Wk of Mar 12--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Do any of you have suggestions for training plans? I have looked at coolrunning.com, but their plans all require you to run 5 days a week. I remember alot of you said that you only run every other day. Do you have any training plans that allow you to do that?

 Forgive me Wishers, for I have sinned. So far today, I have had a corn dog, a German Chocolate pretzel (awesome), ribbon fries, kettle corn, and 1/2 a funnel cake. :sad2: I see an extra long work out in my future.

Dana-- :grouphug: :grouphug: for you and your family. I can't imagine what you are going through. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers through this very difficult time. Keep us posted as to what is going on.

Cam--Very cute outfit. I love red too. How is your knee feeling?

Amy--Stephen's gonna be mad at you for giving me more shopping opportunities!!! ;) I'm glad your little one doesn't have bronchitis.

Judy--I really wouldn't worry about doing 13.1 miles before the half. It won't hurt you if do the distance, but it may not necessarily help you either. My longest run for the half was 10 miles and I didn't have any problems--physical or mental with completing the distance. However, that is just my opinion--I am definitely NOT an expert in the matter.

Break time over, back to work.

AmyBeth -- cute stuff! Can't wait to take a look. I realized this week I am in the smallest size offered by junonia and hoping none of it will fit in the next 4-6 weeks. Am looking forward to finding a new source. Still can't believe I fit into XL New Balance and maybe even shop in the stores now in the normal sizes. Even if I won't be seen in public in this stuff yet, I can still enjoy the fact that it fits. :cool1:

BTW, just got word our dioscese newspaper is doing a feature story on DS12's play (in which he has 2nd billing!) and will take a photo of the principals next week, to hopefully run with the story! I may have something to share with all of you when it comes out! Sorry in advance! :teeth:

Dana - my heart goes out to you for all your family has been through. You are amazing for supporting your nephew in this way, and it is too bad that it came at a cost to your family - son and mother. I'm sure with love and support your will be able to get through this really difficult time.

Cam - you are also an amazing mother. That story about your DD and the internet just scared the heck out of me. Wow, I am not looking forward to the teen years for my princesses...

I had a rest day yesterday, and I'm off to the gym now.

Krista -- Thanks for asking about my knee. No symptoms now, but I haven't done a LW since Saturday. OF course, wearing heels the past 4 days is probably not the best idea, but I'm just glad I'd forgotten about the pain.

Judy -- I know what a lot of people say about not needing to do the distance before the event and I believe even John Bingham says that, but I, like you, had the same uncertainties. 10 miles was my longest walk before the half, I think! I have to tell you, I wish I'd gone to the 13 once before the half. Rhonda kept reminding me that I could do this, that I'd done these miles before, all the way up to ten. The rest of it is a blur, but for anyone who wants to tell you "it's just a 5K to go now. You've done a 5K. Come on, just 3.1 miles" when you get to 10 -- all I can say is "UGH!"

That being said, it took a heck of a lot for me to get to the point where I could do ten. I'm not sure I could have fit more into my schedule to get me to 11. When I am putting my training for the full on my calendar, I am going to go some distance beyond what the training plan calls for. That is just me. It is a psychological thing for me. I have to do at least one training session that takes me within a 5K of finishing the full. That probably means blocking out 6-7 hours on a Saturday in December to get in 24 miles at the required pace. That is my plan at this point. I am intimidated as heck at the prospect, but I am hoping I will psych myself into it by that point.

Dena -- You should check out the Marathoning for Mortals training schedules. I think they have you doing shorter sessions a couple days a week and a long session on Saturdays. I hope you find a schedule that works for you. It's amazing how much you will come to look forward to doing that.

Thanks Cam. I don't know about physically but MENTALLY I need to do it at least once. If for no other reason then to be able to say as I stand in my corral that I KNOW I can do this because I've done it before. I think I will do it in Sept. There is a quiet road behind our house that's maybe 5 miles long. I'll put on my Garmin and just go back and forth a couple of times.

Dana - sorry to hear about the family troubles. We're going through issues with my niece. She's been away for about 4 months trying to work through anger issues. It got so bad she couldn't stay at home anymore. She was causing so much turmoil and fighting with every member of the household. :grouphug: for you and your family.

Mel - My legs are feeling fine now. Thanks for asking. Just my motivation that needs work.

Honeibee - I did Goofy this year and had never done either distance before. The most I got up to was 11 miles. It was tough and wish I would have done some more distance (especially to get ready for the marathon), but I gutted it out and finished. :)

Dawn - Great job on your walk! :cool1:

AmyBeth
- I've gotten the T9 catalog a few times. I like a lot of their styles. Unfortunately, nothing they carry comes in a size big enough for me. :sad2:

As far as Idol goes, I like Chris, Lisa and Mandisa the best. I don't know how Kevin has lasted this long. It always seems to be like his voice is vibrating when he sings. Yuch!

So, does anybody else take notes when reading this thread? It's the only way I can remember which post I wanted to respond to? :teeth:

Terri

No, Terri, I don't take notes but I'm a cheater. I have the Boards up on my browser so I read the thread then toggle over to my email account when I want to respond to someone, then when I am done reading all the new posts, I just cut and paste it on a reply. :thumbsup2

Certainly can't expect my old brain to remember everything now can ya!!?!?! :lmao:

Terri - Where did she go? I am awaiting a phone call from his therapist so that I can talk to him about an inpatient facility. I have gotten DH to put a hold on calling the judge. I think that if we can get him into a facility that we have to try that first. I think that his therapist has had the wool pulled over his eye if you know what I mean. When I explained how he hurt the poor dog, how he still wets the bed, the constant lying, constant fighting about the smalles things, and what he did to my son, his therapist reacted like he didn't think it was THAT big of a deal. Hopefully, he'll understand that there are only two options left, and that if he doesn't help us get him help that we will be left with no other choice but to call the judge.

I don't take notes either. I write all my replies on Notepad, then copy and paste my replies when I'm done!!

Is that a GPS or a pedometer? I have a gps. Have not learned how to use it. Would like a nice funtioning pedometer.

Greetings Everyone: I had another good workout today. I did 30 min on the treadmill and finished 2.5 miles. My first mile was 11:49 mpm pace and my second mile was 10:49 mpm pace. It was 30 min total with the warm up and cool down laps. I felt great!

I'm a cheater too! ::yes:: I open up two Explorer windows. Read the thread on one, and compose my reply on the other. That way I can cut and paste quotes in and stuff.

Dana - here's some more hugs for everything you are going through. How old is your nephew anyhow?

He is 15 yrs old. The therapist never called me back today so I am hoping to hear from him tomorrow. I wanted to thank everyone for all of your :grouphug: , goodness knows we need em about now.

Dana

Dana - wow, that is so much to have to deal with right now. I can imagine the fits of a 15 yo boy could get very, very scary. My position is a researcher in a psychiatry department. I am by no means a clinician, but it sounds like to me he does really need some serious professional help. I hope you get it as soon as possible. More :grouphug: :grouphug:

OK, this is a dramatic change of subject. I just heard on the radio while I was cleaning up from dinner that Robert C. Baker, Inventor of the Chicken Nugget, died. OK, I'm not a big chicken nugget fan, but I also discovered that he was the inventor of a special BBQ sauce that is widely used here in Upstate NY. Before we moved to Rochester last year, we vacationed on the finger lakes (Keuka Lake) for the past 10 years. My wife's grandmother (who is still alive and well at 97 in Ithaca, NY) had a cottage on Keuka Lake for almost 50 years. Anyhow, we would traditionally fix this BBQ chicken that our family has lovingly called Keuka Chicken. Give it a try - it's very, very good.

Hey all... I was at a conference all day, so didn't have time to check in, or do much else. BUT, when I went to pick up my girls from daycare at the Y (girl that is, one is home sick), they finally had the registration info for the 5K that I want to do. It is May 6, and will be my first timed race EVER! I am so excited to finish it without dying!

So I am going to sign up and hope to actually finish this in under 45 minutes. How did everyone else do on their first ever timed run and how long was it??

Kim: You CAN do this! I'm only on day 33 since I decided to start running and signed up for the Minnie, so I'm right there with you.

Dana: More :grouphug: I'm not a real fan of the phrase "tough love," but sometimes that's what it takes. You have to do what's best for the entire family, and look out for your mom and your son. Good luck.

Cam: DD thinks I'm crazy. I went to her last night before bedtime, gave her a big hug, told her I loved her, and thanked her for being a good kid.

Melissa: Congrats on staying on the bike!

Terri: Yes, I take notes the old-fashioned way. But now I have lots of new ideas for doing it the high-tech way!

Lizdotcom99: Poor Barkley! I'm glad Mystic had an easier time with her shots - she's back to her old self today.

Mel: Wish I could say DD's soccer game went well, but she's playing JV at school and her team is awful! They've played 4 games, and haven't scored yet (and have had 29 goals scored against them, I think?)

Taking a night off from everything except being lazy. Think I've been trying to do too much and not letting my body and mind recover (and grieve), so tonight's very low-key. Hope to get a really good run in tomorrow or Sat!

Jackie

WOW!
Keeping up with all this is a full time job LOL!

Since I have to pack for a business trip I don't have a lot of time to post, but someone asked about everyother day training. I am doing a plan I found on Hal Higdon's website (15K for Novice) that has running every other day. I just googled 15K training plan!

Dana, sorry to here about the problems. I have a cousin with mental issues that lead to violence and it's very tough!

I hit the Y tonight.... Did my 3 miles on the TM. My time is around 43 minutes so I am nothing if not SLOW! LOL!

Didn't get in a run/wog yesterday since I had to go to my grandmothers to take her out to dinner (its a weekly thing) and then I didn't end up getting my run/wog in today either. I had to ice cupcakes for a bday at work so I was going to do it after work but my DH called about an hour after I got to work to let me know something was seriously wrong with my one cat. So I grabbed my purse and flew home, I picked her up (she was gasping for breath) and we headed to the vet but didn't make it in time and she died in my arms. I have been upset the whole day and of course didn't go back to work. So due to a major headache and eyeache no run/wog for me. I hope to get out tomorrow morning.
