Working moms - what do you do?

My fancy title is "Portfolio Manager". I am a computer programmer who builds and manages website applications for a human resources consulting firm. Most of my time now is spent dealing with offshore resources - India. I work from home 5 days a week and usually work about 50 hours. I do go into the office once a month but mainly just to chat. My boss sits in another state so it's not like he misses me! :rotfl2: Due to my company consolidating space, I was asked to give up my cube in December - let me tell you how much that upset me! :lmao:

Despite the rate of unemployment, our company is doing tons of business. It seems to be companies that are mostly looking for hourly help. I manage 2 applications - 1 for hourly positions and one for executives. I have a handful of companies on the executive application and TONS of candidates everyday on the hourly application. It seems like hourly positions are plentiful but people have to be willing to do that type of work.

I work from home as a medical transcriptionist. I love it. I tried going back out into the workforce and after working from home I just couldnt do it. I can see me doing this until I retire as long as the work is available. I was lucky in that my sister was not working and watched my DS while I did my schooling, he was 3 at the time. I highly recommend it if you can find the time to get into a local college and do the course work. It may take a bit of time to get yourself to a point where you can make money but it's well worth it.

I'm shocked at what some of you have to go through to be subs! Here you have to be able to pass the background check (fingerprints). And it helps to be sober:rotfl2: . But you would only make $50 a day.

I teach, and love being on my kids' schedules. Currently, I'm working on my masters in counseling, and hope to be doing that within 2 yrs.

I was a real estate agent until last week, lol, and put my license in referral.
I have my teaching degree, so I signed up for the sub list ONLY at my kids' school. I live in a rural area, so they are pretty desperate for subs.
I get called three to four times a week.
I think the trick is to get on with the school district where noone else wants to work!
It is owrking out perfectly for me, but remember, no pay in the summer....

I also work for the government (federal), buzz5985. I will have 29 yrs in this August. I love love love the flexibility of taking leave. I get 5 1/2 weeks annual and 2 1/2 weeks sick, and I can carry over 6 weeks vacation each year.

However, due to BRAC and base closings, I've had to relocate once. I'm now looking for yet another job within the gov't due to BRAC...ugh...keeping my fingers crossed that I get something before the base closes. :worried:

For the past 8 years I have worked for our county's public library system. I LOVE MY JOB. At first it was hard to get used to the hours and being away from the kids (this was my first job). But now that I have proven myself my director lets me make my own hours. Plus since I handle programming for 0 to 18 year olds, I get to bring the kids to work a few times a month. I do not have a MLS (I was grandfathered in the system). I am currently working on my MLS but just because I would like to have it in the event we ever move.
