Wk of Jan 28--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hmmm, I don't actually add ice to the water for my cold soak. I think that's b/c our water is super cold!:scared1: But I wear a hooded sweatshirt and get a steaming cup of coffee to warm my upper half! And, I was really skeptical at first (even though my analytical brain knew the science made sense)-but today, after 18 yesterday, I have NO residual pain!!! :cool1: I would've never considered a cold soak before reading about it here--so you guys have saved me a lot of unnecesary pain!:thumbsup2

Steve--Great time on those 10 miles!

Jim--20 miles for fun??? Did I miss something here???;)

blueroses--Wow on your 11 miler!:yay:

Jackie-miles are miles no matter how fast! Great on going the longest distance for you to date!:cheer2:

Mel--have fun at WDW with no crowds--We were there last Jan. and loved how empty it was--and this year we're going Easter week:eek:

cecilia--the way it sounds--you are one of those naturally fast people! Great time this weekend!!

Kim--WTG on getting your DH signed up!

Rest day here for me today. So instead of any kind of workout, I've been doing laundry :laundy: Exciting, I know! But time to get back to my kiddos, and check on DH--he's doing the taxes today, so I need to go see how much $$$ we can spend on running attire--wonder how much WISH gear I can get with our refund??????

Hey DISers! I love checking in here. It makes me feel good to know that I can ask a group of friendly people questions and get friendly responses (and find out that other people wonder the same things), so here goes:

How long after a marathon do you have to wait before doing another? I want to do one on May 27th and one on July 15th. I know it's a short amount of time (month and a half), but I figure my mileage will already be up, and I can reverse taper, do a couple LRs, and then taper down again within those weeks (allow 2 to reverse, 2 for training, 2 for taper). I hope that's okay, but please tell me if I am actually INSANE! (But I might not listen, I really want the t-shirts...)

Also, my friend who I have been training with for the May 27th marathon has been having a bit of a problem with her feet. She is kind of perhaps injury prone, or believes herself to be, and last year had some problem with her legs hurting. She has ankle and knee braces for both legs, but the balls of her feet keep going pins-and-needles and then completely numb. She says it is not her shoes, and that the knee braces kind of help it, but I am just confused. Perhaps you all have an idea? I keep telling her to see a doctor, but she says that it's probably nothing and if she can't train she just won't do the race. Of course, I am the worrier, as I have been for all 20 years of our friendship!

I am about to finish up some dishes and housekeeping:laundy: , then I am going to the gym to log my 45 minutes. I am trying to follow my training plan as closely as I can, which had me running at 12:30 a.m. yesterday morning:scared1: (Friday night after babysitting). It was so great to be the only person in the health club and not have to compare to anybody else!:cloud9:

I am confused about treadmill speeds and pacing. I work out on a TM for most of my workouts right now, and I warm up at 3.5, walk at 4.0, and I am aiming to spend most of my time at 6.0. I figured that meant 6 MPH, or 10 min/mile. I am using the Nike+ system, which seems to transmit the same, but now I'm worried that I'm actually going slower?! EEK!:scared1:

Perhaps I should try an ice bath tonight to get my muscles ready for the work week ahead. Tomorrow is the start of Catholic Schools Week, and I get to wear lounge clothes to school -- I'm afraid that I'm gonna fall asleep!:rolleyes1

Best wishes to all for a great start to your week!
Keep up the hard work and keep putting forth the solid effort!
Ashley

Just a quick post while I happen to be awake. Somehow I caught the cold that is going around the area so for the past few days, I have felt horrible and can't breathe. That made the LR be cancelled yesterday. I am able to breathe a little more but the tylenol cold and NyQuil are helping me sleep all the time and not make much sense when I am awake. Hopefully tomorrow will have more progress and I can do something outside.

Bill

Hi everyone i was hoping to join up again i was here a little over a year ago but got crazy once i moved back to the country and got married but im back and registering for a 1/2 marathon march 11th in sac.

Mel - Hope you're having fun at the World.

Cecilia - You speedster you. Great job! :thumbsup2

Blueroses - Knocking off 9 minutes. Keep it up.

Jim - 20 miles. Great job!

Laurie - Great job on the 5 miles. Three more weeks and they'll be racing at Daytona. I can't wait!

:)

Went to work this morning but could only hack it for 3 hours. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

Jim: 20 Miles WOW:worship: . We had a great thread going back in Oct 05 for our 1st disney cruise, I think that was the last time he posted and then he didn't post that much he just always got me to chat for him or ask questions.

Laurie: Great pace:thumbsup2 We love curling, much more of a workout then I would have ever thought. Blisters are healing nicely, but back to the gym tomorrow, I will double up my socks or even use my old shoes for awhile.
Thank you for asking:hug:

Marie: WTG on getting in your workouts, 2.5m run is awesome.!!!:cheer2:

Colleen ...yikes....:scared1: I am cold just reading your post. i still prefer my hottub but I am not doing any big distances yet.

Jackie: Glad to hear your are starting to feel better, congrats on the distance is DD doing the Minnie with you??

Steve Congrats on the 10 Miles:yay:

Bill: Hope you feel better soon.:flower3:

Kim10110::welcome:

Vic: I am working on it, He is working 14 hour days next week:crazy2: so I hope to get him on next week.

Monte: Hope you feel better soon.:wizard:

Well early to bed tonight, gotta hit the gyn at 5:30, I will use a different treadmill again and see what happens

Hope you all have a great night.

Kim

Went to work this morning but could only hack it for 3 hours. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.
I am right there with you!
Having a fever / sinus / cold / achy thing for 2 days straight is not like me. I am getting to the doctor tomorrow.
Needless to say, training at all has gone out the window. Or does watching hours upon hours of tv while laying on the couch or recliner count? Even I am getting sick of TV!

It's nice to hear about everyone's training - can't wait to get back out there with you guys!

Jackie: Glad to hear your are starting to feel better, congrats on the distance is DD doing the Minnie with you??

Kim - We're not doing the Minnie this year - had originally planned to, but then scheduled a week at WDW in early June and decided we couldn't afford the additional trip (unless we win one of the sweepstakes Dave keeps finding for us!). She has committed to do the half with me, though, so I'm just starting to get her thinking about training. I wanted to walk at a 13-14 min pace, but since it was her first time out we were closer to 18!

Christa - The Shirt Run looks like a lot of fun. I wish Raleigh was just a little bit closer (although there were a lot of Raleigh names on the member list!)

I'm really glad to get all the tips on the ice baths - last year after my 5Ks I managed cold showers, but hadn't worked up the courage to a real bath - didn't figure I really needed it with the mileage I was doing. I like the idea of a sweatshirt and hot beverage though!

Jackie

Hey all. Just wanted to pop in quick for my update. I didn't run yesterday because I had to go into work and that threw my whole day off. So this morning I wake up just feeling off. Went to church, still off, went out to eat, still off... come home and nap. I wake up feeling just crappy. So I decide to go to the Y and hit the track. I did 5 miles and feel WAY BETTER! DH thinks I have running depression, from my lack of running since the marathon. I would run more, but my work schedule is so bad. I leave for Houston on Tuesday!

OK, here are my splits because I am so proud. This was my fastest 5 miles EVER!

Mile 1: 11:23
Mile 2: 12:03
Mile 3: 12:00
Mile 4: 12:07
Mile 5: 11:58

I managed a R10/W2. The track was crowded, so I had to weave a lot. On a 1/12 mile track, this sucked!!!

Kristi and Bill - GET BETTER SOON!!!! With all my traveling this month, I am suprised I haven't gotten sick.

Mel - WISH I was with you at WDW. Glad you are having fun. I mentioned to DH that we need to move closer to the World so I can do all the races. Our local ones are not too fun.

Christa - Way to go on the run. Those shirts are way cool!! :thumbsup2

Oh and Ice Baths - Yes I do them for runs 8 miles or more. I would never have dreamed of doing one before the talk on this board, but they are awesome. I even did one after the 1/2 at WDW and it made my legs feel alive again. Our home water is cold enough, so no ice needed. But at WDW DH had to run and get some ice just to make the water cold.

Hey Again, WISHers!

I just got back from the gym and did my 45 min. on the TM. I didn't think I was doing very well, but in looking at the overview of my run, it wasn't too bad! I did 4.1 miles in 45 minutes, proof that I am getting faster. I also pigged out on Chinese food when I got home, so hopefully that doesn't slow me down too much.

What do you all eat after a workout that doesn't make you feel like a pig? I need to go to the store and buy more fruits and veggies I think.

I hope you are all set for another week! I am off to bed early tonight.

Take care, and keep it up!
Ashley

Wow, all this talk of an ice bath has me shivering!! i am only doing 5 miles for my LR now, but as I start officially training for my half, I may have to try this after my LRs. Anything to help keep my body from being sore the next day.

Jen-way to go on your 5 miles today!!

Sending pixiedust: to all those who are not feeling so well!!! I hope you all are feeling better soon!

Time to get some sleep!!!

I hope everyone has a great Monday!

Awesome job to everyone who got runs in! :thumbsup2
I went to the gym and did the TM again tonight -- 2 days in a row! :woohoo: I was actually craving it. How sick is that? I did 5 minute warmup at 4 mph (.33 miles) and then another 43 minutes (3.13 miles -- pace 13:44, I think). It felt really good. I won't get to the gym tomorrow and maybe not Tuesday, either, so I had to fit in this second session. I am not sure when the last time is that I did mileage on the TM or outside 2 days in a row.

Maria - WTG on getting all of your workouts in!

Jackie - 5.5 miles is awesome! Congrats on a new longest distance!

Kim10110 - :welcome:

Christa - Congrats on your shirt run! Loved seeing all the photos!

Jen - Great paces!

Sending some pixiedust: to everyone who's feeling crummy. Hope you all feel better soon!

Ok, so the ice bath really is what it sounds like. I'm freezing already just thinking about it! I do like the idea of wearing a sweatshirt and drinking some hot chocolate to help take the edge off.

DH and I made it to the gym tonight. I put in 2 miles in 33 minutes. Good enough for me! :)

Thanks so much for the welcomes everyone. Im so happy to be back over on this side of dis.

Jen those are some awesome times :)

ashley great job on your times too. i have been drinking light and fit yogurt smoothy after my runs. its not to bad and it holds me over till my next meal. its weird since i started running i crave baked patatos after runs and my runs start at 6 am :) weird but i always settle for the yogurt.

txang i hope you dont mind me asking but i have never worked out with my dh, we are both military and work different shifts and go to the gym at different times but we are both planning on running a half together in march i was wondering if you find it hard to workout with your dh. i know my dh is much faster than me and i dont want to hurt his pace but i know he will feel bad leaving me behind. any advice..........sorry so long

thanks guys and gals

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

No training for me to report. Yesterday was a rest day.

Mel- Great job on your run at POR. Congrats on getting DH to run the half with you next year. That is awesome! The Pirate and Princess party sounds cool. I would have liked to see the fireworks and the Capt. Jack character. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Mike and Cecilia- Thanks so much about your optimism for me qualifying for Boston. I have a long way to go, but like I said - it's a lifetime goal. Right now I'm 38, and just ran my 1st marathon. I figure I'll get a couple more under my belt, see if I can get near 4 hours, and if I can maybe I'll shoot for that Boston qualifying time for the 40 year old age category.

Cecilia- Awesome job on your sub 9 min 6 miler. You are flying!

Kim- That's great that your DH is going to join in the fun next year too. Whoo hooo!!

Vic- good for you for getting your steps in on the TM.

BlueRoses- Another 11 miler!!! You're doing fantastic...

Jim- Wow, a 20 miler! That's awesome. What are you training for right now? Do you have something coming up in March?

Laurie- Really nice 5 mile run at the sub 10 min pace. WTG!!!

Maria- You definitely can't feel bad about the rest days. Your body really needs in to recover. The rest days are when your body gets stronger. Don't feel bad at all. That's awesome that you were able to follow your plan this week, and got all 5 days of exercise in. Wow, lots of January birthdays on this team...

Jackie- Great time walking with your DD16. Nice to have some mom/daughter time. Yeah, you got 5.5 miles in - celebrate your longest walk yet. The time doesn't matter, it's the steps that count.

Steve- You done such a great job recovering from Goofy. I can't believe your already back up to 10 miles at sub 10 min pace. Sounds like a good plan for you to start building some speed. You're already in great shape for the Flying Pig half. I can see I'm going to have a tough time keeping up with you for that one.

nucpharm29- I don't put ice in my cold soak either - because our water is super cold too. Must be something about the pipes being in the frozen Rochester, NY ground.

Ashley- I know there are some here on the team that have done multiple marathons with a short turn around, so I'll defer to them. But from what I've been able to learn from the team is that it can be done if you don't try to run them both all out for time. You might treat the May 27th marathon as a 26.2 mile training run, and then run the marathon in July for time. Which races are you trying for? Nice job on your 45 min on the treadmill.

Bill- Hope you get over your cold quickly. :wizard: :wizard:

kim10110- Welcome to the team!!!

Christa- Great job on the shirt run, and what a shirt it is. Those are some nice press on letters. Actually, I really like that shirt you ran the race in. ;) Seriously, congratulations on the run, and for keeping up with the big dogs. Your pace was fantastic!

monte- Hope you're feeling better soon.

Jen- really nice job on your 5 miler!

Kristi- Oh no, you're sick too! Hope you get better soon.

Cam- Good for you for getting workouts 2 days in a row. I know that is such an accomplishment for you with your busy schedule. WTG! That's awesome! Great mileage and time too!

OK, have a good week everyone. I know I'll be checking in again.

I may be feeling better today but I will see what happens as the day progresses. I still hope to get out tonight while it is still cool around here for a run.

Jen - Great job on your run.

Kim10110 - DW and I alternate times to go out running. I am at a different pace than her so we decided early on not to do things together to keep each other from getting frustrated.

Cam - Good job on doing the TM for two days. That is two days more than I could stand running on one. ;)

Welcome to all the new members as well. Hope you can get answers and encouragement from us.

Bill

Morning, just stopping by quick to report the morning TM run. Will be back later to read all the posts.

Did 7 miles on the TM @ 10:31. It went by a lot faster this week then last. Every mile after 6 which a ran last week is a personal best for distance run.:thumbsup2

Be back soon ned to eat.

Scott--congrats on the PR--that's how I feel on my ever increasing LRs--the "this is more than I have ever run before" part is just icing on the cake!

cam--Good job getting to workout two days in a row! Your pace looks great!!!

kim10110--Welcome! DH and I are going to "try" to train together for the full at WDW. But with our small kids, we kinda have to train in shifts. So we'll see what happens. Good luck to the two of you!

bill--glad to hear that you are feeling better

Ashley--great workout! Normally, I eat whatever Ican get my hands on after a LR, but this week, nothing sounded good--so I raided DD's Gogurt and it was a really good post-run eat! Now, I'll have to go out and buy my own box.

Jen--Congrats on your fastest 5 ever! You're really moving now!

Well, I better go get dressed for the gym. Gonna try to get 4 in this am and some upper body-ab work in the weight room. Have a great Monday all!
