Wk of April 20 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I am going to listen to Cruella's advice from yesterday and take a day off. My shin is feeling better thanks to the ART, but I want to be in good shape for my 5K this weekend and the Minnie next weekend. Thanks so much for the reminder!

Debra - Yes, I think we get spring around here. The weather has been nice for the most part, but every once in awhile winter seems to want to make a return visit. Last year we got snow at the end of May so Calgary is just weird...

Cecilia - for you.

Kevin - It really sounds like LTO for you. Good to see you back here!

Patricia - Congratulations, sounds like you are doing really well! You and Cam will definitely be ready for your 5K!

Steff - That is awesome! Congrats to your DH.

Judy - Tons of PD for your hamstring!

Krista - Thanks for the offer! 70s sound so much better right now. Thank goodness I have a trip to Orlando to look forward to next week!

Stacie - Way to inspire people! It sounds like the Minnie will be a great family event for you.

Scott - That is a great pic in your siggie. I always look like I'm struggling and shuffling in every race picture!

Sorry to those I missed, but I'd better get back to work...!

Thanks so much everyone! I am really choked up at all the love and support from this board. I love TNT too, but TnT is way lacking in the day to day (hour to hour sometimes) support that this board has for each other.

Cecilia, I PROMISE that we will have oranges just for you at the turn around in January 09!!! ::yes::
:goodvibes Anne
Ahhh, there are no words. Thank you. Just yesterday, I was thinking about that orange slice and how wonderful it tasted. It kind of symbolizes what WISH means to me. And you weren't rude at all - really. Not everyone knows that orange slices are best served with big hugs! Noone from TNT had oranges or licorice or gave me big hugs when I needed them. Thank you.

David Cook fans - My family hasn't really liked him but every week we kept waying "man, he was right on." Then last night we just sat there going "wow". I actually voted for him (Couldn't let that Michael Johns thing happen to him)

Hey Scott - I wanted to mention that I like your pic in your siggy line. Every time I see it I picture you saying "I WANT COOKIES". :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I think the picture looks more like he just swiped the last cookie and he knows he is faster than us....

Patty (and Cam) - WAY TO GO!! I think it is awesome that you are starting this endeavor together! Keep us posted on your progress!

Bill - I can walk. I can I can. The problem is that when I walk I talk too much - so my partners kept speeding up - so I ended up a runner. But If I was walking AND drinking a beer then maybe I wouldn't talk to much. oh but then I would drink too much and that only makes me talk more....I better skip the beer laps thingy.
Oh and I think we already have some volunteers for waiting at Mexico with margaritas... I am sure we can find a couple more to wait at Britain with a pint. You need a pint when you get to Britain and think your almost finished and then realize you still have to go the long way around the world to get to the finish. The best view in the marathon is the red phone booths as you run into Epcot, the worst is about 3 seconds later when you see just how far it is around the lake.

Thanks again everyone! You have made my day.
Cecilia

Woohoo!!! :woohoo: My workout buddy is here!!! WISH team, meet my friend, Patty! Patty, meet the WISH team!

Cam,

You always make me feel good. I love working out with you. You are such a beautiful person inside and out! If I don't see you in the am, good luck, let me know how you make out. I'll definately see you Friday

Awesome Job!!! :cheer2:

thanks for cheering me on. I think knowing that I can come here and post my one little feat that I accomplished today helps me to see the big picture. 5k here we come!

Patricia - Congratulations, sounds like you are doing really well! You and Cam will definitely be ready for your 5K!

Thanks so much, I have a great workout buddy!

Cosi Bella - Welcome to teh team! SO glad things have worked out for 09! Please feel free ask questions and to tell us about wedding plans. ;) This thread cn be overwhelming at first but the most important part is letting us know how you're doing and if you have questions. DOn't feel the need to keep up with teh rest of our sagas until it's comfortable fro you. Welcome!

OK great! So I posted yesterday and already this thread has grown by like ten pages! I'm overwhelmed!!! I'm going to try and keep up! Thank you for welcoming me, I'm so excited to post about training, and I have SOOOO MANY QUESTIONS because I've never done a race farther then a 5k. I used to run 5 miles a day before I started working but that has gone down hill! I'll try and post as often as I can and I definitely have no problem talking about the wedding!! :cool2: Thanks!!

Cosi Bella -- :welcome: So glad to see you here! What a wonderful way to combine the fun of your planning session and Marathon weekend! :woohoo: Howard and I did our site visit in January, right after the marathon. Our VR will be the day after marathon weekend in January. You are right -- training for an event is a great way to get very fit! :thumbsup2 Looking forward to sharing your journey! :goodvibes

Thanks!!! :) I'm so excited for both events.. to be honest, I don't know which I'm more excited for!! (ok I think probably the wedding wins, but its a close second for the half marathon!) I've always wanted to run in a marathon! This is going to be so great and I can't wait to share my journey. I have so many questions about training b/c I've never trained for something this huge before!! I am so busy at work (I have to go do some stuff in a min) so it might be slow for me to post during the day, but I'm going to try my best to keep up!! congrats on your VR!! That is so exciting! :yay:

I'd like to introduce myself to everyone and become a part of this WISH team.

I am 24 years old and live in CT. I grew up in New York, and met my Fiance in college, and then moved to CT to be with him after we graduated. I started running when I was about 12/13ish and never really stopped until about a year ago. I ran everyday pretty much with my mom and we did numerous races on Long Island, all 5ks, a few longer ones. I just love running, I really do. There is something about being outside breathing fresh air, filling your lungs with the beautiful surroundings that is so peaceful for me! I really miss it. I find it extremely hard to start and maintain a regular running schedule now that I have started a new (my first!) full time job. I work 9-5 everyday. My commute is about 30 mins without traffic, but there is ALWAYS traffic going and coming home from work. In the spring and summer it is light enough outside that I can run when I get home from work, but I miss having someone to run with, and quite frankly I am a little nervous to run by my self. I have investigated getting some pepper spray/mace to protect myself from "intruders". I guess my first question to you all is, how the hell do you fit running into your schedule if you work a full time job?!?!... do you run on a treadmill when its convenient? I can't afford to join a gym they are so expensive!!! I have thought about waking up early in the am, (6ish) and getting my jog in then. That could really work. I like running in the am. This is my biggest hurdle. I have to figure this out and I will be golden! Ok I'm starving, its lunch time! I'll try and post more later. Thanks everyone for the help/warm wishes/ and just for listening! :thumbsup2

Cosi Bella Welcome and congrats on the Disney fairy tale wedding--my niece has this scoped out already--of course, she's only 17, but no matter--even if it's in 10-20-30 years, I guarantee that's where she'll be married! The half marathon is full--can the Disney wedding people pull strings?

Thanks!! I have been dreaming of this wedding for so long and now its going to happen! I did see that the registration for the half is closed through disney, but I have a couple of charities in mind that still have some space... at least they did when I contacted them a few days ago! Hope they haven't filled up, I'm going to make my choice today and register! :yay: Woo hoo! Thanks again, and I look forward to posting with everyone here!

:welcome: Cosi Bella! How absolutely awesome to have a Disney wedding! It'll be fun reading about your training in between wedding plans!

Thanks! I am so excited for the wedding in Disney! and the Half marathon this January too!! I'll be updating both very soon :)

Chimera, Postesf and Honeibee, Thanks for the welcome wishes! I finally found the WISH forum and am so happy to post and train with everyone!

aladdinsgirl, thanks! I think I found a few charities that will still accept some runners, so I'm going to find that out today!

The Siggie Pic - THANK YOU to everyone who complimented the photo...you guys are too nice! It was taken last year at the Country Music Half, Amy and I had a BLAST and was truly a fun event, I think I was smiling through every second :) (ok, ok, she was 10 feet in front of me with some cookies at the end of a fishing pole.."c'mon Scotty, they're still soft and chewy"...thus the cookie monster like grin)

Leana - Enjoy the day off!!

Cam - running buddies, 5k in June, half marathon in Jan...YOU GO GIRL! You are such a kind, good hearted spirit...so nice to see posts from you :goodvibes:

PJ - Day two...CHECK! Nice job!!

NE Bill - Boardwalk..check...registration...check. Nice job!! (sense a theme here?) Might want to jump on the air travel sooner than later if you have to pay anything, I heard all prices are going up soon after the dismal earnings (or I should say losses) that the airlines reported.

Connie
- Good luck in OKC! Very cool news about your DH...the WISH fever is catching on!!

Carol
- Oh No!! I can't live thru your posts anymore! Hope you had a great time down in WDW :) (welcome back to the pollen :( )

Judy - What better thing to do on a rest day than pack for Disney!! YESS!! Minnie is almost here :goodvibes:

Krista - 2.5 hours on a post and no mention of me. And here I was talking to Amy this morning, suggesting that we offer to watch Carter for an evening so you and Steve can go out for a nice dinner in WDW...hmph. :snooty:

Cecilia
- (only you know the real story about the photo...SHHHH!!) I'm totally expecting a CMM Review from you, by the way :goodvibes:

Amy - :thumbsup2 24 extra hours :goodvibes:

Scott's World - I am so stoked about the Minnie Weekend that I just changed it to a 'Minnie Week' Gonna drive down on Wednesday morning now instead of Thursday :goodvibes: Now...hmm....where to stay???

Cosi Bella - FItting in the runs are hard. Once you make the time, though, you just get used to it after a while. I miss my SAturday runs now if I don't get tehm in. Trust, those were the hardest fro me to fit in and I never thoguth I'd miss them. Do you have a SNap FItness? FOr a gym, they are pretty reasonable. Then again, mnay could justify teh cost of a TM if that's all you would use teh gym for. We do our runs outsides as much as possible, but that gets hard int eh winter. Any chance you could get your fiance to run with you? If not, please make sure you find a safe place to run adn take any necessary precautions (pepper sray, ear phones tha tlet you hear teh surroundings, etc)

Wow, this thread is flying!

I'm so excited for all you doing the Minnie! :yay:
It is getting close!

Cecilia, sorry to hear about MCM.

Welcome to Cosi Bella! :goodvibes

Went to doc this morning. Said I needed x-rays on my knee, hip and back??? Sending me to an orthopedic. I have an appointment next Tuesday with someone whose specialty is sports medicine. He is not the one Cecilia recommended and who my DH knew, but this one is on my insurance. ;)

This might be a stupid question, but will I need to run on a treadmill or something for him? My knee starts hurting at a mile into my runs. Otherwise, I'm fine. I'm just curious if I need to take my running shoes and dress accordingly? Guess I should have asked when I called...

Have a nice day WISHers! :grouphug:

Oh, Scotty, dear, sweet Scotty, you know I love you best!! I told you that I would overlook someone, I'm sorry that it was you, please forgive me! :flower3: That's what I get for trying to work and balance invoices at the same time!

Seriously, I am in awe of your wo's, you are incredible. I definitely think you could tackle the Tour de Georgia. You're going to have to plan a biking trip with Stephen, I think you two could wear each other out!

Thanks for the offer to babysit, (you too Amy!) but my parents are coming to WDW with us. Maybe the 4 of us can meet up sometime and hang out. It'll be fun--3 Goofy finishers and one lil' ol' half marathoner. ;)

Krista

Hola WISHers!! I see some of you were talking about Polishness and of course my Spidey sense got tweaked and drew me in. :rotfl: Polish Princesses UNTIE!!

Welcome Cosi Bella - you'll love it here!

Scott, oh the difficult decisions. Where to stay at Disney. Hmm. I pity you. Really. (Is my sarcasm thick enough for you? ;) )

Shan, good luck at the doctors!

Krista, um.. congrats? :rotfl: No offense meant at all, but I get slightly weirded out when you can see the baby move under the skin. I even get freaked when preggers women's belly button pop out. I know, I am weird.

Frank, I've been meaning to ask you, do you have a favorite place to run or do you just run through your neighborhood? I've decided that I am not running the Bonnie Park/Mill Stream trail anymore because the banked surface drives me nuts!

I know I am forgetting almost everyone but virtual hugs to all!! Me... I am having difficulty motivating myself to sign up for another 5k. I've got one in mind for a week from Sunday but I keep talking myself out of registering with classic excuses like "Well, I need more recovery time between races" and "I should take more time to get faster/better/cuter/more fluent in Tagalog before I run another". Yes, folks, I am a dork. :headache:

Now for everyone else...

Cosi Bella--So glad that you are able to hook up with a charity group and run the half that way. It stinks that it filled up so fast this year! Congrats again on your upcoming wedding and for getting back into running. I hear ya on finding time to train. I'm not really training right now (I'm 5 months pregnant), but I've run 4 half marathons and 1 full, plus I'm running the half in January, so I know how hard it is. I do all of my training on my own, my husband Stephen (skfulkers on the boards) runs too, but we run at different paces, so we never train together. I run almost exclusively in my neighborhood, so there is a since of safety there, plus I take my dog with me, so that helps. As far as getting the runs in, what helps me is planning out a schedule and hanging somewhere I see it all the time, so I know I have to get my runs whether it's right after work outside or later in the evening on the treadmill. I hope that your fiance is supportive of your running and training, it's a thousand times easier when your SO is on board with the training and understands. Let us know if you need any help!

Cam--I am so excited for you and Howard! :goodvibes You are going to make a beautiful bride. :bride: (that smilie is for Frank ;) ) You know, Stephen has never felt (now seen) the baby move, everytime he comes over to feel, the baby stops moving and as soon as Stephen walks away, I feel a big kick!

NE Bill--I can't promise you that I'll be cheering for the half as I'm running it, but I can promise you that for the full I will be at the Yacht Club from about 9:30ish (after I see Stephen at mile 9 and mile 13) until the very last person passes by. Good luck deciding!!

Stacie--What a good sister you are! You are going to have so much fun at the Minnie!

I better get off, almost lunch time!

Krista

One more post. :)

Morgan--No offense taken, if it were anyone else, seeing the baby move would freak me out too! It's very "Alien"esqe. And I'm dreading the day my belly button pops. Gross!! :) Go ahead and sign up for another 5K. You are ready!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Logging off for real this time!

Krista

Kim--:welcome: We don’t live too far from you! In fact, we were just in Oxford on Saturday, my husband Stephen did the triathlon on Miami’s campus. I have lived here all my life, but I’ve never been to Miami—that is one gorgeous campus!!

Krista

HI,
We only moved here about 5 weeks ago, so am just getting to know the area, but it is gorgous. I am getting to know your city too, and must say I like it.

Got out early and did W4,D5 (we are doing this week again) of the C25K and I made it! Life is good!

Question for those that have run a Half before....thinking ahead to January. After the race, do you have the energy to go to a park later that day? Or are you totally wiped out? I just don't know what to expect from this?

Allyson

Allyson,

You will be on such a high afterwards, with a medal dangling around your neck. Of course you'll be in the parks, waving and smiling, and chatting with others finishers just like you. It's like a fraternity/sorority wearing your award!

Shan - I doubt you'll have to run. My guess its teh Doc will look at you, maneuver your legs and maybe have you stand diff way, so wear clothes that you can maeuver in, but not workout clothes. May send you for Xrays too. Good luck!

Cosi Bella - :welcome: :welcome: If you are in the Waterbury area check out RetroFitness. Kareneast (DW) and I belong to one in NJ. It runs $20.00 a month. I think we paid a $50 join-up fee. Only a 1 year contract and we were able to transfer to the new one that opened 6 miles from our house. Their website is http://www.retrofitness.net.

HOLY SMOKE, Wishteam! I can't begin to keep up with you guys!

I am busy preparing to take a few days off to do the half marathon in OKC. But I had to tell you this....My DH (aka DOOC! :lmao: ) will begin walking with me this summer! I am hoping this really comes to pass. When we did the last big shirt order, he had mentioned how much he liked the Wish shirt, so I bought him one too! He loves it! Since coming on Wish, you have helped me to inspire him to 50 lb weight loss and desire, (if not actual movement toward) doing races! I am hoping once his job settles and the farm work isn't calling so hard, we will be doing a 5K together.

Jeff, I have the picture of your friend and will be carrying it with me his weekend. I am hoping that I can place flowers on his chair your name.

I am off to get busy! :grouphug:

Steff,

THANK YOU AND MAHALO! Have a great OKC memorial race, I'll be thinking of you. Send us a race report!

I'll make it up there again sometime in the future, and take part in this race.

Yaaaaaa it is official. We will be at Marathon weekend.!!!!!

First we weren't coming to disney at all, now we are going Oct and Jan....yipeeeeee

Can't wait to catch up with you all!!!! I love this TEAM!!!!!

Kim
