Work..

Yeah, I love my day shifts because it means I don't have to close. I hate hate hate closing the store, especially when there are 15 people in the store at 9:30 and they're not listening to the announcements of 'Shoe Carnival is now closed! Please take your purchases to the register.' Ugh. :headache:

I hate day shifts because that's usually when my GM works, and he just annoys the hell out of me.

Closing shifts are good though because I get to sleep in, and the GM is usually gone by the time I get there.

So there are pros and cons to both, but I'm okay with my day shifts. I work 9 hours and day but get the weekends off, so it's good.

Totally agreeing on the points of closing. I dislike my manager a lot, I don't mean to be that way but she just makes me feel stupid, so she's usually gone by the time I'm there, or about to.
The other day when I was cleaning and she was going to leave soon she was like 'Did anybody show you how to clean?' really rudely. I mean it was her who showed me how to clean, and I had already done about 4 night shifts.
I know what I'm doing.
And I love being able to sleep in, and enjoy my day and then go in for a few hours.
It's not bad. But the 9-5 shift just kills my day. By the time I get home, I'm too tired to do anything.

I also hate it once I've put the money they gave me through the machine and they're like 'OH! I've got a penny!'. Look, I don't need your penny, the machine tells me how much to give you back and I'm too dimwitted to add that penny on.
There's actually a long list of things that I dislike, but I won't. I love people .

I KNOW WHAT YOU Mean! I was on reggie today and there were more times oh wait i have exact change after i put it in the reg. but err.. i think that is why my register was messed up today. :(

Currently, I have a volunteer job at the library.

9-11:30, Friday mornings.

It's only til the end of August :(

Next year, I should have a real job, but with my birthday in the smack middle of summer, it's hard for me--either too young or too old!

Volunteer work will get you a lot of experience and it will help you once you start applying for real jobs. summer birthdays suck :(

I'm a barista at a local coffee shop. It's an okay job. I get free food and drinks whenever I want, which is nice. :thumbsup2
I get $7 an hour, plus any tips. I only work twice a week, but for 8 hour shifts. Saturday 6 am - 2 pm is KILLER! gak. that shift drains my energy. I get home and I'm dead, haha.
We have some weird customers, though. I was actually proposed to yesterday.

I worked the 5 am to 2 pm today. but did not get off until like 3:15 or something. it drains me. i am about ready to crash lol

I volunteered for about 3 years and I believe that's what got me the job I'm at now. My managers are really really picky when it comes to hiring, because they want people to stay long term. I think they were impressed with my volunteer work. So yeah Meg, that will really benefit you in the long term.

I do like that the atmosphere at work is really relaxed and fun. I get to beat up 2 of the bosses all day. ;) Well one always comes behind me and scares the crap out of me, so I just use that as an excuse to poke him very hardly all day long.

The other one is hilarious, the things he comes up with! Lol.

I spend a lot of the day at work with a smile on my face, unless the GM is there. And then I'm mostly just yelling at him a lot...in my head. He's moving to another store in September, WOOOOOHOOOOOOO. I can. not. freaking. wait.

Yeah, It takes me a while to count my drawer and do all the paperwork at the end of the day so I rarely ever get off at the time I'm scheduled for.

I used to be a senior sales associate at Windsor Fashions (clothing/dress store). I worked there for 2 years. It was ok i guess, I loved the girls that I worked with but the customers were another story. Windsor sells homecoming/prom dresses so you can imagine how ridiculous it got at those times!! :scared:

I now work for a school system doing SAC (school age childcare). It is in the morning before the kids start school and after they get out of school (only 5 hours a day). Its really fun because basically I get paid to play with the kids lol. The hours suck and the pay is not great but I love working with kids so its a good job for me!!

I work at an amusement park called Kings Island, which used to be owned by Paramount but now is owned by Cedar Fair (same owners of Cedar Point, Knotts Berry Farm). I cannot believe the amount of STUPID people that come in there. I seriously just don't understand how some of these people function in their lives...it's pathetic. I'm not paid enough for what I put up with (them yelling at me, smoking in my face, etc) and it's only $7/hr which is minimum wage here in Ohio. It's just a April-September job though...so I'm not sure what I am going to do when it ends. I guess I'll apply Kroger or something.

I've ordered four dresses from Windsor! They have a lot of nice dresses!

Guess What

I got a job offer 3 days ago

I get room and board/meals
summer camp counceler 8 weeks

1000-1500 $$

they wanted me as a CIT this week
but next year is when I'm old enough to get paid

I work at Panera Bread Company and I make salads and sandwiches and pour soup into breadbowls or bowls. I actually do like my job a little bit. The food there is really good and we get to have it at a % off.

I don't have a job. I think you have to be 16 to work here, and even then not that many people will hire you.
Not even that, the closest place you can walk to for work is the gas station at the outside of my community.
The closest places we have are Kmart, Walmart, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Perkins, and maybe some mom and pop cafes/pizza places. But I've never seen a 'Help Wanted' sign in any of those places, ever!

Or if you want to work at the mall/strip mall/or a local ski and waterpark, you can take the bus. Which only comes around every 1 1/2 hoursa.

I volunteer at an animal shelter with about 8 of my other friends. :D
It's loads of fun. And the animals are so awesome.

I'm doing that next year =)
Without my friends likely.
I want to get some volunteering done, I love animals, so it's perfect.
For some reason the SPCA has a rule that you have to be 16 and have a parents permission to volunteer there...

:)

Thanks for your help, guys!

I actually want to work at a bookshop when I'm old enough. Like Border's or Barnes and Noble!

I'd be like Belle, only shorter, lacking the Beast, no talking objects, and less pretty.

lol

Yea they do have nice dresses and clothes. I used to get 40% discount there so it was AWESOME if I needed to buy a dress for anything!! I really do miss that discount lol

I worked a solo shift last week D:

From 9-9:30, I had one costumer (a regular). Her name disappeared from the database, and it took the librarian and I half an hour to replace it/search. Thankfully, the mother was very understanding!

9:30-10 was "Baby Story Time", so it was quite quiet.

10-11, I had a few costumers, maybe 3. They were regulars as well.

11-11:30 was when it went crazy. I had 6 kids at once! D: D: D: D: D: D:

I got through that one, thankfully, and managed to keep the database running smoothly!

Boo yah.

Then I got off right at 11:30, went downstairs, and killed time until my mom picked me up :)

That shift was crazzzzy, but I got through it :D
