Wk of Feb 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning WISHers!

8 miles scheduled, 8 miles completed at a 14:00 min. pace. It was raining this morning, so I ran on the TM. By the time I got done the sun was out, and it's currently 75 degrees. Guess I should've waited an hour or so.

Dave, TiffJ, Christy, Jim, and Cam - Great job on your runs.

Dena - Hope everything is ok.

Happy new week, team mates!!

I completed my 8 miler last Friday to get it done before going to NO on Saturday. 5 days without walking or cross training..unless you count throwing beads for 2 hours! We had a great time with family, though. Did nothing when we got home training wise, then got up Saturday and did 5 miles. It is absolutely amazing to me that I could do that. Thought about Matt and his half. He should have had great weather.
Angietuck2/Angie, What 5K at EPCOT? Two half's in six weeks (even at your speedy time) has earned you a break! ;)
scuba diver/Jim, Enjoy your wins!! I thought it was fantastic that the race director emailed you back so quickly! How awesome was that, though..a documented tie?? :thumbsup2
Tiffj/Tiffany, I must agree with Jim..
A 4 day cruise followed by RFTR. What a perfect setup, but I don't know if I could run after eating DCL for 4 days.
I know..it's ONLY six miles..:lmao: AND, if they do it like they did last year, there will be food at the end! Congrats on your 5K at Mobile!! You didn't tell us how DS reacted to finishing. WOW, Tiff...a 13:17 pace!!!:cheer2:
Space Ranger/John, Your exercise plan looks very sensible!! Great way to get those steps in when you can! Looking forward to cheering for the new slender John in 08!!
wtpclc/Carrie, YIKES!!! Thanks for the Ice Festival 5K pictures. So glad it was only a 5K, though!!:cold: Did you get more snow with this latest storm?
monte/Monica, Good job on snowshoeing! Sounds like so much fun, as well as a GREAT workout! I'm thinking of you with all of this snow, too!pixiedust:
Kristi , Congrats on finishing Chad's scrapbook, for now. My stuff is still piled up, waiting...siiigghh. I'm hoping to get our event stuff done by Friday, but I know that is unrealistic. I need to think, just one event at a time...:rotfl:
Cam, Lily, Glad you were able to get outside!:sunny:
Matt, Did you see the weather forecast for Albany? Three days of thunderstorms/rain!! Hopefully, it will move to AFTER Saturday!

Gosh, there are so many others I want to say something to..but must leave to get ready to celebrate DH's birthday... Dinner and a movie while everyone else is glued to the Oscars!

Good training, everyone and BE SAFE! :goodvibes Anne

Hi everyone!!! I just finished my lr for the week--5 miles. I love beginning of training schedules when all of the long runs have such low mileage. I did the run as 3/3 with a 11:40ish pace and finished just over 59:00. I'm going to start r4/w2 on Tuesday and see how my IT band likes that, if all is good I'm going to start uping the pace in a couple of weeks. I would love to run the Pig doing 10:30 miles, but we'll see.

Crocs with socks? You guys are cute. :goodvibes

Dena--Owww!!! Definitely stay off your feet until you get the okay from your doctor. Even so, still stay off your feet!!! :wizard:

Jim--Congrats on your victory!! Wow, you and your son are fast!!!

Cam--I'm sorry you are still having shoe trauma. I'm thinking of switching brands, but hearing all that you have been through scares me away from messing with a good thing!!

Dave--You were flying!!!! I guess I'll meet you, Stephen, and hopefully Colleen at the finish line.

Kristi--I had a dream about you Friday night. I dreamt Stephen and I were at WDW and the GGD's were there performing. I kept saying "we have to get a picture for Kristi" but we didn't have to camera with us. I was so upset that I didn't get a picture for you!!

Martha--You are making incredible progress!! I can't wait to hear how the Minnie goes for you!

Tiff--Awesome 4 miler!! I'm jealous that you got the run outside. It's starting to warm up here, but we're supposed to get another round of snow tomorrow. Ugh!!

Where is Bree?????

I'd love to sit and chat, but I'm supposed to be reorganizing my closet. I bought a new shoe rack that can sit on the shelf above my clothes (of course I have to have a step ladder to reach it  ) and I bought some more wire cubes to fit all my folded clothes. Shoes and clothes are my fetish, especially shoes!!!! Just ask Stephen! :thumbsup2

Hey all, just a quick update from me. I am still lovin' my speedy 3 miles from yesterday. This morning we woke up to PILES of snow. The storm hit us and is still snowing.

So, remember how I have been sick for the last month, well I went to the Walk In this morning because I knew what was wrong. I was hoping it would just go away, but it didn't. I have an ear infection. Bahhh Humbug. It never made me dizzy when I ran tho, so that is a good thing. DD6 went with me because we thought maybe she had strep, but it was just tonsillitis. So we are both on meds. When I tried to leave this morning (around 10 am), I saw the snow plow coming so I waited to pull out. Well, he was going so fast and there was so much snow, he pelted my van with it. Then I got stuck. So I shimmied forward back to the garage and took the truck with 4 wheel drive. DH saw the whole thing and laughed.

Congrats to all the LR's this weekend. I hope to be on the mend soon and finally back to 100%. I will be gone Thursday-Sunday with my mom to our annual quilting retreat. So my LR will be on a hotel TM... I hope it is decent quality. OH and I get to brag to everyone that I finished the 1/2. LAst year when I told people I was running it, they all laughed! Well HA on them!

Nothin' like a Sunday to get all the chores and errands run. Laundry, grocery shopping, car wash, etc. etc.

Oh yeah, and speed work on the TM this morning. I never thought I'd say this but I rather like the TM for speed work. I know exactly how fast I'm going and can vary it by time. Ran 2 min at 11:00 mile pace then 1 min at 10 min mile pace. Did that for 2 miles. I have to say, it felt really good!! I was happy to call it at 2 miles. Lots of stretching and my hip is feeling fine.

Jim: awesome job on the race!! Now, do you think you might take a break?

Cam: sorry to hear about the shoes. I was really hoping they'd work for you. Hopefully it's just that pair and the new ones will work out.

aladdinsgirl: great job on the LR. :thumbsup2 I do love it when the LRs are "short." Some PD to ya to help with the IT band. pixiedust:

Carrie: it appears that you and I have inspired my DH! Wow is all I can say. I was on the treadmill next to him this morning as he was doing a LR and I was doing speed work. I had it to 10 min miles for the speed. He said that since we are both training to improve our times and hope to run together at the Minnie with a goal of 10:30 miles, he's decided he needs to work on his time too! I never inspire anyone so, well, it's kinda nice, dontcha think?

Big Vic: nice job on the 8 miles.

TiffJ: could ya send some nice weather our way? They're calling for snow over the next 2 days.

I love these boards and get great inspiration from everyone. I hope everyone can get some good workouts in this week!

Following Martha . . .

On Friday I wasn't feeling any better and vowed that on Saturday I'd go to the Doc if I wasn't improved. Saturday I woke up feeling much better and did a great weight workout then 35 hard minutes on the bike. Today I was on the treadmill and felt totally excellent, turning in a very comfortable 10K at 10 minutes per mile, varying the pace and the incline (0.5 or 1.0). So many of you are turning in good times for nice distances, it makes me train harder to keep up.

You think you know it all about your own body and these races after years of running, but I absolutely messed up my training last fall. The distances were plenty long, but I never really went out and pushed the pace and my heartrate for extended distances and periods of time. I was so worried about pulling a muscle that I didn't do the tempo work in training required to carry it in the race. Right now the calfs feel great and I'm running nice pace comfortably, so this year will be different. Yes on long runs in the fall building to January, yes on weight work and bike work to build strength and endurance without pounding the legs. This year the addition will be races and race-like training runs so my body can comfortably carry desired pace.

Jim

I am envious of you running with your son. This past January I offered, begged and bribed my daughter to get her to run me in the last 8 miles of the marathon. Nothing could convince her. In the past she has done training runs with me, but never a race. To have had her out there with me this past January 7, particularly in the heat when I died at the end, would have been nice. Perhaps he could hire himself out.

Best to all

Craig

Jim - Great Job on the races!! And if you are anything like me, you still won't take a break!! :yay:
Dena - Take it easy, I hope that everything is ok.pixiedust:
Dave - Sounds like a good run. :cool1:
TiffJ - I will be able to recognize you at RFTT, you will be the one who looks most rested with that " I have been on vacation" glow. :dance3: Sounds like a great plan to me.
Christy - Good job on the 3K - OUTBACK food, :woohoo: that defiantely makes it worth it.
Anne - The 5k at EPCOT is the National Kidney Foundation 5k
Krista - I'm glad your run went well. I love shoes too - in fact I just got back from buying 2 pairs. I had a good excuse, I am starting a new job Tuesday and I have to wear closed - toed shoes, and being a Florida girl all I own is flip flops and , OH YEAH - they were on sale, so why buy 1 pair.:rolleyes1
Jen - Hope that you will be 100% soon!!:cloud9:
Martha - Glad your hip is holding up so well!!

That should be it for now. Off to do HW and then the 9 miler

Angie

Hi folks, it sounds like some of you got some great runs in this weekend. Congratulations!

Yesterday I ran a great route along the river in downtown Calgary. All of the snow was cleared off the pathway and it was a beautiful, sunny day out. I opted for a longer route, so I thought I would slow my pace down a bit. I'm not entirely sure about my exact mileage - it could be anywhere between 5 and 5.3 miles, and I ran it in 1:04:09. That would equate to a 12:54 to a 12:06 min/mi pace. So much for my plans to take it easy - if it really was a 12:06 pace I'm still speeding up! Can't wait till I get my Garmin to know my distances for sure...

My Minnie training program officially starts tomorrow, and I'm signed up for a 10K in three weeks.

Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Yesterday I ran a great route along the river in downtown Calgary. All of the snow was cleared off the pathway and it was a beautiful, sunny day out!

Hey Leana,

Oh running in downtown Calgary is the best! I have two sisters and a brother who live in Calgary. One sister lives in Erlton near Stampede grounds/Saddledome and she and I run the paths anytime I am up for a visit. Love it! She is much fast than I, but I do my best to keep pace with her. I have ran the Stampede half marathon the last two years and had a great time.

Craig, yes, my training will be different this year too. Hopefully I will be 20 pounds lighter as well. I really didn't push myself much, just got in the steps.

Angie, I have been meaning to tell you that I am so impressed with the great runs you have been putting in lately!

Jen, yes, HA on them is right! You go girl!::yes::

Krista, great job getting those intervals up! :yay:

Anne and Vic, great job on your 5 and 8 milers! I have been away from running now for so long, 5 and 8 miles seem like such a long distance now. Amazing just two months ago, all the WISHers were all bringing in 10-22 mile long runs!

Cam, I love your 'random observations'. I too don't have many friends that are actively running or working out. I know a few ladies that will run a 10K or half-marathon once a year, but they just understand or have the same philosophy as my teammates here on WISH!:grouphug:

Colleen

Yes, I did 16 Saturday. I started around 0730 and it was around 27 degrees. Did the 1st 8 by myself with a pace of around 8:30...this seems to be my pace lately.:confused3 Then I met up with sis and ran with her. She is training for her 1st 1/2 marathon and we ave a pace of 11:15. We had a blast...well I did anyway.
Here is a Pic of us b/4 she started running. Remember, I had already run 8 miles and that is why I look ROUGH!
Snowday-1.jpg

Cam - WTG on your LR and the pace!

Dave - Was the wind Kick'n Chick'n? WTG!

About Bree - I have told her to post! I guess the baby thing is taking up all her time. But everyone is doing well.

Jim

And I got the opposite problem. He loves to race, but won't do any training. I have to do all the training without him.

That just kills me. He can go out there and match me step for step on short runs and not do any training, except JROTC at school. I train all the time and still have to work really hard to beat him.

Maybe that is why I like longer races....he can't keep up with me.

TiffJ - I will be able to recognize you at RFTT, you will be the one who looks most rested with that " I have been on vacation" glow. :dance3: Sounds like a great plan to me.
Angie

No, she will be the one with the look of "I've just been to Palo's and can't move!" :lmao:

I've never been on a DCL that they did not have to roll me off.

Dang last week went by fast. I didn't do much training last week, a couple of days biking but no running, since I was trying to get my calf to feel a little better. It seemed to work and it is feeling much better now.

I did get out and do a 5K race yesterday. The company's medical center is having a wellness week and started it off by having a race. It was all employees and family members so everyone had a little competition of not looking bad in front of coworkers. It was a nice run and I figured out it was the first 5k I have done in about 10 months. :rolleyes1 I was a little slower than my PR but still finished in 29:30. So much for taking it easy so I wouldn't overdo it before the Sarasota half next Sunday.

I will probably take it easy again this week and just get some easy walks in or maybe bike a time or two. Definately don't want to injure anything this close to the race.

I have been keeping up with reading but just not posting. Hopefully this week will be a little better at posting. Someone around here is getting antsy about me getting a room cleaned out and set up with a different set of furniture. So most of my spare time involves moving and restacking things all around our house. Judy you need to stay away from our house for a while since you would be appalled at what you might see. :lmao:

I will try to write to everyone else later tonight.

Bill

Angie, Jim, Anne-I am definately worried about gaining 10 lbs in 4 days & then trying to do a 10k. (and one with food too) but I am planning, hoping to actually use that gym I've heard tell of on the ship. Never in my life did I ever think I would want to exercise on a cruise:upsidedow

Cam-I can so relate to what you mean. Besides my mom & you guys no one IRL does anything, much less endurance training. When I was leaving for WDW & told her about the 1/2 I was doing her response was "on purpose?" They just don't get it. My BF whom I've done so much with for so long doesnt get it either. I had her at the 15k last year but she neither trained for it or got addicted to it like me. Oh well, we have each other :grouphug: I am so in awe of how busy you are & what you are doing for your health. I am proud of you!!! You keep it up!:thumbsup2

Anne-I thought Parker would care more that I beat him, but he wasnt feeling great & just didnt care about trying that day.

Angie-good luck with your new job! I used to work in a bank & had to wear panty hose. I hate those things. I havent worn them since I quit 5 yrs ago!

Martha-Your doing great! Keep up the good work!

Christa-WTG on your 16 miler! Can you bottle up some of your energy & send it my way ;)

Krista-when you finish, could you come do my closet. It is a disaster & I keep having to climb over all my shoes laying around to get to my clothes.:scared:

Craig-sounds like a good plan!

Jen-I cannont even imagine living somewhere where they have snow plows, :scared1: I hope you are better soon!!!

Vic-Hey, you got those steps in! I did my LR yesterday because it was supposed to be 90% chance of rain today. Well today was 63 & gorgeous out, but I got it done. That's what counts.

Andrew-good job using that TM for its intended purpose:woohoo:

Tomorrow my baby will be 6. I cannot believe it:sad2: Time flies, it seems like I just got back from WDW & its been almost 2 mos. He has decided to just have 1 friend with him so we can do several things since he could not decide where to have his party. :woohoo: I got out of having a party!!! We are going to Wacky Bear (like Build A Bear) and then Chuck E Cheese. We are party animals:lmao:

Kristi--I had a dream about you Friday night. I dreamt Stephen and I were at WDW and the GGD's were there performing. I kept saying "we have to get a picture for Kristi" but we didn't have to camera with us. I was so upset that I didn't get a picture for you!!
:lmao: But....why was I not in Disney too? I mean, the day they do a show at House of Blues, I am so there!

I had a dream last night that I was somewhere doing something, and John was there! But not Karen. :confused3 I woke up before I knew what I was dreaming about.

Angie - Well, it's pretty bad when you live in NH and have APs! And go to FL 3-4 times a year to use them. I have problems!

Anne
- oh I wish I finished his race book! I only did his bibs and souvenir type things from the races. I even glued the DVD recap thingies onto the pages! :rotfl: I have no idea where all the pics are from each race - I have to do those so I can put all these lovely completed pages into his book. But I have a great start anyway.

Jen - you are right - HA on them!!!

Tiffany
- I agree with Jim! The one & only time I was on the Disney cruise, I could not get my pants zipped off to get off the boat! Well, I finally managed to zip them, but I was beyond comfortable & could barely move. So just be careful - all that 'free' food is evil!

Mel, nice Mantra paragraph.

Dave, welcome to my world with the nausea. Good job getting past it – it always passes for me. By the way, I haven’t run with music in probably 7 years. I simply enjoy the sounds around me too much to have them interfered with by music. Now a treadmill is another story – have TM must have TV. Great job on the long run.

Christy, great job on the 3K race and your friend’s first race – awesome job.

Jim, great job on the 10K and 5K. W hat are the odds of a perfect tie? It was fate!

Cam, great job getting out. I really put in extra times on my runs this past week because it was actually above freezing most days. Are you getting hit with the slop (snow/sleet/freezing rain) today?

Vic, 14 miles done no matter the method is always awesome. Hope you enjoyed the nice warm sunshine the rest of the day.

Krista, Good job on your 5 miler. As far as the IT band there is one stretch that I have found works best for me. You start out standing, place one foot directly behind the other then lean away from the front foot with your arm over your head (like a ballerina). Make sure you are close to a wall or a rail for balance and enjoy the stretch.

Jen, sorry to hear about the ear infection. Sending PD :wizard: your way.

Martha, good job the speed work.

Craig, nice run on the TM and even a nicer training plan. Good luck!

Leana, sounds like the paths in Calgary are better maintained than those here in Pennsylvania. Good job on your run.

Christa, wish I could look so good after 8 miles. Are you training for another marathon with putting in 16 milers?

Bill, good job on the impromptu 5K and good luck in the half next week.

Sorry if I missed anyone and did not reply to last weeks thread but a bit busy this weekend. Will make more of an effort later in the week.

Well today I ran a total of 10.34 with a nice little 7.84 mile trail race sandwiched between a 1 mile and 1.5 mile warm up and cool down run (see race report titled The Ugly Mudder has frozen over). Had a great race and am now getting ready for some of that snow/sleet shoveling cross training.
Great training all.
Mike "goofyguy" B

I am not good at keeping up with everybody, but know that I am reading them all and can't believe you all!

Christa -- I hope I someday have an 8:30 avg. I set the goal to have 5 runs under a 10:30 avg. in the next 4 weeks. Fingers crossed!

Chimera/Mel -- The Non-Runner's Marathon Guide? Is that the name of the book? Is it worth buying? It sounds like it might be... I am copying that quote into my training log. I may not have daughters yet, but when I run I often think of the mom I want to be someday!

Kristi -- What does liking Goo Goo Dolls have to do with the need for marriage counseling? I run to GGD a lot! Hmm...

Dave -- your splits look awesome, too! Those are the same kind of times I'm shooting for right now. I did 10 miles today, 2 weeks from now I do 12. I'll let you know how I do! (today's run wasn't very good. It felt like pulling teeth!)

Martha -- I try to add five minutes, too. The hardest step is the one out the door, and tossing in the little extra will hopefully have big paybacks in the long run! Keep it up!

Jim -- THAT ROCKS! What a cool thing for you and your son!

Cam -- I know what you mean about not knowing very many "active" people. It is saddening, especially because I teach a group of kids who are seemingly jumping out of their skin looking for an outlet for their energy, but so many parents these days don't do much, either. Then they get into middle school, where I coach basketball, and hate being active because it's "too much work." It's scary the wake-up call that a lot of people are going to get. Let's just be glad that we have WISH!! You are more ambitious than I. I do my hamster wheel (treadmill), but cannot bring myself to venture out into the snow...

Mike -- I haven't read your race report, but the Ugly Mudder sounds like a good one. What an odd distance for a race, though??? Keep it up!

As for me, I didn't get much training in this week, but forged ahead with the 10 miler today. 10.38 miles in 2'01:36, an avg. pace of 11:42/mile. This was a difficult day for me, but I think it has something to do my 4 mile workout yesterday. I really need my rest before and after long runs.

Keep up your awesome work, everyone! And, do check out the race/events calendar and make sure your stuff is up there!

Enjoy the week, and travel safely if you are in a snowy place!
Ashley

Kristi -- What does liking Goo Goo Dolls have to do with the need for marriage counseling? I run to GGD a lot! Hmm...
Ashley - I think Sunny was referring to my, umm, obsession with them. :rolleyes1 In fact I am traveling over 3 hours to see them do a show at a college in CT next month! I am going to be the old lady in a see of college kids! :rotfl: Thank God Chad deals with this little quirk of mine. ;)

And they are great to run to - esp. lot of the older songs.

Time to catch up...

Ashley - Great job on the run today. That was a great time especially since you had a run the day before.

Mike/Goofyguy - That race sounds like it could be interesting. I'm glad you had a great time and are looking forward to doing it again.

Kristi - I would figure by now you would have all the secret cameras set up so you could watch all the GGD concerts from the comfort of your couch. Of course you still need to go to some of the concerts to keep them guessing about the cameras. :rolleyes1

Jim - Great job on beating your son. That is pretty amazing that you actually tied down to the hundredth of seconds.

Christa - You look great for having done 8 miles before the picture. Especially at that pace. They would be picking me up off the road if I had just done that.

Leana - Great job on the run. I'm glad they were able to clear a pathway off that you could run on.

Craig - Glad you are feeling better and were able to get a run in. I dislike going on the runs when I don't feel quite right. Good luck on your training this year and I hope that you are able to do everything you want.

Martha - Great job on your training run. I still despise TM's even though I know exactly what I am doing.

Jen - Hope both you and DD feel better soon. Lynnda can commiserate with the ear infection. She got one over Christmas and it took forever to clear up.

Krista - Good job on the training run. I hope your IT band cooperates with the training for the pig. All the reorganizing could be considered cross training with the lifting and moving that has to be done.

Anne - Great job with the cross training. Throwing those things can be a great workout. I have an excellent painting project for you now that your arm is worked out and loose. :rolleyes1

Vic - Good job on the run. Don't you just love Florida weather and how it changes so quickly. Now if you could send a little rain down to us, it would be appreciated.

Cam - Glad to hear you were able to get out for training. I hope that you are able to find a shoe that fits correctly now. I know a few people that get out for a little activity but they definately don't put in the hours of training for their stuff.

Lily - Glad you were able to get some training in. Hopefully the weather isn't too bad right now.

Andrew - Good job for getting on the TM after all that work. I just love falling into the recliner and napping after yard stuff so running would probably be out of the question for me.

Kim - Hope you were able to get to the TM this morning. It is hard to believe that Minnie is coming up quickly.

Christy - That sounds like my kind of race. Although I'm not sure how appealing their food would be after running though. Was that the one in Orlando or is there another Outback race in Florida.

Dave - Great job on getting out in that weather. That is just way too cold for me. I don't think my body would have cooperated for that long without freezing up. I hope you are able to figure out why you felt bad at one point. I hate when something like that happens and there is no real reason for it. It makes me a little gun shy the next run.

Dena - Hope you are feeling better and the doctor can figure out what happened.

Angie - You definately can rest after 2 half's. I did that run a couple of years ago when a tropical storm was passing through. I think the extra wind helped my time since I could jump and it would push me forward. I have yet to beat that time although I do get close occasionally.

Mike/Optimator - Hope you enjoyed your rest day. That is definately one day during training that I actually make each week. The runs and cross training are toss ups but the rest gets done. :rotfl:

Mel/Chimera - Hope you had fun there. We went last week and were amazed by the crowds. I thought it should quiet down at some point. I like your quote

Bill

I just finished the closet and it looks AWESOME!! With my new shoe racks, I have room for like 6 or 7 more pairs of shoes. I think a shopping spree is in order!!! :thumbsup2

Kristi--Stephen and I are 16 hours away from WDW and we have AP's too. We usually make it down 3 times a year.

Mike--Thanks for the IT band stretch. I am always looking for better stretches to stay healthy, now that I think my IT band is healed. Of course I thought back in December, but my IT band started hurting on my 20 miler and then during the marathon so......:headache: :headache:

Christa--Great run with your sis!! I'm trying to get my sisters to start running or walking (I have 4 sisters). My youngest sister is starting to walk 3 miles a couple times a week. I keep telling her to do some 5K's with us, she says she won't because she can't stand the thought of anyone beating her!! :lmao:

Cam--I know very few people who exercise IRL as well. Of course Stephen does and my parents both do, but that's it. You guys are my life line!!!

Mel--Maybe you can wear your UA "undies" under your sheer compression shorts.

I gotta go, the Oscars are on and I love me some Leo Di Caprio!! Plus, my uncle Forest Whitaker is up for best actor!! ;) ;) ;) (By the way j/k, Whitaker is my maiden name and I've said for years that he is my uncle. Those of you who know me, know that's NOT possible!!!!! :rotfl: )

ETA Bill--WOW!!! Way to go on that power post, you are giving Carrie and I a run for our money. Great job on the 5K!!
