Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi all--
Can you believe this? Two days in a row of posting!! Woo-hoo :cool1: I'm on a roll!

Today is an off day so I'm sending lots of support to all of you training today. I am with my trainer tomorrow morning and she'll beat me up pretty good.

Howard: ooo, Craig reminded me that my father donated blood, at age 78, and went directly to the thrift shop where he and my Mom volunteer. He didn't rest like he was supposed to. He was carrying things around and working as usual and fainted! They rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced fine, if not too smart. At least you didn't do that! 'Nuff said. We care about you and will now stop yelling at you.

Mel: I hope the shoes continue to help your foot! I love new shoes. They are just fun.

TiffJ: keep doing those exercises for the tendonitis. I hope it gets better soon.

CindyLou: Powerade and chocolate milk? I'm not sure I could take that combo!

Cam and Howard: good luck on your 5K!! Let us know how it goes.

Keep on truckin' everyone! OK, so I'm trying to come up with a decent tag line. That may not be it. I'll have to keep thinking....

Shan - I live in North Florida, and if I don't get out by 8am for my run it just gets too daggum hot. On my LR's I usually get to the trail around 6:30, about the time the sun is coming up, and by 7:30 or so I am done, and it still hasn't gotten too hot yet. Also... I don't always wear sunglasses when I run, they get fogged up sometimes and if I forgot to bring a hand towel it can get really aggravating. However, I have on one too many occasions been chased by bugs (yellow flies, horse flies, bees, etc... ) while out running and been waving my hands around like a maniac while I was running. Much to the amusement of the people on bikes who passed me laughing. Obviously THEY couldn't see the bug!!

Hey everyone, Just a quick drive by.

Just got back from a 3K felt good, no shin or thigh pain so that is good.

Sorry I am trying to get off my addiction again....pepsi....I was off it from Jan till May but got back on it at disney so now trying to cut back again so going through the caffene withdrawls and finding it hard to concentrate as my head is thumping so forgive my short post. Will try and catch up tomorrow morning as hopefully my headache will be gone.

Have a great night

Kim

Hey guys! I have nothing on topic to report :rolleyes1 , unless hitting 3 Gymborees & 3 Targets in NH & MA counts as some xt like it did for Stephanie. I left work at noon with Zack in tow, and we didn't get home until 5:30pm! ( I have issues, I know) Oh wait, and I jogged .1 miles to my parents' house & back while Zack zipped over there on his John Deere tractor.

Tonight are some of the NYC auditions for American Inventor. I am not sure if Molly will be on tonight or next week (based on how they split the last 2 cities into 2 weeks). The short blurb on ABC's website did not mention a cute 9 year old though. ;)

Tiffany
- I am so happy to see you here posting again so soon!

Carrie - Can I get back on the wagon tomorrow??? :)

Does everyone wear sunglasses when out running? I dunno, I think that might drive me crazy. I like wearing my baseball hat.

I do. I got some Ironman from Target and really like them. Of course, I live where the humidity & heat is pretty low, so I don't have alot of sweating issues.

I'm starting to use the Brooks Adrenaline 7's, I can't remember who asked. I've only used them on the treadmill, and only for walks 2 miles or less. I stopped today at 1.6 miles, cause my foot had some twinges. I don't know if it was the new shoes or what but I don't want to get injured, so I stopped. I haven't decided if I like the 7's yet, they're just a little different. I think once I get used to them, I'll be okay.

I wear glasses, so I can't really get around wearing sunglasses or glasses when I am running. The only time I go without is if it is raining or snowing...thank goodness I can see well enough without them that I can still know where I'm going! I haven't had too many issues with them fogging up, but mind you, I live in a supremely dry city.

Krista...I second Carrie's ASICS and Mizuno recommendation. I seem to be getting along well with the Saucony's right now. How's Steve...doesn't seem like he's been around these parts much lately?

Mel, I'm still here! Although I have to admit today is the first day in about two weeks that I've been able to log on and check out my WISH teammates. I feel horrible about that--like I'm neglecting my responsiblities, especially since I'm supposed to be one of the YARC members. :)

I've been extremely buys at work, which is no excuse, but as Judy/Sunny would say, it's been a WTO month. I did get to go for a really, truly great run last night. I was in NYC for a customer presentation, and I had the evening to myself, so I headed over to Manhattan and went for a 6 mile run through Central Park. What an awesome experience! I had no idea there were so many runners in NYC! Literally thousands. This run has to rank among my very favorites and I know I'll always remember it that way. And then, I topped the evening off with a not-so-great moment. I got back to the hotel and decided that the elevator to the lobby was taking too long, so I took the stairs and at the bottom, I missed the last stair with my right foot and rolled my ankle. Did it up pretty good, and it's swollen to about twice its normal size. I haven't sprained an ankle since college, but I do remember what it's like and I know I'm probably going to be out of running for a couple of weeks. And on the second day of official training for the Columbus marathon. :sad2: Oh well, it'll just force me to be diligent with my cross training.

I hope everyone's having a great week and   to all my teammates. I won't even pretend I've had a chance to catch up with the posts, but I really plan to try this weekend (hey, without my LR this weekend, I should have plenty of time to DIS :) ).

Talk to you all later!

Steve

Sorry to hear of your mishap Steve. RICE lots and do good XT.

Sorry WISH Team, I've got only a few and am off to do more stuff here. Unfortunately it is very little in the stuff I need to do for me line. Sigh.

I've updated our WISH Team calendar. Check it out everyone!

Steve

I recommend ice, lots of ice. Ice on your ankle. Ice in a mai tai glass, or even better multiple mai tai glasses. Good luck getting the swelling down and getting your flexibility back.

Kristi: I just saw Molly on American Inventor. What a cutie!! She did such an awesome job. I had tears right along with her. Gee, do you and your sister look alike!!

Kristi -- Howard spotted you and was positively giddy that he recognized you without me ever telling him to look for you. And he said Molly was "really cute" and sweet and he said he felt so bad that she got two votes and not 3. He and Jenn and Andy all saw you, and doesn't it figure? I was on the phone! UGH!

kristi--I am so bummed I missed the audition! I've been sitting here listening to a web seminar and watching the dancing show--I could've seen you all! Dang it--oh and I did some of that Gymboree cross training today too--gotta love Red Hot Dot sale!

steve--ICE, ICE, ICE! Take care of that ankle. Good to hear from you! Sounds like the run in Central Park was to die for!

Kristi - I saw you, too! I got home from work and they were just giving the votes. Molly is so cute. Sorry she only got 2 votes, but she has lots of time to keep inventing! I wish her the best!

Steve - be careful with that ankle. I did the same thing and found out I have a stress fracture. 4-6 weeks rest for me. Only allowed to swim. Those doggone steps - I don't know how we miss them :confused3

Yes wear sunglasses. It's sunscreen for your eyes. Cataracts are caused by sun damage. The wrinkles under your eyes are caused by sun damaged. So sunglasses are cheaper than botox to prevent wrinkle lines.

The best kind for athletes are the wire kind that let air in and around them, that way no fogging and no problem with sweat dripping on them. Plus they are protection from bugs and bits of sand and trash in the wind.

Good sunglasses can be expensive but are well worth it. I personally get the transition type lenes in my perscription glasses so they change with the conditions. But transitions don't change in the car so I keep a pair of sunglasses in the car.

This was your optician commercial for the evening.

Totally OT - I am so proud of my Miss Molly! :goodvibes
For any 9 year old to get up there all alone in front of national tv is fabulous.
But this kid also has a biological father that is an addict and will probably be dead in the next year or so (he was just told this at his latest stint at rehab). She has a mild form of Tourette Syndrome. She also has some major gastroenterological issues, which makes her belly really big compared to the rest of her normal sized body - and she gets made fun of alot for that. Oh, and the poor kid had to get biofocals this week to top it all off!

Molly is planning on making a prototype this summer with her stepfather. She told the American Inventor people she would be back next year. My sister also has a provisional patent (?) in the works.

I know I am biased, but I think had she had a prototype of some sort, she would have gotten a 'yes' from Pat.

A real quick post since I have too much to do at work right now.

For those that missed American Inventor last night, ABC puts them online for viewing usually a day or so after. So once it is up all you have to do is click on it and watch everything.

Kristi: Sorry I didn't see the show last night, I must have missed it in all the posts, what was her invention?

Steve: Sorry to hear of your mishap....but I agree with everyone else...lots of ice....hope it feels better soon

I either wear my glasses with a clip or contacts and sunglasses, I am as blind as a bat without one or the other. I have tried to wear a hat and I can't I get too over heated. I have a hat that I carry on my water belt it says Kyles Fight. My little 5 year old neighbour is fighting nero blastoma, he was in remission for a about a year but it came back just before I went to the Minnie, so I always have the hat with me on LW, I figure if this little guy can go though chemo, and radiation a long walk is nothing.... Sorry for the downer, that wasn't my intention when I started typing about my glasses.:grouphug:

Sorry for those I missed this morning, gotta get to work

Have a 4K tonight then weights tomorrow.

Have a great day.

Kim - her idea was a sneaker that plays music. She calls it "SneakyBeats." The show is up on abc.com and she is about 13 mins. in. Also, the local ABC affiliate contacted my sister and they are going to do a story on Molly.
:goodvibes

Kristi - Seeing as Scott declared last night painting night (in a hallway that's been taped for about 3 weeks:confused3 ), today works. ;)

Shan - I don't know what the final weeks of your program are like, but doulbing up hard weeks is not recommend.

I wear sunglasses, but I have always workn them when there's a speck of sunshine since I was about 10. Mine are wire and don't fog, although I forgot to take them off many times when I dumped water on my head for the marathon and I tended to be too tired to dry them,s i teh spots annoyed me. lol. BTW, my sunglasses are pretty cheap, but don't chafe or fog, so you don't have to go $$$$.
