Wk of Mar 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

I finally got the first two coats of paint on the nursery on Friday. I am waiting for the final inspection from Lynnda to find out if it needs one more or not. Hopefully it will be sunny out so it can be a little easier to see how it looks.

Sunday was the half marathon, with the report on the other thread. Taking the time off from running to help my calf didn't seem to hurt anything which I was afraid of. After the race, we stopped by Busch Gardens on the way back home. Then Lynnda got the wonderful idea to have me run after Billy in the kids area. :rolleyes1 My legs were definately sore afterwards and I think the motivation was to make me slow down walking in the park.

Anne - hope your mom feels better soon and it isn't too bad.

Jim - Hope you can find some races but it is almost getting too hot to get good runs in down here.

Mike - That was a great pace. I have been known to look at the wrong part of the screen and be totally off on the times as well.

Kristi - Glad you got out for your run. The times look great.

Cecilia - Good to hear you are feeling better. It was good that you were out supporting the runners. I saw several homeowners out cheering for us yesterday.

Stephanie - Great job on the marathon. That is a great time. :thumbsup2

Christa - Sounds like some interesting weather. Maybe you just need to run backwards so it could have been a tail wind instead. ;)

Angie - Sorry you didn't make it to Sarasota but it looks like you had a great time at the Disney one.

Welcome DaddyBeast!!!!!! Glad you finally made it Kevin! Excuse me while I try to figure out how the heck anyone can "coast" a full marathon. :faint: Guess that means I'm not ready for the Goofy! ;)

Gotta' get back to work and then catch up on race reports later.

Way to go for everyone who put the steps in tehis weekend. (I did not. Dh and I just could not get ourselves to TM 5 miles. :( ) We'll be hititng them tonight fro 40 min. I am really gettign sic of snow. Got about 6" Friday night and Saturday. DId I mention it will be 4 below tomorrow? :cold:

I started running again this week, and DW (TXBelle) says I should post something here. I hit 163 for the first time in many years, but I had stopped running. I am going to try to get down to 155 and see if I can go faster! my new goal is to run the 1/2 at top speed next year and then coast on the full.

Did anybody else download Fergilicious to their Ipod after Disney this year?

:welcome: honey! Thanks for joining us! Now just jump right in and start posting.:love2:

lol. Your smilie at teh end reminded me of teh half this year. When Kevin stopped to give you a kiss. The woman next to me turned ot her friend and said, "Igues hee's not worried about this time." :rotfl:

Just a quick question:

Does anyone have any recommendations on hydration belts, etc?

I'm looking for something light and unobtrusive. I'm not a big drinker when I run but should probably start doing a better job since in theory it is supposed to start getting warmer (not this week though).

Thanks for any input.

Mike--I like my Amphipod. I have the belt with one large bottle that fits in the curve in your lower back. It also has a small zipper pocket for Gu, keys, etc. Only prob. I have with it, is one bottle only last me 9-13 miles. Yesterday, DH followed me around the course to exchange bottles for me. I have a total of 3.

OptiMike - We like our amphipod. It carries 8 oz bottles, but you can get 6 oz. I don't thin kany of the belts are particularly heavy, but the water can be. ;)

is that you juts get further behind:confused3

I've been skimming but life's a blur right now. So I won't try to make all the replies I'd like.

Christa-- I loved the gym teacher letter. All of us "Adult Onset Athletes" should send one of those out!

Kristi-- Your splits don't look too weird. I started having trouble with my 201, it would give me splits like 19:00 followed by 7:20 when I knew I was running failry constant throughout. That's why I had to get a 205:thumbsup2

Speaking of which, I got outside Sat and Sun to use my 205. Definitely Two:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 . First, sat. aquisition is lightening fast (no more SoL poses for me, even if I didn't use the astute WISHers advice to set it on the window). No loss of signal on either run.

Last week was almost perfect for Week 6 HH. I only missed cx.
Runs:
TM 5 miles all 1% except 1 mile at 2%, avg pace 12:00
TM 3 miles all 1% avg pace 10:40
TM 6 miles HILL WORK:faint:
mile 1 3% @ 5.0mph
mile 2 2% @ 5.2mph
mile 3 1% @ 5.5mph
mile 4 3% @ 5.5mph
mile 5 1% @ 5.6mph
mile 6 1% varying speeds
avg pace = 11:02

LR: 10.25mile (plan called for 9 but I guessed at loop)
conditions: HORRIBLE! 26degF, ice EVERYWHERE, running in the middle of the road, and since when does everyone with a DL and car head out at 7AM on a Saturday morning?????? Stopped for coffee at 8.75, included in pace: 13:26
Sun 3miles outdoors.
This time I waited for the ice to melt. No big advantage. Running in run-off with my right side all the way to the shoulder drenched in mud from car splashes.:furious:

But I don't regret getting off of the dreaded TM!

Today I did 7 miles on teh TM, straight 1% avg pace 11:00.

I'm really feeling the pressure of trying to work in the workouts. All of the sudden the lab decided I should earn my keep:confused3 What's up with that? I actually brought home a laptop this weekend. Perish the thought!

Neurontin is working. I took DS bowling this weekend and I bowled! I've been taking him for the past few weeks, but I usually just watch.

And interesting tidbit: I stopped for coffee on both outdoor runs. I made my coffee drinking walk a lap. Both were exactly .4 miles at 16:10/16:20 mpm! Now I have a new PR to work on:lmao: Drinking hot coffee at 15mpm!!!

If you've never taken a coffee break during a run, I highly recommend it;) Escpecially if the temp is below 32degF.

Sunny

Can I piggyback on Mike's question?

Those of y'all who carry a camera with you while running - how do you do that? Do you get a belt with a bag for the camera? I saw that one of the amphipods has a case that looks like it might work for that.

I'm not planning on always running with a camera, but I know there will be some races where I'll definitely want it.

TXAng - Our amphipod belt came with a small pouch that fits my camera perfectly. My camera is pretty darn small, though. I put it right on my hip, so it's very easy to get to.

Sorry folks but I have never run with a camera and have no suggestions. I just dropped by for a quick post because I have to get DD and DS ready for their first ever track practice today. Got out in the wind and ran 10.6 this morning - took the day off from work today - with the intent of concentrating on HR never going over 150. Managed to keep HR down except for the 4 tough hills on the course I was running so I walked them but still managed to cover the entire course in 1:33. I think it would have been a lot faster if not for the 20 to 40 MPH winds that could not make up thier mind what direction to hit me from. I may be adding on some miles later this evening if I need to run with DD, DS and team at their first CYO track practice. I will be coaching and probably (if we do not get blown off the track) leading a group of runners on a short first run.

Well the 8 to 14-year-old kids had me add an additional 3+ miles as I was the coach to lead the "long run" groups. We have 3 groups and each group ran a full mile with one break at the half way point plus we did a couple of laps on the track for warm up. There was one 10 or 11-year-old up front - and because I was the lead coach I had to stay with him - who pulled off a 6:40 mile. Awesome job. This brings my total mileage for today to more than 15.

I have to agree, I have an amphipod belt and I love it. I haven't tried to bring a camera along, but a small one would probably fit in the pocket on hte belt. My amphipod has four small bottles attached. I haven't used it very many times, but the few times I have used it, I have liked it. I just have to get used to taking the bottles of and and putting them back on, but I am getting it.

Another question: has anybody bought shirts from Cafe Press? I like alot of the walker/runner inspirational sayings & the WISH stuff, but don't know which style to buy. So many choices! Any suggestions?

I have not yet read beyond the first couple of posts. Just wanted to chime in on this before I forget -- I have bought many clothing items from cafepress including tee shirts and an apron. I LOVE the WISH inspired stuff that Sunny has designed and she even did some new stuff at my request for walkers. I just wish they would sell wicking tee shirts or tech material. Oh, and I've also bought a bunch of fridge magnets including the WISH team one and vehicle window decals -- "marathon -- the pain is temporary the pride is forever" and "26.2 a state of mind" as well as plain old "26.2". It is really fun shopping on that website. :thumbsup2

WooHoo--isn't it just fitting that the day after I complete my first marathon that DH and I get our postcards from Disney stating we are "officially" entered into the 2008 WDW Marathon!!!:cool1: We'll definitely be there WISH teammates!!!

Hi all!!

Mike-- I like my amphipod as well, although I will admit that I am less likely to use it as a water bottle and more likely to use it as a "gel carrier" since most of my running routes run past my house a few times, it makes getting water easy.

Sunny-- Goodness, you are putting me to shame with all this training! Great job!! :thumbsup2

Stephanie-- I posted on your other thread, but it bears repeating-- Way to Go!! :cool1:

TexAng-- When I ran the full in 2006, I wore a plain old belt back that I stuffed full of everything I thought I needed (and a whole bunch of stuff I didn't use), camera included. It was just a small disposible, but it fit just fine. (Not that I used it.... never took a single picture.)

I managed to hit the treadmill for about 4 miles this afternoon in a little under 40:00, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Come heck or high water I want to get back out on the roads tomorrow morning now that they are finally clear.

I had to LOL at myself this morning... I'm getting an early start on my Spring Cleaning since we are on Spring Break and I happened to find a brand-new, still in the box pair of running shoes. Not from my most recent purchase.... no.... these suckers are from October 2005 according to the receipt. It's sister pair are the ones I ran WDW in 06 in. So, I guess I won't need to purchase shoes for a while. (Which works out, since adidas redesigned my shoe recently and it is U-G-L-Y. What to do, what to do....)

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

I'm baaaack! Did you miss me?

New Orleans was a blast! I took a culinary history walking tour of the French Quarter and tasted pralines, jambalaya, canollis, muffaletta and a slow-cooked brisket--in just 3 hours. I also went on a Garden District walking tour which was a lot of fun too! The weather was magnificient and the people were wonderful. And the beignets were awesome!!

I wasn't able to do any training, but since I walked literally everywhere I think my legs got enough of a workout. Tomorrow I'm back at the training but I enjoyed a little time off.

To all those new to the boards: :welcome: you're gonna love this stuff.

To those who were lucky enough to run races over the weekend: :thumbsup2 Just running in a race is a great thing.

To those with injuries and illnesses: here's some pixiedust: to help you get better.

Thanks everyone for being there!

I have one, but I can't remember the brand name. I love it.

I'm sitting in a restaurant right now so I will check when I get home.

I do have a H2O belt I run with during LRs. It is a Speed II..I think by Nathan. It has 2 H2O bottles and a pouch to carry things in..Cell phone and gels. I am wearing it in this pic during my trail race where there were only 4 water stops.

For racing though, I normally don't carry H2O. They have it on the race course so I just drink what they have. I wear a # belt and have a pocket that attaches on that. I am wearing it in the pic below during the marathon...not sure if you can see it though.
