Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Hey everyone! I have no running to report since I promised my foot we would rest for a couple weeks after CDC. DD14 and I went to the Y for a little XT yesterday. It's a bit embarrasssing...she can out-lift me by about double. I've never had a lot of upper body strength. My people tend to keep all their junk in their trunk ;) We did core stuff and arms. My foot isn't feeling too bad...in fact, probably the best it's felt in over a year. I'm going to try to take next week off too, but we'll see how that goes. I have a feeling I won't be able to stand it that long :rolleyes1

Welcome to all our new folks!

Jen...hope you're having fun in 'Ohio' ;) We may take a daytrip to 'Ohio' next weekend for DH's birthday. Btw, the onemoremile skirt does have shorts under it!

Cam and Howard...congrats on your 5K results!

Sunny...hope to hear from you this week!

Helen...great to 'see' you around! Have a safe trip to London!

Krista...I have a support idea for you if you're interested. I'm going to try to cut back on caffeine...maybe stop altogether. I could use some help, but wasn't sure if that was something you were considering. If anyone else is interested, we could make a separate thread.

Looks like hurricane season is starting to get festive. Heather and Rhonda, hope you guys aren't in Dean's path. Feel free to come crash here...we have shutters now ;)

Good training week everyone! Almost time to start official training for the full! I printed a training plan from RW's SmartCoach...only 3 running days per week in a 16 week plan. I'm trying to decide between that, higdon and Bingham, who has gotten me this far.

Morning team. Fueling up to head out for 12 in a half hour or so. Trying to beat the heat as much as possible--heck it was "only" 90 last night at 8, which is much better than it has been. Feels like fall!;) Okay, gonna finish my coffee and bagel. Will check back in after the run.

Jen--Hope Ohio is fun!;)

Mel--Junk in the trunk:rotfl2: Sorry, won't be able to join you on giving up the caffeine---it's my one crutch in life, and I figure, heck, it could be worse, right??? Just can't sacrifice my morning cup of joe--Cam, you with me on this?;)

Okay, really going now!

Good morning WISH Team.

Please welcome two new walkers to our ranks, Katwalks (Kathy) and Steffwalks (steffanie). They joined us last week these ladies are an awesome team.

I have to agree on the coffee, I need my cup before I head out to take on whatever the day throws at me. There have been several studies that show a cup of coffee is good for your performance also, for whatever studies are worth.

The weather is getting ready to cool down, I just know it is, so remember you heard it here first. The nice fall days are coming up soon also.

Have a great day everyone.

Dave:hippie:

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!

I have to admit that I also will probably never give up my coffee but I did give up sodas when I was trying to lose weight.

MEl I'm glad your foot is feeling better.

Stephanie Hope your run went well.

Went for my 7 miles this morning, longest since MINNIE, left a little later than I wanted and ended up running directly into the sun, the last 3 miles it was BRUTAL!!! :scared1: I really don't know what my time was, but I did it, I finished, right now that's all that matters to me

Have a good Sunday everyone.

angie

Good morning Team!!!!!

I am back.....just 2 more crazy days next week and life should be back to normal for me.

Family reunion was yesterday it was so much fun there was over 70 people there which spanded 3 generations. I had great, great nieces and nephews there. It was also sad as our parents have both passed away and yesterday was also the 1 year anniversary of my great, niece who passed away at the age of 14 of a brain anerism (sp) To look atthis big group photos to see what started with 2 people...my mom and dad.....seemed weird however, since I am the baby of the family my oldest sister was there from England and she is 64 years old and I am 41 so I am basically the same age or younger then some of my neices and nephews:confused3 ....think I was a ooopssssyyyyy:lmao: ...the sister closest in age to me is 52.:scared1: and there are 7 of us all together.

OK enough about me....I willnever catch up with last weeks thread so I hope training is going well for you all.

Thoughts and prayers to all in Hurricane Deans path, hope you are all safe:grouphug:

Angie WTG on your 7 M

Stephanie Good Luck on your 12M today, hope you get it completed before the heat starts up too bad.

WWDave Good Morning

Mel Hope your foot is getting better!!!

Well I am not a coffee drinker but I do need my cuppa tea.... I gave up pepsi for about 5 months at the beginning of the year and lost weight rather quickly with doing that so since today I am back on the getting ready for my 1/2 in 6 weeks:scared1: I am going to give it up again!!!!!!!

Hope you have a wonderful day everyone!!!!!

Kim

I'm back from my run. And it was great! 12 miles in 1:47:49 :cool1:
Splits:
Mile 1: 9:03, mostly uphill (I live in a valley between two hills--so it's really uphill both ways!;) )
Mile2 : 8:43
Mile 3 8:55
Mile 4 9:19 (walk break and powerade)
Mile 5 8:49
Mile 6 8:31
Mile 7 10:18 (potty and gu break)
Mile 8 8:43
Mile 9 8:49
Mile 10 9:13 (walk break and powerade)
Mile 11 8:34
Mile 12 8:44

I was really happy with this run. The heat did start to get pretty brutal around mile 9. This is the first run where I had scheduled walk breaks--normally I only walked when I couldn't run any farther, or had to have a potty break. It really effected my workout positively--I lost no time walking, and felt better the entire time. I think I am going to incorporate this into all my workouts now.

DaveWW--I was thinking about something you said a couple days back about having to walk in the gutters and people in cars eating/smoking/talking on cellphones. And I realized today how lucky I am to live where I do. Today, no joke, I would guess that people out running, walking, or on bikes outnumbered cars at least 2:1. And I have the luxury of living in a planned community where walking/jogging paths are integral in the city design. The original city planners designed our city where you should be able to walk from one end to the other w/o ever having to walk on a main road. No longer will I take this for granted!

Kim--glad to hear the family reunion was fun. Good luck with the 1/2 training and on giving up the juice again (Pepsi I mean!)

Angie--WTG on the 7 miles!:cool1:

Christa--Great job with the run and the biking! You are a machine!
Okay, off to the showers with me! I am wet from head to toe--blech!

Hello,

Peeking out from under my lurker rock here.

Mel- Glad your foot is feeling better. I keep trying to quit caffeine and never quite make it. I suffer from very painful headaches:headache: when I try to go off it. I can't imagine how awful it would be to try to go cold turkey. I'm just glad I never had an interest in other drugs because I would not be compliant with my rehab!:sad2:

Stephanie- I envy you your nice running town! We have a pleasant one mile loop at a local park but it gets SOOO boring going around and around. I'd like to have a whole town to run safely around.

WWDave- You're right about the weather cooling at least here in PA. It's right around 60 degrees now. Pretty good running temp!

Kim- Glad your family reunion was so nice!

I did 13 miles today in 2:15. I was hoping to make it 5 minutes faster but still feeling pretty good about it. I've got a half in 3 weeks.

Have a great week.

Kiena

Good morning everyone!

3.5 miles on the TM this morning. No foot issues and the inserts seem to agree with both feet.

To our new teammates - :welcome:

Mel – No hurricanes!

Stephanie – WTG with the 12 miler! How long were your walk breaks? I plan on walking the water stops during the marathon and I'm trying to workout my timing.

Angie – WTG with the 7 miler!

Kim – Glad you had a great time at your reunion.

Kiena – WTG with the 13 miler!

I’m an avid coffee drinker. Probably a pot a day. Gots to have my caffeine. :surfweb:

:)

Vic - I am hoping to walk through the water and food stops too. I even tried to get together a list of when all the water/food stops were at WDW, but couldn't quite get it figured out. I have found that I am horribly comfortable with running 4:30 and walking :30. So comfortable that mentally when I don't I become immediately exhausted, which I know is not truly the case. I don't know how to get past that.

Michael's football games went great yesterday, his team one both games! YAY!! I am hoping to show you guys some pics later. He is absolutely adorable in that little football uniform!! I didn't get any running in yesterday, so I am really happy I did my LR on Friday. Today is a rest day, then it's back to work!! I hope everyone has had a great weekend!!

Dana

Morning folks!

First the big news....I am officially an auntie! My neice, Avery Maria, was born on Saturday at 17:17. I saw her last night for about two minutes before everyone was booted out, so I am heading back today to try to see her some more. Mom and baby are doing well, and I'll post a picture when I can.

Yesterday morning I went out early for a 10 mile run. It was chilly when I started out (about 48 deg) and it warmed up to 60 deg while I was out there. Perfect running weather. Things really seemed to come together on this run. I felt like I maybe had started out a bit fast, but it turns out I was able to keep a good pace up the entire way. When I hit mile 3 I actually ran into my boot camp instructor's running group so I ran with Sheena for a mile until we split off. Sheena counted the push ups we did at boot camp on Thursday. I thought 200....really we did 250! These were push ups leaning against the stair railing so less tough than normal push ups...but still - no wonder I am sore! Anyhow, I finished the run in 1:51:25 for an 11:09/mi pace. I even knocked off 1.5 minutes from the last time I ran this route back in July.

Mel - So glad to hear your foot is feeling better! Good luck giving up caffeine. I don't have a ton of it, but I do enjoy a cup of tea in the mornings at work and the occasional trip to Starbucks.

Angie - 7 miles - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Kim - Glad to hear you got a good time at your reunion. 7 kids all together? Wow..!!

Stephanie - Awesome 12 miler!!! Sorry to hear the weather is so hot for you! As WWDave says though, I'm sure cooler weather is just around the corner. I know we have that happening here.

Kiena - Glad to see you back here. Congrats on your 13 miler. Sounds like you are ready for your 1/2!

Big Vic - Glad to hear your feet were feeling good on your run!

Dana - I was running 4:1 until recently and I switched to 9:1. It still isn't enough for me to make it just from water station to water station, but I have to say I really didn't feel the change all that much. And my pace is still the same, if not a bit better sometimes.

Poppy in at a near drive-by pace:)

Mel-- good luck with that foot. You tell DD14 she rocks! Keep her pumping iron. We need more strong women role models.

Stephanie-- you're smokin' great splits

Kim- Ya for family reunions. It really makes a statement when three generations can get together and enjoy each others company!

I wading through the CDC reports and loving them! Awsome WISh presence.

WWDave-- welcome to your friends! It will take me a while to get the new names straight:)

Krista-- I was decaffed for 7 years. Just went back on the stuff to combat the "zombie" side-efffect of Neurontin/lyrica. I know that if you go cold-turkey you will feel fine by day 4. Good luck!

Opps, gotta run... I'll be back soon

Sunny

My 7 miles were a bit of a stonker yesterday. I am glad I did them though. It is raining here today. My average pace was 15:28 and I just couldn't get into any groove. I just simply put one foot in front of the other so I could get the job done.

Mel, I like you plan of taking it easy on your foot and XT. Your XT will be a good thing for you too.

Sunny, good to see you here.

Count me in on the I've gotta have my morning coffee. I just cannot give it up. Other things maybe, coffee seems to be something I enjoy.

Hi everyone!

I went on what was to be a 10-mile bike ride with my DH this am and he just about killed me. I don't do hills very well and he knows that but he said I gotta learn to "like" them so we went on a road that had some "fun" rolling hills.

The problem is that I have a city comfort bike, not a road bike, and well, these "fun" rolling hills were anything but fun. Oh, and then he decided that we needed to go a back way home and I wasn't very familiar with this road. Turns out that this back way had a looonnng gradual hill and then finally, the big monster hill. :scared1:

He said that I might have some problems with this one. Well, yeah! I couldn't make it to the top. I had to walk my bike up part of the way. Then, I get to the top and it looks just as bad going down the hill. I'm surprised I have any tires left from all the breaking I did. I did manage to ease off the breaks half way down and wheeeeeeeeeee, it was fun...a little scary but fun! This 10-mile ride ended up being 30 after it was all said and done. Whew!

I decided that after this Hotter 'N Hell bike ride next weekend, I'm going to look for a nice road bike. No more city bike for all these hills around here!

As for my running, I managed to get in nine miles this past week. Not much, I know, but my concentration has been on getting ready for the big bike ride next week. After that, I will start training for the full in January. :scared:

Mel - glad your foot is better! I'm weak in my upper body...my junk is in the trunk, too! :teeth: I'm going to start back with a personal trainer soon and he said we're going to work on this weakness. I'm not looking forward to it. He's a powerlifter...one of the top in the world. He's number one in the USA for his size category. I told him to be gentle with me. :scared:

wwDave - I've heard that about coffee as well. I don't drink it so I'm thinking that maybe my two cans of diet soda does the same for me. :rolleyes1

stephanie - great 12-miler! I'm ready for this heat to go away. However, I don't think it's going to be going anywhere for a while. The best we can hope for is that it's not triple digits any more.

Kiena - great 13-miler! Good luck on your half!

Big Vic - what kind of inserts did you get? I'm thinking about getting some for my shoes.

Dana - I have similar mental issues. (Hmmm, that doesn't sound right. ) I usually do the walk 3/ run 2 routine. I'm having a hard time breaking that because when I see the 2 minutes are up, I become exhausted and don't think I can run any further. I have actually run 20-25 minutes at a time but that doesn't happen very often.

Leana - congratulations on your new niece, Avery. :goodvibes A future WISHer for sure! Good job on the run ... an pushups. :thumbsup2

Sunny - good to see you. Hope you are doing better. :flower3:

Lily - Stonker or not, good going for getting out there. It was hard for me to get going after that half in January.

Sending :wizard: for those nursing injuries and illnesses.

The last time I was in Orlando I stopped by Fleet Feet in Altamonte Springs. They did a gait analysis and recommended Superfeet inserts. I could see the difference (pre insert Vs post). I haven't put a lot of miles on them, but they seem to be agreeing with my feet so far.

http://www.superfeet.com

Angie - Great job on the 7 miles!

Susie - Forecast for here this week is for more temps in triple digits. When I see Leana and Kiena talk about temps in the 60's I can't even imagine what that might be like!

Stephanie - Congrats on a terrific run! Galloway swears that the walk breaks are the key (I've been rereading his book this weekend so it's really fresh right now!)

Our LR yesterday was only 10 miles. Funny that after last weekend's 18 it should have been easy but it seemed just as long. The nice part was the pancake breakfast at the end - the group members brought supplies and the injured members cooked; we had all flavors of pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit, and OJ when we were done. Yum!

Today after church DD and I took the dog to Umstead State Park for a 3 mile hike. Discovered all sorts of new trails that I can't wait to go back and run! This is becoming a new Sunday routine for the 3 of us, and it's a great way to explore all the parks in the area. Like Stephanie, I'm really fortunate to live in an area with a terrific parks and greenway system. Despite the fact that it was already 90 degrees, there were so many people out hiking, running, riding - didn't see anyone on horseback even though one of the trails is also a bridle trail!

There's my niece Avery and her proud aunt Leana! She weighed 8.5 lbs at birth..!!

This weekend flew by. We were given the opportunity to get some hand me down furniture from some friends so the weekend (starting last Wednesday) was spent rearranging the house and moving furniture in. My body is definately telling me I am not young anymore. :lmao:

I did my 5k race yesterday as well. I finished in 29:05 and was pleased with the time since I think it is a PR for me. When they posted the results I found out I was 15th out of 18 in my age group. :scared1: Apparently all the fast runners are over here since the winning pace for my age was around 17 minutes. The good part was there was pizza at the end, the race name was I Run for Pizza, so everyone got their fill.

Billy ran the kids race at the end and just beat the mascot so he was quite happy. He was also going faster than me so he enjoyed that as well. He got his medal and nicely pointed out the fact that I didn't get one. Nice he notices these things so early.

Mel - Glad your foot is feeling better now. I guess since you now have shutters, we will have a quiet year right now. I briefly thought about cutting out the caffine but felt that it would be better for everyone here if I didn't do that. :rolleyes1 I might get thrown out due to crankiness...

Kathy and Steffanie - Welcome to the group.

Angie - Congrats on finishing the 7 miles in the not so great conditions. Glad you are feeling better.

Kim - Glad you had fun at the family reunion. It is always nice to get together with people.

Stephanie - Great job on the run, those split times are great. I always find walk breaks help me out during the run.

Kiena - Great job on the run. That is a great time. Good luck in a few weeks for the half, you look like you are ready for it.

Vic - Great job on the run. I will take it that you are feeling better now. Glad the feet are feeling better as well.

Dana - Congrats on the football games. Glad you were able to get your run in early enough.

Leana - Congrats on being an aunt. Make sure to spoil your niece properly. ;) Great job on the run.

Sunny - Did you have your next stimulator done yet?

Lily - Sorry the run was bad but congrats on getting out in the less than perfect conditions. That is better than I would have done, the bed is way too comfortable for me and easy to use as an excuse.

Susie - Great job on the bike ride. Good luck on the big ride next week.

Jackie - Great job on the 10 miles. The food would have been a great incentive to finish quicker. Glad you were able to find some new areas to run in.

Time to finsh up the house before work takes over.

Bill

Leana - Congrats on being an aunt.

Lily - Sorry to hear your 7 miler wasn't good.

FLBill - Congrats on the 5K. You're right, this weekend was waaaaaay too short.

:)

So, I posted my LR on the walking site thinking I was here.....oh well! I got 16 miles in today (((my longest yet!)))) It went really well! I felt good, and ran the whole thing except for a BR break and 2 phone calls. I didn't get that side stitch again like last week, and everything seemed to hold up well. I am really happy with it overall! Next week will be 18!

Welcome to the 'newbies'!!! Glad to have you join this little 'club'!

Leana: Congradulations!!! The baby is really cute!

Dave: Good job on the weight loss! I think I am down 2 this week, and I am happy with that! I did endulge in tuna fish yesterday, in your honor!

Lily: Sorry to hear that your 7 didn't live up to expectations! Better luck next time!

FLBill: Great time for your 5K!!

Vic: I am glad you seemed to be coming around! Hope that trend continues!

Everyone else..... I hope you all had a great weekend, and great training!

Beth
