OK, I'm sure you all are getting sick of my posts, but I needed to give my training update. I had my LR yesterday - MfM called for 9 miles. Around 6:30am I went to my favorite park to run along the Genesee River into downtown Rochester. I had a zen-like moment on the trail that I have to share. At one point about 2.5 miles into my run the trail is not right next to the river and you're in among a canopy of trees. The trail then comes out of the trees, and turns to put you right along the river. The sun was rising, and the sky was a beautiful shade of what my mom always called sky blue pink. The river was wide and still, pink sky reflecting off of it, the city skyline was stretched out in front of me, and on the river was a log with 4 geese and a heron all sitting there. The sight actually gave me goosebumps, and I thought "yes, this is what I'm out here for."
I did my usual 9R/1W pace, and my Garmin said I ran 9.22 miles in 1:40:00 min or 10:51 mpm pace. However, I know that can't be correct. Here's my splits:
Mile 1: 10:10
Mile 2: 11:06
Mile 3: 10:07
Mile 4: 14:57
Couldn't be right - I wasn't walking.
Mile 5: 10:59
Mile 6: 10:19
Mile 7: 9:53
Mile 8: 10:14
Mile 9: 10:05
When I got home, I mapped my route on the USATF map a route site, and it came out that I ran 10 MILES not 9. Whoa, that matches the farthest I've ever run, and if I did run 10 miles I was at a solid 10 mpm pace the whole time.
Now, here's the bad news. My left calf is killing me. It's a dull ache, right in the middle of the calf, and I'm walking with a limp. It didn't really bother me on the run except when I would start running again after the 1 min walking breaks. The calf has been sore for at a couple of weeks now, and I always thought it was just tightness in the muscle. But this is definitely not muscle tightness. I'm trying to ice it as much as I can, I'm popping a lot of Allieve too. I hope it goes away because I don't want it to alter my plans of running the Niagara Fallsview 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks. I also don't want my DW to see me limping around - especially when I was just planning on popping the news that I'm planning on running the WDW Full Marathon. I feel good that I ran 10 miles, and I just need to get this muscle soreness under control. OK, I'm off to do some more icing now.

At first it freaked me out, but now it's not a big deal. It's like a badge of honor for putting in all these miles!
for your calf! And they have a Niagara Falls 1/2? Oh boy - I've been wanting to bring Chad there someday. He's never been, and it's been about 10 years since I went. I think I need to make a list of races I'd like to do, and what time of year they do them.
...anyway, at that time I was not a runner, walker, or anything in between...I think they called me a couch potato...yeah that was the right term for me...so I decided that I was going to do the Minnie Marathon, I really don't know why I decided to do it, I guess I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. So I started training...not training like you guys are doing, I never read any books, I just kinda made up my own training, which was just walking every day. I figured if I could at least walk 3 miles a day, then I would be able to do the 15k. I had lost about 18lbs before the 15k approached. The funny thing about it was that while "training" I wanted to run soooo bad but for some reason I cannot do it...I get about 1/4 of a mile and I feel like my chest is going to explode...I see peopple running all around me, and it upsets me so much becuase I WANT to b a runner...now let me say that I do have exercise induced asmtha. So have any of you started off this way, and how in the world do I overcome this...is it even possible??? Oh and I am now down to 171lbs...but I plan on being about 145 before the full. Right now I am training for the full, and I just printed out a walking training schedule. Any advice would be greatly appriciated!!!! THANKS A MILLION!!!
It's my excuse & I am sticking with it!
! I think many of us can relate to your experience. If you had asked me to run anywhere 2 years ago, I would've told you I'd only do it if something big and scary was chasing me
)
Anyone else want to add their weight loss to the WISH team total?

No need to feel overwhelmed! (At least not with us!) The whole training/racing thing is a bit overwheleming at first, but if you have any questions, there are a bunch of "vets" here who might be able to help. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor about your shortness of breath concerns before you get deep into training.

Not trying to loose weight anymore though.....I eat like a COW!
) I ran just fine. Your doctor should be able to answer all of your questions and alleviate any fears that you might have because lots of professional athletes have asthma.
Sorry to hear you are ill. I know how you feel about wanting a good week of training under your belt. It's been exactly 3 weeks since I've been able to get a full week of training in....mentally that is really hard....I need a confidence booster myself. I hope you get well really quickly....and GOOD FOR YOU for listening to your body and not pushing that 11 mile run. It would have definitely been a bad idea and made you even sicker! Your pace has been outstanding lately...you'll be back at it in no time. Good luck with your super busy week!!!
