Wk of Nov 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Everyone,
Last night was a rest night for me - - tonight my goal is 7 miles.

Still a little bummed that I haven’t received my packet yet but hopefully it will come within the next couple of days.

Jen/Kristi – Great pictures, thank you for sharing. :goodvibes

Kristi...we call our CD collection 'eclectic'. It ranges from big band to jazz/blues to metal with large splashes from the 80s and 90s.
I have a similar collection

Jodi - I meant to tell you how jealous I was that you got to spend your anniversary in Salem, MA. My husband and I fell in love there (on a business trip of all things) and even gave our daughter the middle name of Salem. I can't wait until she is a bit older so we can take her on a trip to visit!
That’s really cool for a middle name. I love Salem! We try and go there at least once a year……just to get away from everything and you can’t beat the scenery. :thumbsup2

Jodi - I know what you mean about people around you making weird noises. During that race yesterday, there was a guy behind me near the end, hocking lugies (?). GROSS!!!
I definitely know what you mean by the guy with the lugies that always seems to be behind you, at first it grossed me out but now when I’m running I think more of “Oh god, please don’t let any of that spit end up on me.” Heheh

Jodi - I completely get the hamster guy. Those last few miles on a treadmill are hard enough without THAT kind of noise to send you over the edge. Good job on your 12! That is a long time on a treadmill, I don't know how you did it. I need pointers as I have a 16 mile run coming up at thanksgiving that I am going to have to do on a treadmill.
I try to vary the speed and the incline as I go along….That might help you too on the threadmill.

Judy, I you are so lucky to have Charlie train with you, although….I know what you mean about running in the gutter……god, I wish Bob was able to run with me.

I think I have an emotional issue. Watching the start of the NYC Marathon yesterday I was crying.
Judy, I’m the same way…..so Disney might have to deal with more than one weeper.

Sorry to hear about Misty

Okay – I was trying to catch up with everyone - - I’m sorry if I missed anyone……Everyone – Have a great day……off to work I go.

Good morning Wish team!!!! Hope everyone is doing great today. I had another fabulous run last night on the treadmill (knock on wood, I haven't had a stonker in 2 weeks :woohoo: ). I did 6 miles in 1:03, my first 45 minutes I did r3/w1 and then the last 15 minutes I did r4/w1--one more minute to go before I'm back to where I was before I sprained my ankle. I don't know how you Goofy people do it, I ran 14 on Saturday morning, took Sunday completely off and then started my 6 miles on Monday night--a whole 57 1/2 hours later and my legs were still so tired. It took a good 30-35 minutes to get into the run and get comfortable. My hat goes off to you Goofys!!

Christa--Please tell Bree congratulations!!!!!!! Lucas is so handsome. How is she doing now? How was Disney? I thought about you on Halloween night, having fun at MNSSHP.

Judy and Jodi--Don't worry about crying during the marathon, I cried lots during the Disney half. Let's see, I cried at the start, around mile 5 when I saw the top spires of Cinderella Castle by the Contemporary, I cried at mile 12 because they were playing "Hung Up" by Madonna and I trained to that song, and then I cried at the finish. I am a very emotional person, cry all the time, so you won't be alone in your tears. :teeth:

Jen--Congrats on your medal, that's awesome!!!

Terri--I hope you get to feeling better. Definitely don't run with your equilibrium messed up or you'll end up with scarred knees from falling, like me. ;)

Heather--Great quotes, I have to add my favorite now: "Why couldn't Pheidippides have died at mile 20?" :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Sunny--That is too funny about your office woes. Glad that the IS department was able to recover her work. Maybe you should just take a blanket to work with you from now on. ;) :)

Carrie--I am a treadmill runner, but I cannot do the elliptical machine, it is SO hard. Awesome job for sticking with it for an hour.

Cecilia--I hate to tell you, but I laughed out loud reading about your run on Saturday. Do you think someone was telling you to just stay home?? Great job for finishing the run in those "conditions". :teeth:

Dana--That is so weird about the AP rates. We are only staying at the All Stars for Friday and Saturday night and then we're switching to the Board Walk Villas after the marathon on Sunday and staying there the rest of the week. It amazes me how the one CM can tell you one thing and another CM will tell you something completely different. Maybe we'll try calling again tonight and see what they say.

Dave--I don't even want to talk about the Steelers.

I better get started on my work, I'm sure I'll be back later. Just wanted to leave everyone with this thought: 60 days until the half marathon and 61 days until the full marathon. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Christa – Thank you so much for sharing the news and the pictures. Bree looks gorgeous, as usual – megawatt smile is right! Lucas is absolutely beautiful and Ron looks so proud he could burst! So glad everyone is doing well. BTW, we miss you around here – come back when you have time and just let us know you are doing okay, sweetie!

Heather – Thank you so much for sharing those sayings. I was :rotfl: at some of them. What a riot! I am printing them out for my office and my fridge!

Judy -- :lovestruc

I didn't train at all last night. I was watching the CMA Country Music Awards and DS was taping our two shows -- "The Class" and "Heroes" for me to watch tonight, though I won't be home from 2 meetings and an appt until about 9:30 or 10. I wish I could have watched the show at the gym but knew no one would want that on the tv. But that would have been so great -- 3 hours on the treadmill, totally entertained, and watching some of the hottest men in the world making great music! :cloud9: But alas, I was home - sewing buttons on my son's uniform blazer, tearing the place apart looking for my voting card and sewing a button on Howard's shirt. Since Sunday was 8.58, I guess a rest night wasn't a bad idea.

Since Heather brought up cafepress, I thought I'd share some of my newest designs:

Congratulations, Bree!

Thanks Christa for posting the link to the baby pics. What a blessed time!

Good Morning TEAM:

Boy, I'm feeling a little run down this week. I feel like I am not getting enough rest/sleep. What's up with that? Anyway, I'm still dragging my behind out there.

Yesterday, called for 60 min, and I did 6.01 miles in 59:01 min - sub 10 min miles!!! :cool1: I ran on the hilly Mt Hope Cemetery course and did 2, 3 mile loops.

Mile 1: 9:44 min
Mile 2: 9:13 min
Mile 3: 10:15 min
Mile 4: 10:04 min
Mile 5: 9:24 min
Mile 6: 10:11 min

This morning I was at the gym at 6:00am, and did 50 min x-training on the elliptical (including 5 min warm up and cool down).

So, I don't know if I'm sold on my new shoes the Saucony Trigon 3 Ride. They seem tighter than when I tried them on and bought them on Friday, and my feet were falling asleep on the elliptical this morning. If I loosen the laces, the shoes are too loose in the heel. I might take them back, but I've already done a couple of runs in them. :confused3

OK, I need to get to work now. Have a great day everyone!

Congratulations Bree on the new Baby! Thanks for posting the pictures!

Dave - If those shoes don't feel right take them back. Any good running store lets you try them and then return for a different pair if they don't work out. Now is not the time to deal with shoes that don't fit properly.

Thanks for posting the pictures of Bree's baby....what a cutie! Also, I loved all your marathon pictures, especially WDW. Is the coarse the same now as in 2004? You two looked like you were having a ball.

Good morning. :)

Today was a XT day for me, so I only did 30 min on the TM @ 4.0 @ 1%, then I hopped on the stationary bike for a while.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts about Mist. :sad2: This entire situation has both Charlie and I in a funk. I find it hard to believe too, that the judge would even consider giving these horses back to this woman. Her defense is that these horses were old and that is why they were "emaciated". Yeah, well then how come Mist looks so well rounded and plump and shiny and happy now? She didn't get any younger, did she? The cruelty part of the trial starts Monday and the director of the sanctuary has asked us all to go. A sort of strength in numbers thing. I don't know that I can. I don't know that I could be in the same room as that woman.

I'm sorry to be so depressing.

Let me press on.....

Kevin - Ahhh, I hate to tell you this, but we all knew you were going Goofy. We were just waiting on YOU to realize it. I'm glad to hear it. I'll be by the YC/BC looking for you. :woohoo:

Sunny - OMG! I'm sorry to laugh, but well, it is kinda funny! :rotfl: Especially your comment about the hair dryer! Those designs are great! I may have to put some Living Lively items on my Christmas List! But then, that would require my being a good girl....Hmmmm.... :rolleyes1

Oh Jen - That's very exciting! Yay for the bling!

Christa - Oh WOW! How exciting! :jumping3: Thanks for all the neat pics! Congratulations to everyone! And welcome Lucas! :welcome:

Terri - Oh how painful and annoying that must be. Are you going to see an ENT?

Jodi - :wizard: for you getting your packet!

Krista - OK good to know I won't be the only emotional mess. But I'm really going to try to keep it in check until the finish.

Dave - I heard somewhere once that feet falling asleep on the elliptical was because you never pick them up as you would if you were walking or running. I don't remember where I got that from though, but it kinda makes sense. :confused3

BTW, I told someone last night that I was shooting for a sub 3 marathon, just like Lance Armstrong did. I didn't mention, though, that I was only going half the distance. :lmao:

Hi Judy- I am so, so sorry that the trial for Mist is not going better for you. I agree with you completely if the reason the horses were emaciated was because they were old, then they certainly should never have gained weight when they went to your custody. Aaaarrrrrrgh... good luck with the cruelty part of the trial. That does not sound fun at all.

Yes, I remember hearing that issue about feet falling asleep on the elliptical too. Maybe I heard that from you before? :confused3 However, I have to say my feet did not fall asleep in my old shoes when I used the elliptical. I think I may run out to the shoe store over lunch.

Oh thats a good point I guess. Duh for me! If your feet didn't fall asleep in the old shoes...OK I wasn't thinking clearly. Let us know what you get.

Sunny, love your new designs!!! :thumbsup2 I now know what I will get my running buddy for Christmas.

Christa, thanks for the pics of Bree and Lucas and the clan! :cloud9:

Dave, I just bought a pair a Saucony Grid 4's. I like them so far, but they are a little loose in the heel. Have you told the wife yet? Can't wait to hear all about it.

Judy, you are allowed to be in a funk about Mist, she is your baby! Take care,

Krista, great treadmill work! Wow, you are speedy with those intervals. :thumbsup2

Carrie and Heather, sounds like you girls had a great time together! It is always nice to have someone to chat with. Now you know each other in real life, I am jealous.

Terri, congrats on your package! Goofy again for you! :cheer2: I am trying it this year for the first time! :Pinkbounc

Jodi, did you say your friend may not be able to run Disney?

Sara, how is your training coming? You have a lot to look forward to, Disney and then the cruise. Did you say your cruise is leaving the day of the marathon? Which ship are you sailing?

Well looks like a have a LR and the treadmill today since it is raining cats and dogs outside. I have to post here to keep myself accountable. Not looking forward to back to back long runs in the upcoming weeks. Do any of you Goofy people have any tips for those back to back long runs?? Nutrition, hydration, etc., etc.,

Colleen

Hey all, it was cross training for me today. I did 40 minutes of a step video and some ab crunches. I haven't cross trained in several weeks, so it feels good to be back on track.

Today is my wedding anniversary, 8 years. This is the first year in around 5 that we aren't at WDW. Now that my DD is in school, we decided not to take her out for our Anniv. trip. So it is a little sad to be home!!! DH bought me roses tho, he hasn't done that in years!!!!

Oh, and the guy that challenged me to run the 1/2 told me this morning he is pulling out. I laid into him and now he is mad, so he is going to try to work it into his schedule. I told him my goal was to beat him!! So who knows. He will be running with someone he knows (if he goes), but I would just love to pass him!!! He hasn't done any of the races I have done this year, even tho he tells me he will be there. He was supposed to run the 10K with me and didn't. I told him I was disappointed in him!! ;)

Judy - :grouphug: I hope everything works out for Mist. I just don't know why this lady would want the horse back. Doesn't she think that people will scrutinize her? And, my horse was about 28 years old when I sold her and she was not emaciated at all. In fact, I still rode her at that age.

Colleen - Training is going rather well at this point in time, thank you so much for asking. :cool1: My cruise plans are off since my DD9 has New York State ELA testing the week of 1/8-1/12. Being a teacher yourself, you know she really cannot miss the tests. I am now contemplating having to fly back to NY pretty much post-marathon so she can be at school on Monday. :rolleyes1

Are you still in recovery post-Chicago or are you full-steam-ahead Goofy training?

Good morning all!!

Catching up a bit...

Angie-- Great race report!!!! :thumbsup2 Way to go!!!

Carrie-- Pixie dust or no pixie dust, the way things are shaking out, I don't think it'll help. It's fine, though, really.... I'll get the training in. (Maybe I'll just give up on sleep altogether....)

Jen-- Oh, I hear you about the medals. That's the WHOLE reason I'm doing Goofy. :teeth:

Christa-- Thanks for the pictures. Make sure to give Bree our best from everyone here!!!!

Dave-- It sounds like you are a little overtrained, perhaps. (Although the times on your training runs look great!) If your body is telling you to rest more, then rest more. This is the month where those LRs go WAY long, so you'll want to go at them with plenty of energy.

Judy-- I'm glad you all were sure I was going to do it, because I wasn't so sure for a while there. :teeth: I'm so sorry to hear about all the struggles with Mist :grouphug:

Judy (again)-- I use the Amphipod Trail Something-Or-Other, so I don't have the bottles with clips. Mine has one big bottle that slides in behind the pouch, so I don't have any issues with removal or replacement. I love the thing, the only issue I'm finding is the need to readjust the waist a couple of times every run to get it just right. (E.g. no bouncing, but not too tight)

I've got 4 miles this afternoon (or is is 5??), that I am very looking forward to. I had planned to run this morning, but I had an early meeting and needed to go vote before work, so my civic duty prevailed and I moved my run to this afternoon. I spent all last night studying for a Statistics exam, so I need the destresser this afternoon anyhow.

It's so hard to believe it's 60 days til marathon weekend. This is about the point last year where my training started to slide big-time, so I don't want a repeat of that this year (especially since I haven't trained nearly enough up to this point!!)

Back to work here...
Have a great training day!!

Wow, I don't think I would ever get to the point where someone would think I was OVERtrained!!! Thanks Kevin, you made my day! And, thanks again for letting me know it's OK to miss a day and get some more rest. I can do that. I agree, I want to be rested for that LR on Saturday. I'm scheduled to go 16 miles, and I'm a little intimidated by that. My legs felt a little heavy today, and I just feel tired. I messing up my words when I talk, lose my train of thought, etc. I'm getting 8 hours of sleep, but it just doesn't seem enough. I think I may just take tomorrow off and give myself a break.

Enjoy your run this afternoon. And good luck keeping up with the training and not letting it slide.

All my best!!

I totally skimmed b/c i haven't beeen able to read in days.

Dave-did you tell yet or is that next weekend? I don't want to miss it.

Cool race photos!!
There was a 1/2 mar in santa barbara on sun, but i didn't know util it was too late or i would have done it!!

Phil had a very disappointing race. One of his team members bike was damaged on one of the downhills, and they had to dnf. On the bright side, they only race for about 14 hours, so he got enough sleep and was not sore to enjoy the rest f our vacation.

I WENT TO DISNEYLAND!! It was really fun and we were pretty functional there (I credit it to this board!!)

Congrats to BREE!! I'll hve to look closer when i get back.

Sunny - We should get together and discuss training plans. EC's knee is still hurting, so i'll have to train entirely solo, and i just don't think i can do that, so i'm going to do more cross training and less running.

Too funny, Jen! My anniversary is Thursday - 7 years! I'll have to post a pic on Thursday...
(and if anyone thinks it's odd that we are married 7 years, and Jen 8 - and our dates are 2 days apart....it's because we got married on a Tuesday. It was cheaper! ALOT cheaper!)

We were able to go back to WDW for our first anniversary. But the day we left was the big hanging-chad voting mess. (my Chad never heard the end of that one ;) ) My work was crazy & short-handed, so they deemed from then on no one could take any time off during the ratings book. So, we can't go back to the 'scene of the crime' on our day anymore. (we got married at WDW)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Back to the thread at hand - I am heading to the Y with Mom shortly to do my 40 mins. xt. Maybe I'll get adventurous & try that elliptical again...

ETA: OMG! After all these years, I finally got tagged!
