I always buy them at Wal-Mart and the men's...usually more of a selection and least expensive than the women's.

I agree with this. I would try them on and do some walking and squatting in them...something that flexes your toes. Steel toes can be stiff and uncomfortable to wear long term. Make sure they flex well when you try them on.

Highly advise not going cheap DH has worn steel toe work shoes for years. A few years back when we were flat broke the steel started showing thru the leather. He spray painted them black but eventually mgt noticed and he was told not to come back without new shoes. We bought cheap and he was miserable. A few months later we replaced them with expensive ones. He felt so much better!
