Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

WWDave - Hope the meds work for the dog.

Jen - Glad DH is doing well. Hope you can continue delurking!

Actually ran on the TM this morning. Yesterday and today temps are in the upper 90's, and I refuse to fight it outside. (Besides, the TM was looking lonely.) Did 3 miles in 37:00, but that included a couple of really slow minutes at the beginning while I was fiddling with the MP3 player. I ran the entire 3 miles except for one walk break after the first mile - that felt good after having to take so many outside due to the humidity!

Have a great day everyone!

Jackie

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I made it back from Rio, and I'm trying to catch up with home and work. I'm beat. I missed my connection flight in Atlanta, and had to spend another couple hours in the airport. But all and all my flight back was pretty uneventful. Got back in time to go to Outback Steakhouse for Father's Day, and DW and the princesses gave me a new iPOD NANO for Father's Day. I need to get some music on it now.

I did go run yesterday, and attempted my Monday speedwork. Over lunch I ran down to the university track and was planning 3 miles alternating fast and slow laps. It was HOT! I only ended up doing 2 miles on the track. Mile 1 was 7:37!!! But then my legs started to feel really dead, stiff, and sore, so I did another mile and called it a run. I didn't want to push it and overdo it too much.

Carrie- Ooooh Kensington MP - such a beautiful place. Did you do your LR there, around the lake?

Started the first day of training. Just 30 min. Used my new shoes. The right one gave me such tremendous pain in my arch!!!!!!!!!! I stopped at one point and took it off. Contemplated walking home with it off it hurt so bad. Put it back on and finished the session. Should a new shoe feel like it is stabbing me with a knife in the arch? Will it go away for good, or will I have this everytime I wear the shoe? I do recall having this with other shoes - some more than others. Guess that is why I am supposed to wear orhtotics (then again, they were very painful at first.) But they are MIA . . .

No your shoes should need to be broken in. How did you come about them and what kind are they? Were you fitted for them by a running store? What kind of arches do you have, High, med or flat. Are you a walker or a runner?

Dave:hippie:

Hello my wonderful team mates!!!!! I have missed you guys. I have been lurking occasionally & so appreciate your well wishes & :wizard: Things are finally starting to move in the right direction with DH. 2 weeks from today (July 3rd, how appropriate) he should be having his last chemo & radiation! Life has started slowing down a little bit for us because all of his other complications have gotten better so we arent having to spend so much time at the specialists' office or in the hospital.:cool1:

And in other news...., I am taking my boys to WDW next month before they go back to school. We start early here (8/2) so we are going 7/22-7/28. There was great airfare with Southwest, and Rick will be done with treatments by then so I decided we needed something fun for the summer. I know its going to be stinkin hot, but I miss my "home" and its my happy place! Anyway, its stinkin hot here too! Since DH wont feel like going my 21 yo neice is coming to help (gotta have a fastpass runner) with the kids so we will have a great time.

And I actually got out yesterday a.m. & did 3 miles. 1st time in I dont know how long. It felt great!!!!! Now just to figure out what I'm training for.

I am hoping things have calmed down enough where I can be back here regularly. You guys mean so much to me & I have missed you. And boy do we have a bunch of new members. How great that our crazy addiction is spreading!

Have a great day everyone!

Tiff--Great to hear from you! Glad to hear that things are turning around for your DH! He will continue to be in my thoughts in prayers. And how exciting for you and your kiddos, a trip to WDW. Congrats on the run as well!

DaveSW--Welcome back! Sorry you missed your flight, but it looks as if you made it back in time for a nice father's day! Looks like we're all fighting the heat right now. I just saw the forecast for the weekend and the low is going to be in the 70s! So no matter when I get out this weekend it's going to be a rough run--luckily, this is a step back weekend, so only 5 miles

Well, today is another rest day for me, unless I jump on the TM this evening. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Good morning TEAM!!! Well, yesterday was the first day of marathon training and it was a partial stonker. We won't talk about my time for 3 miles, but lets just say the heat got to me. But on a good note, I got my steps in and I've heard what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. :) Unfortunately, there is no end in sight, today is *only* supposed to be 85 and then back up to the upper 90's until next weekend. My 3 miles tonight should be even more fun, I should just run on TM, but I hate running on the TM!!!!

Tiffany--It's so good to see you back!!! I'm so glad that your DH is doing much better. I'll continue to pray for your whole family.

Carrie--I'm glad to see you back too! I've been worried that you weren't posting because something was wrong. I'm so glad it was just a case of LTO.

Stephanie--I hear ya about this heat, it is brutal!!!!! Stephen was looking online last night, our normal temp's right should be highs in the lower 80's--those are our lows!! It's crazy!

Jen--Did you have a good time with your Mom? I'm hoping you were able to unwind a little bit. Yay for your DH for being a good Samaritan! Especially when he just had knee surgery.

WW Dave--I hope your puppy gets to feeling better! I hate it when Hines is sick or not feeling well, it makes me so worried.

SW Dave--Are settling back into life in the great North? Cool Father's Day gift!

TriMom--I do the stationary bike for xt, I usually do a 30 minute hill program and can bike between 11-12 miles during that time. I love riding the stationary bike, so I know I would love biking for real, I'm just terrified to bike on the roads. Plus, I haven't ridden in a real bike in about 15 years, I'm not sure I even remember how to balance on one!

Laura--I think I would take those shoes back and get different ones. A stabbing pain in your arch does not sound normal. Did you get them from a running store? And have patience breaking in orthodics, when I first started wearing mine in the spring, it was awful. I had pain shooting up my legs and cramping in my calves, I even took them out for a while and ran without them. But one day, they felt okay--no pain or cramping, now I wear them for every run and I don't even notice them anymore. Good luck!!

Well, it looks like I'll have a busy day today, so I better quit ignoring the stacks of paper on my desk. Unfortunately, they just won't go away on their own. :)

Good morning team!!!!

No training to report today, yesterday was a rest day. I have a 4K on tap for tonight, but because I am still trying to lose weight I think I will get a walk in at lunch today. Brought my stuff to work just in case;)

Tiff, so glad you are back and things are going great for DH.

Krista: WTG on getting the steps in.

Dave: Welcome back. Awesome Daddy day gift.

Jackie: Great workout

Jen: Welcome back!!!

Erica: Hope your doggy is feeling better soon.

Yikes, only half way through my post and I gotta run. Have a super day everyone.

Kim

Thank you Krista, rascal is 7 years old and over weight. She is also a strange combination of mixes.

We have a chocolate lab that is healthy as a horse, except for being terrified of storms. It can thunder and she becomes an 85 lb quivering lap dog. That is real fun if you are using your laptop at the time.

Dave:hippie:

WW Dave -- I hope the :dog: is doing better! :goodvibes

Tiffany -- Seeing your post brought tears to my eyes, sweetie. I am so glad to see you here and to know Rick is doing better. And I am sooo happy to know you and the boys have that trip to look forward to.

SW Dave -- welcome back! I am so glad you got home in time to celebrate Father's Day with your family.

Still no training for me. Last night was girls' night out for margaritas (I had less than half of a virgin raspberry drink, thinking I'd be heading to the gym this morning, but no-go). Tonight is a meeting with the kitchen designer. Hoping to get a cross-training session in when I get home. We have a 5k Thursday night and my hip is still bothering me, so I'm glad today is XT and tomorrow is a scheduled rest day.

Tiffany - I am so glad you got out there & put the steps in again! And I am also so glad the end of treatment is near for Rick. What an 'independence' day you guys will have this year, huh? I am so glad to see you posting!

Tiff!!! WHat wonderful news!!!!!! Thankd for the update. Looking forward to seeing you around more often. :grouphug:

SWDave - Yes, 6 miles around the lake. Actually 3 out and 3 back. We went on teh less scenic side, though. Less hills. ;) Welcoem back! Your pix were great!

Krista - :goodvibes Thanks for thinking of me. Sorry I worried you. HAven't seen that the knees aren't holding up, so I'm hoping things are still giong well with you!

Jen? Do we have a Jen here? lol. I'm not one to talk right now. Good job still gettign work outs in with the craziness.

WWDave - Hope the meds help your pup!

Bill - I skimmed something about a crisis. Hope things are going relativeley ;) smoothly again!

Marathonmommy -COngrats on getting out there! If the orthodics are out, maybe you can get inserts frgom teh runnign store for your arches. That does nto sound good. These days, shoess need minimal break in. SHooting pain worries me.

OK, I know I sitll owe shout outs to many. I'll try to keep up better.

We post-poned last nights run to tonight, as it was to be the hottest day of the summer. That says a lot seeing as it's unseasonably hot this year. OI was released from teh DO, so it look slike everyone thinks I'm heeled. Hoping it lasts!

Just a quick note before I investigate the latest "kid crisis" -- DS is at the door wanting to know where dad put the "diamond bracelet" -- since we don't have a diamond bracelet this makes me wonder what in the world he's talking about -- or if my husband has a second identity as an international jewel thief.

Didn't get as long a run/walk over the weekend as I had planned -- about 3 miles after everyone left from the Father's Day festivities at our house. However, at least 2 of that should have kept ahead of the "sweepers" and that included the time it took to climb over the gate. I did get some extra steps in on Saturday by parking way out in the parking lots while I did my BIG grocery shopping at several stores.:woohoo:

Nothing to report for Monday, but planning swimming with the kids this afternoon and hopefully a couple of miles when we get home and it cools off a little.

Dona

Tiffany- I am so happy that Rick is responding to treatment and feeling better! :cheer2: We have missed you around here and hope that you can come play more often.

SWDave- Welcome home! Enjoy your Nano. What color is it?

Last night was xt for me. I swam laps and ran in the pool for an hour. Tonight I will try to get in a SR before I hit the pool again.

Hey everyone! Last night I had an invite to try out Bikini Boot Camp with a friend. I have already signed up for the summer session in July/August for my XT. Holy smokes, they weren't kidding about the boot camp part! What a terrific workout! We met at one of the local parks that had a playground and did some circuit training. 100 jump ropes, 60 sec of V-sit on a balance disk, tricep dips, sit ups with a medicine ball, chin ups, reverse pull ups, step ups, push ups, side lunges....then all around again. And a few times of running up and down a big hill. Whew..!! Tonight I have a 5 miler on tap for tonight.

My Boston buddies.....I am looking at possibly visiting in August (I have a long weekend Aug 6, and I'm hoping an old high school friend to stay with). Are there any 10K races in town that weekend? I'm not sure if the trip will work out yet or not....but I hear from Megan there are cute boys there! Megan, maybe we could meet up for a run or a beverage if I do go?

Dona - Diamond bracelet, eh? Let us know what happens with that one!
Carrie - Yay for being off the injured list!
Cam - I'd be willing to forgo training for a girls' night out with margharitas. Yummy!
WWDave - I can relate to the stories of a dog who is scared of thunderstorms. :wizard: for Rascal.
Kim - Good luck with your 4 km today!
Krista - Good luck in the heat. I hate the TM too...
Tiffany - So glad to hear your DH is doing better. More prayers and PD for you.
marathonmommy - Good luck with your shoes. I'd look at some new ones if they are causing shooting pains in your arches though. Ouch.
MSDave - Welcome home! Glad you made it back in time for Father's Day at Outback. Yummy!
Jackie - Good for you, keeping the TM company!!

OK, back to work. Later everyone!

Last night's training called for 40 minutes at w3/r1. I had to hit the TM as DH is out of town and I needed childcare for the kids. A few notes from last night:
1. I did 3 miles in 39:57. This is notable because my first training goal was to consistently complete 3 miles in less than 40 minutes. Also, I tend to be MUCH slower on the TM and last night I was able to maintain my outside pace.
2. I'm pretty sure I saw an actual quad muscle emerging from underneath my extra padding on my thighs. Yeah me!
3. I found myself looking forward to tomorrow's training which calls for w3/r2. I am actually excited to see if my overall pace improves by adding a little extra running.

Cam, I am now joining you in the quest to finish the equivalent of a 5K in less than 40 minutes!

Happy training everyone!

Great job, Meghan! I am hoping to pull that off for Thursday night's 5k, but this course has a KILLER hill, the worst in Delaware, IIRC, so we'll see how that turns out. ;) Good luck with your quest!

I debated on if I should even post this or not because my two runs since I last reported where less the stellar. I went to run the pond near my house Saturday and made it half way around before I realized my heart wasn't it and I was distracted. So I clicked off my music sat on a bench and just watched the world go by. I did end up running the rest of the pond but when I should have gone out for a second loop I called it quits. It was also hovering up around 90 degrees and humid by that point and I think the heat was getting to my brain. I didn't want to turn my runs into negative things. Today I just did 2 miles as I think I'm still paying for my misadventure on my 3.5 miler last week. My ankle/calf are sore but the good news is it seems minor(and it's slowly getting easier to deal with) and if I don't push too hard it should be better in no time.

Oh the positive(I always need a positive) my xt yesterday was great. I just did some light weight work but my body felt great. I think that if it's still going this well at the end of the week I'll up most of the weight I'm lifting.

Off to run errands now. Happy Monday everyone! I'm sure I'll be back around later.

Megan- I wanted you to know I feel the same way sometimes. I try really hard to remember that every time I train will not always be great, I can have bad days! (that's me coming off of a couple of bad days! :) I just remind myself that it's okay, there's always tomorrow. Good for you in staying positive!

So, here's my training to report:
Saturday- was going to try the tempo workout mentioned in RW this month. Tried, but stopped early. I'll keep building up endurance for this one!
Sunday- 3 miles, and 8 minutes bike.
Monday- supposed to be speed work, felt lousy (my back is out) so I did 2 miles easy.
Today- I did the speed work I was supposed to do yesterday, 3 miles of it,
walked 12:47 1st mile, 12:06 2nd miles, 13:00 3rd mile (uphill). Then I did a 14:00 mile cool down. I'm going to the chiro in a bit.

I am hoping to pull that off for Thursday night's 5k, but this course has a KILLER hill, the worst in Delaware, IIRC, so we'll see how that turns out.

I have a significant advantage over you because it is pretty darn flat around here. Central IL is not known for its hills!

Angie - I have to also suggest the second skin. I got a horrible blister at about mile 18 of the full this year, and I stopped at the med tent. They put that second skin on my foot, wrapped it up in some tape, and sent me on my way. I didn't feel the blister again AT ALL. It was like I didn't have one at all, and it didn't hurt anytime after the race either.

Krista - He is training for the 5K during Marathon weekend at Disney. I wanted to get him started now since he is out of school for the summer. I figured it would be alot easier to maintain during the school year than to start during the school year.

Judy - If David "forgot" to tell me that many people were coming over he would definately be springing for the catering!!

Megan - Don't worry about the stonkers, they happen and we all have rough weeks. Don't let it keep you from posting, sometimes thats just what you need to get you motivated again.

Tiff - It is great to hear that your DH is doing better and that things aren't as hectic anymore.

WW Dave - I had a German Shephard that was exactly like your lab. The smallest hint of a storm and she was trying to force her way into your arms.

Leana - That Bikini Body Bootcamp sounds like a tough work out!!

Here's my training update for today. This morning I took the littlest one in the jogging stroller and ran 3 miles in 24:10 (8:03 mpm). It kicked my behind but I did it!! Eventually I might even be able to do a sub 8 mile!! Then I ran by the house (literally) and picked up Michael who had been watching cartoons and we did his run. 4r/1w for 20 minutes, and he did it!! It was harder of course than last weeks 3r/1w, but he did it none the less. From here on out we will increase his distance a little each week, but keep with the ratio of r4/w1, I think that he is still a bit young to be pushing him to run the whole 5K without walking. I want him to still be able to have fun. I had one of the neighbors stop while Michael and I were running and offer to send her kids out with me too. She thought it was just amazing that Michael was out there running like he was. After I got home I ran outside and mowed the yard as fast as I could, it was threatening rain, and I had to get it done today. Tuesday is the day my Home Owners Association goes through the neighborhood looking at peoples houses. I hadn't mowed mine in like a week and half but it had grown so fast that it was looking rough and I didn't want a letter chewing my butt. Anyway, so now between my "lightning fast" run and my speedy lawn mowing my legs are screaming at me. Especially my calves. I'll ice them down after I get the boys lunch I guess!!
