Wk of Feb 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy great training partner, mine sometimes complains it is too cold out...:lmao:

Dena so glad to hear your pain was nothing serious. hope you are feeling better soon.

Kim

And for you ladies: my doc looks just like Chandler from Friends. So imagine Chandler talking to you about intimate issues. It was so funny I almost lost it a couple of times! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Could this baby BE any bigger???? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm glad that all is well and you and the baby are doing fine!

Hey guys! I know I promised that I would try to stay on top of the thread this week, and already I'm breaking my promise. Work's been crazy, which is good, but it's bad for keeping up with my WISH buddies.

Ok, this may be abbreviated, but here's my best attempt to catch up:

Mel--sorry about the running skirt fiasco. Cool paragraph for your "motto." I love that book (non-runners marathon...). I never did come up with a paragraph, but if I do sometime, I'm stealing yours. :)

Angie--a 5K in Epcot? I didn't even know about this one. Needless to say, I'm jealous!

Dave--nice job on the LR! We're going to have to talk about our "race strategy" for the Pig sometime soon. That is, if I can keep up with you. You're getting pretty speedy!

Martha--Hi! I just realized I hadn't gotten a chance to say Welcome, even though you've been with us for a little while now. Good luck keeping that crazy Craig in line!

Jim--WTG on the races! Are you still rubbing it in to your son?

Cam--don't worry, we "get it." It's the rest of the world that's got the priorities messed up, right? :thumbsup2

Vic, Leana, Angie --good job on the runs

Jen--hope you feel better soon and stay away from that snow--the stuff is evil!

Craig--glad you're feeling better and had some good workouts. At some point, I need to get your advice about increasing race pace and pushing thorugh speed work without overdoing it.

Christa--that's looking "rough" after 8 miles? Could have fooled me! Your sister DOES look just like you, BTW.

Bill--nice job on the 5k! Take care of that calf!

MelR and Colleen--just had to say HI! :wave2: Haven't talked in awhile.

Terri--we'll be praying your surgery goes well.

Heather--wow, bronchitis. That's not good. Take it easy and take care of yourself, k?

Carrie--WTG on the 6 miler! Can you please tell this cold, snowy weather to go away?? (I know, I know. I'm paying for all my comments about enjoying running in cold weather. )

Judy--2 runs AND shoveling snow?! You are superwoman! Cool that you found all of that out about Mist. She's very lucky to have you.

Susie--good to hear from you again.

Liz--WELCOME! NIce job on the runs. I'm sure you'll get all kinds of opinions, but I would do what you said--increase the distance first and then work on increasing the pace. Many training programs even for 5 and 10Ks have LRs much further than those distances, and most coaches agree that the long, slow runs are the foundation of good training programs. Good luck with your training.

Ok, so even though I haven't been posting, I have been keeping up with training. I did 10 miles this weekend and then biked and lifted tonight. I'm trying to make sure I get two solid cross training sessions and 2 lifting sessions per week in addition to the running. If I can make one of those cross training workouts a swim, I think I'll be getting back into good enough shape to do a sprint tri sometime this spring. Of course, when the weather gets warmer, I'm sure I'll want to bike at least twice a week, so I may have to either fit in another workout or juggle things around. Ok, now I'm just thinking out loud and rambling.

Have I mentioned how excited I am to run the PIG with some of you guys?? The race doesn't seem like it can get here soon enough. I vaguely remember that Krista and I are supposed to be doing research on restaurants, etc, for the weekend. Oops. Uh, yeah, we've got it all figured out. Sure. Ok, really, we'll have to work on that some more.

Well, I hope everyone's week is going well. Good luck training, all, and I'll talk to you all soon.

Steve

6 pages and it's Monday night? I feel like I've been gone for a week...

Cam - My coworkers think I'm nuts. Fortunately my boss is on a fitness kick right now and is running every morning, but other than him, I'm all alone. And I definitely get grumpy if I can't get the run in. I find that I'm obsessing about when I can run the next time!

Matt - CONGRATULATIONS!!

Mystic and I did a brisk 2 mile walk after work today. She's not the best training partner, since she's more concerned with squirrels than pace, but at least she was out there with me. Back to the TM tomorrow morning.

I registered for a 5K on March 17th, so I finally have something to officially train for. January seems so far away. I guess maybe I'll try to run the Minnie distance with you guys on that weekend since I can't get down there!

Jackie

Matt- :thumbsup2 on the PR...what a smokin' time!
Terri- Good luck and pixiedust: for a speedy recovery. I read up a little on the Topaz procedure and found it rather interesting.
Bill- Good job on the impropmtu 5K and good luck next week at the Sarasota 1/2.
Cam- Where the insoles you ordered from roadrunner sports the ortho runners with the carbon fiber looking arch and heel support? I bought those last fall and had the same thing happen to me....squeek...squeek....squeek in BOTH shoes:mad: . I took them out and cut out an insole shaped piece of the non slip shelf liner and put them in under the insoles. Took care of the squeek and did not take away from the comfort or overall feel of the shoe/insole combination.

Today I got on the TM for a 5K, ran 2 of the 3.1 miles for a total time of 46:15. Tomorrow's plan is XT, back to the light circuit set with 20 min of stationary cycle thrown in for good measure.

Happy Training!

Well, I went to my first "Women Can Run" running clinic tonight.:thumbsup2 It was really fun--except for the fact that I was the only "advanced" runner that registered. They put me in the intermediate group--which ranged from those who could jog a 1/2mile-mile w/o stopping. So I started out with one of our groups instructors and we sort of broke off from the group. Started talking marathoning--she's doing the 1/2 on Sunday. Come to find out I'm running w/a 3 time Boston qualifier!:scared1:Christa, I think I'm running with some of your friends!;) So we did the first lap pretty easy, then she left me to go back and be with the other gals. We were only supposed to do 2 laps today--as I was finishing the 2nd lap she says "wanna go again?" We were flying! I really need someone to push me in those shorter distances--I think we ave. a 8:12 mile. So we'll see what happens, the clinic runs 11 weeks. I have to give kudos to the ladies putting this on around the state--It's amazing how many women walk/jog in my community and until tonight I never knew!

Oh and the best news:NO PAIN!!!!!! This was my first pain-free run in a week!:dance3: :dance3: Gotta love it! Well, chat tomorrow my WISH buddies!

Hi WISH Team!

I absolutely cannot catch you all.

Dave, sounds like you had FAST fun sledding that had me smiling.

Terri, sending PD to you and docs that all goes great for you.

Sorry to hear of the sickies...still/again.

Judy, I love to hear/see your Mist story. She is a beauty.

Vic, sorry about the siggie police, I got bit by them too.

Dena, glad you and baby are fine. Oh and Toc Chandler...:lmao: too much!

Susie, it's good you are back at it. Sorry for your problems with getting your mind back into it. I so understand and I must say it really hurt me last year. Don't go there. You need to get in and get moving now.

That's the best I am able to do for now. I've got to go and read some more.

I'm managing to get myself moving and had a "consult" with a personal trainer tonight. I really would love to get that going, only ooooh $$$. I'm guessing the investment may be a better payout than having to limp the events. I don't ever want to do an event that way again.

I've had an inspiring weekend. No Friday Night Date Night, but we traded up as it happened. We went out Saturday to a local bar that serves good burgers. I had half a burger and a beer. Mmmmm. Sunday We went to see Chita Rivera starring in The Dancer's Life. We have tickets for the Broadway Series here and that allows DH and I to have some date time once in a while. I've got to say it was something. She has some amazing background and that she is still kicking it up at 74 years truly inspires me. (FYI this is a little about her background: In story and song, she relives fascinating moments from the years she spent working with such greats as Bernstein, Fosse and Sondheim. And she performs knockout numbers from some of her biggest hits, including West Side Story, Chicago, Bye Bye Birdie and Kiss of the Spider Woman. AND she is still doing it after having had a broken leg and lots of pins to hold things together. So for my old bones, I've found another inspiration. I keep adding my inspirations and there are tons and they keep on coming for me.

I'm going to try to read the beginning of this week now...

OH I almost forgot. Please check that calendar. It is updated and if your info is not on leave word on the thread and we'll update things.

I got my steps in tonight. My Minnie training has officially begun. I did 2.14 miles in 30 minutes (14.01 min./mile). Tomorrow is cross-training. :yay:

...Krista, Good job on your 5 miler. As far as the IT band there is one stretch that I have found works best for me. You start out standing, place one foot directly behind the other then lean away from the front foot with your arm over your head (like a ballerina). Make sure you are close to a wall or a rail for balance and enjoy the stretch.

Mike "goofyguy" B
Oh maybe you can help me with this one. I am trying to learn this stretch. No one I've been able to ask here seems to have an answer for me. Do you stand more on the back foot or the front when you do this? I don't know what the stretch should "feel" like and am not sure I am executing this properly.

As many here have already said, I can't talk any exercise with my friends. Not any get "it."

Thanks everyone for all the well-wishes and prayers :) I am ready to get it over with. Have I ever said how much I HATE blisters? The brace they have me wearing gave me a little blister today. Ugh! It's a tight brace and I was getting a rash from out. Today a tiny blister formed. And me, all out of body glide! I'll be getting some tomorrow!

Susie
- Yep, it was me. I'm hoping to do the Nike 1/2 marathon in SF in Oct. If all goes well with the surgery, I should be able to start training again in July. I'll probably walk most of the way, but I hope it'll give me an indication of how far along I am in preparation for Goofy 08.

Judy - Glad to hear Mist is doing great!:)

You guys are doing great! Keep it up!

Terri

Stephanie - I'll keep my eye out for you. What's your anticpated pace? I'm going to be staying Sat. and Sun. nites at the Peabody. I'm also going to be at the spaghetti dinner Sat. night. Are you going to that? Or did you mention that you were going to skip it? Not sure yet when I'll be at the expo.....probably sometime Sat. around noonish. Parking? Hmmm. I wonder if you can park at the Peabody and just use their shuttle back and forth? As for the "Women Can Run" clinic, I'm so disappointed that there isn't going to be one around here this year. We've had one for the last several years but not this one. Bummer! I really need this clinic. I could drive to Conway but Monday nights are not good for me. Darn! Good for you to be in the advanced group - as lonely as it is. Just think....now you can get specialized attention. :thumbsup2 Also, yea on the "NO PAIN". :cool1:

Lily - I know I need to get my rumpus in gear NOW! I think I'm on the right track. I've started back on my strength training two weeks ago and have done some XT - just not as much walking/running as I should be doing but I'm getting back into it this week....I promise. :tilt: By the way, my dad was crazy about Chita Rivera. I think he had seen her in a couple of shows. She is amazing!

RunningLilo - what a scare! Glad the little one is ok. :goodvibes

:sad2: BAD NEWS!! :sad2:

I am sitting on the couch with ice on my knee!! My knees have never bothered me when I run. But my left one hurt a little after Gasparilla, but no big deal. Hurt a little when I ran twice last week, again no big deal :confused3 or so I thought.

Well it started hurting last night after that awesome run and has gotten worse througout the day today. I almost could not come down the stairs after class tonight. It hurts really bad.:scared: I don't know what's wrong and I don't remember acutally "hurting it". I'm so MAD!!! This is just the way it goes, all my hard work was starting to pay off and I was really seeing such progress in our training. Maybe if I give it a rest for a little while it will get better.

On a happy note:
Well I start my new job tomorrow morning! :woohoo:

Happy Training Everyone!
Angie

Yikes! I forgot how fast this forum flies!
Kevin a belated happy birthday!
Melissa I would like to do a century at the end of the summer. (im working my way towards a triathlon, but i want to do a century and a duathlon first). I've been renting a bike, i think its a mountain bike, to do my rides. I have no idea of what i need for being serious about biking any advice would be great!
Dena :wizard: for feeling better
I'm a socks with crocs sort--my feet are too hot otherwise.
Jen :wizard: for your ear
Matt congrats on the Mardi Gras Half! mmm you make me want to go get some "just donuts".
Does any of my fellow southerners know of a Marathon after (but close to) June 20?
Judy  She's beautiful and her story is so inspirational, what a great training buddy!
I don't have any exercising friends either. I have a couple of friends who occasionally will walk/jog with me (or i with them rather), but its rather unreliable.

I've been getting in my jogs, xt, and weight/strength training yay! I've got my first race (5K race for the cure) on March 10 which isnt too far off.

Good morning team.

Angie - Good luck with your first day on the job today. :wizard: for the knee. Could it be an IT band issue? Outside of knee, esp. going down stairs? Krista and Lily can talk to you more about that. Rest is always best. You've been zooming and running a lot lately. Take it easy for several days.

Mel - Jeeze! Sewing too? Better watch out. Word gets out around here that you a custom making running clothes... As for renewing the vows. I was lucky enough to trick DW into it once but I'm not so sure if I could get her drunk enough to agree to it again.

Re: Marine Corp Marathon. I'm planning on running it this year. Registration last year or the year before was filled after 2 days :scared1: and always fills very quickly. Their website states that on-line registration begins at noon on May 9. I picked up a mail in registration form at the WDW expo that allows you to send it in April 30. Not sure if you picked one up, but you may want to check at the Sarasota expo to see if they are there.

Terri - Good luck with your surgery this week. We'll all hope for a speedy recovery.

Matt - Very impressive that you can PR with all the events you've run lately. I had to laugh to myself when you said you were going to take the next two easy. I'm not sure I believe you!!

Christa - I hope you feel better soon. BTW, have you ever had a picture taken when you didn't have that huge smile on?

Sorry to everyone else I missed.

I've been keeping on track pretty well. Ran 3 quick miles on the home TM Sunday and 7 on the Gym TM yesterday at a high-8 mpm pace with negative splits. Scheduled for 4 today.

Take care everyone.

Angie

Tough break. Body might be telling you to slow down, don't add to much speed or miles per week. Hopefully a little rest and ice will take care of it.

I hope you don't have any stairs at your new job. :confused3

Good morning team!!!!

Well we might be bailing on the Marathon weekend and going in Oct for the RFTT instead in October. We figure for all the money we will spend getting to Florida we know we will have warm weather in October...January not so sure, Oct we can go to MNSSHP and Food and Wine....January.....not much going on. Also being we fly out of Buffalo January weather can be very iffy and we might not even get out. We will decide for sure a bit later on but pretty sure.

If it is OK with you all I will still be posting here as we are doing the 2 disney runs as well as doing a 1/2 marathon in Toronto in September..

Got a seminar at work today:scared: I don't like those things they are still boring but to retain my licence we have to do so many a year so I won't be online to chat:sad2:

Hope you have a great day.

Kim

OMG:lmao:

Even though I'm just starting to learn about everyone, I'll try to keep up. You all seem like a very supportive and caring group:goodvibes

angietuck2 - :wizard: speedy recovery on your knee and good luck on your new job!

Tiger Lily 03 - loved my personal trainer Steph! She kicked my butt into shape!

skfulkers - nice run Steve! I someday want to do the tri at WDW. What's "PIG"?

Hey if there are any PA runners, I might be coming there for a day or so either in the Spring or Summer if you want to hook up for an early morning run or a drink - pm me and I'll get back to you when the dates are set. Probably the Pitt area to visit my friends Lisa and Lolo : )

Kristi1357-sounds like you had fun at your crop! I spent the weekend scrappin' at home and got a few pages done. I really need to find a crop in my area! Where does the KristiRed come from? I am confused!:confused3
Laurie - there is another Kristi here now, spelled the same way. So, I came up with the idea of me being KristiRed since I am a red head. That's what I went by in college since my best friend is a Kristi also.

Angie
- :wizard: for your knee. And good luck with starting the new job!

Kim--Please don't quit posting b/c you might not be there marathon weekend. These wonderful teammates have heard all about my training, etc for the past 3 months or so, and I haven't competed at Disney yet. Oh, and my plug for WDW in January--we took the family 2 years ago and loved it in Jan. No crowds, beautiful weather (especially coming from the upper Mid-west), we loved it!

Susie--If all goes to plan, I'm shooting for around a 9:10mile--so I should be at the relay exchange around an hour or so. I wish we were staying at the Peabody, but couldn't talk DH into spending the $$$ since we live in Maumelle! And, no we're not doing the pasta party--my running partner's wife is throwing a pre-marathon party at their house Sat. night. And I'll be going to the Expo on Friday, that way I won't have much time to linger and spend more $$$ I'll definitely be on the lookout for lime green!

Oh, you ladies might get a kick out of this. I got my race info brochure yesterday--one that gives all the nitty gritty info about the race--anyway, in it they have info on the "Lipstick Stop". At mile 25 for the full and mile 12 for the half, they have a Lipstick stop at the aid station, so us ladies can look our best for the finish line photos! If only lipstick improves my looks after 25 miles of running, I must be having a great marathon experience!

Well, off to Gliding Harmony for some stretching and pilates!
