Well wouldn’t you know it, one of us fractured a foot today and will be in a boot for WDW. I’m trying to figure out if a portable scooter is the way to go, or is a standard scooter better?

We were wanting to utilize the Minnie Vans and I believe the portable scooters just fold down and go in the trunk. Will that be the same for the buses or would we have to drive the scooter onto the bus?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are portable scooters that fold up, others come apart into like 5 pieces. Which model are you considering?

Minnie Vans -- how many in the party and will you need to use the child car seats? The child car seats take up most of the cargo space, but if those are in use there would definitely be room for a portable scooter (broken down or folded). Otherwise, accessible Minnie Van is an option and the scooter gets tied down.

Buses -- the scooter gets tied down; the driver may help drive it onto the bus and into place if needed. If the scooter actually folds, that is an option to carry it on.

I went ahead and ordered a portable scooter that breaks down. Hopefully that was the right choice. Are there charging stations in the parks?

Most of the rentals are the kind that break down rather than folding.

No charging stations. You can bring your charger in case it's needed. But practice good battery care -- make sure it fully charges in your room overnight, turn it off when not moving, don't overload with bags and stuff, if the user is near the weight limit consider renting a larger size scooter.

Thank you so much for the info. This is our first time renting. The weight limit is 300. My DH is about 75 pounds under that.

Do the hotels allow charging in the hallways generally? The scooter will take up precious space in the room.

You should not keep your scooter in the hallway, it is a fire hazard, yes, it takes up room but we fit two full size scooters in our room and have plenty of space.
