Wk of Mar 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

OK, now I'm mad. Now I'm really, really mad! :furious: Last night I was taking a bucket of water out to the barn and I slipped in the mud and did something to my new knee. It was all swollen up, like someone cut a grapefruit in half and stuck it on my kneecap. It hurts a little now but mostly feels weird. Which scares me because when I blew out my ACL it didn't hurt either. It just felt weird. I RICED it last night and this morning. I didn't train today. Right now I have it wrapped up in an Ace bandage. Grrrrrrr. This ticks me off.

:welcome: to Nancy and Kristin!

Angie - I too am struggling with my Minnie training. When I was training for the Half last fall I only missed one day because of an injury. I did everything else flawlessly. This time, I don't know, I just can't get into it. I'm trying to blame it on winter doldrums, and well, what happened last weekend doesn't help, but anyway, I'm determined to improve over the next couple of weeks. That is, if this stupid knee cooperates.

Terri - Oh that's great news! Pretty soon it will all just be a dim memory and you will so glad you did it.

Oh yay! Kristi's got her picture back up!

Steve - Hey, I was wondering where you went. :wave2:

Stephanie -OMG! That's awful! No caffeine? How did you get going? (I totally sympathize with you here.)

Oh Vic, nooooo. I'm sorry you are sick. Maybe you were breathing in too much dust. :lmao:

Craig - Have a fun and safe trip. :drive: (OK I know you're not driving but we have no airplane smilie.) We will miss you here.

Jen - Where are you going in Northern CA? I'm dying to take a vacation there, maybe Mendocino. :goodvibes

Martha - You're too funny! :rotfl: Even when you're sick you make me laugh. We're going to have fun at OKW!

OK, let me pretend to be working when I'm actually researching an ultra top secret DCL trip to give Charlie for Christmas this year. :ssst:

After reading so many of your posts, I got intrigued. Now I am looking at Higdon's plans, and thinking of making the switch. I think I would feel better prepared using one of these plans. I am thinking of switching to Intermediate I or II. More running requirements would be good for me! Any input as to which one to do?

Last night I got in 4.5 miles -- my calves are fighting me on this endeavor. I did run with the HS Track Team for a little while, and that felt great -- there's no way that those kids can do what we're doing now! (If they trained they could, but how many HS kids are willing to put forth that effort??) (Please don't get mad, I have nothing against HS kids!) (Now I am scared to have offended somebody. I have spent too much time reading posts on the Community Board, I think.)

Okay. Off I go to Writing Workshop!

Take care,
Ashley

Paul, your daughter is beautiful, what a precious gift:goodvibes

Craig - The snow is still good here, the sun is shinning:cool2: , the birds are starting to come back, but the crowd level is still high. Our Spring breaker folks are here and the waiting lines have been an hour or more on the weekends. Ugh! I think we have about a month left of ski season, then all us locals can sit back and enjoy the "2 for 1" dinners that the restaurants will offer. ha. Just waiting :hourglass til my walking path is clear from snow.lol

Carrie - have a good run tonight.

Craig - Have a great trip and be safe.

Martha - Get well.

Jen - Have a great trip and be safe.

Judy - Sorry to hear about your knee. Hope everythings ok.

Ashley - Great job on your run.

:)

Judy: so sorry to hear about your knee......hope it feels better soon.

I keep getting faster during my sprint walks......today I finished 2 miles in just over 26 minutes which is a record for me. There's no way I can continue for longer at that pace, but it makes my distance walk seem like a stroll. With each passing day, the full is seeming more and more like a possibility.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Good job Jeanne on your sprint. I was hoping the rain would stay away until I get off work so I can walk outside one last time before the snow on Friday, but it is already raining. So back to the gym and the TM.

I still doubt I will do the full, but will at least give it consideration.

Nancy

New to Marathon, help!!!

Thanks Carrie for telling me about this board from the other dis board.

:wizard: I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2005 with a :cool1: 6 hr finish due to a fall at mile 19 (cut up pretty bad) and had to trot/walk the rest of the way. I was on a 5 hr finish until that time. I am very exited about Disney. I have a few questions I hope some of you can answer (1) Do they offer any discounts on tickets or room packages (I booked the Swan right now but I can still cancel); (2) Is the Swan a good location to get to the start line and be able to crawl back to? (3) will my hubby be able to find me along the route (at MCM he went back to our room and fell asleep, alas 1st marathon ---- no pics ---- no cheering section --- no nothing until mile 23 when all he could say was hey, your leg is ooozing blood :yay:

I am ready to start training here in warm Boston (finally) but we are going to get 6" of snow starting tomorrow, so I have to postpone until at least Monday. I have not done any training since my last marathon -- due to many mishaps with my family I have been unable to do any training. Then I was ready to start last August, but I got injured at work --- a steel door choped my and tore my achilles. On crutches for 6 weeks. I am very afraid to start again 'cause I think I will get hurt. BUT I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to do Disney in January. Think it is realistic???

gomeztravel - your plan to do Disney is totally doable! And the Swan is a great place to stay. Those beds really are heavenly. :cloud9:

Judy - you must try to look at the positive side...make an appt. to see Dr. Hunka-hunka-burnin'-love! :rotfl: And yes, I put a pic back, but I am going to change it to something else. I am in crazy GGD mode and driving everyone nuts around me - so I didn't want to leave you WISHers out! :rotfl2:

Krista - darn! I was hoping for some news.... ;)

I am scheduled for 5 miles again today. I just feel like such a slug. I have a feeling I am going to bail on it. I'm not even going to Disney On Ice tonight. I told Chad to see if his friend & her son wanted to go instead. You know I am feeling lousy if I am giving up Disney On Ice tickets to sleep!

Afterall, I do have to rest up for my Johnny...*sigh*

Hey gomeztravel, welcome to the boards!

I just got an e-mail from WDW travel for a marathon travel package. The rates they quoted me for the hotels were the rates for the value season. Later you may be able to get a discount through AAA, but right now, prices are pretty well as listed.

I just booked my airfare last night to go to San Francisco in October for the Nike Women's Half. The race is months away, but I'm already super excited! I wouldn't have necessarily bought so early, but the fare was too good to pass up, especially considering that earlier this week I was getting quotes for $600.... I also picked up my race packet for Saturday's race. So looking forward to my first race of the year! Tonight I have a 2 miler scheduled - thankfully it is sunny out, but it is a bit cold though!

Have a great Thursday guys!

Hey Leana,

I'm going to the Nike Women's half as well! :thumbsup2

I need to check out the airfares. Last time I checked, the fare was high. If you don't mind me asking, what airline are you using?

ETA: I just checked airfares. THey are still around $400 for RT from Little Rock. I'm hoping to catch a flight for around $300. That may not be possible.

Susie, that is so exciting! I have two other girlfriends doing the event with me in San Francisco, so maybe we can meet up there too.

I'm flying Air Canada from here, so I don't know if that helps you at all! I saw that prices came down on United at the same time though, so maybe they might work for you from Little Rock. I don't have very many choices flying out of Calgary, but luckily Air Canada has a non-stop flight there and I got it for $341.

I couldn't get outside to walk today and since I have to work tonight my time is limited, so I did Leslie Sansome's walking dvd and boy did I sweat! For a quick workout it's great! This particular dvd is 45 mins. Has anyone else tried her workouts?

Just popped in to say "Hey!" :wave2:

I haven't had a chance to read, yet, but skimmed enough to see the baby picture... Paul - she is absolutely beautiful!!!

We haven't been able to DIS much in the last few days. DH is gone this week on business. In the meantime, my dad was taken to the hospital Sunday night after having a stroke. He is fine - the stroke was in a part of the brain that doesn't affect anything, but he can't drive until his next appointment when they get more test results back. He was just released from the hospital yesterday. The whole thing really freaked me out, though - he is only 68!!! Oh, and my sister had a minor car accident on Monday - again, she's fine, just some damage to the car. And Monday night the dog was sick all over the carpet... guess who got to clean it since sweet DH is gone... :crazy2: yup, one of those weeks!!! :scared1: I have to say, all this has made me appreciate my DH more than ever! He gets back Saturday night, and I soooooo can't wait!!! :cloud9:

So, that's my update. No baby, yet. Everyone keeps telling me not to stress over all this for fear I'll go into labor before Bill gets back. ;)

I'm off to read the thread and catch up on everyone's news! Thanks for being such an awesome WISH family!!!

--Lynnda

Lynnda - I'm with "everyone" ;) , pleasee don't stress! Easier said than done, especially after teh week you've had! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

That is what I am scream'n!
So, I don't watch American Idol - but is this the guy that is being voted for on purpose? Supposedly Howard Stern and alot of other people have fans calling in to vote for him since he is so bad.

Ok, really - enough of reaching the end of the internet. I am off to bed!

Just got my 2 miler in at 22:41 for an 11:21 min/mi pace. That's a fair bit faster than what I've run recently too, and I sure felt it!

Yeah, I watch American Idol too and I can't believe Sanjaya is still around. BUT - Brandon Rogers didn't sing up to his potential, he sang first, and he forgot his lyrics so I wasn't too surprised to see him go. Sorry, had to get my AI opinion out there too!!

Judy - Go see the doctor if your knee still hurts. How are you going to run on our NEW TREADMILL with me if you're injured?

Nancy - :welcome: If Jeanne wants to do the full, you can still do the half with me!

Krista - Is the first sock still in the street? Could we have a matched pair? :rotfl:

Lynnda - What a week! Please be careful and take it as easy as you can.

Craig - Have a GREAT trip.

Jeanne - What an awesome pace! I walked today at lunch with a co-worker - we did 1.6 in 24 minutes and I was feeling pretty good about that, at least until I read your post! But then, I was wearing jeans too...

Mel/Jim - We applied for an IB magnet but didn't get in. Then we looked at a charter school that promised that 100% of its graduates are accepted at their first choice of college/university, but they have about 5 hrs of homework nightly. We settled for our neighborhood high school - a traditional program - and are very glad, primarily for the reasons Jim mentioned! DD is very intelligent, just not motivated enough to handle the demands of the other programs.

Terri - Great news from the doctor. Keep healing!

Bought the new TM last night. Got it into the house tonight. Probably won't get it actually set up until the weekend, but I'm "tapering" for my 5K this weekend. Yeah, yeah, I know I don't really need to taper for a 5K, but it's a good excuse for not getting up this morning to run. I did walk at lunch so the legs saw a little action.

Went to pick up my race packet, and saw a flyer that Jeff Galloway will be here in May to kick off a marathon training program. I'm definitely going to go to the free clinic, then will see if I'm willing to fork over the money ($159) to join their training group. (Jim - Is your Galloway group an organized group?)

After 3 days of 80 degree weather, it's dropping into the 40's for the next few days. Looks like my 5K will be in the 30's. I wanted cooler weather, but not quite that cool!

Jackie

Wow, I love this group already. Thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone and I promise I will get to know you all by name eventually but there are just too many right now so I don't really feel like I can reply individually. I truly appreciate the advice I've gotten from you all so far.

To answer some of your questions, I'm hoping my DH will be able to fly in with me for the full. Being in the military, anything can happen so we can never really count on things 100% and he is sent away on assignment a lot so hopefully he'll be around and able to travel with me come January. My parents and possibly sister said they would like to come and watch and support me though so either way I'll have some encouragement:)

I mostly train and run alone here, other than when I run with my DH, so it's been so wonderful to find this great network of support! I look forward to getting to know you all!

Oh one more thing...
for those of you who are currently "training to train" as you all call it, I wanted to recommend an EXCELLENT resource that helped me get my life back on track to being healthier and more fit. It's a website called www sparkpeople .com you can track your caloric/nutritional intake and also log your exercise. I wasn't too overweight to begin with but I've lost 12 pounds since Sep just by utilizing the resources on the site. The site is great for helping you focus on and track your goals and progress. Just thought I'd share...
