Wk of Mar 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Well I had a GREAT effort today. Martha and I met at the High School track for her speed day but it was busy with the track teams. We took off on the roads and she took me through 35 minutes of work, 2 easy minutes, then 2 tempo minutes at about 10 minutes per mile, maybe a bit quicker. She was strong each tempo interval and I was having to push it to stay with her.

We got back to the track and the kids were done, so I got on by myself and wanted to go just a bit faster than our tempo intervals. I hit the start, took off, and went through the first 1/4 mile in 2:04. Oops. Maybe we were well under 10 minutes per mile in our tempo work. I eased back the 2nd 1/4 and finished the half mile in 4:14. So maybe being around a bunch of fast people is having a positive effect on me. Now if I could just carry that pace for 26.22 miles I'd finish the full in 3:36. Sadly that won't happen, but what a nice dream.

It's so great to be outside. I need a lifestyle which allows me to live in the warm south in winter and the cooler north in summer. If anyone can get me a job which allows this I'd be glad to listen.

Take care

Craig

Craig -- that sounds like such an awesome workout! I thought studmuffins just stood around looking good! If you run that fast, how can we admire your studmuffinliness? :lmao:

As for me -- another stinky stay-at-work-late night with no sight of the sun today. Isn't that the pits? I promised myself if I got to work by 7:30 and worked through lunch, I could leave at 6 to run outside. TUrns out I left at almost 8, it was already too dark and I was too wiped out to go to the gym.

So glad to see how well everyone is doing! I got my 4.69 in on Saturday and the 5K was on Sunday, but nothing since then. It is very energizing to see how much training everyone is getting in, even if you are not training for a specific event. I am so thrilled that I have the Minnie then my 5 miler than Chicago to look forward to and to train for. It is getting me through the rough times.

Hello Everyone,
Kristi: I saw the GGD on Sesame Street yesterday singing to Elmo, have you seen that episode (the letter Y and # 14)?
:thumbsup2

Now, if I could only get that episode taped! ARGH!!!!
I have only seen this part on youtube. But it's awesome! :rotfl2:
"...you are furry, proud and red!"
(*must find entire episode somehow*)
I will turn all WISHers into fans one of these days.
I know! A WISH meet at their New Year's Eve show! ;)

Sorry, I have been MIA lately. Last night I (Got) The Party Started & then brought SexyBack. :woohoo: Today I was, ummm, "sick" and took Mom outlet shopping for her birthday. She was "sick" today too, by the way. I am exhausted from shopping & I am thinking that counts as some xt.

I have an echocardiogram tomorrow, but I am hoping to get my miles in before my appt. Oh, and for anyone following along with my crazy leg warmth thing...my ANA bloodwork came back abnormal. I could have told them that since it's come back abnormal in the past, but no one ever figures out why. Well, this time, new doctor is sending me to a rhematologist in Boston. So, that will be intertesting...

I think it is called migrant farm worker. Tough job. It would definitely count as cross training.

Good evening everyone.

Got out and ran 3.1 this evening and blazed a new trail through the neighborhood. Felt pretty good.

Mile 1 - 10:59
Mile 2 - 11:07
Mile 3 - 11:13

Craig - Glad the toe is getting better, and great job on the run. From one studmuffin to another, we're more than just a pretty face. :rolleyes1: :rotfl:

Mel - You're swell! :) Thanks for getting us the discount.

Laurie - Great job on your run.

BahamaMomma1 - :welcome:

Everyone - Have a great evening. :)

Kiena

Good point. I forgot that my father actually had that job in the very early 1950's. My dad grew up in Oklahoma during the depression and war years and lived, in polite terms, thhrough very difficult times. He told me as a young teen he worked the hay bailers as they went north with the harvest, starting in Texas and finishing in southern Canada. He was paid 1 penny a bail and he told me on a good day he could earn $10. Hard work, harder than anything I've done in my life. Every day I appreciate all he did to make it possible for me to end up where I am.

Cammie

I'm not good at standing still. When I don't have much to do I pace and am generally restless. I'll pass on any comments on the looking good part, but thanks for the positive waves.

Vic

More than a pretty face? I can honestly say I've never been told that one.

Craig

Mel--Why oh why didn't I check the board before I placed my runningwarehouse.com order today!!!! I just won't tell DH that I could've saved an additional 15%. Thanks in advance for hte next time I order from them!:thumbsup2

Oh, and if any ya'll ladies are running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS6, runningwarehouse.com has them for $59.95 (then subtract the WISH discount) with free 2nd day shipping. Ordered a new pair today!:cool1:

Carrie--Oh so excited about my shirt!!! Hope it comes before my vacation!!

Melissa--Love the race report--you guys are machines!!!

Craig--sounds like you and Martha had a great evening workout!

I know I've missed just about everyone--but I'm tired. Got 4.25 on the TM tonight--probably should've gone the other .75 but I work so much harder on the TM, I decided to stop! Have a great night all!

Hi everybody!

Haven't been on too much lately. I'll have to try to catch up with how everyone is doing.

I went for my check-up today. Dr. was very pleased with how achilles is healing. I still have to stay on the crutches for another 3 weeks :sad1: , but I can start putting a little more weight on my foot. I also get to start PT for the next month. Dr. thinks after PT, I can shed the crutches and brace  .

Still no running/walking yet, though. He told me when I do get the okay, I have to start out s-l-o-w. He said there's a chance it could rupture again, so build up the distance slowly to try to prevent that.

So, I'm trying to be patient and working on things at home that require me to sit (paperwork, studies, etc). At least I should be walking somewhat normally by the time the nice weather comes around.

Oh, by the way, if anyone is looking for a race in Philly, the Broad Street Run Ten Miler is just a month away! Flat course! Would love to see some WISH-ers there!

Terri

Dave - I run 4 days a week, Sun-Mon-Tue-Thurs (LR), rest on Wed, Sat - XT on Fri per Hal Higdon's novice marathon plan. Bunching 3 "shorter" runs (except now 1 of them is a 9-10 miler) isn't so bad and the light Fri-Sat seems to be plenty of recovery time.

Krista - Enchiladas - Yummmm ! What time did you say dinner was?

Cam - Did I miss your 5K race report?

OMG! You guys are eating small spoiled children???

Sheeze Judy, everyone knows you don't eat the spoiled ones. What'dya want, Salmonella poisoning or something?

I had a miserable run last evening! Took DD10 to piano lessons and ran in the teacher's neighborhood; twisty, narrow streets with no sidewalks. The only safe place to run is up and down her 0.3 mile street that has a hill at both ends. I felt like I was skateboarding in a half-pipe. Up one end, turn around, down, up again, turn around, down  . I was supposed to 5 miles but luckily DD came out just as I was coming up the hill at 4.27 miles.:yay: I'll call it a hill workout.

Add to that the fact that my shiny new Brooks Glycerin 5's have a seam at just the wrong spot and are giving me a blister on the side of my right foot :scared: . I'll be off to the running store to return/exchange them this morning. Too bad because I'm really loving them other than that one spot.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Another 30 min SWOG (deep water run) for me yesterday - my lower back/booty is feeling a little better. I'm supposed to have another training day with my princesses tonight, but we just found out that DD6's princess: kindergarten is having an open house. Got to figure out how to fit everything in.

Dave: Sorry to hear about your bum pain. Do you do chiropractic? It helps me a lot. Are you at the UofR? I went there once upon a time and used to cut through Mt. Hope Cemetary to get to a really good wing place. I had to transfer after my Freshman year because it was WAY too expensive for me.
Cindy
Hi Cindy- Yup, I'm a professor in the Medical School here at UofR. I do a lot of runs in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, and the hills kick my butt - literally this time.

Mike--you crack me up! That's funny because I think we can all relate to those "improvised" running venues when we just HAD to get a run in.

Craig--wow, Speedy! Nice job on the track. Did you bring your starting blocks for that fast workout?? I always thought it would be funny to bring the starting blocks to the corrals at a marathon and stand there, stretching and warming up with some sprints, all the while, crouching down into the blocks and practicing launching from them like you would do at a track meet in prep for the 100 meter finals. You may get a few strange looks. :)

Another busy day here, so I'll have to catch up with everyone later. Oh, and let me just tell you--Krista has been a whiz in the kitchen the past week. She's like a master chef, chopping and prepping food for the next night, setting the crock pot timer, etc. I usually took pride in the fact that I was able to find my way around the kitchen and cook meals one or two nights a week, but I haven't been able to get near the kitchen since last week. It would be like getting in the way of a well-oiled machine. :)

Have a great Wednesday, guys!

Steve

I did get a small walk in with DS yesterday and then followed that by an 8 mile bike ride around the neighborhood. I think today is going to be a semi-rest day.

The nursery has been deemed complete by the final inspector (pending the delivery of the dresser). I was able to get a few pictures before it is destroyed by little ones. I will try to post a couple tonight if I can remember.

Dave - Glad to hear the pain is getting better. Good luck with trying to schedule everything properly.

monte - Glad to hear the TM is fixed and for so cheap. Make sure that repairman doesn't talk to any plumbers or the price may go up a little. :lmao:

Cecilia - Hope your iPod is an easy fix. Although seeing how small they are, nothing is probably easy with it.:sad2: One water issue with a new house, when they are putting the drywall up, make sure they don't put a screw into the bathroom pipes. I have a plumber friend at work who says this is one of the biggest things he gets calls for in new houses. It takes about a year for the screw to rust away but afterwards things get messy very quickly.

Tiff - Good luck on cleaning the house. I think we just shift our mess around so it looks like we are doing something.

Krista - Ouch, hope your inserts feel better soon. We have a first name picked out and I have left the middle name up to Lynnda. I guess I will see the final answer when he is born.

Vic - First the plumber, now the AC. This is not a good week for your house. Although that does remind me that I have to go put some bleach in the drain pipe before I have to turn ours on. Good job on the run last night.

Leana - Enjoy the snow for me. It will be gone soon enough, although this is from someone who doesn't have to deal with it. :lmao:

Kiena - Hope the training went well at the Y.

Carrie - Thanks again for doing the shirts.

Judy - Sorry to hear about your friend. Here is hoping for some good news about him and your knee.:wizard:

Martha - Hope your phones are now working. We get so few calls, it would probably be a while before we figured out anything was wrong with them. :rolleyes1

Cindy - Great job on getting out for your run. Glad to hear that there is no pain.

Craig - Glad to hear the toe is getting better. Be careful they don't rebel after being mistreated once a year. ;) At this rate of training, you should be fairly close to that marathon time.

Laurie - Glad to hear the weather is finally getting better. Great job on the run, that is a great pace. I have a 301 and the HRM is pretty good. I would definitely recommend the 305 if you are going to want the monitor in the future anyway.

Kristen - Good job training when it was raining outside, even if it was on the TM. Hope the run yesterday went well.

Mel - Thanks for getting the discount. Although after looking and seeing too many things I want, I am not sure the bank account will be too thankful about it. :rolleyes1

Mike (GG) - Glad to hear you were still able to move. I still think those kids are out to get you.

Cam - Sorry to hear that you had to stay at work so long. But since you did extra yesterday, that means you should be able to get off earlier today. :rotfl:

Kristi - Hope your "sickness" is temporary and doesn't cause any long term problems. ;) Good luck with your appointment today and I hope they are able to give you some answers.

Stephanie - Good job on getting 4.25 miles in. That is a great distance and nothing to be ashamed about.

Terri - Great news about the foot. Hope the PT goes well and you are able to get back to running soon.

Mike (Optimator) - Sorry to hear the shoes don't work for you. That does sound like an interesting course though.

Time to get to work although the warm bed is probably a better option right now.

Bill

Good morning TEAM!! Happy Hump Day. I'm not looking forward to this afternoon, I have a dentist appointment. I have a wonderful dentist, but I still hate going. Hopefully I won't have any cavities and I won't have to go back for another 6 months. :wizard: I had a pretty good workout at the Community Center, not as good as Mike's (both Mike's--they are both rocking and rolling!!), but it was good for me :) I had a hair appointment at 6:30, since the Community Center is about a quarter mile from the salon, I stopped there to get some xt in. The only problem was traffic was horrendous last night and I didn't get to the Community Center until 5:45. I was planning on doing the stationary bike for 30 minutes and then lifting weights, but I had to cut my biking time to 20 minutes to get the weight lifting in. In 20 minutes I biked 4.75 miles with the resistance set at 3. I felt great about that! Especially since the guy next to me was barely pedaling, so it made me look like I was Lance Armstrong or something. I only had time to do a couple of weights, I did 2 reps of 10 on the leg extension and then 2 reps of 10 on the leg curl. Tonight I have a 4 miler, but it may be on the treadmill as it is raining here.

Craig--WOW!!! Nice speed work!! I wish I had the discipline to do that. Actually, I planned on speed work training for the Pig, but with my recent IT band issues, I figured I better not push the envelop. For Chicago, I'm definitely doing speed work. I want to be fast too!!

Bill--I bet the nursery looks awesome. What does Billy think about the baby? Is he excited? Or a little jealous? ;)

Mike/Optimator--That run sounds insane!!! I know how you feel, I do laps of my neighborhood and I get looks. I can get a 4 mile loop out of my neighborhood and the neighborhood we are connected to. During the short weekly runs, it's not bad, but the lr's--I get lots of waves from the people who see me 4 or 5 times. Sorry about your shoes. Good luck getting the right ones! :wizard: Dinner will be about 7:30. ;)

Dave--Have you looked into get a massage? The massage therapist could probably work out any kinks or soreness. Have fun at the Open House!!

Cam--Do you want to hear something funny? I was reading the thread last night, but I was watching American Idol at the same time, so I was only half paying attention to what I was reading. I had it in my mind that your post was Howard and I was trying to figure out why Howard was calling Craig a stud!!! It wasn't until this morning when I logged on and scrolled up to see what I missed when I realized it was you calling Craig a stud!!! You would think I would learn my lesson about scrolling!!!! :rolleyes1 I agree with Bill, take off early today!!! :)

Judy--I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Wow. Are you still training even though your knee hurts? Or does it not hurt? Either way, be careful!!! :wizard:

Kristi--Sounds like a fun day with your Mom. Hope you are both feeling better today! ;) ;) I'll be thinking about you today. :wizard:

Mike/GG--Be careful hanging with those kids!!!! They sound fast! That's why if I coached, I would do elementary kids, those are the only people I could beat. Them and senior citizens. Maybe. ;)

Laurie--Great run!!!! I drink a lot when I run in the summer too. During the winter, a 12 oz water bottle can last over 6 miles for me, in the summer that same water bottle lasts just under 5. Congrats on your shut-out. :cheer2:

Jen--How is the princess: today? Feeling any better?

Leana--Did you watch AI? What the heck was Sanjaya thinking? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Did you hear Gwen Stefani say that song was an extremely difficult song to sing?? I don't think she is a fan. :rotfl2: Are you shoveling out up there in the Great North?

Kristin--Good luck on your 5 miler. Although I guess you've already done it since it's almost 10:00 Wednesday morning for me so it's what Wednesday night for you? This whole international time change thing is messing me up!!

Mel--Thanks for setting up the discount! Not that I *need* anymore running stuff, but I love to buy it!! I am so glad we have this "free" sport!! :rotfl:

Carrie--I hope you are still resting, young lady!

Stephanie--How is the knee? Still pain-free? The TM is harder for me to, I think because I know at any time I can stop and go upstairs where as if I'm running outside I may be a mile or 2 from home so even if I want to stop, I have to get home somehow! Might as well run to make it home faster! :)

Martha--Great job giving Craig a run for his money!! ;)

I know I missed people, but I tried really hard. :) Since I have to leave early, I better start working. What a dumb idea!! :) :)

Sheeze Judy, everyone knows you don't eat the spoiled ones. What'dya want, Salmonella poisoning or something?
OMG!!! Good thing the person who normally sits right outside my office was not heard when I read this. I would have been sooo busted!!!!:lmao:

Cammie? How many nicknames do we have for you?

Studmuffins? :rotfl2: (Sorry, to laugh, but I think we need a bit of an ego reduction here. ;) )

hoosJen - Just taking the new nickname out for a test drive. :drive: FOrgive me for having nothing constructive to say. My brain's still not awake.

Are we in a taper I didn't know about? It's been a long time since I've gotten so many laughs. :teeth:

Leana--Did you watch AI? What the heck was Sanjaya thinking? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Did you hear Gwen Stefani say that song was an extremely difficult song to sing?? I don't think she is a fan. :rotfl2: Are you shoveling out up there in the Great North?

Krista - Seriously that was painful last night. I'm not sure what was more painful, listening to him, or having to look at that hair. It was soooo bad! I'm willing to bet he sticks around tonight though. I'm thinking Chris R, Chris S or Haley will go. By the way, congrats on getting your dinners sorted out, it all sounds yummy!

It snowed all day yesterday and stopped just as I was heading home from work. Despite the amount of snow that fell I guess it was just warm enough that none of it actually stuck to the streets. Tomorrow and Friday we are supposed to be in the low 50s so at least we are warming up for a few days now. Maybe I'll get a chance to break the running skirt out again on Thursday for my 3 miler.:cutie:

Did 30 minutes of upper body weights last night. Tonight I'm aiming for a lower body workout and possibly some ab work if I feel ambitious enough! Tonight I'm cooking chicken in a tomato sauce with zucchini rice...hope it tastes good!

Hey all you Studmuffins and Studettes.

Yes, spoiled children might make you a bit queasy.

So anyhooo, DD6 went to daycare today (it's spring break here). We ended up taking her to the doctor last night. She fell asleep on the couch and woke up screaming that her head hurt bad. Her temp was back up to 102. The doctor tested her for Strep and the Flu, she had neither thankfully. So we dosed her up on tylenol and cough suckers. She felt better this morning, her sinuses were really stuffed which is most likely causing the headache. But temp was down.

I did 35 minutes on the TM yesterday. I was our last beautiful day and today we are cold and rainy. Will mostly like be that way through the weekend. But with a sick child, all I could do was the TM... but I got the steps in!

Krista, You will have to let us know if you tried any recipes. Give us a review.

Dave, hope that booty pain goes away soon.

Vic, Those are some great times.

Bill, Congrats on getting the room done.

Terri, glad you are healing. I hope you are able to walk soon.

OK, I am swamped at work...

Hi TEAM! Yesterday my friend and I took a "muscle madness" class, which works your entire body and boy am I sore today. I love this kind of soreness. Today I'm going to use my repaired tm and try to walk for an hour. Hope everyone has a good training day!:goodvibes

Bill--I bet the nursery looks awesome. What does Billy think about the baby? Is he excited? Or a little jealous? ;)

It depends on when you ask him. There are times when he is excited and then there are times he won't acknowledge it. However, he isn't too excited about the fact all his old toys are in the nursery now. I think he spends as much time in there playing as he does in his room now.
