Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey all.... OK, so when my life rains, it pours. Remember how sad I was when our receptionist/assistant left (she was awesome). Well the replacement has been less than stellar and in fact I think I had less work when we had no one in the position. She is very sloppy with her work and today it nearly put me over the edge. It's not like she is right out of school, she was supposed to have experience in this, she is in her 40's. Oh I just don't know what to do with her.

OK, so anyway....

Karen - I had hip and back pain before WDW, to the point where I thought I would have to give up running. Stretching was my lifesaver, and icey hot/heat treatments. Pixie Dust to you!!!

Krista - I think that mail from MI is still on Pony (Donkey) Express. I was supposed to get some payments a long time ago and never received them!!!!!

Hi TEAM...let me hobble in to do my training report. I walked almost 9 miles yesterday and my heel is killing me today. The doctor shaved off some of the orthodics, so that they would fit better and he elevated the heels, so that my shoes would slip off the heel anymore. I didn't walk today, but did get out for a nice bike ride, then soaked in the jacuzzi..which was lovely!:dance3:

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will rest and then try again Monday.

Christa, I'm not training for anything specifically right now. I was a walker and started a 13 week program that eased me from walking into running. I was finally up to all running and just finished week 11. At 13 weeks I was to run a 10K and from there I was gonna switch over to the 13 week maintenance program for the Race for the Taste.

I do have a neighborhood pool. I'm not a strong swimmer, but I guess I could run in the pool. I just wonder if this will still place stress on that foot? I also noticed today my right hip hurts. I wonder if I was running odd this morning since my foot hurt...

RATS!

Kristi - Just finished watching Molly on AI. I cried too! It's probably a good thing I'm home alone - not sure if DH would understand when I screamed "I know her" and then try to explain to him that I've never actually MET you...

Shan - I have to wear either glasses or sunglasses to be able to see, and I've never had any trouble with them fogging up. I wear the sunglasses unless it's raining, and then I add a hat to keep some of the rain off. Wish I could go back to contacts, but they seem to have given up when I hit 40!

Steve - Glad you had a good run. Sorry it had to end on a bad note!

Cam (& Howard) - Good luck on your 5K tonight!

Erica
- More hugs for you. I'm so sorry you had to go through all this with Rascal. I'm giving extra hugs to Mystic in Rascal's memory. Congrats on adopting the kittens.

Ran tonight after work. It's still hot, but not miserable, and not terribly humid. Did 3.2 miles, and did some speed workouts too. Tried the one that was in RW and felt pretty good. Ironically the 2nd mile, when I did the most speedwork, was the slowest of the splits! There was a lot of walking/ recovery mixed in there.

Jackie

Jen - I hate breaking in a new admin! I feel fro you. Not too much if you;re going to say mean things about me though. ;) Actually, I'll run it to you personally, when I'm in shape and it's not so hot. :lmao:

Shan - If you were favoring your foot, that coudl throw your hip off. Running in teh pool will put much less stress on your foot. You stll may want to give it a 100% break fro thsoe 3 days, though. 3 days will not hurt you. Oh, and if you're not trainign for a race, double your easy week adn then just run you 10K week when you get back. That would be fine. EVen if you miss runs in FL, you shoudl be ok.

OK, Kristi, where are you?? I ran tonight.

OK, it was 80, so I was at crawl speed, btu I technically ran 40 minuets ad nI don't think I'll get a migraine. woo hoo. Leg felt good, though. I feel like a poser doing water every half mile and sponging down every 10 steps when no one else on teh path even seems to sweat, though.

OK, Kristi, where are you??
:rolleyes1

Well, ya know, being a tv celebrity is very tiring! :rotfl:
I can never say no, so we went on a playdate to a friend's house with a pool.
I just got home now at 8:30pm!
Since I get up at 3am, there is unfortunately no w/o for me again. :sad2:

How I am ever going to be in shape for another picture with my Johnny in a month? :sad2:  :sad2:  :sad2:

I just had the MOST excellent 3 mile run!!  I waited until 8:00 to go instead of 6:00, and it made a huge difference. My time was a minute and a half faster than my 2 previous runs this week. I switched to my old running shoes, which have less miles on them and my knees felt great, I did have some shin splints, but I think they were left over from Tuesday's run. Oh, and the new running shoes will have to wait a week, Stephen just book us a weekend at Cedar Point. I am SO excited!!!! I can't wait to ride all of my favorite coasters and to run along Lake Erie. I am PUMPED!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Plus Stephen and I got engaged at Cedar Point almost 8 years ago (7/9/99), so CP is a special place for us.

Kristi--Molly is so cute! I cried too!! And how sweet was George Foreman??? Please tell her how proud her Wish family is of her and to keep on inventing new things. Oh, I have to admit, when the one guy asked her if she liked running, I wished she would have said, "My aunt and uncle are marathon runners". :)

Carrie--There must be something in the air! Glad you had a great run too!!

Shan--Take the 3 days completely off. I wouldn't start cross training unless your foot still hurts after taking some time off.

Jen--:wizard: for work!

Well, I'm off to pack and get Hines' stuff ready to go to the kennel. Have a great night everyone!

The conditions were partly cloudy, hovering around 85 degrees and very humid (not too good for a run over a hilly course). :headache:

The race started down a straight street and came to a "T", runners began to go left (the correct direction) then about 50 runners into the race, the motorcycle policeman directed the rest of us (approx. 900 of us) to the right and through an alternate course direction. It didn't make sense, but I (being bunched up with tons of people) followed everyone. It ends up that the Police Officer was wrong and sent most of us the wrong way.

The net result was a 5K race which ended up being 3.3 miles instead of 3.1. So, for the 3.3 miles, I finished in 30:07 with a 9:08 pace per mile. This pace per mile is better than the last time we ran on the 3.1 mile course a few weeks ago.

Off to the showers for me... long overdue. Have an excellent evening and Friday (TGIF!).

Good morning WISH Team friends.

Here is a link with a picture of one of our new Kitties.

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8642198

Erica is making our house kitty friendly with everything required for kitten care and fun. She even got a fuzzy mouse thing on a stick to dangle over the kitty, I think this is to train them to attack me on command.

Today might be a rest day I haven't decided yet. I had a really good walk yesterday.

Everyone have a wonderful day and remember that magic and romance is all around us, open your mind and your heart and believe.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

OK, I've had a WTO week and family take over too. I'm struggling to get back in the swing of things after being gone in Rio all last week. I've been trying to keep up with my runs. I ran 3 miles with my new iPOD after I dropped DD9 princess: off at TKD on Wednesday.

Yesterday I did 5 miles in 43:09 min for 8:37 mpm pace! I wasn't trying to go fast, I was trying to have an easy run, and it felt pretty easy for the most part. Although my shins are a little sore. Today's a rest day.

Dave and Erica- I'm so sorry to hear about your dog having to be put to sleep. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Kristi- Oooh, I wish I would have seen the American Inventor episode with Molly. Sounds soo cool.

Plus Stephen and I got engaged at Cedar Point almost 8 years ago (7/9/99), so CP is a special place for us.
Krista, wow that's weird DW and I were just talking about Cedar Point last night. We're taking the kids to Darien Lake Theme Park (a former Six Flags park) today because they're out of school, and we were talking about how we used to go to Cedar Point when we lived in Pittsburgh and Michigan. Have a great time! Give my best to Steve.

I know I missed most of everyone, but please accept my apologies and know I think of you all often during my runs.

I got in another 3 miles yesterday! It was actually cool when I started out, but that lasted all of 10 min. It is frustrating how much speed I have lost but I am trying to ease back into it so I dont anger the tendonitis. Ankles felt much better this run.

Krista-I have never been to CP but it looks like a blast. How sweet of Stephen:love:

Kristi-so you have another meeting with your boyfriend next month huh. You go to more concerts than anyone I have every met :rotfl:

SWDave-great job getting out there, sometimes its hard to get back into "real life" after a trip like that.

Carrie-No way you are a poser. How many of those people do you think have done a full?

Shan-yep, rest the foot for a couple of days & then try again. I think for pool running you wear a waist belt that makes you float so your feet dont touch the bottom of the pool. We have several people here that are experts on that.

Howard-great job on the race!!!!!:woohoo:

Karen- :wizard: for the hip!

Have a great Friday everyone. Off to take the van to get some new brakes. Dont you just love spending money on stupid stuff like that :sad2:

DAve - ZGrat job on teh run! I love it when I try to go easy, and I think I do, but the Garmin says I'm flying! I was thinking about you during my run last night. Are the dds still running at all? How's everything else going at home? Your post made it sound possibly not so good. :grouphug:

Krista - I don't know that practically going at a crawl is great, but at least I didn't get a migraine afterward and I didn't hurt. So, I guess I should change my attitude. ;) Oh, I would so love go to CP. It's been probably 4 years. Seeing as Sctt can't do most of the rides, though, I hate to drag him there. You have fun!!! Hmmm...may have to try to move my runs to later. However, that wou,dld mean eatin gdinner at 9 pm.

Tiff! SO good to see you getting her regularly! :goodvibes Glad you were feeling better. It's hard to take it easy, but our bodies need it sometimes.

Howard - Congrats on teh great 5K+! I would have been crawling in that heat.

I was up early and wogged 3.03 miles. I developed shin splints (mild to moderate) and decided to walk most of it (maybe 2 of the 3 miles). For the week:

Saturday: 3.1 Miles (Miles for Molly 5K)
Sunday: Day of Rest
Monday: 3.0 Miles
Tuesday: 3.0 Miles
Wednesday: 3.0 Miles
Thursday: 3.3 Miles (Heart of a Champion 5K Plus)
Friday: 3.03 Miles

Total: 18.43 Miles :thumbsup2

I am getting older tomorrow, I am glad I don't act like it.

I am looking forward to our visitors this weekend and the fun and good times that will ensue.

Have an excellent weekend!

Happy and Safe Training!

Tiff ~ Hi to you and your Mom! Thanks!

:grouphug:

Thanks so much everyone. :goodvibes

I woke up with my foot still hurting. I think I really did something to it. It doesn't look swollen, though. If it is small stress fractures how long does that type of thing take to heal?

I'm so bummed. Running was really helping maintain my weight and I was actually enjoying it! I can't believe I gotta wear nice dresses in mid July in Vegas. I really gotta watch myself. I gain weight by looking at food. Plus, it is gonna be hard to resist ice cream and snacks while at the beach in a week. :scared:

Could I use a pool noodle to keep me up while I run in the pool? I really hope it feels better by Monday. I'm definitely gonna lay off for three days.

:bday: Howard! I am sure the family has lots of great things planned for you this weekend. Enjoy!

WWDave & Erica- I love the picture of the kitty! Dave better watch out, because it looks like it won't take long for Erica to turn him into an attack cat. And, when did 1 kitten turn into 2 kittens? I thought Dave said you were just getting one for Mary? :rolleyes1

Shan - It could take 3 weeks to heal a stress fracture. Take ibuprofen (800 mg/8hours is what the doc told me). If you ran in the deep end, you could float with a noodle. You could also get an aqua jogger which holds your body up better. Maybe SWDave or STeve can tell you where tehy got theirs. I just run in teh shallow end. A little more impact, but still much better than hitting the pavement adn it's avaiable in teh back yard. ;) My doc said I coudl go 3 to 5 miles at an easy pace when I wahad mine. I was in post-marathon shape, though. If it is a stress fracture, teh pool would bea great option.

Happy Birthday Howard!!!!

Shan--Stephen got his aqua belt at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Happy Birthday Howard!!!!!!

Good morning folks, I think I'm half asleep still.

WWDave-I missed commenting on this yesterday but I'll have to add that joke to my list of jokes. (Although I tend to laugh to hard at my own jokes to get to the end of them.) Good luck with the kittens, it's safe to say I'm firmly a dog person. Just the picture of the kitten made me want to run. (Maybe it would help my runs to have a kitten chasing behind me.)

Carrie-Funny I feel like a poser because I never run with water. (I know I should but I'm used to soccer where it was like one water break at the half.) And look at this way maybe the people on the path think you're a super athlete who needs this stuff. There's always a flip side to things.

Krista-Congrats on the good run. I really have noticed a difference in my runs based on the time of day I go out. Is it bad that other then it's an amusement park I have no idea what Cedar Point is about?

Karen-I hope your hip feels better soon!

Happy Birthday Howard!!!

Last night should have been a xt night. I know that I've said a couple of times this has been a rough week for me. So when my cousin called and asked me to go out I jumped on the chance. I called my boyfriend to say good night and then went off to our local country western type bar for the mechanical bull ridding night! I rode a bunch of times and after one of the rides I turned to my cousin(the same one I'm running the ToT & the full with) and said "This counts as cross training right?" She got a good laugh out of that. But it was lots of fun and maybe I'll post pictures later if I get the chance. I think it was just what I needed to kick this funky mood out of here.

Happy Friday everyone!!! :woohoo:

Here is my Friday (6/22) LR report. Well if you can call it a LR....Remember the 14 mile goal, for the past 3 weeks? Well some force of nature must be working against me b/c once again it did not happen.

I have just copied this from my journal so everyone can get a kick out of it.;)

All I can say is IBS! If you don't know what that means consider yourself very blessed! Lets just say I know where EVERY port-o-jon is on this rout now!

Well here is the breakdown of the run in 4 segments:
1. Met Bree at the DOWD YMCA @ 0600. Went to the bathroom and put on water belt and around 0608 started running. We started together but I added on and caught up with her throughout the run.
2. 1st 3 miles were good. My average was a 7:25.9 MPM. I was trying to run faster so I could catch up with Bree....remember at this point, I had added a mile onto this route.
3. The next 4.68 is where it started going bad! I met up with her (she was running btwn 10/11 MPM) and we ran about a mile together. Then I broke off and did a loop around Freedom Park. This added on .7 miles. After leaving the park, I started feeling bad. I then started stopping at every port-o-jon along the route. My pace went down significantly (SP?)...to a 8:45.6 MPM. I guess all the stopping put me behind.
4. At this point I bagged the additional 2.something miles and just met back up with Bree. I ran the next 3.75 miles of it with her. I was OK during this part b/c I was running an 11:15.2 MPM. This made it easier to finish the run.

The total mileage was 11.39 @ 1:45.57
For me, this averages out to be a 9:18.1 MPM. Not proud, but at least I made it through the run.
