in the Women's Running Magazine. They don't have it on the web site.....I looked. It's 13 weeks long......I could post it, but I will have to type it in. It would be better if you got the magazine though.....the article explains it so well. It's the first time I really understood what they mean with Tempo runs, farleks, etc. It's a great article.

I am drinking 4 oz of juice......about 15 carbs for my morning run which is 60 minutes. She has me drinking juice since it's quick to get to the blood stream and to the liver. When you eat, you need time to digest.....and I don't have that time in the morning. I, too, have eliminated juice from my diet, but in this case I will add it in. I would rather burn the sugar that muscle!

I have been doing a food journal for the week to send the dietician on Livestrong.com. It's really easy to use....I haven't minded it at all. I was brutially honest with it and have journaled the good, the bad, and the ugly. If I want a true plan, I had to be honest. We'll see!

Beth

Corinna: Holy Schamoley, girl! That's fantastic news about hitting your goal weight & a fabulous BF%! Hitting that athlete range is a goal for many of us, so I'm glad to see you're one of the folks leading the way. And it's got to feel good that you reached it officially, with someone else measuring and all (not that *I* would fudge on such things...:rotfl2:)

And I'm also very impressed that you're comtemplating--gonna go through with--another half so quickly. Yep, you're a fanatic. And I like to think I'm an enabler! :thumbsup2

Oh, about the bodyglide. Yep, tried it. I generally go with blister block for short runs, with lots of moisturizer, and vaseline on my feet, socks, and shoes for anything over an hour. Just lucky with the blisters, I guess. :upsidedow

Tracy: I'm sorry to hear you're in pain! You're another one who's done so terrific this year. Getting rid of baggy clothes is SUCH a big deal and a great feeling. (I tend to keep them, as I'm not nearly as confident as you.) And you've done it steady, over the long haul. I know I've said this to you in person, but I'm also impressed by how effortlessly you make racewalking look, and now that you're incorporating running into your routine I just know your first marathon (Disney 2011, whoo hoo) will be stellar!

Vicky: Congrats on the PB! I know you had a great time because you looked just as up and energetic Sunday night as you did at Friday's Pop meet! I have a feeling you're going to shave more time off this year's halfs, too! I'll be eating clean(ish) too this year, but I'm thinking you of all people could talk me into another ice-cream escapade.

Shelley: Ah, for me, the motivation is two-fold. Unlike my esteemed Leaners here, I wasn't pleased with my race or how I felt afterwards. Must. do. better. :lmao: Oh, and to be totally vain--because this is one of the few places I can be without feelign guilty about it :grouphug:--I absolutely hated the way I looked in WISH pictures this weekend. I know that probably doesn't help YOU a lot, so I'll also say this. This group of people, my lovely friends, are always here to help me pick myself up & jump back on the wagon. :cheer2: They help keep me accountable, kick me in the booty when I need it, and pat me on the back even when I don't think I deserve it. There's no better place to be.

Beth: I'll pick up the magazine, then, and check it out. Goodness knows I could do with a solid definition of a fartlek run (which, in my life, is something like "too disorganized and lazy to follow a plan"). I'm really interested in hearing how the juice works out for you, and the journal. :thumbsup2

As for me: Okay, so I'm a big liar about having the plan today. I'd forgotten about holiday, and I spent some time this weekend at MLK, Jr. events and some Haiti fundraisers (combined). That, and DOOD's semester starts; he picked up a last-minute class in Am. culture that I turned down (why? I don't know, not his field) and I've been helping him with the syllabus and assignments. It almost makes me think I should have just taken the class, but then again I don't need to grade the papers or teach the students, just provide the materials! :upsidedow

Anyway, while I didn't solidify my overall plan--let alone next race--I did get some nice long workouts in. And I restarted my weight training this weekend. That's definitely a priority for me. I do too much cardio, even though I know building muscle is so important. I also did my official weigh in. It's the same as when I returned from Orlando, no loss, no gain. That means I have to lose 10 pounds to be comfortable, 13 to reach my goal, and 15 to reach a weight that I'd be ecstatic about.

BUT....since I tend to bite off more than I can chew (in so many ways), I'm breaking down the weight loss into increments of 5 pounds each. So, right now I have 5 pounds to go, with a weight loss so far of 0/5. :rolleyes1

Good morning everyone. I'm so sorry to have been gone for so long. I feel like I've been all out for a month now. I'm hoping that things settle down soon, but since my twin's bdays are this weekend and my DS's is next weekend, I have a bunch of parties to get ready for, so it will be Feb 1st before I'm really done going full speed. I have to go back and read all the posts still. Until then I'll just write all about me. (sorry)

I had a fantastic week at Disney. I went to the POP meet on Friday. It is so stressful for me to go and introduce myself to people, but I was so glad I did. I met Vicky and her DF and Debra. So happy to have met you both. Maria, were you there? I was really hoping to meet you. Vicky, I was telling my DH that I knew you thru the weight loss thread and he said, "She's on the weight loss thread?" incredulously. That's just a testament to how fabulous you look. Of course, he didn't question what I was doing on the WL thread??? My stomach was still bothering me quite a bit on Saturday, but running seemed to help it a lot. I even managed to get several gels down. I didn't meet up with many WISHers before the race since everyone was all so bundled it was had to see the lime green, but was glad for the company of the few I did meet. I could not believe how cold I was standing around it the coral before the start. I did have an extra sweatshirt, wind pants, blanket, and rain poncho, but was still cold. Once the race started I warmed up right away. After a 1/2 mile I had shed all the extra clothes and was fine for the rest of the race. I met up with 3 guys from the WISH team including Debra's DOOD and ran the entire race with them. It was such a great way to run the race. I ended up going faster (2:08) than I had originally planned, but I think having company more than made up for it. As soon as the race was finished I had to head back to the hotel. I was so cold I couldn't stop shivering. I felt badly that I couldn't stay to cheer for others, but I knew I needed to warm up.
On Sunday it was even colder. Luckily someone had handed out trash bags at the POP meet, so I was able to keep somewhat warm with an extra sweatshirt, towel and the bag. I ran most of the race by myself, although occasionally I'd meet up with a WISHer and run together for a short time. I felt pretty good thru 18.5 miles, then had to start walking occasionally. Nothing really hurt, but my legs were tired and tight. At that point I was just tired of running. I ended up finishing in 4:49 which I was plenty happy about considering the training I had in December.
My stomach is OK now, not great, but OK. I am taking 2 prescriptions which seem to be helping. At least now I can eat. I did plenty of that during the week at Disney. I know I need to buckle down now and get back to it, but I am lacking the motivation to do it.
Sorry for the long post. I hope to be back later to read all the posts I missed. Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Debra: The juice is working out fine with me. I think I have a little more pep in my early run, which isn't usually the case. I am getting over the whole 'all or nothing' mentality. I figure if the juice is helping me not break down muscle, it will work for me! I am burning it off right away......it's all for a good cause. I eliminated juice from my diet b/c of the high calorie content. But, since it's handy to get the glucose immediately on board, I am going with it! I only drink 4 oz when I get up......I folllow my run with a glass of skim milk. I didn't get enough dairy in my diet when I was on low carb, so I make the endeavor to get in a glass as a recovery drink.

The Livestrong web site has a great food journal. It's super easy to do, and I finished a week to send to the dietician. I think I will keep it up for awhile....just to get a grip on what I am eating.

I have 18 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight......I really don't care how long it takes me, as long as the scale goes down and not up. I would like to have at least 10 pounds of it off by my marathon.....we'll see!

I am putting in over 40 miles a week at this point......but the weight certainly isn't 'falling' off me yet!

Beth

Hi Leanies!

Beth - I missed you and all the Leanies while I was away too! I'll have a look for that magazine the next time I'm at the bookstore. I'm glad the juice is working out for you. I know what you mean when you say it gives you that extra boost. I notice it myself running on an empty stomach but if I'm running on a weekday morning I don't have much time for running let alone digestion. I like the Livestrong site too - lots of great videos that show you how to do a particular exercise. I didn't know it had journalling.

Debra - WTG on not gaining during the trip! And I like your idea of breaking down the weight loss into increments. I do that at the gym with reps so it never feels like I'm doing as many as I really am. Oh, I don't need much convincing for ice cream (or any other type of dessert ... unfortunately  ). Are you going to do any of the Disney races next January? I told my PT about the Kitchen Sink - he asked to see and picture, then asked how many people it was suppose to feed

Cindy - Awww! What a great compliment! I was thinking the same thing about you and Debra too! Congrats on Goofy!! Sorry to hear the stomach issue is still lingering. I hope it's not anything serious

AFM - I had my first post trip workout yesterday night. I was dreading it a little but it turned out okay. My PT said my recovery was great and thought the time off was good for me. I had a little trouble with the deadlifting since I left my gloves at home but we never did go very heavy. A little bit of post workout muscle soreness but nothing unmangeable.

I want to add a 2:00 half marathon to my list of goals but am having trouble fitting the races in. I have two half marathons (May, September) and two 30 K races (March, August). Maybe just take it easier on the 30Ks so that I can race on the halfs? Something for me to think about I guess :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey Lean Ladies!

I'm not sure when I 'll have to stop posting, so no one be offended it it's almost mid-word...

I am back, back at home, work, and on the TM! I won't bore everyone else with my sob story about the conditions none of us trained for -- I finished without injury in 3:11, which actually was a PR for me. Not nearly as fast as I had hoped, but I did run the entire way, and I finished feeling much stronger than I have before.

I have way more work than I should, my house is slowly becoming mine again, and I've been on the TM twice, for 3 and 4M. I'm planning to do 5 Thursday morning, we shall see. I'm having a hard time shifting back to getting up really early, since I haven't been able to do that since before Christmas.

I did not make any of the meets, I am sorry to say. I had two different families with us, and it quickly became apparent we were not going to be able to leave at will. I was also a bit disappointed in my SILs, although they were injured. My SIL who was doing the 5K bailed because of her back, my SIL who was doing the Half bailed because of her plantar fascititis. My BILs all stayed in, but I admit I was envious as they talked about enjoying their relaxing mornings and picking up that cute Mickey merchandise at the Expo. Don't get me wrong, I don't care what you buy, but it just doesn't feel right to me to buy Mickey or Goofy stuff if I'm not at least attempting that race! I also feel like a bit of vindication was missed -- they have no idea how hard I have to work to finish the race. I don't mean I work harder than anyone else, I just mean they've never done it or tried it, and don't realize that even though I am bigger than they are, I can be athletic. Ok, enough of my complex. :rolleyes1

I am now more determined than ever to get my act together and lose more weight. I'm pretty sure that's the only way I'll get faster. While I haven't been on the TM much, I have tried something new with my diet. I'm not eating snacks. I'm eating more than I normally do for breakfast, bunching the food I string throughout the day altogether at lunch, and then not eating after dinner. I don't know if it will help, but considering how much I can put away in an evening, it can't hurt! :rotfl: My problem is 1-100 cal snack turns into 5 before I know it. If I have one as my dessert, I have to stop right there.

I have to do a better job of eating for fuel instead of entertainment. I did restock the house with fruit, veggies and 100 cal packs, so hopefully that coupled with a greater awareness of what I'm doing will propel me forward. I gained 1 lb after my week away, so I was extremely pleased as that is a first for me.

Has anyone caught "One Big Happy Family" on TLC? This family is crying out for good advice about health and fitness, and I really hope they are getting it. The entire family is 300+, and while it is interesting to see how they live, I just keep wishing they would send in some experts to give them (and me!) advice. They have decided to get healthy, but don't seem to have the tools they need to move forward. Finding out spinach doesn't come in a can was a revelation for the father...I do like that they are real people. The mom works two jobs and the dad is a SAHD. They are clearly also finally figuring out they are ruining their health with their size.

Vicky -- You are a racing machine! I think it is great you have lofty goals, and I hope you find a way to fit it all in! :thumbsup2

Beth -- 40M weeks?! Wow...that's all I can say. The juice sounds like it is really helping. I'm going to keep that in mind for next year when I'm doing my LRs

Cindy -- My dh was right ahead of you! He finished in 2:03, and now wants to go sub 2, and I'm sure he will. He's debating doing the Full next year. I think I'll stick with the Half. If I thought I'd lose the weight by moving to the Full, I'd do it. From what everyone says, I might actually gain :scared1: I am really sorry I missed meeting you and everyone else. I'm thinking about doing Beach to Beacon, is that a race you do? :confused3

Debra -- One thing we're doing on the BL thread this time is also reporting by % to goal. Would it help you to think of it that way? When you lose 3 lbs, you will be 60% of the way to your first goal! :goodvibes

Corinna -- So proud you have arrived! And I wish everyone could see how incredibly fabulous you look! I'm also taking your trick of ordering a kids meal the next time I'm at the POR food court. That spaghetti looked good, and much leaner than the scary concoctions I was seeing for adults!

Big howdies to every else

Let's hit this new year full tilt and run that fat away! :cheer2: (ok, except for Corinna, and Vicky, and ...)

Maria :upsidedow

Hi Leanies!

I have been gone so long, (I just got back in yesterday evening) I don't think I have THAT big a power post in me!

Maria and Debra and everyone at the POP meet that I failed to meet, ...dang it! I was looking forward to meeting you all. Good news though, I am in the picture! To be honest, I was a little..ahem..a lot overwhelmed! I do great in front of a captive audience, but not so good at mingling and chatting! :rotfl:

AFM - I failed. I didn't even finish the 1/2. I didn't even start the full. I was so cold and in so much pain and because of the pain I just couldn't get it together. I should have easily finished the half, but the conditions and my personal health issues worked against me. I talked to my son on the phone that night and told him that I was even crying. He paused and said that he couldn't remember EVER seeing me cry. He's 31. My race partner wouldn't leave me and almost got swept, that would have been a bigger tragedy than just my own, but she absolutely refused to leave me anywhere but a medical tent. I made a huge effort to pick up my speed to keep her in the race. That was my only success. Well, except that I didnt' get swept...I was 5 - 6 minutes in front of the sweepers. Anyway, I AM a halfer from here on out. Btw, in a Disney race, you must never, ever say a thing about a previous injury in a medical tent! I had to cycle through three med tents (and four volunteers in the BIG tent) before they let me leave for my room! I think they thought I was seriously injured because of the tears, the chills, and the frustration I couldn't fight And to top that off, my back is out because I am STILL limping!

The metabolic syndrome that i have been diagnosed with is pretty scary. The doc thinks it's probably a result of a poor functioning thyroid. But i am also insulin resistant which means that I will have rheumatoid arthritis with strokes or heart desease with diabetes in my future. UNLESS, I eat like I had diabetes already. The good news is I practiced in WDW. Very few people know more about a diabetic diet than I do. And I think fewer still could just decide to do it and then DO it! So, I practiced. I figured if I could have any success with actually doing it, the challenge would be the Disney Dining Plan for 12 days! Not only did I NOT gain weight (a triumph in and of itself), I actually decreased my waist by 2 inches! And I am not puffy like I was when I traveled to WDW.

So, the philosophical part of my brain says, "I didn't do what I thought I set out to do, but in the end, it would only have been a sprint and now I have the REAL marathon before me!" I believe...had I not trained for the Goofy, I wouldn't know what I know today. And when I say I have a slow metabolism, turns out, I am one of those rare people who really does!! :lmao:

Congratulations to everyone who finished their race/races. It is a huge accomplishment given the weather conditions and everything. You all have a personal best as far as I am concerned!

Welcome to Shelly, this is a good place to be. Beth and Manda and everyone who kept us on top of WISH, thanks for thinking of us and cheering us. I hope you all know that I am in your corner! This is a great year!

Connie -- Sending you a huge hug! Your post helped remind me what it's all about -- and it's not necessarily finishing the race...You are my hero, and I am so proud of you!

Maria :upsidedow

Beth - Thanks for the encouragement. I knew Disney was a long shot for a PR, but it was a dream nonetheless. It was a good learning experience. Finishing was a huge deal, and now that I'm more removed from it I'm really proud of what I accomplished. I saw some of my running group last weekend and one of the women swore I was glowing!

Corinna - Congratulations on deciding that you've achieved your ideal weight! You've got a great race calendar for the year. And fabulous times on your half!

Tracy - Great job getting back at it. You had a terrific half. Even if you didn't PR, you were super fast! I kept thinking that surely I could catch you, but it just wouldn't happen.

Vicky
- Wow! What an improvement over the DW Half! I saw you at the meet, but never got a chance to say hello.

Debra - I like your weight loss idea of breaking it down into 5 pound increments. I probably need to lose about the same - 10 would be comfortable, 15 ecstatic. So we're into chunk #1 now, right?

Cindy - Glad you're back. Aren't trash bags wonderful?

Maria - Welcome back! Sorry about all the family drama. But you had a great race. Even if you didn't get the time you wanted, you ran the entire time, and that's wonderful! Conditions were horrible, so that makes it even better. It sounds like you have a good grasp on what you need to do to get even more weight off this year.

Connie - What an amazing story. I'm sorry you had such a painful experience, but it sounds like not finishing was the best option for you. I hope the pain subsides soon. You seem to already be on track to get the metabolic syndrome under control - I wish you lots of success with that!

As for me - Did my first run today post-Goofy. Went to the track with DH and did 4 miles. Wasn't exactly speedwork, but almost. Am really trying to keep the eating under control too. May venture onto the scales tomorrow...

Read an interesting reprint of an article from RW on weight loss http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-304--12509-0,00.html?cm_mmc=nutrition-_-2010_01_14-_-nutrition-_-DIET%3a Lose 10-Pounds (Really) There are some really obvious tips in there that make a lot of sense.

Jackie

Corrina: I don't think I will ever say the words......I am done losing weight! Good for you that you reached it! I am envious......

Jackie: I am glad that you now see your accomplishment! I am proud of you! WTG with the 'speed' work at the track! It's good to get back into it....I never want a big lay-over1

Debra: Your goals of hitting 5 pound increments is sound. I get to obssessed with numbers. With this nutrition consult I am really trying to focus on the long term. I want to lose about 18 pounds, but I am not going to be in a hurry. I want a sound nutritional plan for the long term......

Cindy:I hope your stomach issues work themselves out. Could it be stress related? You were working so hard training....just wondering.

Maria: I am glad you are back! I missed you! It is hard to get back into early morning workouts after a lay-off. I have been getting up a little earlier in the morning to get 6 miles in instead of 5.......grueling! Sorry to hear about the family drama......I love that the SIL's (that are so 'fit') are the ones to bale on you come race time. You (the REAL athlete) were out there getting it done. They are whimps......they probably never had the intention of running 'cause you would show them up! I am glad you didn't let them get you down.

On a side note.....this is your year. You got yourself into good habits last year. You are consistent with your workouts. You will get the nutrition/dietary part and this will be your year. You will see big gains in speed, and big losses on the scale. I feel this for real. You have all the pieces, and you will put them all together. I am proud of you for all the gains you have already seen, and the losses at the scale that you have already posted!!!! :dance3::dance3:

Connie: I am sorry that you didn't have the race you were looking for....but I do believe that everything happens for a reason. It was a big dissapointment for you, but you didn't fail. It's never a failure when you make a real attempt at something so huge. It wasn't meant to be this year.....but that leaves you with big goals for the future. Great job getting your diet under control. I hope that it helps with your metabolism!

AFM: Things are going pretty well. I did a speed workout on Monday and actually ran 5 miles in 49 minutes! It was one of the training runs on my training plan, and I felt great! I am glad to see I have a little more speed outside. The same pace on the TM seems beyond me!

I sent my food journal to the dietician.....waiting to hear from her with any input into what I should be working on.

Beth

Thought I would go ahead and post this to read. Great information from Runner's World!!!!!

Weight Loss For Runners
THE 10 RULES OF WEIGHT LOSS
Nutritionist Nancy Clark shares 10 tips all runners should know if they want to drop some pounds.
By Nancy Clark

PUBLISHED 03/05/2008
1. To lose 10 pounds of body fat a year, you need to eat 100 calories less per day. Cutting too many calories from your daily intake will sap your energy level and increase your hunger, making you more susceptible to splurging on high-calorie foods.

2. Don't skip breakfast. Eat within two hours of waking.

3. In fact, eat more breakfast than you think you should. Trade in some of your dinner calories for more calories at breakfast.

4. Don't allow yourself to get hungry. Eat at least every four hours, and split a meal in half to make sure you properly fuel up pre- and postrun. For example, eat part of your breakfast before your morning run (a banana) and the rest of your breakfast afterward (a bagel with peanut butter).

5. Eat at least three kinds of food each meal from these four categories: breads, cereals, and grains; fruits and vegetables; low-fat dairy and soy; and lean meats, fish, and nuts. Breads, cereals, and grains should be the foundation of each meal, with protein as an accompaniment.

6. Shoot for a gradual loss of body fat. You're more likely to put the weight back on (and more) if you drop weight too quickly.

7. Liquid calories add up fast and can lead to weight gain. Minimize the amount of sodas, juices, store-bought smoothies, sports drinks, coffee drinks, and alcohol you consume.

8. Eat closer to the earth, enjoying fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Minimize the amount of processed foods you eat; they tend to offer less fiber and are less satiating.

9. If you can't resist fast food, ask for nutritional information before you make your choices (or check in advance via restaurant Web sites). Avoid any menu items with the words "fried," "crispy," and "special sauce," which are guaranteed to be high calorie.

10. Remember that the calories in the energy bars, sports drinks, and gels you consume during a run add up, even though you're running. Consume them only as needed.

Joining in with you guys. I was naughty in 2009 and now have 10 pounds to lose. Hoping to lose this excess weight before the real training for the marathon begins. (I signed up for the 2011 full - my first full!) I know it needs to go for the sake of my knee. Sooo, started back with my food diary on Monday. Just enjoyed a Lean Cuisine for lunch with some pineapple for dessert. I can do this! Right? :lmao:

Welcome Shannon! Glad you stopped by!

Where is everyone now????? Time to get back to work here.....or at least post once and awhile!

Beth

Good morning leanies!

Maria - Congrats on your PR and for finishing under such tough conditions! Sorry you were able to make it to any of the meets. I know how family can get to be a real handful.

Connie - FWIW, I'm glad you listened to your body and went to the medical tent instead of pushing on. The metabolic syndrome sounds serious but it sounds like you've got a good start on it with the inches lost at Disney.

Jackie - Sorry we didn't get to meet :( Thanks for posting the RR article! I was really tempted to have some of my Oreo snack packs but remembered the part about cutting out the 100 calories a day.

lenshanem - I'm planning to sign up for the full in 2011 and it will be my first as well too! :goodvibes

Beth - Any news from your dietician on your journal?

AFM - I went out for my first run post-half. I was still a little sore from Monday's workout but felt good once I got out. Thought I was going at an okay speed, turns out I was only running at 11:30 m/m. Back to the gym tonight and then probably on the TM for a quick 2 miles!

Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Good morning Leanies!

First, thank you all so much for the lovely kind words! It meant a lot to me.

Maria - Your hero? Thanks. Good job on handling the race and family and showing them what a REAL hero looks like!

Len - Welcome back. We all need a little help from time-to-time!

Shelly - Welcome again. Motivation? It comes from within. You gotta want it worse than you don't. Inspiration? Plenty of that here. Maybe it's really the inspiration and comaraderie you want and need. If that's it, Shelly, you have come to the right place!

Vicky - LOL everytime I hear you wonderful runners discuss speed, I flash back to the 70's and the anti-drug slogan, "Speed kills". :confused3 And then I always think, "wish I had some!" You are doing great. Don't push too hard, you have a whole year....uhm, 11 1/2 months!

Jackie - great tips, thanks! I envy you girls who have 15 lbs to lose. I have 15 lbs to lose before I can say I have more than 15 lbs to lose! :rotfl:

Corrina - A big congratulations for achieving your weight loss goals! Keep posting, we all need to know how you keep it where you want it! I think everyone will agree that maintenance is the hardest thing of all!

Beth - Thanks for the information on Runner's World! It's always helpful to review things, especially when we are starting on fresh goals. Notice I didn't say new. For most of us, I think they aren't new! :rotfl2: Have you heard from your dietician? Food journals are so helpful for a dietician. I hope you have even more benefits in seeing her/him! About your speed, See comments above to Vicky! ;)

AFM - I continue to work on my diet. I thought I would tell you the interesting things my doctor (who has the same problems I do) shared with me. It's not about low carb or even no carb. It's about selecting carbs, carefully. Sugar is poison in a person with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. So the carbs to avoid starting with the worst in order are: Sugar, flour, pasta, rice, potatoes. The problem is: I knew this! Why does it sound so different coming from a doctor??

Hi All
I step away for a few days and everyone comes back! Sounds like you all did great over the Marathon Weekend. I am impressed with everyone.

My treadmill is still out of commission. My DH thinks he can fix it, and we ordered a replacement part and hopefully it will come soon and I will be back on to early morning workouts. My Wii has been sent to Nintendo to get it fixed and it should be on its way back now. So life should get better soon.

We have been painting our bedroom - the first improvement we have made to our house since we bought it. So that has taken a lot of my time. But I am back to writing down what I am eating (today) and ready to be good. I haven't weighed in since Friday - so I don't know where I am. I will find out Friday, and I am afraid of the result!
