Wonder Returns to Galveston - November 6, 2015

My daughter will be very excited as well! Since we have never been on a cruise we are really not sure what to expect. She was worried about the teen room. My 9 year old can make friends with anyone. So she is just excited. I am so ready to be on the ship already!!! 2 months and 4 days!

We were more towards the back of the ship when we saw the dolphins. I would say midship to the back as they were playing in the waves the ship made. We were more excited about seeing the dolphins than watching the sail away party!

Tell her not to worry, she will have a great time! Both of my kids have made really good and lasting friends in the clubs. My son who just turned 20 met his girlfriend on our Hawaii cruise a few years back when he was 16, and we have visited and sailed with their family a number of times since then. My daughter met a good friend on our last Galveston cruise that she talks to all the time and they play Minecraft online together. We will be seeing them while we're out there. We were hoping they could join us on the cruise, but they weren't able to.

Thanks, I'm so glad I asked, I'm not sure I would have thought to look back at the waves. :thumbsup2

Well, I said we were not a popular cruise and I was right. They put our cruise on sale with IGT and OGT rates so maybe we will pick up some more cruisers now!:worship:

With as many veranda categories that are left, I kind of expected VGT also. The cruise after ours also has lots of categories left, I wonder if they will be getting the special rates soon also. Now if I could just figure out a way to talk my friends into using these and cruising with us. :scratchin

Most everybody I know looks at me like I am crazy when I say I am going on a Disney cruiseo_O I've been telling everybody they just don't get the appeal of a cruise, let alone a Disney one. The best cruise I have ever done was Disney which is why I keep coming back.:-)

Just a reminder to everyone - buy your swimsuits, sun gear and other summer stuff now before they switch out to fall/winter gear. The added benefit to purchasing now is it should be on clearance.

Just a quick alert for everyone - I just received information from Disney that the time for Pirate night is changing on
the Wonder starting 11/6 going through the 12/24 sailing. The party will take place at
7:45 Pm between main and second dining.

So what does that mean? I'm a noob, so please help?? Also what night is pirate night?

Pirate night is exactly like it sounds, people can dress up like pirates - think Pirates of the Caribbean. It is night 4, the day we are in Jamaica and there is fireworks! Not sure if they will do the Pirate buffet now though:confused3 DCL use to have the party after late dining, but maybe they are changing it as it gets dark earlier.

I don't know what day. I tried checking My Cruise Activities online on my ressie but they still haven't posted it there. What is dumb is the cruise after this one, they have it posted, although it still say's 9:45 - 10:30. My concerns are: will this be enough time, or will this cause the late diners to be leaving the party early and what about the fireworks, will 8:15 be dark enough? :confused3

Maybe they are saving money, shorten the party. I just think it is going to be rushed and people may end up skipping late dining. Who knows what else they will change before the cruise!:sad2:

Ok, so after searching/asking around, it sounds like the party is between dinners like I posted above and the fireworks are after late dinner. Doesn't make sense to me to split it, but I don't run the company, I just wish I did!

That is weird to split up the party. It doesn't fit their story either of Mickey coming down the zipline, saving the day and after celebrating is the fireworks.

Although I might actually try the buffet (if they still have it), I've always been too full before, coming right from dinner.

So hopefully everyone has read through the cruise thread and knows that there is a motorcycle event taking place Nov. 5th-8th. www.lonestarrally.com is the website in case anyone wants to see what will be going on. This is the reason we were saying pages(months) ago to get a hotel room asap if you were coming in the night before. Based on the event map, driving around Galveston may also be a challenge due to the amount of traffic and street closures. Give yourself extra time to get to the port and to find parking, and pre book your parking if possible. Maybe a local has more info to give on the event and how much traffic to expect?

We knew about the rally because of the challenge of booking the hotel we wanted, but I hadn't even considered driving and road issues. We're meeting up with some friends, so I need to plan around this as well as the ride from the hotel to the cruise ship on the 6th. Thanks so much for posting this! I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your posts of information and how helpful it is. Can you always cruise with us? :D

Can you always cruise with us? :D
:rotfl:You let me know what cruise, and I will be there! I don't look at my info as being over prepared, it is just my OCVPD(obsessive compulsive vacation planning disorder) and I share anything I think of. You know, we may see each other at the hotel because I think we are both staying at the Galvez. Hopefully their transportation to the ship is good so we don't have to call a taxi!

:thumbsup2We used a taxi last time, but I'm also hoping we can use their transportation this time and that it's good.

Hello....I'm new to DIS, but not to DCL! It's been so much fun reading along that I had to join. So this will be our 2nd trip on DCL. Our first was in 2012- Mexican Riviera, out of San Pedro, Ca. This time we're doing a "land and sea" (so to speak) trip. We live in Ca and will be driving to Texas, to add more memories for our kids. So excited! I'm an over planner as many of you and start my research very early in advance, so needless to say..."Let's Do This!!!"
Now, the Fish Extender is new to me. And to be honest had a different impression. I had no idea how pre-planned and organized this was...cool! Is this something that is super fun and shouldn't miss out on? We're definitely decorating our stateroom door. I made magnets myself and extra to share with those that didn't bring magnets of their own. What should I keep in mind? And roughly how many gifts do people prepare for? Thank you in advance. :)

First off:welcome:and glad you joined us! It is awesome you are doing a road trip to make memories. That and it is probably cheaper than flying!
I think the FE is fun and shouldn't be missed, but everyone has different feelings on giving/receiving gifts. It is especially fun for the kids when they go back to the room and have gifts waiting - kind of like Christmas. If you decide to join the group, the amount of gifts you deliver is up to you. You can do 1 gift for the entire stateroom or 1 gift pp in the room or a cabin gift for the adults and individual gifts for any kids in the room - there is no rule on how many, it is a personal choice by you. Our FE group is at 8 rooms right now and if you want to see how many that is, just go back a page to check.
Now, if you would like to join us, we are keeping most of the info private and I will not post it here, such as real names and cabin numbers. Your posts need to be at 10 so I can pm you for any info. Feel free to post here or http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/ to get your number up to 10. The only info I need is who is in the room and ages of kids. Any allergies and fave characters is up to you if you want it added, this is not required. I will also need to know how you would like to receive the FE list, either by pm or email. Any other questions, feel free to ask as this thread is checked daily.
