Women with tatoos.

Ok...as a mother of 6 - I'm embarrassed to admit that I got one last summer. It's a teeny tiny little Hawaiian flower on my upper thigh. I've always loved Hawaii. I'm glad I did it - I like it, my dh likes it. I don't know, maybe when I'm 60 I'll feel differently. I don't like huge tattoos though at all, mine is probably the size of a nickle.

My friend has the entire Aerosmith logo (wings and all) across her upper thigh, then when she went back stage to meet the band (yes, Aerosmith); she had Joe Perry and Steven Tyler sign her thigh (she's not shy) with permanent marker and went to her tattoo artist the next morning and had him tattoo the autographs on her thigh....and every time she wears shorts or skirts she has women and men stop her to check it out. It's actually pretty cool, the logo is light purple and a yellow-gold and the autographs are dark purple, so its different....I'll say that....and I'll just stick with my pierced belly and ears.....one in the belly, 9 in the ears, that's enough for me....sorry just had to add that!

I got my first tattoo when I was 21...an angel on a cloud on my right hip. It was supposed to look like a precious moments angel (I'm a collector). Doesn't exactly look like one, but it's cute none the less. This past year, for my own 30th birthday present, I went & got 2 butterflies on my lower back - one pink for DD and one blue for DS. I LOVE THEM! They mean so much to me, because I am so proud of myself for having them (it wasn't easy) and I just so enjoy being a mom, and that was my way of expressing that.

The tattoo thing is always a debate, it's amazing to me.

Wow! That is crazy. That is definately a hardcore fan....

:earseek:

If I had a belly that would look good pierced, I'd consider that. But I don't. I did when I was 19 and considered it then, but now I'm glad I didn't. But hey- to women who have bellies that look good pierced, more power to you!

For those of you who have said you would NEVER hire someone with a tatoo, what would you do if you hired someone only to find out they did have a tatoo? Does your company have a written policy against body modification?

I am in the healthcare field, working with children. As a professional, it is incumbent upon me to project a clean, neat appearance so as to put parents at ease.. My hospital does have a policy regarding piercings, tattoos, hair, and other forms of self-expression. We aren't allowed to smoke on campus either. But I don't mind--they pay me twice a month(very well, I might add!), therefore they can feel free to tell me how much of my body they would or would not like to see and what color my hair can be.

If I were in need of help and the only person available was highly qualified, but tattoed, of course I would accept their help. Duh, I'm not stupid. Tattoos do not diminish anyone's intelligence. If you love your tattoo, more power to you. If you can wear your tattoos proudly and get paid for it, great!

To me, large, obvious tattoos project an un-professional attitude. If I am paying the salary, I want a certain look--no "goth", no visible piercings, no tattoos, no hair colors not found in nature. I expect clean, neat, wholesome people delivering my goods and services.

I guess I'm a little confused understanding why if a person has a tatoo that would not qualify them as being clean, neat, wholesome. My tatoo doesn't keep me from showering everyday! :D :D :D :D

Or hair color not found in nature. My best friend is an african american woman who sometimes put bright red highlights in her hair. That hair color does not occur naturally in african american women.

She is one of the most brilliant, and professional looking people I know and I like her hair, it looks cute on her.

I guess I just don't see what having these things has to do with looking clean and neat. Some people with them look cleaner and neater than some people without them.

I guess it goes with personal preference. I have two small ones that are private. I also am looking into getting another one or two. But they will also be small and placed discreetly. Each person that gets a tattoo has a meaning behind it to them. I don't really care for the body art myself. But that is me. Although some of it is simply a work of art.

Papaduce - you need to go to a Tattoofest. WOW is all I can say
.

I have been to one. In fact I edited a video for one. YIKES!!!!!

A lot of very interesting people.... :earseek:

I think that the reputation of people who have tattoos has changed over the years, just like people who own Harleys. It seems like both have become more mainstream. You see a lot of male and female college students with tattoos nowadays. It's isn't all drunken sailors or biker women! LOL! :earseek: :cool1:

Hmmm.... as I stated in an earlier post I have two tattoos and I am a successful business owner, wife and mother. I am highly respected and look just like every other attractive 31 yr old female walking around. I can't believe how crazy people get over discussing something like a tattoo. Makes me want to go out and get another one :smooth:

Me too! In fact, I was planning to get another on Mother's Day. This entire thread just made me think I may do it sooner. Don't want to appear to be too clean, neat and wholesome! :D

i have a tattoo on my shoulder. i've had it since i was 18 and i have never ergretted it. it is something that i know i will like no matter how old i am. i got it on my shoulder so i could easily cover it up, but also show it easily (in the summer anyways) and also because no matter what weight i gain/lose it's doubtful i will get stretch marks on my shoulder. :p

i love it so much that i put sunscreen on it everyday in the summer to make sure i don't get a freckle on it (i am prone to freckling).

to each his own. most people i work with don't know i have one because i don't expose my shoulders at work.

A lot of very tollerant kind people who know that beauty isn't just skin deep and don't befriend someone based on the way they look or modifications they have or have not made to their bodies.
They know that just because that woman in the supermarket has purple hair doesn't mean that she isn't a super mom to her little guys or beacause that guy has a demon tattooed on his back, doesn't mean that he's a worshiper of the darkside...

I personally wouldn't want one. I saw a girl at the beach who had a big flower or sun type tattoo on her belly, around her belly button, somthing like that (can't remember for sure).

After having 2 c-sections myself, I thought how lovely hers would be after she gets pregnant & if she has to ever have a c-section, that is going to be one sad looking tatoo.

wouldn't it be some type of discrimination if you didn't hire or fired someone because they had a tatoo?

Sorry but people with tatoos are not a protected class... therefore there are no laws to protect them if they were to be fired or not offered a job on this basis alone.

And an employer has every right to decide what type of image the company projects.

The ONLY ONLY way I can see a legal lawsuit is if you are hired without the tattoos, go and get a full sleve or whatever and then are fired for the tattoos.

So how is the person doing the hiring to know if a person has a tatoo or not? Ask them to strip?

I guess this is the part I'm not understanding. What type of image are you referring to? I don't see how myself, or anyone else that I work with that has tatoos, are doing anything to lower the image of the company I work for. Which happens to be one of the largest manufacturers of lawn, garden and commercial lawn equipment in the world. And no, I don't have a manufacturing job. Fortunately, the company feels the same way I do! I think employees with tatoos are the least of their worries!
