Wk of Aug 5--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dana - Looking good! You go girl! :cool1:

Lily - Hope everything is OK!

Kathy and Lynne - Got my hat today, too! It was in perfect condition, bill on hat just fine. Thanks sooo much! :thumbsup2

Hi guys! Just got in from my 6 miler today. Well, really I had 5 on tap, but I was feeling good so I put the extra mile in. I'll probably cut my 5 miles of hills down to 4 on Wednesday now. Today is a holiday here so I was able to get the run in during the morning, but it was still hot! I finished in 1:07:57 for an 11:20/mi pace. I normally run 4:1 intervals but I tried 9:1 instead today and I still felt just as strong.

Coincidently, 2008 hotel rates have come out and I was able to apply the AAA discount to our room at the AKL - about a 15% discount.

OK, gotta run, sorry I can't catch up with everyone. Hope you guys are well, and :grouphug: for Lily and her mom.

Wow, sorry guys I am so far behind I don't think I will ever catch up on this weeks posts but I did read as many as I could.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHers. My baby will be 15 tomorrow....oh man I am getting as old as dirt:lmao:

Mexican was awesome....love mexican food and lucky for me it likes me also:thumbsup2

We also ended up at the drive in last night, saw the Simpsons Movie and the Chuck and Larry one....well DS and I watched those 2 my DH and DD watched Borne Ultimatium and Live free die hard.....we took 2 cars to the drive in as we couldn't decide on a movie all 4 of us wanted to see...

I hope you all had a great weekend!!!!!!

Kim

Geez--first I have a stonker of a run on sat. and then last night I had my first marathon nightmare. Don't know if it was due to the stonker run mindset, or the fact that the miles are getting higher and higher now in training--Whatever the cause, the nightmare woke me up in a panic around 5am. I had arrived at the race barefoot, in street clothes, and couldn't find the starting line. I was running around trying to find someone to point me in the right direction and then find out I have no one to watch my kids either. I tell ya, scared the bejesus out of me.

After that jolt out of bed, I calmed down and headed to the gym--got 4 miles in at around a 9:00 pace--much relieved that Sat. was just a fluke. Now to try to fit that pesky 16 mile LR in this week--will be hard as I'm working this weekend and the temps will be into the 100s by the time I'm off. Looks like the dreadmill once again, and maybe mid-week. Ugh!

Lily--PD and hugs to you and your mother! Please update us as soon as you know more!

JenGA--Hmmm, a climbing toddler--sounds oh, so familiar. Mine has a huge bruise over his eye from falling off a chair yesterday am. Boys! My sweet little girl was never such a monkey. Glad to hear that your DS is okay!

Cindylou--Great job on the 10 miler! That's awesome!

Dana--Looks like ya'll got some serious xt in on Sat. night!;)

Judy--Glad to hear that the foot is healing nicely--Can't believe it's already been 4 weeks

Happy Birthday to Cam, Steve and Bill!!! Hope you all had wonderful bdays!

Good luck to all those headed to CDC!! WISH I could be one of them, but no such luck--but can't complain too much--I did talk DH into the Minnie and ToT this year!

Okay, better go enjoy the peace and quiet while I can! Have a great Monday all!

Thanks for the well WISHes for my Mom. She's back and on the couch where I left her with an ice bag. I am lucky to live close to where I work so I checked in during my lunch. They said she has a pulled muscle in her arm. They were going to give her a sling, but decided not to bother since she uses that arm to support herself with her cane. She was told to ice, Tylenol/Advil and off ya go. I'm guessing that the pull isn't that serious then. Whew.

While I was home the mailman delivered my WISH Team hats! Whee! They look fabulous. I haven't tried mine on yet so I'll have to see if I too will need a new hair-do.
:dance3: :yay:

Thanks again WISH Team for the support you offered.

Stephanie, glad it was only a dream. Oh, the stress.

Jen in GA, glad your little one is ok. That is scary for certain.

Hi all --

I think the heat is getting to me as my energy level seems to be at an all-time low and I am just feeling blah. I did get to the Y to run 4.5 miles on the dreadmill. I forgot my iPod so I watched a stupid soap opera, which did nothing to improve my mood.

I definitely have WISH visor envy, so if anyone has an extra, PM me!

Sorry to be so blah, but that's just how it goes sometimes!

Happy training, all!
Renee aka Grumpy

Oh, crud, crud, crud!!!
I am here to WHINE!!!! I know you guys will understand.
I left my gym bag at home! :sad1:
I usually change clothes at work and go right to the gym because if I go home first, I just cannot get back out the door.
I was rushing out to work early at 7:15 and left without the bag!!
CRUD, CRUD, CRUD!!!! WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Renee, good job on getting your miles in! :cheer2: I know how you feel about the heat - we're under a code orange ozone warning here today, so I'm looking at an evening on the dreadmill myself.:sad2: Hopefully no soaps, though.

Lily, glad to hear your mom's back home and resting!

Stephanie, your nightmare sounds terrifying! Good thing it's not for real :) Good luck on your LR!

Kim, I'm so jealous! Wish we had a drive-in theater around here...

Congrats on your super 6-miler, Leana! Btw, I'm really enjoying what I've read of your blog so far - those boot camp drills sound intense!

Urg, back to work. Wish I could be looking forward to an outdoor walk/run later, but with the news telling us it's not safe to breathe outside today, I don't suppose that's such a great idea...

Oh, and thanks guys for the tips to amazon & target. Now my only problem is narrowing down exactly which model Garmin I might want/can afford

Cam that had to suck. You have my kinda luck. I have the key to the cash wrap computer cash drawer on my ring with my car keys, so my keys stay next to the computer, when I leave before the store closes I'm always forgeting to take my keys. I park at the opposite end of the mall I work at, to get a few extra steps. So when I don't remember the keys till I get to the Jeep It's another quarter mile back to the store and then back to the jeep again.

We did a nice brisk 10K this morning. We were thinking 8 to 10 miles but it was just to hot. By the time we had those 6 in it was 90 with high humidity.

Kitten is doing fine, I explained to it that today's procedure was not my idea. I don't want it waiting when I step out of the shower to get even.

Lily, glad your mom is ok.

Happy birthday everyone with a near birthday.

Dave:hippie:

Hey everyone-

Lily- glad your mom is ok.

Stephanie- My DD never, ever climbed either (or ate crayons, or communicated only with grunts and gestures). Harry's hopping up and down right now trying to see if he can't ram his glued up head into something hard. :scared: Oddly enough, he's also wearing a WISH bracelet... Oh, and I'm cracking up over your dream. How many of those will we have before the marathon weekend?;)

Cam- can you get someone at home to put your bag by your driveway or something? I totally understand your disappointment- I can't get out of the house either once I go in.

Renee- speaking of not having your stuff for the gym, you go, girl! I've actually left in a huge pouting fit when I've forgotten my iPod. I wouldn't have lasted that long.

Oh, and put me in the I WISH I signed up for CDC group too... I expect lots of race reports/pictures!

Jen in GA

Lily - Sorry to hear about your Mom's injury. Sending :wizard: your way.

Cam - bummer. Maybe you can start a new fashion trend. We'll call it business casual workout gear!

Stephanie - it's a little early for marathon taper madness to start!;)

I can't wait to get home to see if my visors arrived!

Is anybody here using Hal Higdon's walk the 1/2 training program? I know people use John Bingham's programs too. I had printed out HH's before and found it when I was trying to de-clutter last night. After looking it over, it doesn't seem like it would be too stressful for me to get back into the training groove with it. Just wanted some opinions on what people thought of it.

I'm thinking I'll use this program to get me through the Nike 1/2 in SF (I'm going to walk this one) and then transfer over to the marathon program for WDW (run/walk).

Terri

This is way off topic--but I thought cool--DH just called, he's on his way back from the PGA Championship Practice round--and they got to watch Tiger Woods play today. Guess it was pretty awesome! Just thought I'd share!

Oh, and I got my WISH visor today and already have it on! Thanks Lynne for getting this all together! Much appreciated!

ETA: Just noticed that the Marathon is at 91% capacity---anyone still need to register??? Dave???? ;)

Terri - I always use Hal's training plans. I tried John Bingham's once and didn't like it at all - love his books though!

Thanks, Leana, I saved about $75 on my POP reservation!

Hey gang! Tonight I had one of my best-feeling runs in a while! It's the first time I've honestly tried to *pace* myself, instead of just straight out running for as long and as fast as I possibly can (which always leaves me feeling kind of dead at the end). Since it was kind of warm and we had an ozone warning in effect today, I made a very conscious effort to go much slower than I usually would while running, in addition to incorporating walk breaks for my first evening trying out a run-5/walk-1 pattern.
Went for 6 miles, and since I don't have anything fancier than the clock on my cell phone, my approximate time was 1hr14min, or about 12'20" per mile. I actually think I was doing closer to 12 min per mile for the first 5, but my hip started twinging near the end, so I think the last one was 13 minutes or so. When I finished, though, I felt like I could have done more, and wasn't flat out exhausted like usual, so I take that as a good sign for a first step toward endurance sporting!

Hope everyone's having a great night!

Thanks for the support WISH Team. Mom is sore, but will be ok. I went out tonight and got in some steps with DH. He actually was ready to go and got me moving 'cuz I sat down. I am so glad I went out. We went for 40 min and I did 2.73 14:38 pace. DH did 2.26 for a 17:41 pace--a significant improvement for him. I can't believe how well he did and it was sooooo hot here too. My IPod died about half way through. Boo. DH used his and he said it worked to get him moving Yay!
:yay:
Moonie, you had a great training and I now cannot understand what ever that person was saying to you. You will be quite fast as the training gets more involved. Great job!

Terri, I used Higdon for Minnie, I just think it is a bit more aggressive for me. It worked great, but please be careful of things if you use the program. You don't want additional injury.

Cam, oh so sorry about tonight. That stinks.

WWDave, ya think you have to be shower proof?

Thanks for the sympathy, dear WISH teammates! Forgetting my workout gear worked out well, in a serendipitous kind of way. DS just turned 14 an can use the fitness center. I was able to get him an appt with a personal trainer to do a 1 hour orientation on weight training machines. He just found out he is marching cymbal line for marching band and the cymbals are heavy and he wanted to build upper body strength. So, I came home & changed and we both went to the gym for an hour. I took it easy on the TM for 4 miles in 60 minutes, but it felt much harder than it should have been -- maybe because it was wicked hot in there!

Lily -- I am so relieved to hear about Mom. Congrats to you and Ted on getting in the steps! So, does Ted have his own Garmin AND his own ipod? How cool is that? He might really enjoy hearing some of the Disney podcasts while he is walking. :goodvibes

Congrats to everyone who got their steps in, notwithstanding heat and life/work obligations! :thumbsup2

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I ran 5 miles yesterday after work. It was hazy, hot and humid out there. I struggled to get my steps, but I ended up finishing in 48:49 min/9:46 mpm pace. It wasn't pretty, but someone said tough runs make tough runners right?
