Wk of July 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I've been moving, just not fast these days. Change is on the horizon for me and I expect that will be giving me all the time I need to get myself out there and moving properly with some left over.

Lily - I hope this is a good change and something that is wanted..

[I am also here to report my huge effort tonight. I wasn't feeling well yesterday (stomach flu) and missed a scheduled LR (8 miles). I woke up with similar symptoms but decided to go to work anyway. I am glad I did. I managed to get through the day without any outward signs of my flu like symptoms. I didn't eat much yesterday nor did I drink much for fear of getting more ill. So, I was basically running on empty (other than lunch today) when I hit the streets tonight on my usual "Rest Day".

For the second time in my life I actually hit "the Wall" during my running tonight. It came upon me somewhere around 3.25 miles. It is evident in my split times listed above. Unfortunately other than some warm G2, I had nothing to nourish my depleated body. I literally had to sit down and rest through two songs on my iPod. It was in excess of 85 degrees (5:30 PM) and had to be close to 90% humidity, it had just rained less than an hour before my run.

Howard

Howard - Take it easy with the humidity. Living with it all the time, I notice there is a definate jump where it gets harder around the middle of July. It saps everything out of you. Take it easy before Cam has to start making you. ;)

I'm looking into getting a hybrid bike. Anyone with suggestions?

Mel - Lynnda and I both have the Trek FX7.3 and we love it. Lynnda's has actually gotten her through a couple of tri's as well. It seems like a good bike for a decent price.

Wow this thread really flies. No wonder I gave up on it!!

Lily: I hope your change is a happy one and one that you have chosen for yourself!

Howard: I had a similar 8-mile run on Sunday just without the stomach thing. I had to make a 911 call to the cavalry to bring my Accelerade at mile 7 so I hear you on the overheated issue. Careful out there everyone!!

Shan: Sorry for the complications. I hope you are better soon. You have talked me out of the surgery for sure now!

Mel: Sorry to hear you will be on the IR. I hope this turns out to be nothing serious.

Jackie: VA Beach 2009 or 2010? I have not made plans past Goofy 2010 so that amazes me if you are into 2010 already.

Kristi: How's it going?

Everyone else: I just can't do it. I just cannot keep up with this thread. So, I apologize to anyone that I miss. I WISH I could respond to everyone.

As for me, we loaded and unloaded and stacked 991 bales of hay yesterday in 5 hours. I am a little sore in my back and shoulders today but nothing too major. There are 4-6 miles on tap for me today and as of right now, I plan on 4 but if I am feeling good, it could go up. My legs are definitely not sore. I have noticed a huge improvement in my stamina now that I am running more. I also have grown mentally in that we were on our last load, I was starving, hot, tired, and at that place during your run where you have to talk to yourself. I just kept telling myself I was almost there and went to that happy place that pulls me through. Yay for small victories!!

I hope everyone has a great day and :wizard: to all the unwell!!

Hello teammates! Back from a wonderful vacation at the beach. Tried to talk Scott into staying longer, but that whole darn "we're not the Rockefeller's " business came up!:rotfl: Now we're back and already back working.

Did manage 2 workouts while on vacation and gained some weight (stepping on the scale was SO depressing on Monday) So, I got myself to the gym yeseterday, despite the crocodile tears from my DD. Did 3.5 miles on the elliptical and some arm weight work. Will try for another workout today if babysitting ends early.

Julie - Is it a burning sensation or more like a regular hurt? Just a regular hurt, is liekly your hamstrings. My best stretch for that is downward dog. If it's burning, we can talk further....

Mel - :grouphug: and :wizard: Hope a little rest can help. Nothing wrong with onluy runnig 3 days a week. I know my legs are loving not runnign so much right now.

Lisa - OMG. That's a heck of a work out!

Jen - When's your mom going? I'll be back this weekend. HOping all goes well adn this will be my last trip, but the hardest part is yet to come. My ILs have been there for 4 differnt things and have always gotten wonderful care. :wizard: that they can help your mom! SOrry you were sick for the 4th!

Terri - Oh, I fel oyour booty pain, and I've only done 1:45 on teh bike, 2 days apart.

Howard - Please be careful, it's awful hot and sticky to be pushing.

Jackie - lol. NOt too bad for teh ache today. Hope your aches are better soon!

Shan - :grouphug: and :wizard: taht things arelooking better soon. Hope it's not too long before you are happy you went through with it. You've been through so much with training, that I know you will be back in action soon!!

Morgan - Hope you got out yesterdy, but hope you took it easy. 90? :scared1: BTW, slow and easy is how you get your confidence back.

Well, I did a 45 min and 15 min run last night. Through this trianing, I've been thinkign "No problem, I can run 4.5 miles easy." Ummmm, yeah, not so confident now. Yikes was that a looong 15 min.

Thanks everyone. :grouphug:

Lisa, I wouldn't recommend this surgery to anyone right now! It has been tough! I knew going in it wouldn't be easy, though so I shouldn't really complain.

Really I could have dealt with all the pain and swelling if it wasn't for my wounds issue. It is really gross and is a major mental struggle for me right now. Very hard not to cry.

I'm swollen to the point I look like I'm six months pregnant! The size large Fleexes I bought the other day were too small, I finally had to take them off cause it hurt so bad. I got on the scale this morning and I weighed 105, three pounds less than before surgery. I almost couldn't believe it cause I'm like three times as wide as before! I've been reduced to wearing three sundresses I have.

I will survive, though! :thumbsup2

Carrie - I am not sure when my mom is going. They are working on the referral and appointment, so it may not be this week. I was so hoping to get to see you, but these are not the greatest of conditions!

Nothing great and wonderous to report from me. After finally getting the AC back on at work, I was in no condition to work out last night (tho I smelled like I already had!!!). So instead I worked on making some custom clothes for the girls for our August trip. I made DD7 a Tink dress (not costume) (DD5 will get a princess one). I also worked on a Strawberry Shortcake outfit for DD5, tho that one isn't for Disney. I love having girls... and will keep loving them as long as I can make frilly things for them!

Julie - Is it a burning sensation or more like a regular hurt? Just a regular hurt, is liekly your hamstrings. My best stretch for that is downward dog. If it's burning, we can talk further....

Carrie, thanks for the advice. It's definitely a regular hurt, not a burning. I was doing some looking online and, from what I read, I was guessing it was a hamstring issue. I don't know downward dog, but my 9 & 7 yr olds do (their gym teacher at school is a yoga instructor), so I'll have them teach me. Thanks again! :goodvibes

P.S. I love the Pooh quote in your signature. That's always been one of my favorites!

Drive by....hopefully I will have more to report training-wise this evening!

Since we seem to be obsessed with cake, ice cream and such around here - here's a couple pics from Zack's birthday party.

Hi everyone!

PD and well wishes to everyone injured/sick.
WTG for everyone getting out there and doing!

Please watch the heat/humidity combo. Tried going out last night before dinner. Not good. Stopped about 1/2 mile from the house to cross a construction mess and realized everything was swimmy. Hadn't brought anything with to drink since was only planning on 3-4 miles so turned around and walked back. I've had heat stroke once and do not care for a repeat. Think I'll wait until a little later to go out and eat first. And carry liquids.

Have a great day1

Liz: Yes, be careful with the heat/humidity levels. I was just reading an article that recommends getting out early when doing running/walking in the mid-summer times. This is something I really need to do on my longwalk days.
Remember to hydrate more when you are a drippy mess. When the humidity is high and your dripping, the body is not cooling as well as if the humidity was lower and the sweat could evaporate more quickly. Be sure to hydrate the day before and right before going out for the WO.

Julie - Is it a burning sensation or more like a regular hurt? Just a regular hurt, is liekly your hamstrings. My best stretch for that is downward dog. If it's burning, we can talk further....

Thanks

Julie - SOrry you have pain, but glad it's just the "normal" kind. Hammy strtches can do wonders.

Kim - From my experience, burning pain is a nerve thing. The fact that you have numbness leads me that direction too. I don't think x-rays would shouw a pinched nerve if it wasn't bones pinching it. While it sounds like a nerve, I don't know what nerve runs tha direction or what could be causing it. :guilty:

OK, everyone's really getting me worried with teh heat. Lots of fluids adn take it very easy everyone!

hey my post disappeared, glad you knew what i was still talking about Carrie:hug: .

Dr thought it was a pinched nerve..... doesn't bother me really but a bit annoying.

Thanks for the info

Hi folks? You miss me? :lmao: Sorry I've been MIA, but a lot of LTO has kept me away from a normal routine. Long story short, my father's been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. I've missed you all, and am very happy to be back in the virtual arms of my WISHmates.

I've just skimmed this week's thread, but will try to keep up-to-date from here on out. I don't have a lot of time to catch up and can't do everyone's posts any justice--so I won't try to catch up with everyone. And this time I actually mean it! ;) (Yay that the weekly thread is so active, though!)

So I'll just say the following: I hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays and that they were filled with lots of family and friends, more than a little laughter, and good running/walking moving. I'm glad so many people are enjoying the summer, that our collective injuries seem relatively minor (PD Shan, Julie, Mel, Kim, and anyone else I missed), that so many of us are participating in a wide variety of events, that old faces are returning to the weekly thread, that new WISHers are dropping by here, and our faithful posters keep the thread moving along and upbeat.

Hello--back from Massachusetts and out today for my first run in a while. Sick of complaining, so let's just say it wasn't successful and more work is needed to figure out how to keep up my fitness while I get rid of the hip/knee pain.

Back to work tomorrow--just couldn't go in today without having a day home to decompress--especially from the border crossing. I respect the Homeland Security people--but why does it take 1-1/2 hours to cross the border!!

Maura

Well, my goal of getting back with it in July? Not so much. I did get a mile in yesterday, though, which is better than nothing, right? Right??

Just a total lack of energy lately. :sad2:

Debra: Sorry to hear about your Dad's Diagnosis. My Dad was diagnosed about a year ago. Then went the blood work every 3 month, then biopsies and now the decision as to how to treat it. He did go to 2 other doctors to get other opinions and talked to some other men around his age to see what they did. He and his doctor have decided that "seeding" will be the treatment they will go with. Tomorrow he has a scan to be done to determine where the seeds will go. He can't have any solids tonight, so my mom is out getting some chicken and rice and beans before he gets home. Hope all works out for your Father and it can be treated well.
Glad to see you back!!!!

Debra -

I took Zack to the Fitness University running clinic tonight. I walked the track while he did what he does with the 5-year-olds. I managed to do 3 miles. It was not speeding by any stretch of the imagination. BUT, considering it was still about 90 degrees at 6pm, humid, and I haven't been doing much exercise lately - I will take it! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! I haven't been around much except the odd post on the Jessica's Rabbits thread.

Sending PD to anyone who needs it. pixiedust:

WTG to everyone running races. I haven't had any races since Minnie and the only one I'm signed up for is ToT. So training has a bit hard motivation wise. I envy those who have races coming up. Good luck to you all!! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is enjoying a lovely summer!
