Wk of Dec 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

Preface: Yesterday I worked from about 8:30am until 2:30am this morning.... and just finished my 8am Statistics final. SO, if something doesn't make a whole lot of sense, forgive me.

Carrie-- Chris Spielman. I got to meet them when they came in on Friday to meet with SID and review tape. Very good guys. I must say that the entire operation, even though it required extra work, was a class act all the way. Another national championship trip--- we should really buy real estate down there or something. We leave Wednesday night, so things are a little crazed here.

Dave-- Absolutely normal. Your body just gets used to running at a slower pace and hangs there. I think what you will probably find is that after you taper, the speed will come back. That was the case for me last year.

Sunny-- And THAT is why we bought a fake tree this year. (Christmas is in two weeks?!?!)

Goofyguy-- Way to go getting that run in. :thumbsup2

OK, so quick run down of the week-- I) have scheduled runs today and a long run tomorrow. The weather here is GORGEOUS right now, so that makes me happy. Leave Wednesday evening for Alabama and we'll be there through Sunday. There is a rumor that there is a fitness trail right near our hotel, which if that is the case will allow me to keep right on schedule. Otherwise I will be searching out a treadmill for shorter runs. Final back-to-back will be NEXT Monday and Tuesday and then TAPER!!!

It's the final week of long runs for most of us! Keep up the good work! Eyes on the prize and remember why you are doing this!!!!! :thumbsup2

Kevin :earsboy:

Good Morning Team:

Thanks for the well-wishes regarding my concerns about getting slower. I know I shouldn't worry about it. I'm just a little too uptight about these things, and I'm getting nervous for the upcoming marathon. I hope my last real LR goes well on Saturday. I've been planning on going 23 miles, but we'll see how it goes. I may taper that back to 22 or 20 based on the discussion here. Nothing for me yesterday training-wise, I had a scheduled rest day. Put the Christmas tree up, decorated, grocery shopping, laundry, and watched my fantasy team get knocked out of the playoffs.

Kristi- Your house looks gorgeous. Thanks for posting the pictures.

MelR- I like your post of your wierd socks. Hope the boy is feeling better soon.

Mel/Chimera- I hope your foot starts doing better soon, but I'm jealous of your trip to WDW. That's some great cross-training, walking around the world.

Jodi- Good luck with your doctor's appointment. You should sign up on the pacing partners thread to find some people to do the 1/2M and M with. I'm sure you'll find someone at your pace. Sorry your friend won't make it.

DianeL- Good job on your 10, 11, and 12 mile walks. Your PalMickey's sound very cute. Glad you'll have company for the race. So what is this kitty harness? I wonder if it will work well for my princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, to carry them around the park?

Carrie- Thanks for your kind words about my pace. I think I'm just getting sensitive about all these speedsters that show up to the races around here. I'm deciding there is just a huge and very competitive running community here in Rochester. That's OK, as long as I have my WISH team for support. Hope your legs are doing OK. Sorry to here the steps took it out of you that much. You must be in some real discomfort. Shoot, we were planning on going to MGM on Monday after the marathon. Are we going to miss the lights? Maybe we'll have to go earlier, but I'm not sure when to fit it in. Maybe that's a reason to go back to WDW in 2008.

Krista- Yahoo! Glad you had a great, pain free run. That's fantastic! Mmmmmmm, so you're sending out cookies to your WISH team mates, right? Yup, I'm definitely nervous about the really big LR this week. I did 20 miles 2 weeks ago, and it did not go well. So I'd love to get to my taper with a really good LR. All along I was thinking of doing 23 miles (and I've been building gradually to it) as my last LR so when I get to Disney I would have done it all but a 5K. However, I'm starting to wonder if that may be too long of a LR, and I may actually do myself a disservice going that far. Thanks for the kind words about my 10K. The course was pretty desolate. I didn't wear my MP3 player because I was in a "race", but I was running by myself and actually getting kind of bored. I missed my music. It's funny because I was thinking on my LRs, I get to 6 miles in no time, and in the 10K this weekend the 6 miles just felt sooooo long.

Mike- I hope your wife's recovery is going smoothly. Is she going to be able to go to WDW with you? Great job on your back to back training runs! I am impressed with you gutting it out after wanting to quit at 12 miles. WTG!!! :thumbsup2

Sara- Welcome back. Good job on your 13 miler. How's your motivation these days? Are you excited for the upcoming races now that they are so close?

Sunny- Your training is really impressive to me considering the state you were in earlier. That is fantastic that you haven't missed that many LRs at all. Good for you. Hope you're feeling well.

Cam- Take care of yourself (and your family). You have sooo much going on right now. Sounds like your 5 miler went well, and if you overslept it's probably because you really needed too. Gotta listen to your body. Thanks for the kind words about my picture. Yeah, I do have to remember that the running (and finishing races) makes me happy no matter what my pace is. I just have to remember that, and not get caught up in comparing myself to the other runners.

Kevin- Whoa, I can't believe your work day and then having a statistics final after that. Impressive. Hang in there. You must be about done with finals, right? Good luck on the National Championship Trip!!! Thanks again for your kind words. You must be right, I seemed very comfortable running at that slower pace. I could have gone much longer than the 10K, but I couldn't have gone much faster. Maybe after this marathon, I'll work harder on increasing my speed with some track workouts. Wow, I can't believe I'm planning for something after this marathon. OK, just let me get through this marathon.

OK, I should do some work now before my run over lunch.

Dave - Sunday night is the last night for the lights. If you can, try to get there.

VIP for runners and fans? That sounds awesome! I think the VIP runners pack would make me too nervous. I'm sure teh better runners will be using this. For teh scream team it might be a nice way to shouw our appreciation. I already got tehm sweatshirts, though. WIll have to think about it. They make a world of difference adn go through a lot to get ther adn get up so early to be in the cold (or at least they wer last year.) Hmmmm....

Good Morning Team. Did anyone miss me while I was gone last week?? I popped in a couple of times to witness all the shenanigans!!!

I ran on the treadmill at the hotel on Tuesday, then nothing else until Friday when I did some cross training. I did a lot of standing and walking and my hip was bothering me from that. I was supposed to do an 8 mile long run on Saturday, but had some personal issues that really brought me down. Planned again for Sunday and then had some more issues come up. So I slept the afternoon away, got up and said I have to do something. I managed 70 minutes of r/w on the treadmill, which is better than nothing. As of Sunday morning I had completely given up on running, I was so sad!!!!

This morning I didn't get up because I wanted to rest. I may jump on the treadmill when I get home. Is it normal to spend this much of my training on the treadmill??? This won't hurt my progress will it? I tend to run slower on the treadmill and just plain hate it. I can walk to my hearts content, but running just doesn't work the best for me. I think because I have to keep a constant pace and can't alter my speed when I want to.

Kristi - WOWZERS, those sure are some pretty lights. Where did you get the Mickey ones? Did you make them or buy them?

Dave - You are one of the speedy ones in my book. Don't worry about slowing down. Also remember that there are so many other things happening this month. Come January, you will be cruising the World!!

Carrie - Your tree made me giggle. My girls got sick this weekend, so we didn't get ours yet. But I remember the years that we had trees with holes in them. Or the year that our tree was so big around we couldn't get it through the door. Then once it was inside, it took up half the living room!!!

OK, I have a TON of work to do. 2 weeks before Christmas and I have all these people scheduling meetings with me. I just need a break!!!

Well, I am really glad I am not the only one who missed this week's LR. I had intended to run 24 on Saturday, but it seemed like everything was going against it. 1) It was 26 degrees!! 2) I had spent all day Friday at the hospital with Lucas who had an ear infection and eye infection. 3) DH and I ended up in a disagreement, which just put me in a foul mood. So, I just didn't run it. I am hoping to run 20 this Saturday, and then start my taper!! Let's hope it all works out, that the reason I am feeling so crappy today is because I had one too many beers last night, and that I am not coming down with the kids coughs. That the weather stays as nice as it is right now. And that my DH realizes he has to leave me alone on LR days!!

Sunny - You are not the only one trying to prove that it is possible. I have found that I am fighting to get in 3 days of running a week, but fortunately I have only missed 2 LR's this one included. So let's hope it's enough to get me through.

I wish I had time to catch up with everyone, but I'm off to clean the house and bake cookies for Michael Pizza Party at school.

lol. I coudl take a few holes. My tree is more like one big hole, with a few branches stuck in it. lol. I think most northerners did most of their workouts on TM by this time last year. You'll be thrilled to get outside again. that will help you a lot!

Dana - :wizard: That you're not sick!!!

FYI for those interested in the VIP Lounge..the site will have a link that opens at 12 noon EST. :sunny: Anne

It's now 12:30 EST and nothing has opened yet. I'm with Carrie; I think WDW is going to offer this to the elites...

Never had a chance to catch up on last week's thread. I will have to go back and find the photos of Kristi & Chad's lights. Still no training for me. I have put together a plan for surviving and finishing the marathon. I am not sure I can do it, but I will at least start. DH needs me for the marathon. He will be running the 1/2 at his own pace on Saturday and will be walking/running at my pace for the full on Sunday. He will need me to get him as far into the 26.1 as I can on Sunday. If I really slow down or can't finish, I will send him on without me. I really want him to get that Goofy medal!

You know, when I signed up for the marathon last January I thought I would have so much time to train for the marathon this year. It did not work out that way, but I have made significant progress in my endurance. While Sunny will find out if only doing LRs will prepare you for the marathon, I will be determining if only small to medium size runs over the course of 12 months will prepare you for a marathon. My longest run has been the DL 1/2, and my last LR was 9 miles with Carrie the first weekend in November. It is going to be rough, but I will waddle my way as far as I can. Remember the woman who got escorted/dragged across the finish line last year by Chip & Dale? That might be me this year. :rolleyes1

MelR and others- What's up with the ear infections? My DD went to the doctor this morning, and she has a bad infection in her right ear. They also gave us an inhaler for her cough. :wizard: that all of our children will be feeling better soon.

Happy Monday everyone!

Heather - Sorry you haven't had the trainign time. I don't know how you keep up with your world as it is, let alone get any training in. Just thing, though, being escorted by Chip & Dale woudl make for the cutest pics ever!!! :teeth: Try to do at least one more lr btwen now and then. :wizard: Hope your dd is feeling better soon!

I came on here to tell ya'll about the VIP lounge & Kevin beat me to it. Me & mom just registered for it. Come on guys, dont let us be the only penguins in the tent!!!!! We thought the idea of a heated tent, special character appearance & separate potties was worth it. I'm going to register my scream team now.

good to "see" you Heather!

Kristi-Gorgeous!!! That could be Chad's new job. They pay $2000-3000 up here to have someone put lights on. :sad2: Crazy people!

i'm thinking about the vip lounge, i just can't imagine spending any more $$ on this thing!!

Carrie - that was beautiful!!!! I did 8 on the tm last night and 3 today!! i can't tell you how much i needed that!!!!!!!!!!!!

i rode the 9.9 mile loop on the single speed this morning and my time was the best it has ever been (even when i have gears!) that was enough to motivate me to get my butt in gear and do the tm run today. If that hadn't worked, Carrie's video would have no doubt done the trick! :happytv: :happytv: :happytv:

Tiffany - thanks! I'll send him down to you to work then! ;)

And thanks to everyone that liked Chad's lights. He works very hard on them, and I drive him nuts since he spends all his time putting them up every November.

Oh and the Mickey heads: Chad welded frames together, then zip-tied rope light he cut to fit to make those. Very cool! He was inspired to make those when he saw the same thing at the Osborne Lights years ago.

Speaking of Osborne Lights - we will be there Thurs, Fri, Sat and/or Sun nights - it goes without saying! :teeth:

I am now frightened of what I will do when treadmill boredom sets in. I may get kicked out of my gym! What a great little clip though to help you laugh at treadmill mania! Thanks Carrie.

A heated tent and a massage? Hmmm. Wonder if they will let me in with my purple jersey on. I will so obviously be a beginner! hmm.

Heather- I hate to hear you talk about not finishing! I hope you amaze yourself!

Here is hoping all the ears get better and all the parents get rest!

Happy Trails!
Cecilia

I have mixed feelings about that VIP treatment. I have already invested a bundle to come to WDW and it feels a little like they are taking advantage. On the other hand.....it would be nice. I am undecided at the moment, but leaning towards toughing it out!

Kristi- Tell Chad I love his decorations, too. They look great!

Pat - I agree with you about the VIP treatment. I'm undecided about it too. It seems like they're saying "if you can pay more money, we'll treat you better." It just kinda bothers me.

Heather - I hear ya! Last year I finished 8 minutes over the time limit for the full. I did get the Mickey and Goofy medals, but not the certificates. I was bummed and was determined that I would train more to get ready for this year's Goofy. Yeah, right! So many outside influences have affected my training routine, that I don't think it can even be called a routine anymore. I feel less prepared than last year. My longest r/w, besides the DL 1/2 was 11 miles last week. I'm kinda hoping to get in another 13 this weekend and then cut back to shorter distances for the last two weeks. I'll be waddling along at the back with you. I think as long as I don't have the problem with the shin splints this year, I can finish under the time limit. Last year I slowly walked the last 1/2 of the full because I had very painful shin splints.

Hey everybody - I heard a rumor that Cam had a crush on the penguin from the movie Happy Feet! Wait, huh? what? You mean it wasn't THAT penguin? :teeth:
