Wonder in Alaska!!! May 27, 2013

My husband and I decided we want to fish for Salmon in Ketchikan. We can book a charter for just us and it is $150pp. There are other companys that offer $130pp if there are three or more, up to 6 total. So just like
Scooby3x1y, I am putting it out there if anyone wants to join us. I also found a company that offers 6 passangers for $750. I have found that a lot of companies are filling up and the trip with Disney is $200pp.

Just a heads up, I just got off the phone with DCL and when I asked about our Pirates night I was informed that is listed as a PIXAR PARTY night. It is still Friday the fifth night, but not called a Pirate night:rolleyes1 Of course I already knew that fireworks are not allowed in Alaska, but this was news to me! Aloha, Karen

I'm going to be a little bummed if there is no Pirate Party, as I had my costume ready to roll as well. Oh well, at least there is still a party.

There are two Disney movies that are going to be released in theaters before our cruise departure. I'm sure these will be showing on our cruise.

March 8, 2013: Oz the Great and Powerful
May 3, 2013: Iron Man 3

If they are showing Iron Man 3 on the boat, that would be absolutely amazing! Although I will probably have seen it twice by the time we sail. :thumbsup2

Just a note to remind folks that if you book the fishing trip with Disney and anything goes wrong the ship will wait for you. If you book on your own and anything goes wrong it is up to you to catch up to the ship, "just sayin" Ron

I'm liking this, something different for a change.

Thanks for letting us know - saves me trying to find us three pirate costumes! Now I'm wondering if we'd be out of place if we dress up in Pixar costumes. To me, the change does make sense since they've been doing the Pixar coastal cruises, unless they decided to do a Deadliest Catch/Lumberjack themed night instead. ;)

Yay! I forgot to look and see what movies are coming out. Thanks for that. Guess I need to save some room in the suitcase for some movie candy :thumbsup2

On past cruises, we have held a "Disboards Meet Up" before the muster drill. The best place for this would be the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3, Midship. This is a large enough area for everyone to gather and meet up.

This meet up is for everyone on this thread! Not just for people who participating in the Fish Extender. It will be nice to meet other that we have been talking to for months leading up to our cruise. Then, as the week progresses, when you see them around the ship, you can be like "Hey, Bob!"

Here are the details:

What: Disboard Meet Up
Where: Promenade Lounge, Deck 3, Midship
When: Before Muster Drill, Time: TBD
Why: To put faces with names!

I hope you all are able to come and fellowship. :thumbsup2

I thought there was already discussion of a meet on day 2?

It is 90 days until our cruise and we just went on line and got all 3 port adventures that we wanted and Palo brunch on Tracy Arm day!! Yaa!!! See you on the Wonder, soon!!! ALOHA, Karen and Ron:cheer2:

So... On my last cruise, from the cruise terminal, I took a picture of us and sent it out on the FB page saying come say hi if you see us, and a couple people did. We were kind of in a little side area of the terminal, where there were about 50 seats.

Close to the time of boarding, when the terminal was very busy, someone came over because they saw our picture, and I chatted with them, and then pointed out different people from the group who I had seen. Suddenly, just about everyone in the 50 seats around us started chiming in, and they were just about all people from the DISboards... It was so funny. We'd all been sitting around for a good hour or so not realizing that we all "knew" each other.

I like the day 1 meet idea. I wasn't aware we were planning anything on day 2.

I was not aware of the day 2 option either and would much prefer day 1, too. On our last cruise we did it on day two and a bunch of people could not make it as it was clashing with other stuff. At least before the safety drill we know that there is not anything else.

I am planning to contact DCL this week about Champagne Girls. As I want to maximise our chances that they agree to do this, I thought I post another reminder.

Here is a photo from one of the previous Champagne Girls events:

Champagne Girls was originally started on one of the Panama Canal Cruises and has since branched out and was hosted on a number of special cruises. There is various ways this can be approached, but my favourite version was where we got DCL to organize a champagne tasting and everybody participating just had the charge applied to their stateroom account. In 2011, we paid $15 for this. I have heard that recently people have paid $20, but I will share the details with you as soon as I have heard back from DCL.Then everybody just turned up wearing something pink and a tiara.

If you have not signed up already and would like to do so, you can join, but filling out this form:

Sounds like the general consensus, so far at least, is that meeting the first day would be best. If no one objects, I suggest that we plan the meet for the first day.

Hi! if you are thinking about "maybe" doing this meet please sign up! We need a minimum number of ladies to have DCL let us have a venue and a sommelier! You can always cancel later... And it is so much fun!!! Aloha, Karen :thumbsup2

No problem. We weren't certain what we wanted to do. I have been researching independant tours, but it is just my husband and I, so most are a little more expensive. I look forward to your info:)

Thanks for the info. We did schedule a private charter too, with the same prices. NW Mom may be interested in joining your boat. CoastieandMatie (Karen's dh Ron) is joining us.

Our captain said that we could pay that price no matter how many we had on board as long as it was 6 people or less. So, if we wanted less, it was still the same price. Ask your tour operator though about fishing license's and salmon stamps. Our captain told us they were extra.:goodvibes

Day 1 group meet sounds good to me!!

(Day 2 is my sons bday so we let him in charge of alot of the activities. then he normally ditches us. :rotfl2:)

I will have a list for the FEs out by this weekend (hopefully) dh is leaving for China on Sat. and he is my computer expert!

Scooby3x1y, so do you have 6 on your boat? Did you happen to find out the name of your company? So far I haven't found anyone that will do two people for $130/pp, only three or more for that price.

So is there a day for this, or you have to wait for Disney. I don't mind signing up, but it would be a 50/50 right now if myself and MIL would attend. That would be ok? I wouldn't want to cancel and mess anything up.

Since we're talking about meets and such, is anyone else planning on wearing their DisBoards name on their lanyard? The last Disney cruise we did (repositioning from LA to Vancouver in 2011), someone made lanyards for everyone and a little card went in it with their DisBoards name.

Since there's no plans for lanyards at this point, I could see if DH would design a card that people could print out and put in the cardholder portion if there's interest in that. Might also be fun to put where we're from as well (that of course would be optional since I know some might have issues with the privacy of that :thumbsup2).

I would gladly wear a card that says my disname. :) or a cruise lanyard..

there is a FE logo in the works too.
