Wk Of Nov 11 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey all... I had to opt out of my TM run tonight and did a 50 minute work out video instead. My right foot is sore. You see, I wear the same shoes I always have, but this time in a different color. Ever since I have started wearing this pair, the right one has been bothering me where the laces tie at the ankle. On my 14 miler, at mile 12 I couldn't stand the pain anymore and I pulled out one hole and retied. But I have a bruise there, where the tendons are. I have never had this problem in my other pairs. I have about 60 miles on these shoes and the shorter distances haven't bothered me, but this long one did. UGHHHHH... So I am resting it and will try to lace them different to see if that helps. Otherwise it's off to the store.... except now I have to get the new model that came out.

Jen-GA - ROCK ON with the 5K pace. You are way super speedy!!!!!

SWDave/Cam - I have been doing the crunches again for the last couple of weeks. It's amazing how doing them regularily makes you feel. I do a bunch of other things also like pushups and reverse crunches. All things I am doing in Bootcamp (which I love!!)

Oh and speaking of Football... How about them Packers (AGAIN!!). They smoked the Vikings! My DD's school had a Packer Party Fundraiser so tons of people watched the game on a projection wall in their school gym. It was great fun!!!

PandaDave - love the new terminology!

DreamBeliever - Welcome!

Jen in GA - Congrats on your victory! Doesn't matter how many people were there, you did great!

Meghan - Good luck. I hope everything works out for you!:wizard:

MSDave - we must have been thinking alike. I've been talking about doing the ab work and finally just got started. I'm doing the "Cam Crunches" too!

MelR - congrats to you and DH on your finish!

Leanna - at least you got the steps in. Even a less than ideal workout has some benefit.

Christa - great job on your 20 (and the .3). I can only dream of yunning that fast. :)

Well, I ended up having to flip flop my training days. Today was to be 8 miles, but I'll do it tomorrow instead. I had to work my pt job today; my Mom is still sick, so taking care of her; the dog had to go to the Vet for a follow-up to some issues. The prognosis: she's old. No kidding:rolleyes: For that I paid almost $300 in the last month? Ok, she did get some medicine for a thyroid problem and arthritis, but they basically said there's nothing really to do. She's not in any pain. She just doesn't have a lot of energy and sleeps alot. Her eyesight and hearing are bad and she has arthritis in her legs. By the time I got home, it was too dark to run outside. So I did the crunches, rode my exercise bike and called it a day. The 8 miles will come early tomorrow, before my Mom or the dog wake up.

A question for you Dancing With the Stars fans. I watch the show when I'm home and I enjoy it. But I think they are changing the initial premise of the show. IIRC, it was originally to pair celebrities with no dancing skills with pro dancers to turn them into ballroom dancers. But now it seems that 1/2 the contestants have previous dance experience. I mean, your have Sabrina from the Cheetah Girls and MelB from Spice Girls; before it was Joey Lawrence and the guy from N Sync. It almost doesn't seem fair to pair these "dancers" against Jerry Springer, Mark Cuban, etc. I think that's why I was happy Emmit Smith won (even if he was a Cowboy;) ) last year (or 2 years ago?).
What do you think?

Terri

Hey all, just saying hi. Did 5 miles this morning, knee is happy again - yes, princess momma it is the kneecap going out of alignment, it just seems to track strangely which then causes pain right by the little dip on the outer side - any advice? If I can get it back into place it's fine, but it doesn't seem to want to go at the moment.

It finally clicked back in about 11.30pm, some friends of ours run a Britpop night which was this Saturday but everything ached and I was shattered so I was just limping my way down the steps when it went back into place and the pain stopped - of course then I wanted to go back in and dancing, thankfully Tim steered me away from the door as it was aching all the next day too!!

Otherwise all is good here but is anyone else soooooo looking forward to the drop back runs this weeked, I'm almost giddy with glee that 'all' I have to do is 6 miles on Sat and 12 on Sun. Helen

After my 45 minutes yesterday, the PF is slightly sore today so I guess the orthotics are working. Wish I could get by without them but so far, nothing else has worked so I guess I have to go this direction. :confused3 I made it 5.03 miles in 45 minutes. Not bad but I have definitely lost a lot during this gimp phase. Darned Garmin keeps me honest. :scared: Today is 60 minutes and I would like to make it over 6 miles but since I am running on hills today, we will have to see how it goes. I am getting pretty good at power walking but only about a 14 mpm pace...nowhere near the Great Panda's pace. I have had thoughts of Goofy in 09, running the half and run/walking the full. Am I being too ambitious? :upsidedow Okay....am I being goofy??????;)

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I ran yesterday, and had a great run. I think I did about 3.5 miles. My Garmin didn't get a signal until late. However, my goal was to do a hill workout so I wasn't so concerned about distance. I ran a really hilly course outside, and did 2x repeats on the big steep hill on the course. I felt great. I'm going to try to increase the number of hill repeats as time goes on.

My stomach really hurts from those situps. I may need to take a break from them today.

I walked into our breakroom and proclaimed "90% of the world is STUPID!" My coworkers looked at me and sheepishly asked if they were in the other 10% or the 90%. I chose not to answer.
:lmao:

I did my 3.5 miles last night. I skipped my running intervals after the first two miles since I felt my asthma kicking in. I think that even though I was on the indoor track (which is not heated), the cool air was getting to my lungs. I decided to not run, but still get the miles in. Man, are my toes bothering me this morning though! Usually that only happens when I get above 7 miles or so. Weird.

Today is 2 miles or xt. I am going to xt and give the toes a break.

OT - Chad called his boss' bluff yesterday. Basically, his boss said he just wanted to hear Chad say he could work any shift. And he would be 'sensitive' to our situation with Zack at home and try not to use him when I am working. I am going to hope for the best, but this man likes to play his little power game, so we'll see. So, for now things are ok in the job dept. I am still going to start looking for something mother's hours or even in the school system. I think it's time one of us had a "regular" schedule.

Kristi: Glad to hear things semi worked out with the job thing. Something you may want to consider is what I do. I work at home doing medical transcription. I get to set my hours which I work 5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every day for a total 7 hours (lunch does not count) and then I work 4 hours on Sunday mornings. You have to commit to 40 hours a week to get bennies from most of the at home companies just as a FYI. There are some that will even work you during training. The pay is dependent on your experience but I make enough to pay for trips and the extras in life. Just a thought for you. The flexible schedule is the seller for me, I have a DD13 and DS6 so I hear your pain and agony!! Good luck!!!

Kristi—it’s good to hear that things may be ok with the job situation. I’m sure that’s been tough on you guys.. Hope it continues to get better.

Nothing crazy training wise for me. Did an hour on the bike (indoors :sad2: ) last night and plan to get a 5 mile run in at lunch today. I’ve decided I need to start re-using my lunch hour to do something productive workout-wise. I haven’t run during lunch in a long time and I’m not sure why, as it is the perfect hour to knock out a good workout. I’m going to have to sneak out, though, since there’s this guy in my department who runs about once a year and every time I talk about running, he tells me we’ll have to run together at lunch sometime. We’ll see how today goes.

Have a great Tuesday, everyone!

Steve

Hi Everyone!

Lots of good reports on all those weekend runs!
Way to go WISH team! :woohoo:

and Jen in Ga - years from now, noone else will know that there were only two in your age group. ENJOY. Be proud, be happy, and enjoy.

Take Care all!
Cecilia

Good morning everyone and thank you for the warm welcome  I'm so glad I found this thread ~ you all so inspiring.

I did a 50 minute class yesterday afternoon and felt completely inadequate. However, I'm not going to let that stop me from taking more classes so I be more coordinated. Today I feel great and looking forward to walking a few miles on this beautiful fall day.

Stacey ~ how, what a memory :thumbsup2 I was hoping we would cross paths again. I would love a Donald buddy since I'm walking alone. I'll be staying at the POFQ with disnutt/Kiena, where are you staying?

Have a great day ~ Ruth

DreamBeliever: Never feel inadequate starting a class. That is called the "learning curve"!!

Dreambeliever - I started taking a BootCamp class at the Y last month and it kicks my butt. And boy did I feel dumb walking in and being the only chubby one. But I have kept up with it and now don't feel bad at all. There are always newbies in those classes, so don't feel inadequate!

So, haven't done anything today yet. Going to try to do 5 miles on the TM later. I did get a new running jacket in a package yesterday. I'm totally wearing it now- I am such a dork. (OK, actually I got two running jackets and a pair of pants- but they were on sale and I needed them for Goofy, right?!:rolleyes1 )

Anyone else STARVING!? I'm not sure if there was a moment yesterday when I wasn't eating or thinking about eating... I'm trying to keep my choices reasonably healthy, but holy appetite! :scared1:

Jackie- 90% of the world is stupid? That figure may be a little low...;)

Craig- aren't you the math professor!? I couldn't run with you- I'd have to tell you about how I took a drop slip to my calculus professor the second day of class and told her it just wasn't working for me...:rolleyes1 Thanks for the speed advice!

Jen117- a bruise on your foot!? OW!! So sorry. I hate when good shoes go bad! Hope you can make them work or get them out of your life.

PrincessRunner- first, ouch on the PF. BTDT, still ice my heels at least twice a week because I'm so afraid of it! As far as going Goofy, GO FOR IT! (says the girl who is thinking about retiring to just halfs after this first attempt...)

Terri- I am totally with you on DWTS. I don't think it's fair to put someone who's never danced up against someone from a boy band or Spice Girls or whatever. We've all seen the cheesy videos- they may not know the "real" dance steps, but they have performed. (Although for some reason, I don't hold that against Marie even though she's certainly a performer...)

Helen- I rigged my schedule so I think I have to do 8/18 this weekend. I'm already thinking if I can just get past this weekend, the next is 8/13- so I'm with you, acting like 13 is no big deal! It will probably hurt more than the 18 because I'm so happy it's a "low" number...seriously, this is crazy stuff...

Dave- just when I was thinking about the Cam Crunches, you admitted that they hurt! I suspected they might hurt me too... :rolleyes1

Steve- good luck sneaking out! My only problem working out at lunch is that I bring my lunch with me to the office and I eat it around 10:30 a.m. I actually pack an extra half sandwich to get me through the early munchies now.

Kristi- my DH and I work together. It's nice because I have fairly flexible hours, but I hate that when it gets busy we're scrambling around to get the kiddos! Can't imagine what it would be like to throw in a psycho boss!

Cecilia- Thanks!

DreamBeliever- I totally snuck out of the gym the other day to avoid a class one of my friends was teaching. I told her I wasn't coordinated enough, but I really didn't want to have to prove it!

OK, have to stop playing so I can get through the mess in front of me!

Jen in GA

Greetings all -

I guess laying on the floor in the living room, panting and moaning while watching someone else on TV do ab work doesn't really count as XT, does it? HOLY COW! I can't even make it thru the entire basic for wimpy beginners video! :headache: I must be a medical phenomenon! I HAVE NO AB MUSCLES! Fortunately I did do 20 min on the TM so this morning wasn't a complete "waist". Well, I'll just keep at it. That's all.

Long Walking Panda - Thank you for your kind words regarding my place of employment. With any luck it will burn to the ground today. Although that will greatly interfere with my DISing. BTW, what was the outcome of the "marker incident"? I thought of that while I was my eye doctor Saturday. I have been wearing glasses for about eight years while at work but now I have to get progressive lenses, as apparently I have trouble reading fine print, which was news to me. Just yet another joy of middle age.

Lily - That sounds like it involves a large needle which scares the heck out of me, but I hope it works miracles for you. :scared:

Hey! It's The Evil Queen! :wave2: Hi Christa! It's OK when you have a case of VTO! But don't leave us for too long!

Jackie - Hey, you're doing good there if it's only 90%. I can't do the math in my head but if we have 3500 people working at this site and 3498 are idiots, what is that percentage? :headache:

Jen - I guess that's what you get or wearing running shoes of a different color! :lmao:

Kristi - Line Chad's boss up for SlapFest 2007. You know what his REAL problem is, don't you? Yeah, EXACTLY! :headache: I thought I heard some Goo news this morning. Did they have a new CD come out today? Sorry about your toes. Good that you are resting them today. Still no volunteer news, eh?

Yes Jen, I'm always hungry. Dieting is very hard for me, I feel like I'm starving if I'm late for a meal. If I could just learn that I don't have to eat till I'm full, I'd be ok.

Did you know that most people are dehydrated? Hydrated people weigh more so your weight can flex up and down depending on how much water you drink the day before. But a hydrated person is a healthy person.

Ruth are you walking the January events? We have several other walkers on the WISH Team.

Today is rest day for Erica and I so we will just do errands and fix the shower door that DD21 broke yesterday. The screw came out of the shower door in her bathroom and she was trying to screw it back in and the screw fell down the drain.

So Bill has fibers that just twitch? He was a rebel even as a baby:

The Queen has been awefully quiet lately, did she get arrested after all?

Who has the bail money? Is there a lawyer in the house? Looks like Judy and I were posting at the same time, weird, so I guess she is still walking around free.

Ok scampering off now.

Resting Panda:hippie:

Welcome Dream Believer. I'm a newbee too. This is my 2nd week with the group.

Speaking of second weeks - I am on week 2 of the 5K program and while I didn't do bad for my first time of 90 sec. jogging 2 min . walking, I didn't quite make the last few jogging segments. I'm not going to move up to the next week until I get this one right.

I also started some strength training this week and I'm a little sore but not too sore to function. I plan on dusting off the YOGA DVD this evening. Hopefully it will loosen me up some.

Talk to you all soon.

Sabrina

Hi team. I can't believe we're already on page 7. I have a lot of reading to do. But first, can I solicit some advice? It's a question whether to train or not to train.

I feel awful, but since I don't have a fever, I managed to go to work yesterday and today. I muddle through for about 6 hours, then leave early and play couch potato.

Headache, sore throat, chest congestion, cough, and stuffy nose. Just your basic crummy cold.

I should do a 5 mile SW today. (First training day since feeling bad.)

Part of me says I should suck it up and do the walk. (No pain no gain; it's just a cold.) Part of me says to just rest.

I've never been in this spot before so I don't know what the experts would advise. Does anyone else know?

Thanks.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! No, I mean I did just have a cough/cold thing! What I did is not too much on the days I was really coughing. But I did do a few miles and didn't feel too bad. Maybe you could knock down the miles for today and see how you feel. JMTCW!

Great run today --- I am one day off, had to do my 8 miles today, did it in 59:50 - which is a decent clip for me ... Hope y'all had a good day ...:cool1:

Kelley - I'm sorry you're not feeling well. :wizard: I think there is some advice about if it's above the neck do it, but below the neck, don't. Something like that. Maybe someone else knows it better. But if you have chest congestion, I'd have to say if it was me, I wouldn't.
