Wonderful, Wonderful Trip! This cruise was everything that I hoped it would be and some!
This trip was planned as a girls week away! My partners in crime were my sister and good friend from High School. She and I both have wonderful understanding husbands and 3 children a piece, so you know that they had to be great if they let us go w/o them on a Disney Cruise!
I am just going to include some things that I thought might be useful information. I did a lot of research on this cruise and there were just a few things that I couldn't get answers for or wasn't expecting once we got onboard.
We did get a room upgrade-we booked early through expedia and also had a gift of a on board credit waiting for us from a family memeber...don't know if this helped or not. We were upgraded to what was supposed to be a "noisy" room on the second deck. It wasn't noisy at all, I really don't see how any of the rooms could of been too bad to tell you the truth. Our upgraded room had a really cool porthole!
Traveling during a hurricane. I really couldn't find any information on this searching the chat rooms and message boards. Hurricane Isabel was fastly approaching so we were a little concerned being from the coast of NC. NC got hit, but Capt' Henry kept us very safe! We did change the schedule by going to CC first, which I was very thankful for, didn't want to miss that. The first night at sea was rough 3-5 foot swells. Many people got sick. The Disney folks didn't want to admit that the boats rocking was unusual, but we did have some tell us that they had never been on the boat with as rough seas as we went through. But the first night wasn't anything compared to the last night! The swells were so large that you could see them coming over the porthole in our room. The captain came over the loud speaker earlier in the day though to let us know that this was going to be happening as we came closer to FL. He even pin pointed a time! So we were well prepared. Take motion sickness meds...your not a wimp if you need them. We actually thought that it was fun! You got the drunk feeling without having to pay for the drinks!
Breakfast tipping...still not sure if we did this right. But you can eat a "menu" type of breakfast at Tritons in the mornings. They wait on you hand and foot-and not your regular servers. You get no bill, so nothing to charge to your room for tips. I hope that it all just works out in the end...we didn't leave cash on the table and no one else did either. The best breakfast is at Beach Blanket, Tritons was ok, but a better selection at BB.
I think that the worst part of the trip, and it wasn't bad at all was our dinningroom servers and the feeling that you had to buy a drink at all the nightclubs where all the special events were happening. Our servers really STUNK! There really isn't another way to describe it. I have had better service at a Golden Corral Buffet! Didn't get refills on drinks, didn't explain the menus, and certainly showed favortism to our tablemates that I might add were very young and beautiful. Our tablemates were very cool and interesting. We even did events outside of dinning together (won the Disney trivia contest together I might add). Heck, I think that the extra attention that they were getting was almost embarassing to them.
Palo was GREAT!!!! You need to experience this, food, and service here were great. Please do dress up, you will be glad that you did. There were a couple of folks in "dressy" jeans and they really looked out of place and down right sloppy compared to everyone else.
The Golden Mickeys!!!!! The best show I have ever seen! It is set up just like the Emmys, you even walk the red carpet...and there is a surprise involved, I won't spoil that! This is a very new show and just started about a month ago. You will be blown away.
Worried a lot about customs...Easy as Pie.
I have many great things to share, but just wanted to include a few things that I thought were important. This was our first cruise ever...I am already planning my second this time with my husband and children.
