Working moms - what do you do?

I work at an MR/DD adult day program. All the places around here hire FT & PT people, they are open all year but do have holidays and weekends off. I am FT and work 9-5, our PT people usually work 10-3, but they are flexible.

Aid positions usually require no experience or degree. Higher up positions do require that stuff.

How about a preschool teacher? For 3 years I did that. Not as much pay as a public school teacher, but get you by, while you are waiting to do something else. Might even like it alot! I worked in the infant room... all the love of cuddling babies, and they go home at night. ($8./hr at start, $11/hr when I left, because we moved away)

Best to check with smaller private preschools, such as in churches. Often they match the schedule of the local school district, especially if they tout themselves more of a "preschool" than a "daycare" Corporate daycare centers, like Kids-R-Kids or Kindercare, more likely to run year-round full day, but hey, check them out too...

RN (Clinical Resource/Supervisor for the hospital) on the night shift. I work 2-3 nights week, 12 hr shifts. This allows me to get my kids off to school, pick them up....never miss a field trip, assembly, play and such. I actually am considered part-time (which means I only have to work 2 nights a week) I usually work fulltime hours...but it does give me the option and flexability to NOT work that third night if something is going on.

I wish you luck on the job search.... DS17 has been working at Menards and he makes pretty good hours...and money. The are very flexiable w/his schedule as well.

Have you looked into other School district jobs, such as teacher assisntants, secretaries or food service? These all have great benefits and the hours can be compatable with the kids'.

I am a school bus driver. I started out as an aide on the bus (special-needs preschoolers) and I was interested in becoming a bus driver. The school system paid for my training and I was hired as a full-time busdriver the next year. I work 35 hours a week (full-time is 30 hours, so I have full benefits), same schedule as my kids, and I use the knowledge I gained while obtaining my A.D is Early Childhood Education every day.

I work as a Para Educator for our local school district. I started when DS was in 2nd grade (now he is in 9th). The schedule can't be beat and the holidays are the same as your kids. I work in the office (which I love). The only problem is that with the economy situation, we are facing big lay-offs. Our school district goes by seniority, so last hired would be first laid off. Just keep it in mind..... To work as a sub in our district, you must have either an AA degree or pass a test.

I'm a Pediatric RN working the day shift (12 hour shifts) 3-4 days a week. It's just enough for me to not get bored, but also at the same time on my days off, I get to be a housewife too and run al the errands I need to during the week.

I'm the VP of Service for a Office Equipment company. Can't say that my hours are very flexible but I do like my job. There simply aren't enough women in this industry - there are lots of opportunities.

As a substitute teacher in this area you need the minimum of 60 college credits and a passing score on the Parapro test. (which I am told is similar to Praxis I)

Once you get the credits, you need to pay $135 for a 5 year license. You also need to pay for $80 for fingerprinting and a $7 application fee.

Some districts require additional requirements such as taking a personality test, psych test, physical, etc.

After all that is done, you may never even get called.

I work as the Lead Instructor and Manager of School Age Services for a science museum. My hours are supposed to be 9-5, but I work 8-4 so that my schedule aligns better with ds' school. My job is flexible enough that I can take time off when I need it, or run and grab ds if there is a half-day or what not.

You might want to check out your local museums if you have an education background. I hire people to work as Per Diems, and you could definitely align that job with your children's school schedules.

I work for an insurance agent. 8-2 everyday. I take and pick my kids up everyday. In the summer when the kids go to daycare they let me work full days if I want. The benefits are not that great because I'm part time but I can't beat the flexability. I take off most school holidays (Hubby takes off between Christmas and New Years) It really works for us.

I'm a dental hygienist. I work 2 days, about 12 hrs/wk.

Work F/T (normally 32 hrs a week) as a bartender. I work nights so I am able to get the DD's to and from school. DH is home in the evening and if he is traveling the DD's are old enough now(15,13) to stay at home alone until I get home (usually around midnight). It is nice to be home during the day. I can get alot done. It is also nice because if one of them is sick nobody has to take a day off to make sure that they are okay. I also have weekends off because I have been with the same company for 20+ years. I also make really good money and I like what I do.:thumbsup2

I am a substitute teacher. This is my sixth year working in this field. I really love it. Sometimes I work more than I want, but it is very rewarding work.

I am a school counselor, but I am not currently working. My youngest will be K next year and I am thinking of looking, but with budget cuts I am not holding my breath.

I work from home and do some on property photography and staging for special clients (real estate agents). As an independent contractor, I set my own schedule and have no benefits. That being said, I need to be available when something (BUSINESS!!) happens. I review contracts, maintain database and prospecting plans, set up web based tickler systems for contract deadlines, fax and/or mail documents for signing, maintain web based electronic files, as well as marketing listings (upload to marketing websites). I'm as busy as I want to be since many agents have had to let their hourly/salaried assistants go.:confused3 My dream job would be to work in the DVC contracts department!

I teach students who are blind or visually impaired. I LOVE my job! It is by far the best job that I have ever had. I taught in the classroom for 8 years. I travel to different schools and see students, usually one on one.
I was able to work part-time until both kids were in school. I love it!:thumbsup2

Just left my job last April (bad timing huh?) but I was a patient coordinator at a pediatricians office. Basically I was a nursing assistant, but I did get to boss all the doctors which was fun.:) I worked pretty flexible hours, usually 10am-3:30pm

Before that I worked from home for 10 years as a nursing coordinator for a nursing agaency. I was on 5pm-8am. Luckily the middle of the night calls only happen about once a week.

As I am filling out applications and doing a resume I was wondering what type of jobs y'all have.

My first app is to get into the school system to sub. I have poor timing because they school board just passed a motion that subs must complete a 30hr course at the local community college. The class was full and I have to wait until spring before taking it.
In the mean time I have been searching for jobs on line. I have found some jobs that are service oriented, like stocking items for Kelloggs, magaizines, etc.

Right now I need to work part time during school hours. Having the five kids at three different schools doesn't allow me to work outside of school hours.

So, if you can be so kind to share the job or field you are working in....

Thanks in advance.

I work with the school system & I'm an executive secretary to our county's IT Director.

I suggest in your free time while you are waiting for the sub class this spring, pick one or two of the main schools you want to sub at and volunteer! You will stand a better chance of getting called & called more often if the secretary/office personnel know you!!
