WOO HOO Snow day tomorrow!

just sent DS9 up for his shower & we go the word...so that's it, snow days are USED up...
gonna try to be a bit more productive tomorrow...surfed a bit much today:surfweb: (gotta crick in my neck!)

I all the surrounding counties schools are close but us. I betting they call it at the last minute. I wish they just call it because it will not be nobody at school tomorrow. Let alone work. We expecting at inch they may as well shut down the city. Everyone is call out work. LOL

People freak out around here when they hear 3"-6" of snow. I went to the grocery store this afternoon to pick up a few things and this is what the bread aisle looked like ---

I took a picture with my cell phone to send to my sister. We laugh because whenever there is a report of snow there is always a run on milk, bread and eggs. What? Do people stay home and make French Toast? HA!

love it :rotfl:

We're closed here in KS too...a couple of inches and we close the day before it even really lands on the ground.

I will say, as a transplanted Upstate NYer I didn't get it at first, but now I realize they don't have enough plows here to handle more than a couple inches of snow. People off the road like you wouldn't believe!:drive:

We are in Alabama and they have said that we may get 1 to 2 inches and our school will be closing tomorrow at 1:00pm and delayed until 10:00am on Friday, depending on what we get. My kids are already begging me not to send them in the morning. It is sooooo cold here.

DH went by the store tonight and they are out of bread & milk. :rotfl2: Why is that always the first thing to go? It's funny, when they were talking about snow, I thought I need bread & milk. :lmao:

I hope you all stay warm & safe.

well....since you asked....I have this new recipe for Blueberry French Toast Bake and you make it and leave it in the fridge all night -- then bake it in the morning. And as soon as I saw that school was cancelled for tomorrow, YES, I MADE FRENCH TOAST! ha ha. It's one morning I know we will all be together for breakfast and the recipe looked yummy! (now watch it not be all that great....i have high hopes!)

We are in the "Snow Belt" in Ohio. School will get canceled for freezing temps up here more likely than for snow. Snow removal is serious business up here - much to many students' chagrin. Our first calamity day this year was for a busted water pipe.
Personally I'm "done" with snow after Christmas. Too bad there is still plenty of snowy possibilities in January, February, March, and April.

DISdreamin' we are getting the drizzle tonight, too. Walking on crunchy snow is so much more fun than driving on it!

Stay warm everyone!

Sigh. A depressing morning at my house -- kids have school. We only got about 1-2" overnight, and I guess during the day they can keep up well enough with clearing the road. It would have been better not to get hopes up!!!

We got 2-3 overnight, and are getting another 3 now. Schools not closed or delayed. That's really surprising for Indiana!

We are on our 2nd snow day today in Kansas. Our school district is notorious for not closing in bad weather, but the forecast was calling for blizzard conditions starting yesterday. Well, it's nice and sunny, winds are not too bad. But man is it cold out there!

We moved here from California almost 2 years ago. The school is always good about giving me snow advice. They told me to go to the store ahead of the storm. I didn't know what the heck was the point, so I bought food like I was getting ready for a superbowl party. My cart was loaded up with chips, dip, cookies, soda, hot dogs, etc. But when I got to the checkout line, I noticed everyone was mostly buying milk and bread. :confused3

We had a few inches when we woke up this morning and it hasn't stopped yet. By the end of today, we're told to expect around 12" or so. School was not canceled but I know that a lot of the buses were running late. My DD attends a special needs school about 15 miles from our house. It usually takes them about an hour to get there. Her bus was 15 minutes late this morning and she's the first pick-up. I have no idea what time she actually got to school.

We're in a western suburb of Chicago were school is rarely canceled.

Our district cancelled today for the 2nd day in a row. Today was cancelled because of the dangerous wind chills. They don't want kids standing at the bus stops in that kind of cold.

Tomorrow is supposed to be even colder so it will be interesting to see what the districts do. There are 3 large districts in our area and it's usually a joint decision amongst them.

We are in school today and have been all week. The temps have run to -20 and the windchill this morning was -44. Our school policy is -45 straight temp or windchill and we start 2 hours late. Snow is another story. Our transportation director decides that one. Who knows? We haven't had any measureable snow since Dec. 24th. The winds are going to pick up today so it should be lovely by 4:00 when we go home. My hubby does Heating/AC. He is busy today!! I finally put the liner in my Columbia jacket today. When the wind starts it really gets cold!!

I laughed out loud at your post!

(Tongue firmly in cheek...) It is customary - generally in areas that don't get much snow - to go to the grocery store and buy eggs, milk and bread when a snow storm is predicted. :rotfl: Why? As one previous poster suggested, it must be that French toast is a required meal in a snow storm or something. I truly have no idea why this strange phenomenon happens, but it truly does! Around here, unless they're predicting 2-3 feet, it's all business as usual thankfully. ;)

Edited to add: The best snafu I'vr ever seen with a snowstorm was quite a few years back when I went to bed and they were calling for ~6-10 inches of snow and woke to about three feet which ended up at something like 40 or 41 inches when it was all over if memory serves. Thankfully I *had* bought staples as our street was impassable for a while - and it was an emergency snow route! The reason - public transportation got a bus stuck sideways in the street and it took a loooong time to get it all cleared!

It's ok. I laughed at myself, then called dh at work to tell him because I thought it was so funny. My thinking is, if we are going to be stuck in the house for a couple of days, why not go for good ole' comfort foods?:lmao:

I just got back from Costco and I have to say that the roads are preety cruddy here, plus the wind is bad. Dang, it's cold!
coinkc, we are in the kc area too!

Off tomorrow too!!! WOO HOO!!!! :woohoo:
(can you tell I am a teacher???:))

Hi Niksmom! If you are in the SM or Olathe school is closed tomorrow! Not sure about BV but would guess they are too.

My kids are in the BV school district. I've been told we tend to close when SM closes, but I just called their school closure line and they haven't updated it. My kids would love another snow day though!

Hi fellow Kansans. We live in Shawnee, but are in the Desoto district. I am so sick of school being closed. Sorry, but my son is driving me crazy!!!

I loved the going to the store story too! I grew up in the mountains in Colorado. No one would even think of "stocking up" when a big storm was predicted. But, people also knew how to drive on snow there and they don't here. I'm feeling right at home in all of this snow, I just wish my child was at school. We leave for Disneyworld in 12 days and he'll be out of school for 8 days there, so he needs to be in school now. So, it's purely selfish on my part. ;)

We had NO snow when they canceled school here this morning but we are now at almost an inch. I forgot how lousy people here drive on the snow until I watched some almost slide through a stop sign due to waiting until too late to even try to stop. Another one turned the corner and started sliding almost taking out another vehicle. Everywhere we went today was dead so that was nice.

Unfortunately I expect them to cancel tomorrow since the community college is closed tomorrow. It makes no sense to me.

UPDATED: They have closed school here for tomorrow so we are now into Summer break for makeup days. We only had one snow day in our schedule. This stinks but my kids may not make the days up as I have plans for Disney.

I'm jealous. Wish we could go to WDW right now.
By the way, we are all enjoying my superbowl party food. I may make a 7 layer dip later on...:thumbsup2

Oh, in case anyone else is in the Blue Valley district, school was just cancelled for tomorrow too.

Yes, we're closed tomorrow too. My son is soooo happy. We were only back 1 day and now 3 snow days.

7 layer dip sounds pretty good. We're stuck with sloppy joes, but at least it's warm!
