Sunny- If you can fly from Manchester or Providence, you can fly on Southwest to Orlando. Right now both Providence and Manchester to Orlando is ~$260 round trip (I put in Jan 4 - 9th as the dates) for nonstop flights. As you may know, the nice thing about Southwest is that if you have to cancel a flight the money stays in your account as a credit for a future flight. You could make your reservation to Orlando, and cancel it the day you have to leave. You would get a $260 credit in your Southwest account that you could then use to book another flight. So you wouldn't lose your money if you had to cancel. Plus, if the flight goes down in price - say through a sale or DING fare, you could cancel your flight, rebook at the cheaper price and the difference would be left in your account to use for future travel.

Thanks, Dave

I didn't know about the credit thing. We could fly out of Manchester farily easily. I'll start investigating.

Kindergarten Parents: I'm late on this discussion, but I was a K Mom last Fall. I know what you are going through. It was such a hard transition. I never thought we'd make it through. Now DS is excited for first grade to start and I'm ok with it, too. Somehow you grow with them and you get through it and its all good :goodvibes

Colleen: I'm so sorry you may miss Goofy this year. I trained for the half of 2005 and had to drop out for family reasons. I know what a huge disappointment that is. I hope it will work out for you. :wizard:

Minnie: I'm so sorry you have delt with sciatica/hip pain for so long. I hope it changes for you real soon. :wizard:

Judy: Where will you and Charlie be standing as you scream my name? Mile 22 would be nice ;) Or maybe you could run along side me during the switch-back and scream the entire time :rotfl:

Sunny

Colleen - Great job on your 14 miles! :cool1:

Christa - Hope you're feeling better. :wizard:

Celeste - Good to hear from you again.

Pungodingy
- You're off to a great start!

WDWFan
- The Mt. Rushmore Marathon sounds like a lot of fun. I'll have to look into that one. And I think the COuntry Music Marathon is a hilly course. I seem to remember someone mentioning that before.

Hope everyone has a good training weekend.

Terri

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I did 45 min on the elliptical yesterday. I'm going to try to do 4 miles today in preparation for the start of real training next week. MfM has a 5 mile LR next Saturday, so I thought it would make sense to do a 4 miler today. I'm up now drinking some water and getting ready to eat a bagel to get something in me before I run.

Great training everyone!

Got up this morning to do my Short LR with DH and BIL. When I got up, I had such bad heart burn :confused3 That I could hardly keep anything down. I also had other gastro issues that we won't discuss here :rolleyes1 Anywho, I did eat toast and 1/2 a banana and took 4 tbsp of pepto (2 tbsp 1/2 an hour a part). Then I took 2 tums at the start of the run (can you see where this is going?)
I started and prayed for Sunny during the 1st 2 miles. I though, If I can make it to Bree's (@ the 5 mile mark after getting kind of lost on the new route) I will be OK. NOT! I thought...ditch the 10 miles and do the 7 miles with DH and BIL.
Sunny - I tried to keep praying for you, but my prayer started to be help me not to throwup on Park Road...a VERY busy street!
Got 2 more tums from Bree and the guys caught up to me. Ditched my H2O belt b/c it hurt to wear it. Ran to what I thought was 1 more mile (mile 6) then walked the rest of the way. Total 6.3 miles of running in lots of tummy pain and 1.4 miles of walking..DH wanted to come and pick me up but I was just a block away at this point. The total route was 7.7 miles. :confused3 I maped it out and thought it was 7...where did the .7 come from??
The break down of miles:
1: 7:30 - started 2 fast, but was trying to catch up after 1st bathroom break
2: 10:00 - caught up with guys and stayed w/ them
3: 8:30 - left guys and tried to get to Bree's and make up time
4: 9:00 - O the pain!
5: 9:30 - stopped @ Bree's and though I was feeling better
6: 10:00 - took a walk break so I would not throw up
7: turned off watch and walked the rest of the way! :sad2:

So sorry this was ALL ABOUT ME...I will try to catch up with everyone later! I still don't feel good so I am going to lay down.
Christa- I hope you are feeling better. Any idea what hit you yet? I hope you aren't getting any sicker.

Great training everyone!

Sounds like we are on the same plan today Dave.

I was going to go out with the running group today but my stomach won't settle this morning and they meet in an hour and half ~ Today I wanted to do my long run with them (7 miles) but I will just have to 5 miles by myself and then work in a longer run tomorrow.

Have you drawn up a schedule for you training for the Marathon? I figured everything out yesterday......but left it at work  I did get a Running Log yesterday too! You asked the other day if I was getting nervous......well, it's just hitting me now. :teeth: I'm sure we will both do fine though.

I still have to check in with my friend that will be doing the Goofy Challenge with me and the Hartford Marathon.

I actually made it out for the long run this morning. It wasn't foggy at 4:30 but it was still humid (close to 90%). One would think I would have this high humidity running thing figured out by now but I still wind up not drinking enough.

I went 13 miles with a pace of about 11:35. The first few miles were pretty good but by mile 11, my legs were definitely complaining. It probably didn't help that by mile 2 I was soaked. After relaxing I found a few more muscles but they are getting better quickly.

I also found the source of my calf pain. Last night I discovered a nice knot in my calf. Lynnda had a blast trying to rub it out and pull me off the ceiling when she hit it too hard. :rotfl: Then I noticed that she kept going back to it to see how much I would flinch, I think she was enjoying it a little too much. Now to figure out what I forgot that would elicit all the glee. However it did feel a little better afterwards.

Dave -- Hope your run this morning is a good one.

Pungodingy -- Great job on the improvement. Keep up the good work.

Pat -- The Country Music Marathon sound interesting. We may have to put that on our list as well. Although these trips are getting a little expensive :rolleyes1

Krista -- Getting the family to participate is great. We have tried to get various parents to do small race/walks but we just get these strange looks.

Celeste -- Great to see you again.

Sunny -- Good job on the run. You have plenty of cushion from the sweepers.

Christa -- Hope you feel better. Running while you are sick is no fun.

Cruella -- Earlobes hurting...that made me chuckle. I have felt that way a couple of times and decided that I am not that young anymore. Hope you begin to feel better.

Bill

Good Morning Everyone!!

Christa - I am so sorry for the Tummy issues. I know how bad those can be. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Well, this morning I had a 7 mile run that went pretty well, especially when you take into account that I left my GU in the car instead of taking it with me. I finished in 1hr 10min exactly, then came home and took a nice ice bath because my poor calves were screaming at me!! I already feel much better, thank goodness, because we have a Jaguars game this evening to go to. I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Saturday and a great weekend.

Dana

Hello Team:

I had a great run this morning. That's two good runs in a row (Thursday and today). I did 4 miles at a 10r/1w pace, and it took me 42:09 min (~10:30 mpm). With my warm up and cool down walks I did 5.57 miles total. My legs felt fine. A little twinge in my shins, but nothing too bad. This was my first run out on the roads since my 5K on June 4th. I have a nasty blister on the bottom of my right foot which is more uncomfortable than my shins right now. I'm using the liquid bandage/sport tape method to keep it covered.

Oh, I just remembered, I got ran off the road by a car. It really made me mad. This kid driving a junker is coming straight at me, and would not move over. I had to jump off the road into the grass, and as he passed me he leaned forward in his car and flipped me the finger. I was so mad!!!

OK, that's all for me - have a great day everyone.

Dave that is awful :furious: :furious: :furious: TG you could jump off the road in time. But I'm glad your run was good despite the jerky kid.

Good morning everyone! It sounds like everyone is having a good day. I ran my 5K last night, it was an AWFUL run. The course was great (one BFH), the community support was AWESOME--people standing in front of their houses cheering and spraying us with sprinklers, my time was good--32:09 (2 seconds slower than my PR, don't know my splits because I forgot my Garmin and had to use Stephen's old one), but the weather was TERRIBLE. At 7:00 it was in the upper 80's and the humidity had to be in the 90's, I felt so sick the entire run and for about 20 minutes afterwards, the heat really did me in. But despite that, it was a great time, Stephen did great, he came in 3rd in his age group with a time of 21:24, he is the now the proud owner of a Rhythm Race medal. :teeth: Mom, Dad, and Jessica had a good time as well, they walked the course and ended up with a time of 50:10 (Dad) and 54:12 (Jess and Mom). Unfortunately, I don't think Jessica caught the bug, at least not yet, but it was good for my Dad because he realized that he has to actually make an effort and train for Disney. My Dad has always been athletic and I think he thought he could jump right back into running/walking and have the results he had when he was 30. We all know better than that. ;)

Dave--Sorry about the jerk! That's why I only run in our neighborhood, a 1.8 mile loop, or the running park. Stephen runs the roads around here, and I always worry about him because people are jerks. I'm glad you had a great run, it sounds like you're ready to start training.

Pat--I trained for the Country Music 1/2, but ran the Flying Pig instead, which was a week after the CMM. I've been to Nashville a couple of times and the city is very hilly, when I looked at the map, I wasn't familiar enough with the city to know what part was hilly and what part wasn't. I imagine the half stays pretty close to the downtown area, which is hilly.

Sunny--I'm glad you're posting here again. I still can't get over your attitude and your commitment to the marathon. I know it would be a different story with me.

Bill--I'm glad you found the source of your pain. I :rotfl: when I read about Lynnda torturing you.

Pungodingy-- :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: you are doing great!!! I love MfM, I've read the book probably 3 or 4 times and keep referencing back to it. I'm proud to say I am a penguin.

I better get off here and get cleaned up, Stephen and I are going out for a victory dinner to kick off the marathon training.

Good Afternoon Everyone-

I had a great run today. 5 miles and I could have gone alot farther. I felt great the whole time! One of those -I forgot I was running kind of runs. Wow. Of course I went MUCH slower than Wedbesday night! I haven't figured out the pace yet but it was 5 miles in 47 minutes. I am getting to the point that I don't care about pace anymore - is that normal? I just want to run the miles and enjoy myself.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi, everyone!
Thanks for everyone's good wishes about dropping DD off to college. I held up very well (Howard reminds me the hard part will be when we move her into permanent housing on Wednesday night instead of just band camp housing and have to leave her). Fortunately a bunch of band kids came to the van to help carry her stuff up to her 3rd floor room, so we were able to say goodbye at the car with me not wanting to embarass her by getting all teary-eyed. We've already heard from her about 6 times and made a trip to the campus to bring her body glide. :rotfl: So, I haven't had much of a chance to miss her yet. We'll see her Wednesday night for move-in and then on 9/3 to celebrate her birthday, and then it will really feel like she is "away", especially when we go to DL with DS13 and no DD.

So glad to hear about all the great runs everyone is having! Even Krista's "terrible run" sounds like she did fabulously well! :thumbsup2

Wish I could say the same. I did 9 miles this morning and every single step required lots of positive self-talk and bribery and telling myself about all the challenges other WISHers have overcome. I also put in a call to our old friend Liz (as well as some other calls I had to make) and spoke with DD 2x, so maybe that all contributed to my turtle pace, too. :confused3

First, I only dragged myself out of bed (after about 5.5 hours of sleep) by promising myself I could wear my new WISH shirt. I reminded myself that "DNS" just stinks and I just couldn't face myself if I didn't get out there. I was actually thinking about all the interesting things you guys see and experience on your runs when suddenly a bright red fox ran out of the tall grass to my right and right across my path. The funny thing is I wouldn't have seen it if I'd kept going in the counterclockwise path I always follow. For some reason (boredom  ) I had doubled back for about .6 miles in a reverse direction just to add some interest. I was watching a Dad help his little princess who was learning to ride a 2 wheeler (I thought of Dave and his DD's hanging out together) when suddenly I caught a flash of red in my peripheral vision and watched it run right in front of me. It was awesome to see.

Anyway, it was a pretty ugly 9 miles. Not even overall marathon pace. UGH! I am going to hope it was lack of sleep and lack of breakfast that are to blame for my slow pace. Otherwise I'd be feeling pretty desperate about being able to pull it off for DL.

It's kind of nice to be remembered by a few people. :goodvibes

I really should get back to training as my DH signed me up for these two events:
Sear's Tower Go Vertical and this Hustle up the Hancock since I signed him up for the WDW full. :rotfl2:

Has anyone done any events like this? Is anyone doing these events?

Any suggestions? :confused3

I'm on my way out to work, but wanted to report that I walked a mile yesterday and today plus an awesome ab & arm workout. Enjoy your weekend.

Woo hoo :woohoo: I did my 7 miles....although it was on the threadmill and not with my group :guilty:....I just had the hardest time getting up this morning.

6 miles was at 12 min./mil, 1 mile at 16 min/mil.

Not sure if I will be able to get done anything tomorrow......I have to go to the inlaws. ;)

Dave - Great job on your run :thumbsup2

Okay - have to try and catch up on the rest of the Disers......

Oh Cam - I'm sure you're just being hard on yourself.

Just found this thread love the advice. I will be running my first full marathon on Oct 8 . I want to do the half or full at wdw next year depending on how this one goes. I ran my first half in may in 1:52 and was real happy and decided to do a full. I said i would never do a full and now i,m looking forward to it. A question for you guys and gals I,ve done 20 miler and doing another this weekend is this enough or one more before Oct. Do you decrease your milage leading up to the marathon and by how much and do you also do long runs leading up or stop. I,ve been doing between 15- 17 miles for the last two months for my long runs. thanks for your help Rich :thumbsup2
