Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

Colleen - I want to do MCM (having bagged it last year) but I have a trade show in Orlando the week prior, so we're gonna do a cruise that weekend. However, I WILL be doing it in '08 for definite:cheer2: . It looks like Howard may be in for '08 also...

My next marathon will be Grandma's in Duluth, MN, as I am working that into a business trip also:thumbsup2 .

Ooh Sara and Howard, maybe I will postpone MCM until 2008 and organize a WISH group for that one! Krista, Steve, and everyone else, start thinking about 2008 MCM!:cool1:

Oh, and Grandma's on my list too! It is suppose to be awesome! Have to check the date on that one! Is that the one that you need to mail in your entry??

I'm interested in the Marine Corps Marathon too, and I was actually targeting 2008 for that one.

I agree with Mel, things will slow down soon.

Does anyone have any input into finding other races? I am leaning towards not doing the Minnie this year. :sad1: So, I was thinking of doing the Big Lake Half Marathon in May instead, to keep my behind in gear. Well, they close the course at 3 hours - which is hopefully my finishing time. I looked at results on coolrunning.com for alot of other New England races, and it's always less than 10 people that finish a half over 3 hours! :scared1: I guess I am used to walker-friendly races like WDW.

I guess I am just hesitant since I did a local 5k in November & felt really dumb being one of the last finishers. And that was my best 5k time ever!

The Hawaii Half has a 4 hour limit - but we are tentatively planning that for 2009. :woohoo:

There is the Great Bay 1/2 in Newmarket ig that's near you. I have signed up for it and I'm currently training for it. You can check it out here http://www.locorunning.com/greathalf.php

Sorry to jump right in, but I have been lurking for a while and it is hard to figure out who is who and all.

Sara,

FYI, just checked on Grandma's marathon and the entry forms are being mailed out today for those who requested them.

Online forms will be available on Monday.

9500 registrations taken only by mail!

Sunny and Krista - Thank you for noticing my talent for taking pictures of beautiful women. :thumbsup2

Colleen: I would really enjoy planning an event like this with you, Dave, Sara and anyone else from the WISH Team that would be interested in running the MCM in 2008. It may seem like postponing it for you, but for me it is looming on the horizon. Grad school will be over before I know it (May 2008). I am trying to get my friend (from Pennsylvania) to run it with me also.

Enjoy your day!

:grouphug:

Howard and Dave, that's great!!! I think we have another WISH marathon in the works!

Howard, I don't mind postponing it in the least. It would be awesome to do this with the team.

Thanks for the link! And I notice they have different starts for WALKERS! :thumbsup2 I am thinking Chad & I are going to do this race. THANK YOU!!!

And just jump right in - I still get confused sometimes with who is who. And I've been hanging around for about a year now. :rotfl:

Thanks Colleen:cool1: !! I have had an alarm set on my desktop for 1/22 so I can send in the form the same day. You should come run it with me:banana: . DH will do the half that is the same day. I was so psyched to see that it coincided with a scheduled business trip so airfare is taken care of:woohoo: .

Howard - That sounds like a wonderful plan for MCM. I was bummed when I had to transfer my bib for '06 knowing that I am unavailable for '07 due to business travel. I hope we can round up a bunch of WISH'ers to join in the fun:cheer2: . It is supposed to be a GREAT marathon for families.

Judy - Yeah for signing up for Minnie!!

I know that I am WAY behind on posts. I keep trying to catch up, what can I say?! Well, I have been working out every day. I have been doing a few of the Aerobics DVD's that I have and strength training. The only running I have been doing is with DH though. After the Full he has been all sorts of motivated to start running with me, so I started him on the Couch to 5k plan, and I have been running that with him. He runs so much faster than me that it is all I can do to keep up for that one minute. Thank goodness this is a plan that slowly builds up, otherwise I would be running it alone!! I think I am going to go out tomorrow morning and put in 6 miles or so, just to get in the distance. We'll see.

We are starting to plan our summer vacation for this year, and found a cruise at a REALLY good price. I was talking to DH about it this morning that the cruise in September will be right at the peak of our training for next years Full and we would have to run on the deck track. Which automatically made me think about the fact that "Garmins don't work on cruise ships". I don't even have a Garmin, but I couldn't help but remember that conversation.

Ok, gotta run to go get my little one from school now, but I promise to check back in again later today. That may be the only chance I have at keeping up!!

Dana

Oh no, Dana, they work fine. Don't you remember? I did 21 miles in 45 minutes! :thumbsup2

I was thinking about 2008 MCM, too, as that one is definitely tops to run on my list next to Disney. I haven't talked to Krista about it yet, but there's a chance she may be out for that one. She's informed me that if we aren't in the process of having children by that point, she may kill me. :)

But regardless, I can still run 2008. Count me in. :thumbsup2

Great Steve! :yay:

We will let Krista off the hook for this one!

Krista - I totally understand that one!! Coincidentally, I'm not getting any younger either. (the sad part is i'm not getting any braver, and Phil and I just can't make the decision to try to have another one!!! The first one (an the only) has been really hard work from day one!!!!))

We have one of those too, Melissa. The good new is that when the first one is really hard work, it makes the second look easy! As a matter of fact, who am I kidding? I've heard God never gives you more than you can handle. . . well, he had wayyyyy tooo much faith in me as far as my first was concerned. His views on my abililities were much more realistic by the time Andrew came along -- he has been a breeze since he was in the womb! ;) Oh, and I do firmly believe you can tell a child's personality by their personality in the womb. Both of my kids have exactly the personalities I would have expected based on how hyper or placid they were for those 9 LONNNNNNGGGG months. :rotfl2:

mogalskr - Jumping right in works!!!! hen yuo feel up to it, tell us more about yourself!

To all newer WISHers -Tell us about yourself and your training and jump in where you feel comfortable. DOn't worry about keeping up and keeping everyone straight too soon. It takes a while and even those oof us who camp her emroe often :rolleyes1 can't keep up sometimes. You'll get to a point where you "know" more people and in the meantime, hopefully, we can give you some help.

the sad part is i'm not getting any braver, and Phil and I just can't make the decision to try to have another one!!!

I am not getting any braver either! I had a delivery from you-know-where, or I would have already had a second one. Chad wants another one bad. I on the other hand am fine the way things are now. I have to be careful he doesn't talk me into something in a moment of weakness! :rotfl:

And Krista - old? OMG! I wanna be as old as you! :rotfl2: Also, parents do make great sitters. We went to WDW for the marathon in 2005 baby-less. :yay: And, my parents just bought a house in our neighborhood. I already decided that we can send Zack back & forth from house to house on the John Deere tractor thingie. It's only .1 miles. ;)

Today I did about 5 miles walking on the treadmill. I was so disgusted that at around 4 miles (I say about because I can't look at the display, it makes it harder for me, so I had it covered with a piece of paper that I had printed out the WISH shirt back logo on) the safety clip popped out because of me making a speed change, and I lost my data! I knew about how far I had went, but I wanted to see it all there at once! Maybe tomorrow I'll tape the safety clip on!

Oh, Stacey..bummer!! But at least you were doing something!! Great going!!

Stacey - that stinks! There are a lot of folks who have some really good treadmill techniques. I believe Sunny even experienced treadmill nirvana at one point. Maybe she can give you some tips! the longest i've tollerated on the TM is 8 miles. My parents bought us a small tv for christmas to put in front of the TM, but it hasn't made it there yet (it was taken over by a 4yo who wanted to play lego starwars!)

Kristi - maybe one day we'll be brave enough the thing is, by the time i get brave enough, i'll be a 40yo w/ a newborn:confused3

W/ all the offspring talk, i forgot to post my training today. Ran 10.5 miles w/ EC(her knee is finally better). It was windy and cold! Sarah's neighbor told me at preschool pick up that she saw me running in her neighborhood and that we were running so fast (the funny thing is that our overall pace was slow, she just happened to see us sprinting by at the end of our run b/c we were trying to get inside to get some hot chocolate!)
