Wk of July 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Quick sprint by...

Heading out the door from work, to do my usual 8 with Guru Les. I'll try to do 9 minute pace today. Check back later.

Yeah, tomorrow is Aloha Friday!:thumbsup2

I'm back. I was feeling good today, as I ran 8.13 miles, part way up Diamond Head, at 8:40 average pace. Jeeze, Les had me running smooth today. No loss of breath, and still able to have a conversation.

For anyone looking to improve their speed, find yourself a faster runner to train with. It really improves your running pace!

Kevin~ Nice to see you around. Take it easy while you are still getting back into it. Don't be a stranger. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! I didn't get a chance to run last night after work due to thunder storms. Once they cleared out it was pretty close to dark and really steamy. I gave myself the night off ( I feel really guilty when I do that :confused3 ).

I also kind of saved myself for a 5K that I knew I would be running today. I ran the Catherine Rooney's Irish Pub 5K which benefitted the Delaware Ulster Project. Here are the results of my efforts:

Miles: 3.1
Time: 25:17
Pace: 8:09

Splits:
6:59
8:24
9:58 (up hill at the end.... ugh :headache: )

The official results are not posted but I think I may have come in top 10 in my age bracket, not really sure though. There are some fast men out there in my age group.

Here are the results from my last 3 5K's (all this summer) since graduate school ended:

Andrew McDonough Memorial 5K......6/20......26:23......8:34
Wellness Community Run for Cliff......6/22......25:32......8:13
Catherine Rooney's 5K....................7/10......25:17......8:09

Keep up the training!

Howard--Awesome race! You are getting super speedy!

AlohaJeff--sub-9:00 pace up Diamond Head--you rock!

Last night was Zumba. We had a substitute instructor last night and she was so hard on us. She pushed the 45 min class to over an hour and really worked us out. She was really funny saying that if we just wanted to dance we could go to a club, we came to workout and she wasn't going to waste our time. I am very sore this morning. I also did about 15 min of ab work.

Today maybe or may not be a rest day. Depends on what DD decides to do today. If she decides zoo or movie, rest day--if she wants to go to the club pool, might as well hit the gym if I'm already there.

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes... I can't tell you how good it feels to finally get back out there after such a long layoff. But SHEESH I feel out of shape....

Judy-- I sent you a PM. A massage sounds nice for sure.... I had one a couple weeks ago and it actually did wonders. Somehow I need to figure out how to go back more frequently. You are officially zebra-btt kicker numero uno.

Carrie-- Hope things are a little less chaotic now... I heard something about a triathlon?? :worship: :worship:

Tracey-- Define "cooler...." This is my first Florida summer and I DEFINATELY need to figure out a way to modify my training. Guess I need to start getting up at 5am to run.... But hey... at least it stopped raining!!

Howard-- :worship: :worship: Yeah... ain't no way I'm keeping up with you this year. No way, no how.

So I ran an easy 2 miles at 20:55 today... not my best pace for sure, but I was pain free and my cardio felt all right... However, I didn't quite believe it when the computer said it was 85 degrees at 9am, but it was. :faint" There's just no way to get used to that kind of heat....

Have a great weekend and happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Mic check, check one, check two, check three...

Hey is this thing on? Anyone out there?
Where is everybody, on vacation? I sure didn't get the memo :lmao: .

Not sure if teh chaos is over. The stress sure isn't. :guilty: Training for a new adventure is just keeping us sane right now. See below. It's the abbreviated version.

Quick update on FIL: FIL got stem cell/bone marrow transplant today. Of course, teh only reason we're here is because Scott got sick adn sick peole really shouldn't visit those without an immuune system. Go figure. :sad2: So, at least there's a calm weekend at home on tap. Things should get better from here out, though.

Given that I had a half day already scheduled, I took it off anyway. Got some rock for my garden adn spent 2 hours movign and planting them. (Over 400 pounds) So, I got my XT!

I wish they'd let us know when everyone is planning to leave en masse! I'm beginning to feel a little left out - keep checking the computer and finding out that no one has posted in hours, or even days!

Anyway, I'm just happy it's Friday, and I can report that I've worked out for 8 consecutive days. Assuming I get up and meet the group for our 14 miler tomorrow, it will be 9 days. I had to fight with my legs on the TM yesterday - we compromised at a 2.5 mile run with a .5 mile walk added for a total of 3 - after my Tour de Living Room the night before, apparently they weren't up for running at 5:30AM. I got even with the legs though - went to the chiro and let him work on the cramp in my calf - walked out of his office whimpering, but I think I'm on the road to recovery now! :)

Howard - AMAZING times! :worship:

Kevin
- Welcome to the South! You're right - you never get used to the heat.

Duckie/Stephanie - The boat is our favorite part about WL. AKL is my favorite (WL is a VERY close 2nd), but DH and DD prefer WL because of the transportation.

Jackie

HEY TEAM REMEMBER ME???:confused3

I'm sorry I keep coming and going but the good thing is I know everyone here understands how it goes. The other good news is, my lack of posting does not mean lack of training. In fact I pulled off a whole 7 (hot, sweaty, icky, nasty, disgusting) miles last Saturday morning and I survived.

I have still been trying to throw in the cross training, spinning, yoga, wieghts and I did run 5 on the treadmill tues night with some little intervals of "picking up the pace" . The knee continues to improve in fact by Tuesday it was virtually pain free for the first time since MINNIE and then as I always do when I am feeling good, I pushed it too hard on the treadmill and it is nagging a little again. But it continues to improve!!!!

Getting a little nervoud about starting marathon training next month. My goal is to build up to 10 by August 1 when we start "training". I am still trying to find a training plan that seems to suit us, since when we trained for our 1/2 2 years a go we did not follow a plan, just kind of did "whatever".

Sorry this post is all about me I have not had any time to catch up but I really wanted to jump on here and say HI I miss you guys.
:grouphug:

Hey, you heard me! :woohoo:

Jackie & Angie :wave2:

Uh, Jackie, you're overtraining. Always have one day of rest between workouts. Your body needs to recover. 8 hours of sleep, and naps if you can get them.

Don't end up looking like this :headache: .

Jeff - Thanks for the concern, but I'm not really training as hard as it may sound. Schedule looks something like this:
Sun - Upper body/Pilates (:30 total)
Mon - 3 mile run
Tue - Upper body/Pilates
Wed - Bike
Thu - 3 mile run
Fri - Upper body/Pilates
Sat - Long run

I'm doing the upper body stuff at home with 10 lb weights, so we're not talking heavy duty workout, and the legs definitely get a day off in between (except for this week when the bike fell the night before the run - that wasn't supposed to happen!) I'll probably take Sunday as a complete rest day to recover completely.

And naps? My favorite thing! :thumbsup2

Aloha Jeff: I heard you! Here I am!

WellesleyPrincess: Sounds like you got a good workout in. Good job!

Racey Tracy: I tell myself that I have the summer "off" to help me get through the school year. I never really have the summer off--teacher camp, work, weddings, and WDW always fill up my time! I was hoping we'd get to Biscayne National Park this summer, but I don't think it's in the cards. My uncle (who asked us to visit him in Miami Lakes) is in Taiwan visiting my other uncle and then in California at his stepson's wedding in August. Maybe next summer!

Howard: Woohoo! Well done! You're really fast!

Stephanie: Wow--busy! Great work getting the steps in! Um, what's a Zumba? :confused3

Kevin: I have so much trouble working out in the heat--I admire you (and the rest of the tropical part of our team) for doing it all the time. I had asked my dr if my need to use my inhaler once an hour was a lot during the Minnie, but he said not in that kind of weather! I can't imagine how much hotter it is now!

Carrie: You planted 400 pounds of rocks? Sounds like you're going to grow an entire petrified forest!

Jackie: I'm still here! Way to go on 8 days of workouts--I need to get off the sofa! [Deb, Mel, keep reading--I was off the sofa today] And I'll let you know what I think of WL. We stayed in AKL for our honeymoon (I wanted to stay there this time since DH is seriously contemplating AK DVC), but I couldn't sleep through the night because I kept getting up to see who was outside. DH kept asking what I was doing (Look! Ankole cattle!). :sad2: I think he's going to like the boat.

Angietuck: So glad to see you! Wow--that's a lot of working out. I really need to buckle down...

As for me.... We went to the beach today. I walked about a mile on the soft sand (my calves were burning!) and did little sprints on the wet sand by the water's edge with the dog. I'm going to get some working out in while we watch tv tonight. The backsplash is almost done (I just sat on the couch and offered advice--i didn't actually DO it), and the kitchen is starting to come together. I've been meaning to ramp up the exercise to slim my thighs for WDW, but that's wishful working out anyway.

WDW question: Cali grill a nice dinner for grownups even if you have to take an early evening ressie? Or should we look for someplace else (we've never eaten there)?

Have a great evening!

Well, DD's choice was to go swimming today--so since I was already at the club, got a workout in. 3.25 miles in 30min. Not to shabby considering I'm running next to nothing right now! And then a little arm work--then off to relax/bake at the pool.

Duckie, I second Shan's comment. Obviously, Cali Grill is best during the fireworks, but it is a fabulous dinner and experience no matter what time you go. We also really liked Kona Cafe at the Polynesian.

Jackie

Hey all, I'm Here JEFF!!!
I'm always here and I think you and I were the only ones around last week for a few days. Nice running at Diamondhead!!

Duckie: Hey girlfriend!! Nice workout at the beach (I still can't picture a beach in New Jersey - hehe) Miami Lakes is about a 30-40 min drive south from me. There are lots of nice county/state/ and national parks down here in Southern Florida. WL and AKL sounds nice, maybe one day I'll get to stay there. Tend to do the POP thing alot and since we got about 3-4 times a year its affordable that way. Keep up with staying off the couch!!

Kevin: I mean cooler because you tend to get better breezes coming off the ocean that I do, being that I am more inland than you. Yes, I find getting up early and getting it done it much easier on the body. Later it is just hotter and its hotter at 5pm than it is at 6am. Also being that it is your first summer here, my advice is to keep and eye on a few things, temp/humidity and wind. If the temp and humidity numbers are almost the same then be VERY careful. No matter how much you sweat it will not evaporate and just dripps off of you and actually makes you feel warmer, if there is a good breeze then it will feel better. Even throwing water over you doesn't work well because again it won't evaporate. Good luck and keep up the training.

As for me - I did my Summer Training/beat the humid heat wave 08 schedule and it was kinda hard to change my routine. I had to go home after work to feed my dog (not one else at home) let her out, changed clothes and went out and did my 4 miles. A bit sweaty, but had a great breeze this evening coming from the East. So tomorrow I will not walk!!!!! I will some other cross training and then try and get 10 miles in on Sunday. I just got my new pair of NB902s in the mail and I am lacin then up as I speak. Next up: bowl of Edy's Light Cookies and Cream Ice cream with Hershey's SHell chocolate topping. Yum!!

Atta girl Tracy,

Ice cream before training. I tend to reward myself after my runs, but I like your style! :thumbsup2

You must have gone to the "Deb's I eat ice cream anytime school of fitness" :lmao: .:cake: :drinking1 :mickeybar :drinking:

Ms. Duckie: I love Spoodles, the Yachtsman's Steakhouse, or Narcoosies. Cinderella's Banquet with our girls was fun.

Jeff: NOnononononono....I already did my 4miles, took a shower, ate my dinner and answered some emails. Watched some SPEED TV and now I'm doing the icecream!! It's 9:20pm here.

Sounds neat to eat the ice cream before the walk, but my stomach would be in a rumbly mood and not like me much. :lmao:

Hey everyone!

Just a quick drive by as someone seems to think we need to do the things on the To Do list....:confused3

Temps here today 90 with high humidity so took the workout inside. 13 miles on bike, 1.65 on TM and 30 min stretching/core. Feel pretty good.
Want to get in 6 miles walking tomorrow but once again they're calling for storms. Guess I'll see if I can find a break during the day to get out there. Really don't want to do 6 miles on the TM. :headache: Sunday is a big bike ride so can't switch days either.

Sorry all about me, but gotta run. Hopefully I'll have time Sunday to catch up.

Have a great weekend!!

Tracy: We have over 100 miles of coastline. Today we went to Island Beach State Park, which preserves the natural state of the dunes and the area.
IMG_2068-1-1.jpg

Here's Robin and DH posing on the beach today.

Also, DH made a bid for Pop, but I wanted 5th anniversary romance. :) I hope at some point we can find ourselves at one of these lovely resorts together. :)

Shan and Jackie: Thanks, I'll look into booking it.

Aloha Jeff: We did Spoodles last summer (wonderful!). We had lunch at Cindy's a couple years ago and that was a nice time, too. I was considering Narcoosees, too...

Liz: I hate when *someone* makes us do stuff on the to do list! Say hi to Pat for us!

Tracy: My mother baked some of the blueberries we picked into a pie, and today my brother's friend stopped by and refused to wait until the pie was cooled to eat it. You should have seen his shirt after he attempted to eat hot blueberry pie while driving. And his pants. They were blue, too....
