Wk of Feb 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Angie--I hope your knee is feeling better soon! Good Luck at your new job!!

Stephanie--The lipstick stops are a very cute idea, but there is not enough lipstick in the world to make me look better at the end of a run (regardless how short it is)!!

I just ran 2 miles on the treadmill and I ran the entire time (except for 2 quick breaks to do some mommy intervention) and did it in 23:05. I can not believe 2 short months ago running 2 mins was next to impossible for me. I am so excited to do this years Minnie!!!

I can not believe how fast this thread is still moving!!!! I am trying to keep up!!

Angie - Best of luck on your new job :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I'm back at home for my 2nd day of 3 off before I start my new job. I just dropped my DS off at school and I'm back in my PJs. I could get used to this ;) :rolleyes1

Hi everyone!

Just a quick note (and I promise to catch up on individual responses later)...

Just got back from a suprise trip to Toronto last night. We had a great time as always... but it was a lot of eating, a lot of shopping and a lot of Alexander Keiths. Sadly, there was very little working out. (Unless you count walking everywhere in some pretty chilly temps.... and that has to count for something, right???)

Anyhow, it looks like a break was just what I needed and I'm readdy to start big time training again. Since I really don't have any races scheduled until Goofy, I really don't know what that training is going to entail, though....

OK, back to catch up on the 544 emails that awaited me on my return.

Kevin :earsboy:

Good morning, TEAM!! Yesterday was a rest day, so nothing to report training wise. Of course we all know that doesn't mean I got any rest! Stephen's sister and her husband are coming in for the weekend and staying at our house, so we are forced to clean the house. I mean a real, deep cleaning, not just the surface cleaning. I'm tired just thinking about it!!!

Mike/Optimator--I love that picture of Chandler!! He is my favorite! My sister always says that Stephen is like Chandler because he has a job that no one understands either. Stephen is an engineer. He designs conveyor systems for distribution centers. How hard is that to understand? :confused3 I think my sister is :smokin: By the way, I can quote Friends like it's nobody business. :)

Angie--:wizard: for your knee!!!! Where does it hurt?? I've become somewhat of an expert on knee injuries. Here's some more :wizard: for your first day of work.

Kevin--Glad to see you back! It sounds like you had a nice time in Toronto.

Stephanie--Lipstick stop? That is cute!! puckerup: You're right, at mile 25, you don't really care what you look like!!! That running clinic sounds awesome!

Twotoohappy
--The Pig that Stephen is referring to is the Flying Pig marathon in Cincinnati. There are quite a few of us who are running the half, we all call it the Pig.

Okay, break time over! I'll be back!

Morning folks!

I got my 2 miler in last night in 24:21 for a 12:11 min/mi pace. I thought it would be a real stonker last night since it felt cold out, had been snowing during the day, and the wind was kick'n chick'n! (I love that expression, I have to use that) My ankle was feeling a bit sore last night so I think I'll put off my planned run from Wednesday until Thursday and do my long run on Saturday, just to give it a bit of a rest. I gave my ankle a good massage last night, no sign of swelling, and no pain this morning so we'll see what happens. I'm not sure if this is me mentally still trying to cope with my old injury or not. Fingers crossed it holds up cuz I got a lot of racing to do!

Here's a quote for you today, courtesy of my Running Room e-mail from this morning:

When people ask me why I run, I tell them, there’s not really a reason, it’s just the adrenaline when you start, and the feeling when you cross that finish line, and know that you are a winner no matter what place you got. – Courtney Parsons

Have a great day everyone!

Judy – Wow, what a story! I just don’t understand people who abuse animals. That’s so awesome that you were able to rescue Misty. She’s beautiful!

Jen – Hope you’re feeling better!

Dena – Glad to hear that everything’s ok with the baby!

Stephanie – Yay for pain-free running! LOL at the lipstick stop!

Lily – That sounds like an awesome show.

Angie – Oh, no! Take care of that knee! :wizard: Can’t wait to hear how your first day went!

Kevin – Glad you had a fun trip! 544 emails? :faint:

No training news for me. I haven't been feeling all that great the past few days, so I've been getting as much sleep as possible. Darn this job getting in the way of my resting time! Hoping to get back to it soon, though.

Yup, you all failed! :lmao:
I am going to do the 7 miles today though, if it kills me.
I was all set to go yesterday, then Chad came out in his running clothes & said he was going out. While he was gone, I lost all motivation and decided to catch up on Grey's Anatomy instead. :rolleyes1

Since I tend to try not to fail tests twice in a row:) , how did the 7 miles go yesterday. I didn't see them posted anywhere...:rolleyes1

Bill

Hi Team,

I am not sure when I posted last, but since my fall on the ice my elbow still hurts but mostly if it touches something otherwise its okay. I did feel sore all over the next day. Anyway, since then I did my 3 miler this weekend at about 15.3 min miles. Felt great. I also bought new shoes this weekend. NB 901 running shoes. They have a lower heel and are more flexible for walkers. I laughed out loud when the salesman took them out of the box. They are white with black and safety yellow. Now I will match my shirt.

Unfortunately, I missed my walk yesterday. I was going to go last night, but the little girl (10yrs) from next door came to my house crying and barefoot with no jacket because her parents were fighting and she was scared. Sigh. I spent sometime talking with her before her mom showed up for her. Anyway, it just makes me so sad. I know I need to contact children's services. I am so glad she felt comfortable to come to my house. I hope she doesn't see any trouble because of it. Sorry to be downer.

Hoping to get my walk in today, but after I hug my kids some more today.
Take care,
Maggie

Hi Everyone-

Well, training is taking a back seat this week. We bought a new house yesterday so I am now scrambling to get this house ready to sell. I used to think I got so wiped out cleaning house because I was out of shape but it still flattens me and I am in much better shape these days.

I say we bought a new house - actually all we did was put a contract on a piece of dirt and a bunch of pieces of paper pieced together. The architect hasn't even given us a final floor plan or a picture of the outside of the house. So things are a little on edge around here.

Anyway, I haven't doen any running since Saturday but I plan to get out and get a couple miles in this afternoon.

I will try to keep up with the thread but you guys fly!

Does any of my fellow southerners know of a Marathon after (but close to) June 20?

Got my handy dandy Marathon guide out for you. I couldn't think of one since most sane southerners don't want to run a marathon in the south in June. I mean, the WDW Mararthon isn't held in January just cause its a slow month (although thats the main reason.

Here are some to look for:
May:
Flying Pig in Cincinnati, Ohio
Potomac River Run in Alexandria, VA
Wickham Park in Melbourne, FL
June:
Hatfield- McCoy in Goody, Kentucky
July:
Grandfather Mountain in Boone NC
September:
Tupelo Marathon in Tupelo, MS
Heart of America in Columbia, Missouri

Since I tend to try not to fail tests twice in a row:) , how did the 7 miles go yesterday. I didn't see them posted anywhere...:rolleyes1

Moving on...I did 5 miles today on the track. Finished in 1:01:39 - not spectacular, but I'll take it. Esp. since I have not exercised since Thursday. :rolleyes1

Bill - you passed! ;)

Judy – I LOVE seeing pictures of Mist. What a beautiful girl. She is so lucky to have ended up in your care and God bless Charlie, literally, for helping you to prevent her from going back to that witch.

Kristi – I am still available if you need to make any after-concert calls regarding your stalking activities! And I am sure all your WISH friends will be glad to help with bail money, if necessary!

Dena – so glad everything is alright with the little peanut! Sorry you are uncomfortable, though. BTW, when I was watching The Class last night I was thinking of what it might be like to have Jason Ritter as your doctor.

Steve – Congrats on getting your 10 miler in last weekend! I WISH I were going to be with you guys for the pig but am thrilled you are all planning to hang out together. I really, really WISH I knew Howard’s exam schedule so that I could “force” him to fly out there for the weekend to hang out with you guys, but still no word on scheduling.

Krista – your Chandler imitation literally had me LOL!

So, Jackie, does that mean you can arrive late to work dressed in running gear and get an indulgent “way to go” from your boss? Don’t we all wish! :rotfl:

Andrew – thanks for asking about the squeak. Interestingly, the squeak was in the sole of the shoe right at the arch. The guy at Fleet Feet tried to say it was ambient air (what is that?!) And that that type of squeak could come or go at any stride in any shoe. Well, let me tell you – I am on my 5th pair of “running” shoes since February of 2005 and Howard is on his 4th and neither of us has ever had that issue. I just couldn’t figure out how to fix it and I definitely couldn’t tolerate it. A young girl at FF told me to put baby powder on it where it was squeaking. I was very :confused3 How could that possibly help? BTW, awesome time on the TM 5K!!!! :woohoo: :yay:

Stephanie – I am so glad you loved your running clinic. Maybe that particular coach would be interested in some stepped up laps with you after the clinic is over each week. Congratulations on the pain-free week! :cool1:

Heather – great training run! I hope you are feeling better! pixiedust:

Terri – you are in my prayers. I hope all goes well for you this week – quick and smooth! pixiedust:

Angie – how is the knee today? How was the first day on your new job?

Christy – awesome time on your 2 miles! I bet you are flying high with pride at this point. Consider this a virtual high-5 ---->>>>> 5
Leana – Thanks for sharing that quote. What a cool description of what it’s like! :thumbsup2

Maggie - how sad that that little girl was out under those conditions, but bless you for being the kind of person she felt comfortable seeking out. I hope all goes well there. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be knowing she was living in such a sad situation.

Cecilia – How exciting! Have fun planning the house and I hope you survive the sale of your current home with your sanity intact! ;)

No training to report yet. I did 20-25 minutes on the balance ball the last two nights. My body shape has changed so much since losing 65+ pounds and I really haven't focused enough on toning and strengthening. It was really cool to look down at my legs in shorts while I was at "spine neutral" and realize that there are muscles there and a heck of a lot less flab and that I can demand a lot more from my body than I have ever done in my life. Going to the gym tonight after a weight watchers meeting and hoping for a good "run." You guys are all inspiring me. And the next time I even consider whining, I am going to think of Mist! :cloud9:

Stephanie - Your group sounds great. Congrats on running with no pain!

Heather - Off to a great start!

Angie - Hope you can get some good advice here. I haven't had knee pain so I can't help, but good luck. Take it easy! And good luck with the new job!

Christy - Great job on the TM. I can't believe you have to stop for mommy intervention - I refuse to acknowledge anything else, but I'm lucky that DD is 16 now. My only real distraction is the dog!

Minnie - Good thing you only have 3 days off or you'd be really spoiled.

Leana - Great 2 miler!

Maggie - Glad you were there for your neighbor's kid. Sounds like a really tough situation to be in. Probably an okay excuse to miss the walk...

3.5 miles on the TM this morning. 5R/1W intervals with a 12 MINUTE RUN in the middle! Once again, at about 25 minutes thought it was over, then remembered someone (Lisa, I think?) with a hilarious quote about running for those who can't run because they're pregnant. That's when I did the 12 minute run!

For all you medical/pharmacy specialists out there - last week I went to donate blood and was turned down for the first time because my iron was low. Can there be any correlation between an increase in running and my iron levels? My diet hasn't changed all that much, so the only change in my lifestyle is the increase in mileage. Just wondering...

Jackie

Dena: I'm so happy that everything is OK. Please take it easy and make sure you let everyone else do the chores and un-fun things!

Judy: I get teary-eyed every time I hear/read that story. I cannot believe the "judge" would allow this but at least you did save Mist. I love the pictures of her! Give her a big hug from me.

Cruella de mom: congrats on the new "house!" Are you razing what is currently there and building new? Do keep us posted and I hope you get back to the work outs soon!

cdn_gal_eeyore, and all those with these quotes: I LOVE them! No one I work with understands why I run. It's great to know there are others like me out there. Keep 'em coming.

Yesterday was a rest day for me and today was a light cardio and weight workout. Tomorrow will be my LR after work. IF, and this is a big if, it's sunny and 43 degrees as they are predicting, I am going to TRY to get outside for the run. 55 minutes. Otherwise, it's the TM for me. Keep your fingers crossed!

Then it's off to New Orleans for a weekend of fun. Well, the DH will be closeted in a conference, but moi will have the run of the town. Sooo, I've booked myself on a culinary history walking tour of the French Quarter. I am really looking forward to it. Anyone who have been on it, I'd love to hear your impressions (only good ones please; I'm psyched and don't want to hear negative stuff about it :teeth: ).

I'll post tomorrow night after my run. Have a good workout everyone!!

Martha--don't know anything about the walking tour--but my when my dad was in the "Big Easy" for a conference, both he and my mom took a class at the New Orleans school of Cooking--and loved it! Pretty much they got to eat and drink while someone else cooked!

Jackie--I've tried to give blood in the past and been denied b/c of low iron--turns out to be quite common in women (has to do with that "time of the month")--and most of the time it's transient. I did end up going to my PCP for some additional bloodwork--and nothing ever showed up.:confused3

Angie--forgot to wish you luck with your new job. No advice on Knee pain, but maybe it's your body's way of telling you to slow it down and rest a bit. That's what was up with my foot--hurt so bad I thought I might have a stress fracture--but then after resting and icing for 2-3 days, I"m pain free!

Well, better go finish up dinner and feed the natives--getting restless around here.

Sorry gang wasn't online since this morning....seminars at work....yuck!!!

Anyways good new got to go outside to walk today...YAAAA We only did 2 miles but did it in 27:50 so pretty happy with that, considering we are still bundled up with hats, gloves coats, it was nice to get outside again.

Kim

I was sufferign through a seminar today myseslf. Too bad Kim adn I weren't together.

Kim - Ther eis abosolutely no rule that you can only post here if you run teh Disney marathon. Ypu had ebtter not go away!

MArtha - BTW, I love your sig!!!

Steve - Yup, I coudl do w/o this weather. I'd eb ok, if the paths were clear. Well, I'd be better.

Dena - SO glad you adn baby or fine!!!

maggie - :grouphug: Speaks volumes that the little girl is so ocmfortable with you. :wizard: That you will know what to do to help her.

Angie - Hope your first day was a good one!

Kevin - That is awesome!! I amso glad that you got a break adn got out of here for a bit!

Apologies to all that I'vemissed. RUnning very low on brain power tonight. :guilty:

Had a decent run on the TM yesterday. The skirt gave me teh extra confidence, I needed. ;) However, my mo3 qwon't hook to the waist band (or stay on) and I have retractable head phones that don't have a long enough cord for the special pocket teh skirt has. However, I was able to watch a little tv and even switch to radio. I have not been able to do that since before the incident. I also did the first 11 adn the last 10 minutes on 1% incline. Nver sone the incline before, but I could tell my hill ability was lacking this weeeknd. Then,. I get off teh TM adn dh tells me that he hard a hard time with 3%. :scared1: Yeah, 1 and 2% felt like nothing to him. I'm interviewing for new running partners. Slackers preferred. ;)

:goodvibes GOOD NEWS:goodvibes

:cool1: My knee is so much better today!!!:cool1: I will rest it for the rest of the week and luckily the girl I am doing the 5K with at EPCOT Saturday morning does not run very fast and we are doing it for fun because she's never done a Disney Race. She desperately wants to do it, and not by herself, so she said we will just walk it if we have to.

You guys are all so wonderful, thank you so much for asking about my job. Most of you know that the degree I am finishing up is Engineering, I have chosen to go to work in the Marine Construction Field, instead of working for an Engineering firm. You would have to know me to understand that I am about as "prissy" as you can get so the fact almost everything I own is pink, even my laptop bag. The joke is that I will get a pink hard hat for a graduation present. So, the fact that I spent my first day going through Saftey Training  and getting my Safety Gear - which consisted of work gloves, saftey glasses and the best part - a hard hat and a life vest was very interesting. Now I will be working mostly in the office and will not find much use for this stuff, but it was still so funny to find myself there. But the best part is I loved every second of it. :lmao:

I will come back later and catch up with everyone, again thank you guys so much for thinking of me.

angie

Angie - Hate to tell you this, but engineers typically stick to boring white hard hats. Hope you can break teh mold for us!!!! So glad your knee is doing better! OMG! Just noticed you are in Bradenton. That's where my parents are! (At least until the snow birds migrate north again.)

Martha Be sure to brings some tums along on your tour....yall northerners tend to start wiggling after some of our scrumptous food! Seriously tho- have fun and eat some for me...you have to go to Cafe du Monde and get beignets, and go to Copelands (the regular is wow and the Cheesecake Bistro is amazing) and Deanies (near the lake huge seafood platter, great prices, a great tradition), and come back during snowball season and go get snowballs (snowcones) on Plum Street. mmmmmm now im hungry....

...i want a detailed race report on the tour...pictures would be a nice bonus!
