Wk of Aug 5--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey team!

Did 8 mile LR on TM today. It was soooo painful. Ok, not painful like I had a reason to stop, just really, really tedious. I think my problem is that Goofy seems so far away and I need a short term goal. I'm thinking about the Nike Virtual Half and I'll probably do it, but you use your iPod and you can stop and start and I'd be alone... I'll stop whining now. At least I stuck it out today- baby steps, baby steps! ;)

Got to get in bed (would you believe DD's first day of second grade is tomorrow!).

Shan- I did want to tell you I share your Nike+ pain. If the TM says I'm doing about a 10:30 mile, my Nike+ generally says I'm doing 9:20-9:45 or so. But, if I increase the speed on the TM, eventually around 8:00 or so they are about the same (I haven't been able to check this too closely since I can't last long!) At a 5k I recently did, the Nike+ tracked with the official times. Here's what I decided on my incredibly boring run today-- I don't care.:rotfl2: So what if my Nike+ says I'm going faster than I really am? It's not like I expect to win the race! (If I do the virtual half, I will try to check it more closely so I don't have to feel like a cheater). Anyway, that's my thought for you. It's a gift from the running gods, and I'm keeping it!:rolleyes1

Hey to everyone, and I have so much respect for those of you running in the heat--

OK, really have to go to bed now...

hey there - happy birthday cam and steve and anyone else.....

well cold died a happy death - so I ran 50 minutes Saturday and 90 sunday - and for the first time in a long time I'm raring to go - I actually want to go out today as well (but I didn't spend 4 months not running to muck my feet up again now so I'm doing press ups instead to work off the adrenaline!!!!!!) - do you think you can get taper madness when you're not actually tapering as that's what it feels like I've got!!!!

It's currently taking all of my willpower not to ask Tim when he's going to ask work for the time off in Jan - he only started the job last Monday and he's on three month trial so I'm aware that the answer is 'not until mid October' but the stress of training approaching not knowing that the arrangements are not 100% certain is a little high (although at the moment, I'm coming on my own if he can't make it!) Am now regretting talking my family out of coming to watch... hmm, seeing them in a couple of weeks, might work on them again the other way......

I'm debating whether to wear my tigger ears for Sunday's run - they could do with a bit of a stretch ready for the half (I can't wear them for the full, too much wind drag I don't need anything slowing me down even further), I may pop them in the my gear bag and check out the other people in my start group (this race is so huge they have four totally different start pens based around the edges of a park - each group then also has it's own start gun - it sounds very complicated or very organised, I'm not sure which!).

Anyway, better go as I just nipped in here on a work break - and I've been here an hour (oops!). Happy training - Helen

We are getting an early start. We have to have one of the Kittens at the vet at 7:30. He is getting spade or nutured or both whatever it takes. Then we will do 8 to 10 miles, depends on how much the heat effects us. It's supposed to hit a 100 today with about 100% humidity.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hello all...just checking in. I did a 12 mile long run early Saturday morning. My wife and I were planning to go out on our neighbor's boat at 9AM so I got up at 5:30AM (on my day off) to get in the 12 miles. Instead of running in Philly I had to run through the South Jersey neighborhood in the 90+ heat and humidity :crazy2: I made the mistake of trying to run down our local bike path and got attacked by dozens of pesky deer flies. I thought the Off would work but that only seemed to bring them on more and burned when it ran into my eyes with sweat. From now on I'll run in the roads until the Fall because the bugs are insane here!

I actually did pretty good with the 12-mile LR but my feet were sore from mile 3 to mile 10. I'm thinking I may need to look for new shoes or try to shorten my stride or both.

The day out on the boat was nice but I was exhausted from the sun and running. Although it's tough to complain about a day on a boat.

This Saturday will be 13 miles and it will be nice to see what it feels like to do a 1/2 marathon a month before the Phila Distance Run 1/2.

Good morning group! I made it out alive! I ran with my sister's training group last night, and I kept up pretty well. They run 10 minutes faster than my normal pace, but then they walk 2 minutes. I would get a decent recovery, and could keep going. Around mile 11 I did start to drag a bit. I have a bad hip and found that I couldn't lift my leg good enough to run the remaining hills, so I did walk the uphills at the end. Not too bad.....I would like it if I could do better the next time I run with them.

Weather was very rainy, but not to hot. Humidity was pretty bad, and breathing wasn't comfortable until mile 3 but then it got better! I am pleased that I did as well as I did since I am not used to such hilly terrain for my long run. :thumbsup2

We did a total of 13 miles in 2 1/2 hours, so I am happy!

Needless to say, I won't be running today! I will try to take Pilates though....probably good to stretch out!

Kristi - After hearing about the Faith Hill incident last week, you might have to be careful at some of your concerts. ;)
Oh boy...I better comment to make sure I don't get an even worse reputation than I already have around here! ;)
I don't touch Johnny's...anything!
My friends have snuck & touched the famous hair. I think that's weird.
One of them even grabbed his butt last time!
For example, at the Rack radio promo show last year....John had to squeeze right through the crowd & past me. I was standing right in front of the stair up to the small stage. My girlfriends were egging me on that I had to somehow touch 'the man.' I just can't do that. I wouldn't want crazy strangers groping me....so I can't do that to someone else. I couldn't even touch his arm. Besides, Chad was right behind me! :rotfl: j/k! Don't you guys know by now that I am all talk? ;)

I can't believe I missed Cam, Bill & Steve's brithdays! :bday:

I just had an epiphany and realized what my lack of training problem is.
IT'S ALL JUDY'S FAULT!
I have sympathetic-recouperation-syndrome! :rotfl2:
(that's my excuse & I am sticking to it!)

moon - I was also checking out ebay. :lmao:

Jen - I never run on the TM, but DH has and said it didn't work well with the Nike+. When I ran the track about a week ago it said I ran .22 instead of .25. I recalibrated it and tried it again - once walking and once running and both times it came out exactly .25. But, this past week my paces and distances were so much better. I still can't believe it. I really don't want to think I'm running faster than I really am. I'm gonna go back out to the track tomorrow and double check it again. We'll see...

Mel - I have yet to be able to get a run in while on vacation at WDW. I am sure you got enough walking in while you were there, especially if you hit the parks.

Terri - WOW what a drive!! Welcome back!!

MS Dave - Nice run!!

Cam - Happy Birthday!!

Steve - Happy Birthday!!

Bill - Happy Birthday!!

Sara - Happy Birthday Sara's DH!!

Beth - Congrats on the run!!

Ok Saturday night we went out to Club Paris. To say the least as much as I LOVE to go out dancing I wasn't thrilled with the place. There were literally 4 tables in the entire bar, and no chairs to sit at except for those 4 at the tables. I promised I would show some pics of me dressed up for once, so here they are!!

I am in the Gold shirt on the right!

I definately did a lot of XT with all the dancing Saturday Night!! I don't have anything to report from yesterday, but I am going to try and get some sort of workout in today, inbetween all the house cleaning I usually do on Mondays!! I hope everyone has a good day, and I'll check back in later.

Dana

Hi Everyone,

I'm back from my vacation. All I can say is I want to go back!! Life is so much easier at the beach. I posted my race report on the 7/27-29 race report thread. The short story is I ran 10 miles in 1:29:08 or 8:55 min/mile. I am so psyched about that result. I will try to catch up on all I missed last week and post later. Hope everyone is doing well.

Cindy

My training today is nothing exciting but I need to get myself motivated again so I'm going to post. I did 2 miles walk/run today in just over 20 minutes. It was my first run in about five days due to a cough that wouldn't quit. (I couldn't laugh, walk, lift things without it bringing on my cough, I hate that.) But I felt good and the cough seems to be mostly gone. So I should be able to get back into training now!!

I also am feeling more like running because my dog who was diagnosed as having an auto-immune problem seems to have turned a corner and is getting better. Usually this diagnoses isn't good but he's young and we're following the vets orders so he might recover from this bad spell and then it'll be a matter of just making sure he gets his medicines and stays on his special diet. Definitely happy news on the front.

I'll have to read and try to catch up with everyone. All this talk of football season has me on pins and needles for pre-season hockey!

Hello fellow WISHers :goodvibes

I love the motivation on this thread! I'm a walker and have been training for the upcoming RFTT and then onto the Donald in January.

I look forward meeting fellow RFTT participants :surfweb: and posting my training progress.

Thanks everyone who tipped me off to the Garmin! No luck at any of the stores I checked today, although I did find a bunch of ebay listings...:rolleyes1 doubt I'll have much luck landing one of those without getting outbid though, so for the time being I guess I'll try the online mapping technique. Thanks guys!

I just bought mine (less than 2 weeks ago) from Amazon.com. It's a brand new Forerunner 205 and was around $162...no tax, no shipping. My neighbor has one and she told me that was a very good price so I didn't bother searching anywhere else. I used it for the first time this weekend and loved it. If you intend to download the info and track your training progress then it's true that 2 people probably can't share it. If you're just concerned about the present performance then anyone can use it. I still need to read my manual to find out all the bells and whistles.

Greetings fellow Racing Team members -

Today is four weeks since I had my surgery. According to my surgeon the bone is now healed, so I am wearing my New Balance cross trainers to work. I think they go well in this corporate headquarters environment, don't you? ;) I still have to take it easy, be careful, and work on the swelling. Weird that a foot would have swelling underneath, isn't it? I wouldn't think that was possible. However, as pathetic as I am, I lined up all my running shoes and got out my compression shorts and running shirt. I'm gettin' ready! Two more weeks and I can get back on the road! YAY!:yay:

I must confess...I have CDC envy. I mentioned it to Charlie the other day and he again said "Why aren't we going?" I said fine, next year we are. :thumbsup2

Mel - Ohh, I'm just a little envious...You're still at WDW..... Ohhhhh..... Hope your foot is improving. :wizard:

SilverSteve - I am very proud of you! :thumbsup2 You done good!

MSDave - Holy moly! Those splits are fabulous! Excellent on the almost 30 miles a week. :thumbsup2 Say, umm, have you registered yet??? :rolleyes1

Moonie - I've taken some step classes and I have to say, they certainly were good for entertainment! If I wasn't laughing at myself I was chuckling at someone else struggling with which is left and which is right. I have a Garmin Foreunner which I love love love! Try Amazon or Target. Sometimes they have them on sale.

Stephanie - Sorry about the stonker. But today is a new day! :yay:

Vic - Oh no! :guilty: You need some TLC.

Bill and Cam and Steve
- :cake: :bday: :cake:

Minnie - I went to your survey post but I've never been on international business. How about a survey on stable management? ;)

Kristi - OMG! :rotfl: HA HA HA HA! :rotfl2: How's it my fault!?? See, now, I started reading your post but saw the big "It's all Judy's fault" at the bottom and automatically assumes this was a Goo-related issue and I was to blame. Well, if I am to blame for your lack of training then you better know, girlfriend, that I am getting geared up and ready to hit the pavement in TWO WEEKS. August 20th you better be out of bed at 4:15am, laced up and hydrated! :woohoo:

Dana - OMG what a hottie you are!

Cindy
- Welcome back!

Thinking of Sunny this morning....

Don't know if I missed this while I was away, but - any word on our WISH hats/visors? I know Lynne is recovering from Lake Placid. I leave for the World in 3 weeks and was hoping to wear it there.

You are all keeping me in smiles today!

Bill, your birthday story is cute. My Mom has always insisted that we celebrate, even if the "kids" are not always into the celebration. She says they need to know that parents have birthdays too.

Moon, WISHing that you find that eBay bargain. That would be great. Keep looking, you may find agood deal somewhere. Amazon and Target are usually ones to have something.

Terri, they are on their way to us. In the mail.

Jeanne, I read your Garmin story. Take it easy on DH or you'll be needing a wagon to haul him through the event! ;) Well at least you can take turns using it, maybe? It is a fun tool though.

Cindy, glad to have you back and that you had a good time.

Dana, fun pics! So different from running wear that's for sure.

Lou, you're right. No sympathy from me sorry about that day on the boat. Though the being eaten alive by the bugs resistant to off thing gets my sympathy for sure. Our "Off!" season is about here and I worry about the resistant-bug thng. They seem to be ok with the Deep Woods variety and leave me alone, but the sweat spill in the eye thing is so not happy.

Helen, WISHing that it all works out with Tim. That must be stressful not knowing if you can make those plans. Sigh.

Jen in GA, I like your attitude about Nike+ yup, take the gift.

WWDave, hope kittie is fine after the surgery and that your salk was ok with all the heat.

I'm not sure what I'm dealing with after I get out of here now. DH just called me to say he is taking my Mom to ER. She is basically ok but she did something to her arm trying to catch herself from falling due to her knee pain. I'm sitting here alone, with my heart in my hands...

Lynne has recovered from Lake Placid and is currently training for Wisconsin on Sept 9. She is doing her training in Hawaii as she is currently on active military duty and doing a clinical which allows her to play with the little ones.

The hats were sent out Friday by priority mail. I figure some of them should be delivered today. You should have it in time for WDW.

Erin and I are training with wogging on the nights she is not working. On the other days, I am going to the gym and she hits the TM when she gets home from work.

Everyone have a great training day.

:cool1: My hat and visors are here!:cool1:

I just got back from taking DS to the ER for a head injury- he's 16 months o' crazy! All is well, but I was traumatized. He was quite the trooper about the whole thing. He fell backwards out of a chair and got a deep cut- would you believe he was angry with me at the ER because I wouldn't let him climb on chairs? Hello, let them fix the first head wound before you get a second... geez...

Anyway, the hat and visor are fabulous!!! I loved the visor I bought for the Minnie Marathon, but this may be better...:dance3: The only bad thing is that my hair looks stupid in my visor-- is it totally insane to re-think my haircut based on running? So either chop it all off or grow the layers out so they don't poof with a ponytail... hmmm...:rolleyes1

Regardless, love my new accessories!

Lily - I am so sorry. I will keep you guys in my thoughts.
