Wk of April 20 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Cecilia, I PROMISE that we will have oranges just for you at the turn around in January 09!!! ::yes::

:worried: :(

Come to think of it ... You better not wait for me (if I am participating/not yet swept), as it would make for too long a day for you by the time I would be showing up.

Another Soccer post, totally off-topic, but here it is. Watch out everyone, Debra, me, and now Frank, we are a growing soccer nation here.

Frank

Wow! is all I can say. It's a pretty small subset of the population that equates Calcio to the beautiful game in Italian.

I had the good fortune to travel to Italy in 1999 and saw the AC/Inter Derby on Saturday evening, then the Inter/Man U Champions League match on Wednesday evening, both at San Siro. Soccer is my true passion, and seeing matches of that quality and emotional intensity was a revelation.

I've never seen Juventus in person, have you? They certainly are one of Europe's great clubs. Each country has it's own style of football, and the Italian game is very stylistic.

Since 2005 I have been able to see more European matches, 3 Premiership matches in London, and Ajax at home in the Eredivise. All were great fun. Living in Boston is it easy and fast to get to Europe, and I suspect I will continue my once a year trips to generally be a tourist, and by the way catch a match while I'm there.

After all that, I'm not sure I have a club in Europe. It wasn't possible to see top quality matches when I was a kid, so as long as I can watch a good match, I am very happy. Thinking back, my favorite match was probably Tottenham at White Hart Lane, the crowd there was the coolest thing I ever experienced. Upon learning that my daughter and I had flown to London to see their club, the Tottenham fans in our section spent the entire time making sure we were comfortable and well cared for, and for 90 minutes they sang one of the 20 or so club songs, which we quickly learned and chimed into. Lesley is 23 now, and it's probably the greatest father-daughter day we ever had. And how dumb is that, flying to London just to see a match?

This makes me smile a lot. Thanks.

Craig

I can't begin to remember everything that has hit me as I've read the past several pages of posts, but I do want to tell you guys you mean the world to me! :grouphug:

Stacie -- congratulations on becoming a person who inspires those around her. I have truly enjoyed sharing your progress in your WISH journal and I hope you are so proud of all you have achieved! I know you are so outrageously proud of your sister. Congratulations to larry's girl! What a difference you are all making in your lives! :goodvibes

Angie -- I can't imagine you being the person you say you were. You are such an inspiration to so many of us! And I carry in my heart the memory of your voice encouraging me marathon weekend. How does one thank another person for being selfless and bright and warm? You are an amazing woman. I am so happy that good things are coming to you - you deserve the best!

Amy -- I fear I may have hurt some feelings if anyone felt they were ignored at the WISH meet when you came over to introduce yourself. Here you are, this tiny little thing with the HUGEST smile, someone who had been so supportive and encouraging all year in my journal. It was awesome to finally meet you and to read afterwards of your marathon weekend experiences. Look at you now! Just look at that siggie! You have accomplished so much, and having done it, rather than considering it done and finished (like some of us :rolleyes1 ), you have kept going and going and going. Some of us check goals off our lists and put it behind us. Instead, you and Scott have used your accomplishments as merely a LAUNCH to more.

With my profound regrets for not responding to every post (Debra -- you are my HERO!!! Well, you and Karen and . .. well, you know what/who I mean! ), I just want to reiterate that I am so proud to be in the company of every single person who comes to this WISH forum. (Dr. Craig -- I am so blessed to call you my friend! Now if you and Charlie could just gang up on Howard to persuade him to haul his butt to the Minnie, you'd be miracle workers!) Every single one has made a decision to undertake a healthier lifestyle, or to seek to be stronger and more healthy and fit. Kudos! INSPIRING does not begin to describe this "TEAM". :woohoo: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Erica and Shan and Sara and Angie and Leana and everyone else fighting injuries or recovering -- sending you friendship boats FULL of pixie dust!!!! pixiedust:

Oh, and one last thing - the memory of too many wild college frat parties reminds me of how much I dislike beer. No one told me margaritas were an option. Now I'm really in!!! Vic -- I hope you have a very big blender! ;)

Good morning, Wish team! Happy Hump Day!!! I’m not going to touch on the drama too much, I just want to let everyone know how much I love them and how grateful I am for each and every person on this team. :goodvibes :goodvibes You have no idea (well, maybe you do) how much your words mean and have meant to me over the past 2 years and 10 months. You’ve helped me through injury (multiple times), bad runs, running slumps and also awesome runs, and PR’s. I will never forget running my first marathon last January and coming around mile 24ish and seeing the Wish team and just sobbing. I will never forget the handfuls of ice and the offer of food and drink. I will never forget Mel walking with me for a little bit with her arm around my shoulders making sure that I was okay. And you know what? I wasn’t wearing a Wish shirt, not even lime green. I just bought my first Wish shirt about a month ago. These people didn’t know me because of what I was wearing; they knew me because they are my friends. These people have my phone number, they have been to my house, and I have been offered invitations to come to their homes when we are in the area. I have sent and received Christmas cards from these people. Heck, I think some of you guys are just as excited about this baby as Stephen and I are. :) I don’t know what direction this team is headed in, all I know is that you are all my friends and my family and I never want to lose the support, the friendship that this team has.

I have to be honest, I don’t have any training to report, and I’ve been spending most of my evenings working on my scrapbook. I’m up through the half marathon for 2007! Maybe I can count standing in the rain watching Stephen finish his tri as xt? I do have baby news to share though, last night for the first time I saw the baby move—that was so AWESOME!! I was on the couch watching TV and thought I saw my shirt move, I pulled my shirt up to look and sure enough I could see my stomach rippling and moving as the baby was kicking. He moved around for about 20-30 minutes and then he must have fallen back asleep. :cloud9:

American Idol Peeps—Oh my goodness, how much do I love David Cook???? And singing “Music of the Night”? I think he would make an excellent Phantom, his voice reminded me a little of Michael Crawford. I’m a HUGE Andrew Lloyd Weber fan and thoroughly enjoyed last nights show (even the ones who butchered ALW’s work  ). I’m curious to see who is going home tonight.

I’m going to attempt to catch up with everyone, I know that I’m going to miss people and I’ll apologize in advance for doing so. That’s what I get for waiting until Wednesday to post on the thread!

Mel—I hope that you stomach is feeling better!! :wizard: for no tummy troubles during the Minnie!!!

Morgan—Congrats on your 5K!!!!! :cheer: You should be extremely proud of yourself, seriously how many people have ever run a 5K? Start looking in the real world and you won’t find many.

Angie—I am so happy that you love your new job so much. I am equally as sorry that your back is hurting again. Please just rest and ice your back for the next few days. If you get to Minnie and PR it, then awesome, if you get there and run just for fun, well then that’s awesome too!!! I’ll be thinking about you! :wizard:

Leana—How cold did you say it was???? WOW!!! If you need a place to get away from the cold, we have an extra bedroom and it’s in the mid 70’s here. :wizard: for your hip flexors!!!

Vic—Sweet tattoo!!! I always said I was going to get inked after my first full. I have the tattoo I want and the location I want all decided, just have to get the guts to do it first. I’m not exactly scared of needles, I’m just scared I’ll regret doing it someday! Plus my dad has said on more than one occasion that no daughter of his would ever have a tattoo.

Carrie—Just wanted to give you one more !!! I so wish I was doing the Minnie with you guys!!! Glad that yoga helped to clear your mind last night.

Amy—So you love to babysit 5 month olds, huh?? Hmm, let me think, who is going to be 5 months old in January!!! ;) I am so proud of you for resting last night!! And if we are doing pizza analysis, my favorite toppings are pepperoni and pineapple. Oh, I thought of you this morning when I was coming to work, I heard the new My Chemical Romance song. I think it was called “One Last Word” or something like that, anyway it was pretty awesome!! I hope that Carter likes to rock out because his momma sure does!! :rockband:

Debra—I’m proud of you for resting too. See, it’s not a weakness! But I know where you are coming from! Obviously I have gotten over my feeling guilty for resting thought process. ;) Pass on my birthday wishes to DOOD!!!

TX Ang—I think you need to go DL for the half!!!! Sean so needs to meet Mickey Mouse and you need to get your Disney fix!!! Plus your Dad lives in SoCal too? Sounds perfect to me!

Maura—I understand completely about the mental aspects of running and pushing through the pain just so you can prove to yourself that you can do it. Is it the smartest thing? Not really, but I would have done it too. Is Buddy feeling better now?

Martha—Congrats on finding a new gym. I know what you mean, we used to belong to a Rec Center and it was terrible—kids everywhere, teenagers on the equipment not using it properly, the machines were always broken, I could go on and on. We joined Gold, I mean Urban Active about a year ago and I love it. (not that I go a whole lot now ;), but I’m sure that I’ll love it again.) Rest that IT band!!!!

Judy—Rest and ice your hamstring!! Jeez, are we all falling apart????

FL Bill—Smoking pork, huh? Have I ever mentioned that pork is my favorite meat???? It sounds like Lynnda got some good presents!!

Lynnda—:bday:

Kristi—We registered for a stroller and are definitely bringing it to WDW. I’m just thinking a Baby Bjorn will be good for evenings in the parks or to carry him while standing in line—stuff like that. It’s going to be hard traveling in January, babies have lots of stuff!!! That running program for Zack sounds awesome!!! I bet he would love it. Have fun on the field trip today! Hope you feel better. ;) ;)

Shan--:wizard: for your knee!!! Lots of rest, ice, walking, weights, and cross training. Trust me, I know it stinks!!

Cecilia—  I’m so sorry for your dad. My heart is breaking for you. If you need us, please know that we are here.

Cam—Miss you, girl!!!! How is the VR planning going?

Carol—I am so jealous that you are at SSR. I love that resort!! Have a relaxing trip and enjoy your massage!!!!!

Dana, Allie, Michelle—:bday:

Cosi Belle--:welcome: Congrats on your upcoming wedding, how exciting!! I’m crossing my fingers that you can find a half entry.

Kim--:welcome: We don’t live too far from you! In fact, we were just in Oxford on Saturday, my husband Stephen did the triathlon on Miami’s campus. I have lived here all my life, but I’ve never been to Miami—that is one gorgeous campus!!

Minnie Racers—11 days to go!!!!!!!! Good luck and enjoy your taper!

Again, I know I missed people and I am sorry, but I have been working on this post for about 2.5 hours now and my work is being neglected. I better get off here before my boss catches on!

Krista

Cam--Good to "see" you around and I hope your case (and life) are going well.

Also, Welcome to all the new WISHers.

What do you mean you didn't get the invitations. :confused3 Maybe that is why no one showed up and we had all the leftovers (8+ pounds sitting in the freezer for some nice dinners sometime).

Bill--Maybe you need a refresher course on sending smoke signals while "smoking the pork." :confused3

Thank you for your sacrifice. Now if you would just open a WISH exclusive B,B&T we would be set (Bed, Breakfast,& Training run tours)

Beer Laps?! I think walkers definately have an advantage when doing beer laps. But I could be a walker. Heck, two beers and I could be a crawler but its hard to hold your beer and crawl.

Cecilia--I am glad you explained the B,B &T because, as a walker, the first thing I thought of was "Beer, Booze & Tans."

Walkers do have the advantage at WDW as the World Showcase is open by the time the walkers arrive. Just need to strategically place some team members at the pertinent pubs, countries, etc. The elites definately don't have this benefit.

Also, don't forget that different muscles are used for walking than running, so the walkers are actually trained for such beer laps. You runners better be careful trying it.

So long as the group would retain the same "vibe", the same attitude and the same goals, then I wear my status as that kid brother who seems to disappear and pop up at random intervals as a badge of honor.

Does this also mean that Kevin is going to try to borrow money from us?:confused3

ETA: Craig-- I forgot to mention that my son plays soccer (he's still only a U6) but loves being able to run non-stop. Although he enjoys watching baseball (go Sox), when I explained how if he played little league baseball there would be a lot of sitting and standing around, he decided to stick with soccer this spring anyway. The potential problem: we went to an AHL hockey game a couple months ago and he is now hooked on hockey. He wants to play hockey now as well and describes it as "kind of like soccer on skates, but you get to hit people." That's my boy.

NEBill, no, no...there will be oranges for ALL of the full marathoners!! I was just horribly rude to poor Cecilia last year....:o I'll be with you in the 1/2!!

crzy4pooh/Lynnda, :bday: even if I am late!!

Greetings Racing Team -

No training for me today, as I am under Dr Calcio's orders to rest my hamstring. As much as I know it's the right thing to do, it's making me nervous. I'll focus on packing, how about that? :upsidedow

Craig - Thank you so much for your "reminder" post. I NEED Charlie to come home and stop me. I'm doing too much and I know it. I almost wish it would rain so I'd stop working outside. On the flip side, my hamstring does feel better. I actually forget about it for a while. After I'm sitting for a bit, though, and I get up, it reminds me. I haven't trained since Saturday which I do realize is probably a good thing but it's driving me nuts! Anyway, thanks again. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend. BTW, I have to disagree with you being a "peripheral member" of WISH. You're an INTEGRAL part. :grouphug:

Cosi Bella - :welcome: Glad you found us. You'll find an amazing amount of support here....and...some WDW brides! Like, oh, for instance...me!

Leana - Oh I'm SO glad! :yay: I love my chiro. I'd be lost without her!

Debra - I hope you enjoyed your rest day. :goodvibes You deserve it!!

Carol - Jealous, jealous, jealous :upsidedow ....Glad you had a fabulous time. WISH I was with you!!

Angie - OMG what a beautiful post!

Lynnda - Was it your birthday? Did I miss it? Oh I'm so sorry! Did you have to make your own cake? Geez, I sure hope not, although if you did, I bet it was fabulous! :bday:

Amy - Wow, your post about what WISH stands for was GREAT! :thumbsup2

Erica - I was wondering about you! I think of you - and The Panda - often as you guys are on my screensaver! I have a picture that Robert took of the three of us in the MK and you are right next to me. Ohhh, foot surgery....been there, done that...three times. Are you in one of those lovely blue shoes with the velcro strap? Fun fun! Hope it's going well for you.

Kim
- :welcome: We're glad you found us!

Christa - You have a Panda in your head??? Can you get that removed??!! :rotfl: Just kidding Dave, you know we love you!

Vic - OMG do NOT give me anything that has tequila in it. :scared: No no no! I'll have a beer, but even at that, I can't be held responsible.... Come on Vic, why don't you come to the Minnie? Just drive over for the weekend.popcorn::

Allyson
- After the Half both this year and last (My first ever) I was tired and sore, but not dead. 2007 we went to MGM. I took it easy instead of my usual running about like a crazy woman, but yes, I think the parks are doable. Just slowly. Relax and enjoy it. You'll have earned it! :thumbsup2

Cecilia -

Jen - OMG DD7 is a doll! :cloud9: And I know where she gets it from! How sweet and thoughtful of you.

Scott - I keep forgetting to mention to you...I love that picture in your signature. Now THAT is pure running happiness! :thumbsup2

NEPFBill - Stop that! Stop that right now! You will be there and you won't get swept and you'll do fine and you'll have a great time. :woohoo: Repeat after me.

Craig, it is always good to meet other fans of the beautiful game.

Unfortunately I have never been to a live game. I have GolTV and FSC so I watch all the games I can. I have always loved soccer but until 2005 I didn’t get the channels so I have only been a weekly watcher for 3 years.

I like watching any good match but the teams I follow the most are Juventus and Man U. Watching Christiano Ronaldo play is just magical and I think if he can keep it up he will be mentioned with Pele, Maradona, Best, and Zidane some day. I got into Juventus because being a big Ferrari F1 fan the Agnelli link to the club via FIAT was definitely a deciding factor.

In the last year the best game I’ve seen was the Barca-Celtic game in the CL. Amazing running end to end and I was impressed that Celtic actually tried to make a game of it. Rangers were way to happy to sit back and defend for 90 minutes.

Being half Sicilian and half Polish (yes I know…I’m too stupid to know I’m supposed to be stealing for a living) I of course loved the 2006 WC final but if I had to be honest France played the better game.

I am going to Italy next month and will be there for the CL final and the last week of Serie A. Unfortunately being the last weekend all the games are on Sunday and I am meeting up with a tour group at noon that day in Florence. Fiorentina will be home that day but play at 3 so I will be missing it.

I am very much looking forward for the Euros this year. My bracket has Germany - Italy in the final. Unfortunately there is usually a surprise at the Euros so while that is a logical final it is probably not going to happen.

While I know we aren’t really supposed to plug other podcasts they aren’t competitors with the DIS so I will mention that the two best soccer ones out there are World Soccer Daily and the Guardian Football Weekly podcast. I don’t know if you listen to either of them but I can PM you their RSS feeds if you would like them.

Alright, now that I have my soccer fix in I guess we should get back to the W.I.S.H. talk. Joga Bonita!

Good Morning Everyone.

I got up before the sun and caught the early plane back to Atlanta and work.

(And I really wanted to just stay in Orlando. A friend of mine just packed up and moved there and I am jealous. I don't have the guts to "pack up and move" without a JOB LOL!)

This thread has really picked up speed. The things folks have posted about what WISH means were truly inspriring

Krista, COOL about seeing the baby move.

Vic & Jeff - Beer and BBQ sounds like a party!!!!

Leana, WHAT -8 is "not so bad" Boot cam in the snow? I am not worthy. I whine at 50 degress! LOL!

Stacie, what a cool post on your sister.

Jen, you have a sweet DD. I was always the left out kid in school (PAINFULLY shy, which will have you guys howling when you meet me. About the time I hit my Freshman year in college I got over it! IN A BIG WAY)

To those I missed, sorry it's hard to keep up.

(And I was not joking about the use of the Ignore button LOL!)

NEPFBill - Stop that! Stop that right now! You will be there and you won't get swept and you'll do fine and you'll have a great time. :woohoo: Repeat after me.

Don't worry. I will be there. I just don't know if I'll be doing the marathon yet. :upsidedow

If I do the half, I sincerely hope I will not be out looking for oranges at mile 20 because that will mean I really messed up somewhere.

HOLY SMOKE, Wishteam! I can't begin to keep up with you guys!

I am busy preparing to take a few days off to do the half marathon in OKC. But I had to tell you this....My DH (aka DOOC! :lmao: ) will begin walking with me this summer! I am hoping this really comes to pass. When we did the last big shirt order, he had mentioned how much he liked the Wish shirt, so I bought him one too! He loves it! Since coming on Wish, you have helped me to inspire him to 50 lb weight loss and desire, (if not actual movement toward) doing races! I am hoping once his job settles and the farm work isn't calling so hard, we will be doing a 5K together.

Jeff, I have the picture of your friend and will be carrying it with me his weekend. I am hoping that I can place flowers on his chair your name.

I am off to get busy! :grouphug:

Being half Sicilian and half Polish (yes I know…I’m too stupid to know I’m supposed to be stealing for a living)

Hold it right there young man! I take offense! I myself am half Italian and half Polish. Plus, to make matter worse, I am a Taurus. :upsidedow

Don't worry. I will be there. I just don't know if I'll be doing the marathon yet. :upsidedow

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Good. I'm glad you're making plans to be there. :thumbsup2

Good. I'm glad you're making plans to be there. :thumbsup2

BWV Boardwalk View booked.:thumbsup2

Race Registrations completed.:thumbsup2

Just need to decide on air travel times and see if I can stretch my sky miles to cover both ToT and marathon weekend. :thumbsup2

I did w1d2 of my c25k today!!! I CAN do this. You dis-er's are so awesome and supporting of everyone (even us new to exercise buddies).

Well Judy, that makes two of us! You have to admit it is quite the combination. I got the Sicilian hair and eye brows but the Polish skin tone. During the winter months I am what can only be described as High Contrast.

For a second there.... I thought you just put up an empty post!! :confused3Took me a second to think about click on it to see what you said!!:lmao:

Woohoo!!! :woohoo: My workout buddy is here!!! WISH team, meet my friend, Patty! Patty, meet the WISH team!

Patty and I have been working out in the early morning hours at the Y for about 3 weeks now and last week we decided to do the C25k training plan with our goal being to run the entirety of a 5k on 6/22. I have always wanted to really focus on running an entire 5k but have geared myself toward walking/jogging longer distances so that I'd be prepared for the Disney endurance races. I did finally jog an entire 5k on 10/14/07 (IIRC), but I blew out my hip, probably because I hadn't properly trained for extended jogging. Since then, I've really focused on form and distance in training.

So, my new goal is to run the 5k on 6/22 and then to "train up" to jog/run the half marathon in January. Thankfully, Patty was enthusiastic and willing to undertake the couch to 5k training plan. As she said, we finished week 1, day 2 today. It is SOOO awesome to share workouts with a friend and to look over and see her HUGE smile, knowing we are both doing something good for ourselves and helping each other.

Now, if I could just achieve the running bliss that is obvious on Scott's face in his siggie pic, I"d be THRILLED!!!! :goodvibes

Krista -- How exciting it must have been to see your son doing his first long workout! Was Stephen around? I remember when Jenn was incubating, every time Howard would talk to her, she'd kick like crazy! We should have known then how bubbly and high energy she'd be! Enjoy this time, sweetie! Every moment is a precious memory in the making!

Bill -- thanks for asking about my case. Now that the case is public, I can say that it is really harrowing representing a committe of holders of nearly a billion dollars in bonds. Exciting, but scary! Life has calmed down considerably now. Thank God!

Steff -- congrats to you and to DH!!!! :cheer2: How awesome that DH is gearing himself up to start a walking program. We will be excited to hear all about how much he loves it when he gets started! :cool1:

Krista -- vow renewal plans are going really well. I am not sure how Howard plans to boogie at our "reception" though since he is planning to do the 5k on Friday, the 1/2 on Saturday and the full on Sunday. PLUS he'll have to be up around 4:30 am Monday for the Magic Kingdom photo shoot before the vow renewal. I thought he was a little insane for doing the Goofy the past two years. Now we KNOW just how crazy he really is! :dance3:
