Wk Of Nov 11 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning WISH Team.

So Bill is inviting the other thread posters to come over here? I thought he was getting abused enouth by those of us already here, guess not. I guess I've been slack in my Bill teasing duties. So for your enjoyment here is a picture of his scuba trip from the Oct visit.

Erica and I are off on an 18 miler today, oh goody. I feel rested and ready so I should be able to keep up with the wonder princess today. See I have the same problem as Craig, all fast twitch muscle fibers. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Good morning WISH team! :surfweb:

Yesterday was 3 hours and 15 minutes. Roughly 17 miles. The longest I've ever run in my life. Last week after 3 hours my groin hurt. I did a lot of stretching and it didn't hurt this week. What DID hurt was my shin down close to the ankle. I had to stop and rub it once. I iced and took lots of ibuprofen and it's feeling much better. However, DH--Calcio--has forbidden me from running until wednesday. He will hide my running shoes if he has to. So I'll rest today, which was planned anyway, and do some light cross-training tomorrow. More ibuprofen and ice today. Oh, and raking leaves. Yippee!

WWDave: must be a guy thing this fast twitch muscle thingy! Hope your 18 miles goes well.

nepatsfan Bill: how did the 3 miles go and how is the back feeling?

Renee: good luck on your 6 miles? Hope the temp warms up for you.

Kristi1357: take it easy on that bike! How are your legs feeling today?

princessrunner: have you tried some shuttle diplomacy on your legs? Bribery--I personally feel that bribery is under-rated--might work too! Hope the workout goes well.

Beth: great job on the 8 miles!

Calcio: you still inspire me! I've never run these distances and I do not want to embarrass you at the marathon this January. :love2:

Have a lovely day everyone!

Martha: :lmao: Bribery may work. I am trying ignoring the problem and hoping it goes away.....:rolleyes1

Martha you are so sweet. Tell Craig to take you out and buy you a new fall running outfit. Yes it's a guy thing, that extra cromosone leg is all slow twitch.

Kristi, I thought you might like these:

Essential New Words For The Work Place:

BLAMESTORMING: Sitting around in a group, discussing why a deadline was missed, or a project failed, and exactly who was responsible.

SEAGULL MANAGER: A manager who flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything and everybody and then leaves.

ASSMOSIS: The process by which people seem to absorb success and advancement - by sucking up to the boss rather than working hard.

SALMON DAY: The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream, only to get screwed and die.

CUBE FARM: An office filled with cubicles.

PRAIRIE DOGGING: When someone yells or drops something loudly in a cube farm and peoples' heads pop up over the walls to see what's going on. Also applies to applause for a promotion because there may be cake.

Remember there is no problem so big you can't hide from it.

Have a great week all & just remember --- "you put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll being walkin cross the floor, you put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be out the door" --- or however the song goes :rotfl2:

Man, if I ran with one foot in front of the other, I'd be on my laces and soon, I'd be rolling cross the floor. :rotfl2: I have not even walked like that since modeling school waaaaaaay back when and that was on 6 inch heels. :scared1:

Do any of the New England people do the Great Bay half in New Market, NH? It is 4/6 (the weekend before Minnie) and I was thinking that since I have a 15 mile run scheduled anyway, this might be a fun one as it is only 2 hours away. :woohoo: Has anyone done it and is anyone doing it????? :confused3
Chad, my mom and me did it last year. Hills, hills and more hills. I am not doing that one again. I am glad I did a local half though.

Renee - Chad is like that - loving the Christmas music already. And making me crazy!

WWDave/Panda - great definitions!

Ok, we are off to our parent/teacher conference. I've never been to one of these - should be interesting....

Thanks Kristi. That was what I wanted to know. No need to wear myself out if I plan to do the Minnie the following week. I have hills here but I guess I am so used to them they don't count anymore. Except this one hill....about 2.5 miles into the run....:scared:

Quick weekend report-

Saturday, ran in a Veteran's Day 5k. I won my age group! (there were two of us). I finished in 25:42ish. It was really fast for me. I kept thinking about how ridiculous it is that I can run for many more miles, but add a little speed and it kills me! I guess I have the opposite problem of Craig! I'm a plodder, not a sprinter.;)

Sunday, Harry got up at 5:45 a.m. Had to go through the routine of letting him Body Glide his feet- because you know, he could develop some serious blisters in his footy PJs sitting in the stroller! We did 17 miles. Overall it was pretty good- there were moments of despair, but not as bad as I would have expected. I ran the 17 miles in 3 hours even, but we did take some stops (first time I ever stopped at a convenience store mid-run!) I turned the timer off for extended stops. Overall, we were on the roads from 6:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. or so. I started walking the second my 17 miles were done, but discovered quickly that walking hurt more than doing a little hobbling jog, so I hobbled the last block home. :scared:

I'm a little sore but feel more confident about the LRs (that's not to say I'm not twitching looking at my calendar).

Morning folks! We have today off in lieu of Rememberance Day yesterday, but work is so busy for me right now that I decided to come into the office. (...and here I am posting on the DIS boards...) The end of the year is crazy in the oil and gas industry - we have to calculate our reserves before the end of the year and this is my first year doing them.

I was aiming for a Short Long Run of 4 miles on Saturday and a Long Long Run of 8 miles on Sunday, but things were busy for me on Saturday so I didn't get the run in. Thought about lumping all the mileage into Sunday but didn't have the time for that long of a run. So I ran 8 in 1:29:29 for an 11:11/mi pace. I have my running gear at work so I'll get those 4 miles in today over lunch.

This week I have the following planned:
Tues: XT
Weds: 4 mi
Thur: 4 mi
Friday: REST
Saturday: 6 mi
Sunday: 12 mi

Have a good one everyone!

Jen...:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
who cares how many were in your group.....you rocked!!!!!

Jen - Those are terrific times! I ran my 15 in 3 hours last weekend. I would definitely say you were speedy. Way to go!!!

Hopefully, you have room for another walker on this thread.

I'm training for the Donald in January :donald: it's my first 1/2 EVER. I participated in RFTT and now I'm hooked!

I recently joined a healthclub to enhance my training because here in Chicago, it won't be long before I can't walk outdoors. It's been many years since I had a healthclub membership, and I didn't realize how much I missed it. Yesterday I walked 3 miles on the treadmill and used an ellipical for 20 minutes.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Dreambeliever: :welcome: to the madness!!!!

Good luck on your half training. I am jealous. Donald 2009 for me, after Minnie, after ToT again. My DH is going to cut up my American Express!!! :sad2:

Jodi, Cindy, Optimator Mike and all other MCMers n/k/a Philly '08ers :welcome:

OK, so the Patriots weren't playing, Boo-boo Dave wasn't around to cause trouble and I was stuck at a swim meet for 5+ hours. Thus, I decided to start a little trouble. "Regular posters on this thread." I mean c'mon, we had to send out Kevin Costner in his role as an air-sea rescue diver and the rest of his search and rescue team to find MSDave after he dumped us for your thread, then he returns like Ron Popiel pitching Minnie Marathon Tours. ;) (Which I will unfortunely not be able to participate in.) I am extemely new to this stuff, but I missed MSDave's morning waking up, fueling up and thread recaps. Plus, you guys are posting what looks like helpful info as to recovery and training (the training looks more like an event in mid-January 2008, than 53 weeks away though). I hope you all realize it was in good fun and for team building purposes.

Only got 2-miles in last night as the swim meet went longer than expected (although DD#3, after getting about 2 hours sleep the night before at a friends "awake-over" party, did have 3 PRs in her 3 events), met up with the rest of the family after for dinner and helped get some of the youngin's bedded down. Body feels fair now, so WILL do three (3) miles later today.

Oh,and Optimator Mike--"Patsy" Bill, "Patsy" Bill --Call me Mr. "Patsy" Bill. Just bring it big fellah. You might be able to out run me now. But we'll see how fast you are Sunday January 13 after 39.3 miles. ;) Fast enough to meet for a post Goofy beer somewhere in the World Showcase. (Post-Goofy for you, not me ... this year anyway.)

Ok so I have been keeping up with the posts but just haven't posted lately because well there hasn't been anything to post. That's right no training what so ever since Thursday and at that it was only 2 miles - I think I have only done about 8 miles total since the TOT. I think I might get on the TM tonight but might not depending of time (LTO and all....) I definately want to get out tomorrow AM and at least do 3 miles. I have been trying to let my shin splints heal so hopefully they won't bother me anymore. I still am contemplating doing a 4 mile run on Thanksgiving AM - Run 4 the Pies - 4 miler, first 600 finishers get an apple pie for finishing. Otherwise I might do the 5k that is associated with the Marathon of the Palm Beaches on Dec 1.

Just wanted to say HAPPY Veterans day to all veterans!!

Congrats to all who did ther LR's - even if they are were stonkers at least you got out there and did them!!!

Kristi - Scary about the stalking preist thing!! Pixie dust for the boss thing for Chad. Hope it all works out.

Renee - I haven't gotten into the all the time Christmas music yet but I might after this weekends trip (NASCAR race and the Florida Keys for our anniversary) I did however put up my Christmas house village this past weekend so the house is starting to look a lot like Christmas (with a little Thanksgiving mixed in!! LOL) So :thumbsup2 to you DD and the Christmas music.

Jen in GA - Congrats on winning - it doesn't matter how many were in the group you still had a GREAT time.

Leana - Great time on your 8!! Good luck on the 4 today - I have one question though - how do you run when you have to go back to work?? I know its on your lunch break but then aren't you stinky??? :confused3 (hope that doesn't come out sounding rude - its just that I would like to do that on my break but I don't have anywhere to shower off and the people around me would  if I did that!! LOL)

Craig and WWDave I forgot to mention that my short term goal is just to get my muscle fibers to twitch (especially the ones in and around the hips). Fast or slow, I am an equal opportunity twitcher recipient.

Hi Ruth! (did I get that right?)

I met you on the bus back to POR, right? I'm walking the Donald also, what's your pace? (that sounds funny) Maybe we can walk together for some of it!
