Ohhhhhh! Red Dragon and Calcio are kissing! :love2: I'm telling!!! :rotfl:
lol, it's even better during a super skim. Wait. Who's kissing Craig? Martha's gonna' be mad! ;) Oh wait, it is Martha!:rotfl:

No mapping or orienteering today!! Just mt. biking!! I had my best ride (time wise) ever, and I was on the single speed! It was a great ride!

Dave - I'm thinking that as far as me getting lost while mapping... "what they don't know won't hurt um!" I could have figure it out w/ a little more time, but i kept getting mentally distracted and then ran out of time. I'm quite proud of the map though. You don't have to look at it, but if you want to see my first attempt at an orienteering map, here it is. We have just used the usgs maps b//4, so this is a step in the right direction. Map for O meet

Hopefully the boy will nap today, as i am sooooo tired!! I cannot catch up on the sleep. Company/sick boy/daylight svgs is wearing me out!

Oh, forgot to mention ( Kristi you'll love that you made me think of this! :rotfl: ) – I think it is time to schedule an appt with a podiatrist. My right big toe nail is coming back in black and seems to be pushing against the skin that it is ultimately supposed to be covering. ICK!!! And the left big toe nail is white and funky looking. There is also an area around the base of the 2nd nail on both feet that is “bulging” and purplish. Can you say too gross for words? My feet are so hideously ugly that I am actually embarrassed to walk around the house barefoot. I think my dog is even repulsed by them! :lmao:
I think our toes are related! Your toenails sounds exactly like mine! :scared1: :rotfl2:

I am wondering something for all the women in this group. Do you run when it is dark outside? I get so scared, but I live in a nice little town!! I think I am just being a chicken. I want to wake up and run in the morning, but the sun hasn't risen yet at 5:30 or 6:00. I have reflective bands, and would purchase a vest if I thought I would be doing it often, but get so scared. I shouldn't be - I left my garage open for 16 hours the other day and nobody bothered anything! Sometimes, I might also want to run in the evening hours. What do you think?
Ashley

Ashley, here are my 2 cents on the running while it is still dark.....And it may be the only sense I have.:rotfl:
Anywho...I don't do it, unless I have another runner (girl or guy) with me. I understand that you live in a nice area, but recently here in Charlotte we had a girl who was running grabbed and raped on the really nice side of town...the area where this NEVER happens. I just don't know if it is worth getting the run in. But that is just my opinion...I work in HIGH CRIME areas and see alot of stuff that is scarry so I may just be over reacting.
About the vest....I do know in Charlotte, it is illegal to run w/out a vest in the dark. Not sure about other areas.

Judy's right! However, not everyone loses them. I lose one a year after marathon, but, on the bright side, they have never turned color. ;)

Yep, Carrie's right (as usual ;) ), not everyone loses a toe nail. I have been running for 2 years and in those 2 years I have completed 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon and I have NEVER lost a toenail. In fact, none of mine ever bruised or discolored or anything. Callouses? Yes! Lost toe nails? Nope!

Hi everyone, I am Jeanne's friend who is doing the 1/2 marathon with her in Allentown and the WDW either 1/2 or full marathon. I'm not sure I am up to doing a full one, but will make that decision after the Allentown race.

I saw the comments about the toenails and I am always losing them. I have been powerwalking for 5 years and always have some nail that is dark or falling off. Since I started training for this 1/2, I now have both great toe nails are purple with the nails lifting off and already lost the nail on the 2nd toe. My feet look disguisting. I know by sandel time they won't be improved, so I just paint over the nails or the skin where the nail should be. They say it comes from having the toes hit the end of the sneaker, but mine don't hit I think I must pull my toes up as I walk and it hits the top of the sneaker. I can never figure out what causes it. Glad to see that it is just not me.

Nancy

Welcome, Nancy! So glad you found your way over here! I am happy to hear that you are now "considering" the full. The last time I mentioned it, you said "no way!" Of course we have to see how we make out in Allentown. Now you need to sign up on the events thread so every one will know when you are doing your event.
Since neither one of us can keep up with the Repo thread, this is a good place to chat.

Welcome Nancy!!!!!! Can't wait to get to know you better!

Jeanne - We need to get you rrecruiting more often. :D

Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself and see if I can join your thread. My name is Kristin and I live in Okinawa, Japan. I plan on running the Disney Full in Jan '08. It will be my first full ever and I'm very excited but also very nervous. I've been doing well with training as we have good weather here so it's easy for me to run outdoors. I can do up to 10 miles no problem right now. I plan on running a half here in Oct before the full in Jan.

I've always wanted to run the Disney Marathon. I did the College Program down there from Aug 2002-Jan 2003 for a semester and worked at the Yacht and Beach Club. While I've always loved Disney, working there made me love it even more. I'm looking forward to going back and accomplishing this dream, even if everyone thinks I'm nuts to fly back from Japan to do it. By the way, I live over here because my husband is stationed here - he is an officer in the Marine Corps. Anyway, I read through some of the threads on here and you all seem to be such a supportive group who share an interest in both running and Disney just like I do. I'll try to keep up with you all as best as I can, it's hard sometimes with a 13 hour time difference:)

30 min SR today. 2.58 miles for an 11:39 pace. Not sure where these sub-12s are coming from but I'm happy to see them.

:welcome: Nancy!

I don't like to run after dark by myself either. I live in a safe area (unless you're a 10 to 13 yo :sad2: ). I worry more about cars not seeing me than about scarier things I probably should worry about for myself. I do have one of those reflective vests, but if it's looking like a late run, I just hit the TM. I'm happy about DST cause I can do the SR outside now :) Oh, I wear my Road ID for every run.

I thought I would be losing a toenail, but it's hanging in there. I think technically I've lost half a toenail ;)

DD14 has recovered and has an appointment with the allergist next week. I'm thinking Benadryl is just going to be one of those things she has to carry around with her regularly. We went to high school registration last night :faint: She's deciding between the IB (college prep) program and a Math/Science research program where the kids do a research progress, then have to write a thesis and defend it. Sounds a lot harder than my Master's degree :scared1:

Kristin - Welcome! You are officially joined! (Tough crowd, you post, you're in. ;) ) You can run 10 miles???? OMG, you are light years ahead of where I was this time before my first marathon. Keep up the great work!

Mel - GLad dd's doing better. (Sorry I guessed the wrong one )

Welcome, Welcome new WISH teammates!!!! How exciting to see more and more new people everyday!:thumbsup2

Krista--so I haven't lost a toenail or had one turn colors either--Do the callouses count as our badges of honor?????;) Glad to hear that you got to run outside!

Judy--so sorry about the turn in the weather--We're going to have a cool snap here as well this week (highs in the 60s--BRRRR;) )

Ashley--I'm also of the "don't run by yourself in the dark" persuasion. DH won't let me--which is why I spend a lot of weekday runs on the TM. But then again, I also don't like to run outside by myself period. Just kinda creeps me out to be out alone

Not much training to report from me today--got 2 miles in on the TM and some ab work while DD was in gymnastics--that 45 min. goes by way too quickly!

Since I'm a newbie here and there seem to be several veteran marathoners on this board, would anybody mind sharing their training plan or links to ones that have worked for you? I've done a ton of research online and I've printed off several training plans but I don't know which one to follow. I'm in decent shape right now and many of them start off with like 4 days of running 3-4 miles a day which is pretty easy for me. I guess I'm just confused about being 10 months out from the big race and not knowing where I should start or what I should be working on. Also, I've seen plans that have 3xweek runs and 4x week runs...how many days a week do you all run while training? Any and all advice is welcome!
Thanks!

:welcome: Kristin! Where are you originally from?

The sticky at the top of the board has a bunch of links with training plans. Here it is:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1187184

I think most of us use John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals book but I don't think he has the training plan on the website. There's quite a few Jeff Galloway and Hal Higdon folks around too. They do have training plans on their websites. Browse around through the links and see if you find something you like!

Kristen - You are way ahead of many of us before our first marathons. CHrista will likely have better info for you, but I'll tell you what I do. I finsihed my second in January. Most of us use Marathoning for Mortals (MfM) by Jon "the Penguin" Bingham. I'd say Jeff Galloway's plans are next adn soem use Hal Higdon. Most plans do not start until 20 to 26? weeks out, though. That's when teh "real" training starts. Until tehn, we are "training to train". Most plans max out between 20 and 22 miles. It's suggested you increse time or distance by no more than 10% per week. You are golden right now. You do want to be careful that you do not push too much and end up injured late in the year. Right now, I amtraining for the Minnie and following teh MfM 1/2 marathon plan. After my taper, I did 40 minutes twice during teh week adn alternated between 5 and 6 miles on Saturday. I try to cross train (XT twice a week). During real training, per MfM, I go between 3 and 4 runs per week. You may like Higdon, he's a bit more advanced and does 4 rusn a week. Personally, I think that's pushing too much for me. We're thinking of doing a half marathon in October. I we don't, we'll likely start bumping up teh Saturday mileage come August (7 to 9 miles). You'll note that's still below wher you are, though. ;) SO, you may want to wait and hear from some more advaned WISHers.

Thanks so much for the info! I know I definitely don't want to overdo things and I have browsed through all the wonderful links listed on the other thread. Thanks for sharing how you usually train. It's easy to read those training plans online but I prefer to hear what has worked for others who have actually trained and completed the marathon. I've also been feeling confused because all the plans start 5 or so months out from the the race so I wasn't sure what I should be doing now. Thanks for sharing your ideas and feedback. I have to admit I was pushing for the longer distances recently just to show myself that I could actually handle a marathon. I'll probably slow back down to about 25 miles a week or so and maybe work on increasing speed before the "real" training begins later this summer. I don't have anyone to train with out here will I am so if you don't mind, I'll probably be asking for a lot of advice/input from you all. Thank you also for the warm welcome!

Enjoy the IB program. :lmao: DS16 is in his 3rd year of it. Our school does 2 years pre-IB and then the 2 year IB program.

We have decided it is for kids who love to study, come by it naturally, and really are academic orientated. Being ""gifted" is only part of it. Being excited about having homework, self directed projects, etc is the other part of it.

If we had to do it all over again, DS would not do it again. He is a great kid, "gifted", etc, but he does not like to study. We though this would stimulate him to try better. It has not.

It has taught me to be more patient and understanding.

It's a tough decision. Good luck.
