I live in Upstate NY and I've been wondering since I started running in April what I was going to do come winter. We get just a *little* bit of snow here, and I live in the boonies where there are no streetlights, no sidewalks, and no place to hide if the snowplow is coming!:scared1:

Anyway, my friend's boss was looking to get rid of her treadmill, which she bought with the best of intentions but never used other than to hang clothes on it. I went and checked it out today, gave it a bit of a trial jog, and $225 later, it's all mine.

It's a nice model. Not top of the line, but not a basic no-frills one either. I can adjust the incline, which was a requirement for me, and it folds up, which is also a nice feature.

Now - since my lunch has digested a little - I'm gonna get out there and try to jog on it without falling off the back! :rotfl2:

Congrats on your good deal! I live in western PA and we get lake effect snow off Lake Erie all winter. It's so blah! I love running on treadmills, but I own an ellipical because it is quieter if DH or DS's are sleeping. Good luck and have fun!

We're on the tail end of Lake Ontario's lake effect dumping ground PLUS from the east, we're on the edge of where the N'oreasters come sweeping through. Sometimes we get lucky and both sides miss us - sometimes we get pounded with snow.

So, yeah, having a treadmill was a necessity for me. I never ever thought I would be someone who enjoyed jogging, but I really do love it. I have the treadmill in our mudroom, so no one in the house really hears it. I have an elliptical, too, but it always bores me so much I hate to use it.

awesome! i got my treadmill secondhand and it was a great purchase too, i love a bargain!

loislane-where abouts are you? I am just north of Albany, near Saratoga!

Nice to meet fellow upstaters!

GReat deal! Don't worry about it being basic. I bought a VERY basic TM from Sears MANY years ago (maybe 2000 or 2001). I wil admit, over the years it has seen varying amounts of use (I'm sure there have been periods where it hasn't been touched for MONTHS at a time), but here it is, 2011, and I have been using it very regularly since early 2008.... running, walking, inclines, etc, and it is still going strong! It was sold to me as just a "walking" TM, but I don't have any trouble running on it.

Just be sure you put it somewhere you will USE it! I had ours put in our bedroom... sure, it is a PITA sometimes and in the way sometimes.... but I will USE it there.... I can put on the tv, be with the kids, whatever. If it were in the basement it would probably be covered with junk and dust by now. I KNOW I wouldn't trek down to the basement to use it.

ENJOY! .........................P

Vern - I'm near Utica. Always nice to see fellow NYers around! :)

As for the treadmill it is in our mudroom - attached to the house and lightly heated in the winter, so I'll be out of the elements but hopefully not too warm. Nice shelf in front of it to hold a fan. Plenty of natural light. Out of the way of traffic, but easily accessible. It's all good. :)

I did a great workout on it today that torched 345 calories in 45 minutes - LOVED IT, although parts of it almost killed me. I had never run at 7 mph before and that was FAST for me! I really see the treadmill as a great tool for not only helping me get my cardio in, but also to work on improving my 5K times for my races next year. :)

I run my 3rd 5K ever on the 25th, but would like to run the same 3 races again next year and better my times in them all. :thumbsup2
