Women with tatoos.

I have two and I don't regret them at all. I got Kokopelli when I was 27 and he's on the right side of my back right above where my bathing suit would end. I got my 2nd one this past Sept. It's Tinkerbell sprinkling pixie dust on a marigold which is the Oct. birth month flower for my DD. She's on the inside of my left leg right above my ankle. They are both very cute. Tink hurt a lot more than Kokopelli so I decided that's my last tattoo. All of my friends have a least one and most people I know that are my age (31) also have at least one. Nothing to be ashamed of. Just fun to have. IMO

"Mommy, what's that blue wrinkly think on Grandma's shoulder?"

.

"Well honey that could be grandmom's liver spots, sun damage, varicous veins or a tattoo" I mean who really cares what grandma has on her body as long as she is the same loving grandma she is? For the record, my DH would agree with you about fake ****s. Does nothing for him!

I know a few women with small tattoos along their beltline (3-4 hinches in from their hip bone) & all I can say is sexy! :smooth:

it does not feel the same as "getting a needle" it is more like accupucture.....I find it "relaxing"

I think it's more like hypnotic. I also fell asleep during a 2 1/2 hour session.
I have a very large tattoo on my upper arm. I got it after 9/11. It's an American Eagle wrapped in a flag. Under it is a music staff with the notes to a song that's important to me. It's a personal expression of patriotism and freedom. I don't give a rat's you-know-what if anyone else likes it or not. It's just for me. I also have a band of roses around my ankle, again another representation of something important to me.

lol, sorry to tell you that those are the ones that get distorted when a women gets pregnant. Not to metion stretch marks through them in some cases...ick

Then I have to image what the ones on the belly or back will look like in 30-40 years and how low they will go. I did see a belly one on a preg. lady one time and it was not pretty at all, nor was it after she had her baby. But she knew it could happen when she got hers and wanted to anyway. It didn't seem to bother her.

However...when i see a person with multiple pictures up and down their arms, chest, back neck & face i always think,"There goes someone who doesn't aspire to be more than they are today." No matter how "great" a tattoo looks, it still makes them look sleazy,IMO. I would never say anything to them, but I sure as heck would'nt hire them for anything that involves working with the public(unless i owned a motorcycle shop or a music store). Flame away, you won't change how I feel.

Cathy

Wow Cathy, That is a great observation and one that I completely agree with.

I had a small tatoo done on my right shoulder (butterfly) many years ago & as soon as i had it done i regretted it...

I thought I'd post a photo of the tattoo I have now.
It's a classic Pooh. I got this done for my mother. She grew up and Pooh's stories were her favorites. She made sure that my sister and I grew up listening to her favorite stories. In fact, I have the original copy of her Pooh stories. The cover is coming apart and the pages are yellow but I love it all the same.
The photo is blurry beacuse the tattoo is on my right calf and that's a hard spot to take a picture of yourself!

I don't like tattoos. If someone wants to get a tattoo,it's their business(unless it's my underage child). Couldn't have said it better myself.

No flames here but are tattoos the only bias you have? How about women who clearly bleach their hair or have dyed black hair or men who have earrings? How about a guy with a mullett?
Would you turn away a very qualified candidate for a job based only on their tattoos?
I completely completely understand your point of view. Tattoos aren't for everyone at all.
What is it about the tattoos that you think looks "sleezy"?

Colored hair is not a permanent change to one's appearance. And as long as they choose a standard hair color, no problem. I would not hire someone with tatoos, or green hair, or a guy with an earring, or woman with a tongue ring... you get the picture. If you choose to alter your appearance in any of these ways, prepare for the consequences. Simply put, it's unprofessional. I can't send someone to visit a client, as a representative of my company, with a visible tatoo or other oddity that is distracting to the business at hand. Think about it.

this has been an interesting thread. I can't believe with as common a thing as tatoos are that there are still people out there who would discriminate against someone based solely on a tatoo. I guess I should not be surprised, but I am.

I don't have one, always said that I would get one after natural childbirth because if I could survive that I could survive a tatoo. Well, I did the natural childbirth, twice. But still don't have the tatoo. Can't find anything I want to committ to for life. But I love other people's tatoos and find many of them to be very beautiful. I know many many tattooed and otherwise decorated people who work in a variety of corporate, white collar jobs and cannot imagine them being discriminated against solely for this reason.

For those of you who have said you would NEVER hire someone with a tatoo, what would you do if you hired someone only to find out they did have a tatoo? Does your company have a written policy against body modification?

Let's say I get hit by a bus.

When they take me into the ER, if the doctor who saves my life has 40 tattoos and a tongue ring, I'm certainly not going to complain about it. I'd rather be operated on by someone with a lot of body modifications who knows what they are doing than by someone who looks as clean cut as Beaver Cleaver but does not have a clue.

Thank you for this comment. My tatoo is never seen at work, unless i am wearing capris (we have causal dress at work). It does not in any way what-so-ever have any effect on the way I preform my job. PLUS - wouldn't it be some type of discrimination if you didn't hire or fired someone because they had a tatoo?

I considered getting one in my youth.....now that I'm 40, I'm soooooo glad I didn't! Even though I would have never considered getting one where people could see it openly.

That being said, I don't a problem with anyone else having one tattoo or many tattoos. Perhaps 20 years ago I might have judged a woman with a lot of tattoos, or at the very least thought of her as a biker/Hells Angels type, but today, I think its more common for "regular" people to want to have. No biggie. Just not for me. To each her own.

I was wondering the same thing. As I said, I am not a tattoo fan, but I wouldn't & have not discriminated against my employees that have one.

One of my teachers has a cross on her back - on the left shoulder. She also has one on one side of her chest - I think it's a rose. She is a great instructor & the kids love her. An assistant goes to Harkness for Cosmetology - she has come in with pink hair :earseek: - it's just hair. Do I like it - no, but it doesn't change the person she is & I have never gotten a comment from the parents about it. A few of the girls have belly piercings - also doesn't change who they are (of course, if I had a stomach/body like some of those teens I would piece my belly button also! )

Anyway, my point is that a tattoo does not change a person's work ethic or the person they are. I don't care for them, but I don't judge people by them & I do employee people.

I guess it goes with personal preference. I have two small ones that are private. I also am looking into getting another one or two. But they will also be small and placed discreetly. Each person that gets a tattoo has a meaning behind it to them. I don't really care for the body art myself. But that is me. Although some of it is simply a work of art.

Papaduce - you need to go to a Tattoofest. WOW is all I can say.
