Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Can y'all believe it's June already?

Terri... :grouphug: sorry to hear of your loss. I saw a lady at WDW this past week in a bright pink Tshirt with a very simple message..."Cancer Sucks".

Sunny...yikes...a herniated disc now too?!? :wizard: :wizard: for fast-healing. Glad you found a doc you can work with. And I LOVE the cafepress stuff!

Amy...congrats on your 5K! Sorry it wasn't a PR, but how spooky...same Bat time, same Bat number ? (sorry...showing my age, but I swear I only watched Batman in reruns ;) )

Christa...great to have you back!

Steve...congrats on the new ride! :woohoo:

Jackie...congrats on the second Garmin! I think if you're within 10 miles of DL, that obligates you to go :thumbsup2 Maybe you need to check out the course for the new half and report back to us :rolleyes1

Dena, Dana...did either of you do the Yulee run today?

Tiff...just think how nice that Mickey medal would look next to your Donald :thumbsup2 Weather at WDW actually wasn't bad after Monday. There was a reasonable breeze most days...we went back to the room from 2 to 5 for DD3 to nap and have dinner which helped miss most of the heat.

Minnie... :wizard: for your continued recovery. When will you be at WDW? My mom's birthday is July 7 so we may take her up there from the 7 to 9th but not firm yet.

Maggie...welcome back! :wizard: for that hamstring!

Kathy...welcome back! Glad you're finally able to move around again. How's the foot and the shoulder?

Dave...congrats on your race! What an amazing improvement in such a short time! :woohoo: Good luck on your next 5K!

Monica...great ride! And congrats on Bolder Boulder...that's definitely on my list of races to do some day!

We're back from WDW and trying to settle back in before returning to work on Monday :crazy2: I'm toying with the idea of doing a 5K on June 17. I did it last year and finished in 44:59...would like to see how much I may have improved.

Anyone read Health magazine? They have a new promotion called Girls on the Move, trying to get women more involved in running. Coach Jenny Hadfield is onboard and designed an 8 week Walk-to-Run program that I'm going to start on Monday. It starts from R4/W2 (just happens to be where I'm at) and ends up at R10/W1. Since I'm doubling up the training weeks again, it flows right into the start of the training for the half. I'm actually planning to use the MFM running program this year...NEVER thought I would do that!

Have a good week!

Mel,
After thinking about it, I decided not to do the Yulee Days since it was a trail run and I've never been off road before. I did do a different 5K which turned out to be torture, but fun! At 8:00am it was 86 degrees and humid with little shade. It was tough but I just kept telling myself that I was going to have fun and not worry about time. Turned out I was only 2 minutes slower than the previous one where the conditions weren't nearly as bad. And I really had fun and feel great for getting out there. :dogdance:

Thanks for asking!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post for right now -- sorry, I kind of dropped out of sight last week. A lot had been going on with my husband's family and I really wanted to be there for him;his father has been going in and out of the hospital, and as of yesterday had to check into the hospital (he will probably be in there at least through Monday).

I am embarrassed to say that I haven't really gotten any running in since last Sunday :guilty: . I hope to turn that around this week :thumbsup2 .

I will be checking in with all of you during the day -- my hope is to start running again tomorrow.

Jodi

Thanks for the encouraging words Mel, I appreciate the support. :goodvibes Did you post a trip report on the other board? I want to hear all about your trip...where did you stay, where you ate, how was the crowd level, so on and so forth

Happy Birthday to you mom - my mom's birthday in on July 19th :cool1:

We will be in Florida from July 8 to July 15th.

Right now we have reservations at the YC for 11th to 15th and havent been able to book anything else that we want yet. We've even tried renting DVC points and everything is booked pretty solid.

So we really do not know what we are going to do yet for the 8 to 10. We have APs that are expiring after this trip so I really want to do a whole week at WDW but at this point we don't know yet.

I'm not Mel but I started my report on the Trip Report Board from our Mother's Day/Flower Show Trip.

BTW - I did my "where we ate" part on the restaurant board a couple weeks ago. See a "Picky Eaters Review" or something like that for it.

Well I finally hit the pavement again! I haven't done any wogging since the Minnie and it felt great. It was great seeing the pavement ahead of me. I only did 2 miles but by 9:15 boy was it hot.

Mel-thanks for the info on Health magazine. I may have to look into that.

Jodi- :wizard: for DH & his family. Do not be embarassed about not getting out there, family comes first :grouphug:

Minnie-keep trying on the reservations. I had trouble getting what I wanted for next week, just kept checking back & they finally had what I needed.

Terri-So sorry for your loss :grouphug:

Have a relaxing Sunday everyone!

We just got back from Sunapee. Chad & I decided to go out and do 2 or 3 miles before it got dark. We both were exhausted during the first mile and stopped at 1! I wonder if we are coming down with something - I've been exhausted all weekend, even with naps!

I'll try to hit the pavement tomorrow and get a good night's rest tonight.

Or maybe just that it was dreary and rained most of the stinking weekend in NH. That's often nap inducing.

Just a quick check in.
PD for the people w/ injuries(Sunny, Steven, Minnie....) and family troubles(Jodi, Terri....) :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I did the Mooseman Half Ironman around Newfound Lake in NH today. Will do race report after the official results are posted. Finished a little slower than the FL/Disney 70.3 2 weeks because I tanked the bike. My bike split was almost 18 minutes slower than FL(it might have been a BIT hillier) but I had a good(for me) swim and ran a 2:09 half marathon off the bike which I was pleased with. The second mile was 16 minutes due to a prolonged porta pottie stop. Only one lady in front of me but I swear she read a book or something during her turn. So I managed to negative split the run. Really suprised me because I felt soooo bad for the first three miles.

A link that includes some interesting info about the race I did today(and another I'm doing in August and oh yeah, a comparison to one I did in 2002 and 2003 and plan on again in 2007). Sunny, are you still considering doing the Timberman sprint? It probably depends on how your back heals though:(

Thanks everyone for the :grouphug: and :wizard: . My aunt's funeral is on Thursday. The hard part will be getting my Mom through it.

I went out for a run/walk tonight (1st one all week). I did 4 miles and was hoping to negative split the last two. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. The return portion was mostly uphill and I walked a lot of it. Have I ever said I HATE HILLS! :)

My total time was 57:45. I happy that I was still ahead of the sweeper time.
I finished the 1st 2 miles in 28:08. But it took 29:37 on the return.

Lynn - Congrats on your race. I can only dream of a 2 hour 1/2 marathon :teeth:

Did anyone see the July edition of Runners World? John Bingham has an article in there about this year's Inaugural Goofy Challenge. He talks about feeling lousy during and after the 1/2 and worrying how he would handle the full. He says he felt great during the full and it turned out to be a satisfying day. In talking about people exceeding their limits I liked his last line: "You can't finish if you don't start."

Terri

Another drive by post, but I don't want to slip out of the habit of checking in here. I have been a bit slack on training lately so I really need to be here to stay motivated.

Mel, the "noodlers" are definitely back in the pool! I haven't been there much though because I like to swim when they go home to make dinner. That's when the afternoon thunderstorms have been rolling in.

Dave, your improvement since Jan is awesome!

Jodi, Terri, PD for you and your families. :tinker:

Sunny, hope your disc heals quickly.

Lynne, great job on the Mooseman!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Well, I really did it this time. I think Lily's message to me last week to not overdo it was very prophetic. I had my 5K yesterday which was the culminating event of my AP Learn to Run 12 week training program. It was a cold, drizzly, rainy day - good for running. I was happy with my time - 29:44 min for 9:35 mpm pace. This was the 2nd race in a week and I ran ~9:30 mpm for both of them. Yay!

So because this was the final event for my Fleet Feet learn to run group. I wanted to really see what I could do. I wanted to see if I could run 9 min miles for the 5K. I paired up with a woman from our group who I knew ran around 8 min miles, and thought I would start with her to get me to go a little faster than I usually start out. I'm looking at my Garmin now and see my split for the first mile was 8:21 min. Hmmm, that was faster than I wanted to go. Then it hit me... shin pain was back! My shins were bothering me before the run started, but hey, they always do and usually it goes away. This time the shin pain did not go away.

My right shin was really killing me, but I kept going. Mile 2 was in 9:58 mpm pace, but it was uphill so that wasn't so bad. By Mile 3 I was really hurting. The 3rd mile I ran in 10:22 mpm, but I don't know how I kept that up. Here's the funny thing. Who's standing at the 3rd mile marker cheering on runners? My physical therapist who has been working with me. He sees me and says "Now I know why you've been coming to see me." I laugh and call back "Yeah, so when can I come in again?" He goes, "tomorrow!" Turns out I am already scheduled to see my orthopaedist today at 2:45p. I need it because when I finished the race, I was limping. My right shin is killing me. I iced it 3-4x yesterday for 20 min a pop. I took Allieve and Motrin, and the pain hasn't gone away. I can't really put any weight on my leg, and when we were going to bed my DW said "your lower leg and foot has really swelled up."

Uuugh, I think I have a stress fracture. Shoot! To be honest, maybe it's not so bad. I've been dealing with shin pain all along since January. Maybe if I finally have a stress fracture, I can get it healed up and move on to run pain free. I don't know... :confused3 I am worried about how this is going to affect my training for WDW. Crap, I just turned in my money for the full too. Uuugh... my neighbors saw me and said, "So I guess this will end your running, right?"

:guilty: Dave!! Oh no....I sure hope everything is ok. Don't throw in the towel....you don't have to start training for the full until August or Sept....you have plenty of time to heal! Just take care of yourself now and try to stay positive about the running. I know it's hard when you're staring an injury in the face, but remember it's only June!!! :grouphug: Best of luck and report back after you see the doctor today.

Terri: :grouphug: So sorry to hear about your Aunt. :sad2: I will be thinking about you and your mom.

Sunny: :guilty: Sorry to hear about your back. Wow, it's been such a tough few months for you. Heal up and follow doctors orders...you'll be back to training in no time.

Jodi: :sad2: Pixie Dust for your fil....very stressful. I sure hope he's doing ok today. If you're able to get out there running today...good luck!!!

Oops, sorry about that Minnie, I'm anxious to read your reports. Thanks. I'll see you all in about a week..heading to Ne. for my step daughters wedding. Have a great week everyone! :goodvibes

Monte - Mel also went to WDW so you weren't wrong. I just went also in May so I have started a trip report about that.

Dave - Ouch :wizard: :grouphug: Please let us know what your DR says we are all thinking about you :wizard: :grouphug:

No way will this end your running! You will show them! Some people. :furious: As others have said, you do not have to start training for WDW until August or September. Take it easy and get better soon. :wizard:

It was back to the gym this morning for me. My official training for the DL 1/2 starts next Monday, but I decided to start early. I did 45 minutes of run3/walk2. It really felt effortless. I can feel myself getting stronger every workout, and that makes me feel great. :)

Here is the link if you would like to see my Beach to Bay Relay Marathon photo: www.brightroom.com/stf.asp?EVENTID=12457&PWD=&ID=23580672

Speaking of the latest edition of Runner's World, there was an article in there about a web site that allows you to map your route and get accurate mileage calculations. It is very easy to use, and you can save your route information for others to use. For those who travel a lot, you can use it to find running routes in practically any location. Too cool. For those without garmins, you can map out a route around your town and calculate the exact distance. Here is the link for that: www.usatf.com/routes

Good morning all!!!

Dena-- Great job!!! :thumbsup2 See, all it takes is geting back out there!

Terry and Jodi-- Much PD headed your way for your family issues. Terri, so sorry to hear of your loss.

Lynne-- Great job with the tri!!!! A 2:09 half marathon is fantastic if you are just running it by itself, let alone after all that swimming and biking!! Wonderful job!!

Dave-- Sorry to hear about your shin pain. I think you might be right though, if it can be diagnosed then at least you know what's causing it and it'll give you time enough to heal before really training hard for the full. When I first started running I had some pretty bad shin pain myself, so I understand where you are coming from.

I completely tanked this weekend. :guilty: I just don't know where this is coming from... I start off gangbusters on Monday and Tuesday and then by the weekend I am lucky if I get anything in. I need a swift kick in the rear or something :) I have a 5K in 2.5 weeks that I feel totally unprepared for and then next thing you know it'll be August 22nd-- the big 20 weeks out mark. Time to get my rear in gear :)

I hope everyone had a more successful training weekend than I did.

Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:
